“HDMI delay level” is not a universal HDMI setting or standardized measurement. If you mean that TV sound and picture do not match, the issue is usually described as audio delay or lip-sync trouble. The correction may be called AV Sync, A/V Sync, Audio Delay, or Lip Sync, and it may be on the TV, soundbar, or receiver. Which control is available—and what it changes—depends on your equipment and how it is connected.
What an HDMI audio-delay setting does
Audio and video can take different amounts of time to be processed along the signal path. A receiver or soundbar may add processing time; Google TV Help notes that each device in an HDMI chain needs time to process the signal and can therefore cause a delay. That does not, by itself, mean the HDMI cable is faulty.
An audio-delay control is a correction, not a diagnostic test or a shared HDMI scale. Delaying sound may help when the sound arrives before the matching picture. Do not assume that the same adjustment fixes every kind of mismatch: manufacturers describe model-specific controls and procedures, not one universal setting or target value.
First determine where the mismatch occurs
- Try another program or channel. If only one channel is out of sync, the broadcast may be responsible rather than the TV setting. LG identifies channel-specific trouble as a possible broadcast-signal issue.
- Try another app, input, or source device. Note whether the problem follows one source or occurs across the TV.
- Identify the device producing sound. Check whether audio comes from the TV speakers, a soundbar, or an AV receiver, and note how each is connected.
This quick isolation helps you avoid changing a setting on the TV when the mismatch is limited to one program or device.

Check the HDMI audio connection
If the TV sends audio to a soundbar or receiver over HDMI, confirm that the cable is connected to the designated ARC or eARC ports on both devices. Sony recommends checking the ARC/eARC connection when troubleshooting TV audio, and Google TV Help recommends using the TV’s ARC/eARC connection to return audio to an AVR or soundbar. Port names and setup steps vary, so consult the manuals for both devices.
Also check which device is set to play audio. A TV connected to an external audio system may offer different sync controls from a setup using the built-in speakers.

Find and adjust the sync control
Look in the TV, soundbar, or receiver’s sound or audio settings for a control named AV Sync, A/V Sync, Audio Delay, or similar. The exact label and menu path depend on the model. For example, LG documents AV Sync Adjustment and TV Speaker Delay; Denon documents Audio Delay and Auto Lip Sync on the AVC-X6500H receiver.
- Open the manual or official support guide for your exact model and locate its audio-sync instructions.
- Choose the control on the device that is handling the audio, if its manual directs you there.
- Make a small adjustment, then replay the same scene or sync test. TCL recommends playing a video after each troubleshooting step.
- If the mismatch remains, make another small change or restore the original setting before trying a different control. Change one setting at a time so you can tell what helped.
Do not aim for a particular number of milliseconds based on a generic guide. The consulted manufacturer instructions do not establish a cross-brand target, and a displayed value or adjustment direction can behave differently by model.

Account for gaming responsiveness
For games, a setting that improves lip sync can affect how responsive the picture feels. Sony warns that its A/V Sync setting may delay picture output, making game response feel slower. Test the relevant game mode and sync options using the instructions for your specific TV and audio system, and judge both sound-picture matching and control response.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When to consider different equipment
Check your existing TV, soundbar, and receiver manuals before shopping. Some receivers include correction features: Denon’s AVC-X6500H manual documents both Audio Delay and Auto Lip Sync. That example does not establish that you need a new receiver or that any particular replacement will work with your setup. If you are evaluating another receiver, verify the exact model’s sync features and compatibility with your TV, source devices, ARC/eARC connection, and gaming needs.
