When Gemini gives a wrong place, cannot find a real location, or returns unusable directions, first determine whether the problem is Gemini’s answer, a Maps feature limitation, or incorrect Google Maps data. Open the linked place in Google Maps, compare the listing with reality, then send either product feedback or a map-data correction—the two reports go to different workflows.
The steps below cover Gemini Apps on computer and mobile, Google Maps on desktop and Android, missing-place submissions, business-policy reports, and direction-specific settings. Google reviews edits and feedback, but does not promise immediate action or a fixed correction time.
Identify which layer failed
A bad result can originate in three different places. Choosing the wrong report type slows down the useful fix.

Gemini Apps uses public information from Google Maps to find businesses, stores, restaurants, parks, attractions, place details, and directions. A generated answer is therefore not a separate authoritative database: the linked Maps record is the first thing to inspect. See Google’s Gemini Apps guidance.

A quick decision tree
- If you cannot use place search at all, check sign-in, Activity, account eligibility, and whether the request is supported.
- If Gemini supplies a link, open it. A wrong listing page points to a Maps data issue; a correct page paired with a wrong answer points to Gemini behavior.
- If no public listing exists, use the missing-place form where available.
- If the listing is deceptive or violates business rules, file a business report rather than an ordinary edit.
This distinction matters because a product-feedback form cannot directly change a business address, while a data edit does not explain why Gemini selected the wrong branch when the underlying record is accurate.
Check Gemini’s prerequisites and feature limits
Before treating a response as a data error, verify that the Maps connection is allowed to work for your account and request.
- Sign in to Gemini. Place search requires you to be signed in to your Google account.
- Turn Activity on. Google lists Activity as a prerequisite for Gemini place search. Check the Activity setting in the account used for Gemini, then retry the request.
- Ask for a supported action. Try a concrete request such as “Find vegetarian restaurants near [address]” or “Give directions to [place].” If the request concerns a feature Google does not support through this connection, a refusal or incomplete answer may be expected rather than a broken listing.
- Allow for staged availability. Google says some Maps actions are rolling out gradually and have eligibility limits. A feature documented for Gemini is not necessarily enabled for every account, country, language, device, or release.
Google currently documents two important limitations for Gemini’s Maps connection: it does not provide live traffic updates, and it cannot use saved places other than your saved Work and Home locations. Do not interpret a missing traffic condition or an unavailable saved list as evidence that a place record is wrong. The supported-action details are listed in Google’s Gemini Apps help page.

A limitation usually appears consistently for a whole class of requests—for example, asking for current congestion or a saved list other than Work and Home. A malfunction is more specific: Gemini may fail to open a supported place, return a different city despite a clear address, or give an answer that conflicts with the linked listing. Repeat the request once with an exact street address and city. If the same supported action still fails while Maps itself shows the expected place, preserve both examples for feedback.
Do not confuse Gemini Apps place search with Ask Maps inside Google Maps. They are separate product surfaces, so a feedback control documented for Ask Maps does not automatically apply to a Gemini Apps response.
Open the linked place and inspect the actual Maps record
Gemini responses can include a linked place name. Click or tap that name rather than relying on the prose alone. Google’s instruction is: “To open a place’s details page in Google Maps, click the place’s linked name in Gemini’s response.” Read the complete guidance at Google Gemini Apps Help.
- Open the Gemini conversation containing the result.
- Select the linked place name. If several places are listed, open each candidate separately.
- On the Maps details page, compare the public name, street address, map pin, category, phone number, website, hours, and other visible details with the place’s real-world information.
- Check whether Gemini selected a similarly named business in another neighborhood or city. A correct listing in the wrong area is still a selection error; a wrong address on the page is a Maps-data problem.
- Record the exact prompt, the result Gemini returned, and the Maps URL or place name before submitting a report. This makes it possible for a reviewer to distinguish a retrieval error from a stale record.
Opening the page lets you compare the source listing; it does not prove that every detail is current. Hours, temporary closures, and other facts can change, so use the appropriate correction route for any field that is demonstrably wrong.

Start with identity and location: spelling, branch number, street address, neighborhood, city, and map pin. Then compare the category and contact details. A chain may have several valid pages with nearly identical names, and a pin can be misplaced even when the street address is correct. Note whether the page is marked temporarily closed or permanently closed, but do not infer that a status label alone proves a listing is fraudulent. Save the page link and, if appropriate, a screenshot showing the mismatch.
For directions, check both endpoints. Gemini may interpret “home,” “work,” or an ambiguous landmark differently from what you intended. A route starting from the wrong location can be caused by device or browser location permission or by an outdated saved Work or Home address, not by the destination record.

