There is no single fix for every GTA: San Andreas progress problem. First identify the release (original game, Trilogy Definitive Edition, or mobile Definitive Edition), platform, and exact symptom: a mission will not start, cannot be completed or retried, completion is not recorded, or a save will not load. Rockstar documents different causes and fixes for different releases. Use the matching branch below before changing or deleting any save data.
Classify the problem before touching a save
“Mission progress” and “save issue” can describe different failures. The distinction determines which official guidance applies.

Identify the release and platform
Rockstar maintains separate support information for the original game, the Trilogy Definitive Edition and the mobile Definitive Edition. A fix listed for one release cannot automatically be applied to another.

Record the exact platform and, where visible, the product or edition name. Older console versions can use removable memory devices, but the supported-storage guidance below is limited to compatible legacy setups. Do not treat an accessory recommendation as a way to repair a corrupted save.

Trilogy Definitive Edition
The Definitive Edition is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. Rockstar’s Trilogy update records cover these platforms, but an entry in a release note is historical evidence of a fix, not proof that a particular installation has the update or that every similar-looking symptom has the same cause.
Mobile Definitive Edition
The mobile support record covers Android and iOS, while the extracted version information for the November 12, 2025 entry specifies Android v1.87.0 and describes general fixes and improvements. For iOS, Rockstar’s August 18, 2026 support notice says iOS 17 or later is required for updates and technical support. Devices on iOS 16 or earlier can still download and play the titles, but they do not receive further updates or technical support. That operating-system requirement applies only to mobile players.
Release and symptom comparison
Use these comparisons to avoid applying a correct instruction to the wrong version:

Run this evidence-based triage in order
- Write down the release and platform. Use wording such as “San Andreas Trilogy Definitive Edition on PS5,” “original PC release,” or “mobile Definitive Edition on Android.”
- Name the mission and checkpoint. State whether the mission will not trigger, fails during an objective, cannot be retried, or finishes without recording progress.
- Separate loading from saving. Note whether an older save opens, whether the game reaches the save menu, and whether the failure happens immediately after a particular mission.
- Check whether cheats were entered and saved. This matters only to the save-loading branch; it is not a diagnosis of every mission problem.
- Compare the symptom with the release-specific notes. A named fix is relevant only when the edition, mission and behavior match.
- Preserve earlier saves. Do not overwrite the oldest working file while testing another one. If an earlier pre-cheat save exists, it is the specific recovery path Rockstar recommends trying for cheat-related load failures.
- Escalate with the complete description if the issue remains. Rockstar’s San Andreas support hub provides Story Mode Play, Error Code, Q&A and How-To categories and a request route.
If a save will not load
Cheats are a documented possible cause
Rockstar’s General troubleshooting for save files not loading properly, last updated March 8, 2024, says a common cause is saved-game corruption caused by cheat codes entered into the game and saved. Its separate Issues after using Cheat Codes article, last updated January 9, 2024, recommends not saving after using cheats because they can cause scripting errors or corrupt saves.
This is a documented possibility, not a universal explanation. A save that fails to load without any cheat use may have another cause, and the official material does not provide a guaranteed repair sequence for every damaged file.
Try the earlier save Rockstar identifies
If cheats were used and the problem began afterward, load a save from before the cheat. This is a test as well as a recovery attempt: if the earlier file opens and the later file does not, the timing supports the cheat-related explanation. Continue from the working file without saving after entering cheats.

If no pre-cheat save exists, do not claim that the file can be reconstructed. Rockstar’s guidance does not promise recovery of a corrupted San Andreas save, and the support material reviewed does not establish a universal method for repairing or converting one.

Do not confuse a failed load with lost mission progress
A save that opens but returns you before a mission is a progress-recording problem, not necessarily file corruption. Note the last successful save, the mission completed immediately before the discrepancy, and whether an autosave was expected. Use the mission-specific branch rather than repeatedly attempting to load a file that is already known to open.
Definitive Edition mission fixes documented by Rockstar
Trilogy update 1.04: April 30, 2024
Rockstar’s San Andreas Definitive Edition section for Trilogy update 1.04, last updated April 30, 2024, lists several relevant corrections:
- Progression issues within the mission Pier 69.
- An autosave not being created after completing High Stakes, Low Rider.
- Being unable to retry High Stakes, Low Rider.
Use these notes only when all three identifiers line up: you are playing the Trilogy Definitive Edition, the platform is one covered by the record, and your behavior matches the named mission problem. The notes do not establish that every stalled mission is a Pier 69 bug or that every missing autosave is the High Stakes, Low Rider issue.
What to check when the named symptom matches
- Confirm that the title is the Trilogy Definitive Edition rather than an original release or mobile version.
- Confirm the platform: the 1.04 record covers PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch and PC.
- Check the installed game’s update information using the platform’s normal update screen. The existence of a release note does not prove the update is installed on your copy.
- Reproduce the problem once and record the exact objective, mission outcome and save behavior. Avoid repeatedly overwriting the only working save while testing.
- If the issue persists after the relevant update is installed, submit those details through the San Andreas support hub rather than assuming the historical fix failed or that the save is permanently damaged.
Later Trilogy record: update 1.112
Rockstar’s Trilogy Definitive Edition update 1.112 record, last updated November 25, 2024, says “Numerous fixes and improvements” for all platforms and titles. The record does not enumerate a San Andreas-specific mission or save correction. Therefore, it should not be cited as proof of a particular mission fix.

When mission completion or autosave is not recorded
First determine whether the mission itself completes. If the game displays the completion outcome but the next load returns you to an earlier state, describe it as a save or autosave discrepancy. If the mission ends without the completion state, describe it as mission progression.

The documented example is High Stakes, Low Rider in Trilogy Definitive Edition update 1.04: Rockstar specifically fixed an autosave not being created after completion and a separate inability to retry the mission. Those are two different symptoms even though they involve the same mission.
For another mission, the official material reviewed does not identify a universal sequence of checkpoints, restarts, file edits or reinstall steps that safely restores progress. Keep the original working file, record what happened, and use the support route if the release notes do not match your case.
Memory cards and external storage on compatible legacy consoles
Rockstar’s save-loading guidance recommends official Sony or Microsoft memory devices when problems persist on a compatible older-console setup. It states that third-party memory cards are unsupported.

- Verify that the device matches the console generation and the specific San Andreas release before buying or connecting it.
- Treat the device recommendation as a compatibility and storage step, not a promise that it can restore a corrupted save.
- Do not delete, reformat or move files as a generic first response. The official guidance reviewed does not establish a safe, universal deletion or reformat procedure for San Andreas saves.
- If the same file fails on supported storage, report the console, release, memory device and exact error or behavior to Rockstar.
If you are shopping for a replacement, search only for an official PlayStation or Microsoft memory device that explicitly supports the console generation and game release you own. Compatibility is narrower than a generic “memory card” label, and no particular model is established here. A correctly supported device can remove a compatibility variable; it cannot turn a damaged save into a working one.
Mobile-specific checks
Android
The mobile support record lists Android v1.87.0 on November 12, 2025 with “General fixes and improvements.” It does not name a San Andreas mission or save correction. If an Android player has a mission stall or save failure, record the app version, device model, mission and whether the save loads before asking support; do not attribute the problem to a named fix that the note does not mention.
iOS
Rockstar’s iOS support article, last updated August 18, 2026, requires iOS 17 or later for updates and technical support. iOS 16 and earlier can still download and play the titles, but they do not receive further updates or technical support. Include the iOS version in any report because it determines whether official update and support paths are available.