When the Maps listing is wrong: suggest a data correction
If the place page itself contains inaccurate information, use Google Maps’ data-error process rather than reporting Gemini. Google’s Report data or content errors on Google Maps guidance covers incorrect place, address, and road information. Follow the form for the specific field, describe what is wrong, and provide the corrected information as precisely as possible.
Correct an existing place or address
Use the report-data route when the record exists but has a wrong name, address, map position, category, or similar factual detail. State the actual information and explain how you know it. If a business has moved, include the current address rather than merely saying that the old one is incorrect. Submit one clear report per distinct issue when the form separates fields.
Describe the replacement value plainly: give the complete street address, the correct public name, or the position relative to a nearby road when a pin is wrong. Avoid adding private residences or personal information as public places. Google’s correction tools are for map information that should be visible to the public.
Add a missing public place on a computer
On Google Maps for desktop, search for the address or area where the place should appear. Choose Add a missing place and complete the on-screen form with the public name, location, category, and other requested details. Google documents this workflow at Add a missing place to Google Maps on computer.
Add a missing public place on Android
In the Google Maps Android app, open Contribute, select Add place, and follow the prompts. Google’s Android instructions are at Add a missing place to Google Maps on Android. Enter a place that is genuinely public and provide enough location detail for reviewers to identify it.
Understand regional availability and review
Google says correction tools are available only in some countries and regions. If you do not see the option, the limitation may be regional rather than a problem with your account. Submitted edits and additions are reviewed; they may not appear immediately, and Google does not promise that every proposed change will be accepted. For a missing place, Google’s Android instructions state that an added place shows publicly once added, but that statement is not a guaranteed approval time for every submission.
If a form is unavailable, you can still verify whether the place is absent by searching its exact name, address, and nearby landmarks in Maps. Do not create duplicate entries simply because Gemini failed to retrieve an existing listing. Search spelling variations and the surrounding area first.
When the Maps record is right: report Gemini or app behavior
If the linked listing is accurate but Gemini still gives the wrong place, fails to follow a supported request, or produces a misleading response, submit product feedback. Describe the software or response problem, not a request to alter the Maps database.
Send product feedback in Google Maps on Android
- Open Google Maps.
- Tap your profile picture or initial.
- Choose Help & feedback.
- Select Send product feedback.
- Write the exact Gemini prompt, what Gemini returned, what you expected, and the device and app context. Add a screenshot when it shows the error clearly.
- Send the report.

Google advises, “Be as specific as possible. If you’re not sure what something is called, you can describe it instead.” Its general Maps guidance also warns: “However, it’s unlikely your feedback will be acted upon immediately.” Those statements appear in How to send us feedback in Google Maps and the Android instructions above. Feedback is useful for diagnosing product behavior, but it is not a request for a guaranteed individual reply.

Report a Google Maps interface problem on desktop
If the failure is in the Maps website or Maps experience itself rather than the Gemini answer, open Google Maps on your computer, select Menu, choose Edit the map, and then Your opinions about Maps. This desktop path is documented by Google Maps Help. Use the data-error workflow instead when the complaint is about a place record.
What product feedback should say
Write a short reproduction: “I asked [exact prompt]. Gemini returned [exact response] and linked [place]. The Maps page shows [fact], but I expected [specific result].” Add whether the problem occurred once or repeatedly, your device or browser, and the approximate time. A screenshot should show the relevant response without exposing account details, private messages, home addresses, or other sensitive information.
Report a fake, misleading, or policy-violating business separately
A factual correction and a conduct report are different. If a listing appears fabricated, impersonates another business, misrepresents its location, or otherwise violates Google’s business policies, use Report a business on Google Maps. Explain the suspected violation and supply supporting details requested by the form. Do not use an ordinary address edit as a substitute for a policy report, and do not label a legitimate disagreement about hours or category as fraud without evidence.
Use the ordinary correction route for a straightforward typo, moved address, wrong category, or misplaced pin. Reserve the business-reporting workflow for suspected authenticity or conduct problems. Keeping those reports separate gives Google the type of information each review process expects.
Fix direction results affected by location settings
Directions can look wrong even when both Gemini and the place record are functioning normally. Location permission and saved Work or Home locations can influence the starting point and destination interpretation. Check that the device or browser is allowed to provide the intended location, and review the saved Work and Home addresses if Gemini repeatedly starts or ends a route at the wrong place.
Do not expect Gemini’s Maps connection to supply live traffic conditions or use saved places other than Work and Home; Google lists those as unsupported. For current traffic or a broader saved-place list, open Google Maps directly and use the controls available there. When checking a route, compare the exact destination pin and the selected starting point in Google Maps. If the destination pin is wrong, correct the place record. If both points are right but the route lacks current congestion information, that is an unsupported live-traffic expectation rather than a missing-place defect.
Use this scenario playbook
“Gemini shows the wrong branch of a chain.”
Open the linked result, compare its address with the branch you named, and check whether your prompt included a city, neighborhood, or street. If the page is a valid but different branch, report the Gemini selection as product behavior and make the location constraint explicit in future prompts. If the page itself has the wrong address, submit a Maps data correction.

“Gemini cannot find a real restaurant or attraction.”
Confirm that you are signed in with Activity on, then open Google Maps and search the exact name and address. If no listing exists, use Add a missing place where available. If Maps has a correct listing but Gemini misses it, send product feedback with the exact wording and the listing you expected it to find.
“The place appears, but the address or pin is wrong.”
Do not submit a Gemini-only complaint. Report the incorrect place or address through Google’s data-error route, include the corrected location, and allow time for review.
“Directions ignore current congestion.”
This is consistent with a documented limitation: live traffic updates are not supported through Gemini’s Maps connection. Use Google Maps directly for traffic-aware navigation rather than reporting the absence of live traffic as a missing-place error.
“A business listing looks fake or deceptive.”
Use the business-reporting workflow. Ordinary edits change factual fields; a policy report asks Google to investigate conduct or authenticity.

“Gemini gives a place in the wrong city.”
Open the linked page and verify the city and address. If the page is a legitimate place in another city, send product feedback and include the city you specified. If the page claims to be in your city but its address is wrong, submit a data correction instead.

- Do not combine unrelated issues. A wrong address, a missing place, and a poor Gemini answer require different forms.
- Do not assume a plausible answer is a verified recommendation. Always open the linked Maps page and check the location.
- Do not report unsupported features as bugs. Live traffic and saved places beyond Work and Home are documented limits.
- Do not promise yourself a deadline. Google does not provide a fixed correction time in the cited guidance, and says feedback is unlikely to be acted on immediately.
- Do not omit the expected result. A report that says only “wrong” gives reviewers no way to compare the observed behavior with what you requested.
- Do not assume every region has the same controls. Add-place and correction tools vary by country and region.
- Do not create a duplicate listing. Search nearby and try alternate spellings before adding a place that may already exist.
- Do not expose unnecessary personal information. Crop screenshots and describe locations without including private account or home details.
What to include in a useful report
A concise, reproducible report is more actionable than a long narrative. Include:
- The exact prompt entered in Gemini.
- The place name Gemini returned and the linked Maps page, if one was provided.
- What you expected Gemini or Maps to show.
- The real-world name, address, or location that should replace the incorrect information.
- Your device, operating system, app or browser, and approximate time of the failure.
- A screenshot when it captures the response or map error without exposing sensitive personal information.
For a map edit, identify the field that is wrong and provide the corrected value. For a missing place, give the public name, precise location, and category requested by the form. For a business-policy report, explain the suspected conduct rather than merely repeating that Gemini selected it. This level of detail helps route the issue without implying that approval or a response is guaranteed.
Use product feedback for a Gemini response or application problem, map-data editing for an incorrect or absent record, and business reporting for suspected policy violations. That separation is the practical way to get an inaccurate Gemini Maps result routed to the team and workflow that can address it.

Why is Gemini showing the wrong place?
First open the linked place name in Google Maps. If the page is the wrong branch or city but its details are accurate, report Gemini’s response as product behavior and include your exact prompt. If the page itself has a wrong address, name, pin, or category, submit a Maps data correction.

How do I report a missing place on Google Maps?
On desktop, search the location and choose Add a missing place. On Android, open Google Maps, choose Contribute, then Add place. Complete the public name, location, category, and other requested fields. Availability varies by country or region, and submissions are reviewed.
Can Gemini use live traffic or all my saved places?
No. Google documents live traffic updates and saved places other than Work and Home as unsupported through Gemini’s Maps connection. Use Google Maps directly for traffic conditions or a broader saved-place list.
What if Gemini cannot find a place that is already on Maps?
Confirm that you are signed in, Activity is on, and the request is supported. Open the exact Maps listing yourself, then send product feedback with the prompt, the listing link or name, what Gemini returned, and what you expected.

Google reviews edits and additions, but does not promise a fixed correction time or acceptance of every proposed change. Product feedback is also unlikely to be acted on immediately.
Should I report a fake business as a data error?
Use Google’s Report a business on Google Maps workflow for suspected fake, misleading, impersonating, or policy-violating listings. Use ordinary map edits for factual errors such as a typo, wrong address, or misplaced pin.
Why are Gemini directions starting from the wrong place?
Check device or browser location permission and review saved Work and Home addresses. Those settings can affect directions. Also verify the destination pin in Google Maps before deciding whether the place record is wrong.
Is Ask Maps feedback the same as Gemini Apps feedback?
No. Ask Maps inside Google Maps and Gemini Apps are separate product surfaces. Use the feedback path applicable to the product that produced the response.

Verify the linked Google Maps listing before reporting anything. Correct the Maps record or add the missing public place when the data is wrong; send product feedback when the listing is right but Gemini behaves incorrectly; and use business reporting for suspected deception or policy violations. Sign-in, Activity, regional rollout, location settings, and unsupported live-traffic or saved-place features can all affect what Gemini can do, and none of Google’s workflows promises an immediate fix.