For either mobile platform, distinguish an app that launches but cannot advance from an app whose saved game will not load. Include whether the problem follows one save slot or occurs with every slot. That distinction gives support a clearer starting point without assuming a cause that Rockstar has not documented.
Information to send Rockstar Support
Use the San Andreas support hub when the release notes and cheat check do not resolve the issue. Select the category that best matches the behavior, then include:
- Edition: original release, Trilogy Definitive Edition or mobile Definitive Edition.
- Platform and, for mobile, operating-system version.
- Game update or app version, if shown by the platform.
- Mission name, objective and the point at which progress stops.
- Whether the mission fails to trigger, cannot complete, cannot be retried, completes without an autosave, or produces a save that will not load.
- Whether cheats were entered and whether the game was saved afterward.
- Whether an earlier save, especially one from before the cheat, still loads.
- For legacy consoles, the memory-device type and whether it is an official Sony or Microsoft device.
- The exact on-screen error text, if any, and the steps that reproduce the failure.
This level of detail lets support distinguish a mission-script symptom from a damaged save and from a platform or storage problem. Rockstar’s support hub does not promise a save-repair service or guaranteed recovery.
What not to assume
- Do not assume a mission stall has one cause across original, Definitive Edition and mobile releases.
- Do not assume every save that will not load was damaged by cheats; Rockstar describes cheat corruption as a common cause, not the only cause.
- Do not apply the Pier 69 or High Stakes, Low Rider notes to missions that do not match those names and symptoms.
- Do not treat a general “numerous fixes and improvements” entry as proof of a specific correction.
- Do not expect an unsupported third-party memory card to restore a save.
- Do not overwrite the only earlier working save while experimenting.
- Do not delete or reformat storage simply because a file fails to load; no universal safe recovery sequence is established.
- Do not assume that installing a later general update guarantees a fix for an unnamed San Andreas mission.
Quick decision checklist
- Release: original, Trilogy Definitive Edition or mobile Definitive Edition?
- Platform: which console, PC, Android or iOS version?
- Symptom: mission trigger, completion, retry, autosave or loading failure?
- Cheats: were any entered and then saved?
- Earlier file: does a pre-cheat or otherwise older save load?
- Named fix: does the issue specifically match Pier 69 or High Stakes, Low Rider in Trilogy Definitive Edition?
- Storage: if using a legacy console card, is it an official Sony or Microsoft device?
- Escalation: have you supplied the release, platform, mission and exact behavior to Rockstar’s San Andreas support hub?
A safe order for testing
Make one observation at a time. First test an existing older save without changing the newest file. Then verify the game or app version. If the symptom is tied to a named Definitive Edition mission, compare it with update 1.04 before attempting broader changes. If cheats were saved, test the pre-cheat file. On a legacy console, verify the memory device only after preserving the original file. This order keeps the evidence clear and reduces the chance of overwriting the only usable progress.
When reporting, use exact dates and version labels where available: Trilogy update 1.04 was recorded April 30, 2024; update 1.112 was recorded November 25, 2024; Android v1.87.0 was listed November 12, 2025; and the iOS support requirement was updated August 18, 2026. These labels help separate a documented correction from a general maintenance release.

Is every GTA: San Andreas save that will not load caused by cheats?
No. Rockstar calls saved cheat-code corruption a common cause, not the only cause. If cheats were used and saved, try a save from before the cheat; otherwise report the exact release, platform and failure rather than assuming the diagnosis.

What should I do if High Stakes, Low Rider does not autosave?
If you are playing the Trilogy Definitive Edition on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch or PC, check that the relevant update is installed. Rockstar’s April 30, 2024 update 1.04 lists a fix for an autosave not being created after that mission and separately lists a fix for being unable to retry it.
Does the Pier 69 fix apply to the original San Andreas?
The documented Pier 69 progression correction is in the Trilogy Definitive Edition update 1.04 notes. Do not apply it automatically to the original game or mobile edition.
Can a new memory card repair my corrupted save?
No guarantee exists. Rockstar recommends official Sony or Microsoft memory devices for compatible legacy-console setups and says third-party cards are unsupported. The recommendation addresses compatibility and storage, not reconstruction of a damaged save.
Will update 1.112 tell me which San Andreas mission was fixed?
Not specifically. Rockstar’s November 25, 2024 update 1.112 record says “Numerous fixes and improvements” for all platforms and titles but does not name a San Andreas mission or save correction.
Can iOS 16 players receive San Andreas technical support?

What details should I include in a support request?
Provide the edition, platform, game or app version, mission and objective, exact symptom, cheat-use history, whether an earlier save loads, any error text, and memory-device details on a legacy console. Use the San Andreas support hub’s Story Mode Play, Error Code, Q&A or How-To route.
Should I delete or reformat the save storage?
Do not do that as a generic first step. The official guidance does not establish a universal safe deletion or reformat procedure for San Andreas saves. Preserve the working file and escalate with the exact behavior instead.

Start with the release, platform and precise symptom. For a save that will not load after saved cheats, try the pre-cheat save and do not save while using cheats. For Trilogy Definitive Edition, compare matching Pier 69 or High Stakes, Low Rider symptoms with update 1.04 and verify the installed version. On compatible legacy consoles, use only official Sony or Microsoft memory devices. If none of those branches fits, preserve your files and send the complete details through Rockstar’s San Andreas support hub; no universal repair or guaranteed recovery is documented.
