If your Galaxy A57 5G started losing charge unusually quickly after installing One UI 9.0, first identify what is consuming the power rather than assuming the update is defective. Confirm the installed build, update the phone and its apps, inspect Settings > Battery, then test with reversible settings changes. If the drain continues, Safe mode and Samsung’s diagnostics can separate a downloaded-app problem from a system or hardware issue.
Samsung’s release record confirms One UI 9 for Galaxy A57 5G model SM-A576B on October 12, 2026. That notice does not establish that One UI 9 causes battery drain on the A57. Availability, build details and settings can differ by country, carrier and model variant, so use the menus and software information shown on your own phone.
What the One UI 9 timing does—and does not—prove
A battery problem that appears after an update has a timing association, not automatically a confirmed cause. The official A57 release information identifies the SM-A576B model and release date, but it does not report a battery-drain defect, an affected-device rate or a guaranteed recovery period. Background activity, an app that was updated at the same time, weak cellular signal, changed sync settings or an aging battery can all produce the same symptom.

The practical objective is to collect evidence in this order:
- Which software build and model are installed?
- Is one app or activity using an unusual share of the battery?
- Does the behavior change after optimization and background limits?
- Does the drain improve when downloaded apps are disabled in Safe mode?
- Does Samsung’s diagnostic tool identify a battery or charging problem?
These checks narrow the likely cause; they are not controlled tests proving that One UI 9 itself is responsible.
1. Confirm the model, software build and available patches
Before changing settings, record what is actually installed. A regional or carrier variant may receive a different build or at a different time from the SM-A576B release notice.
- Open Settings > About phone and note the model name and model number.
- Open Settings > Software information. Record the One UI version, Android version, build number and Android security patch level.
- Return to Settings and select Software update > Download and install. Install any later update offered for your device, then restart when prompted.
- Open your phone’s app store and install pending updates for all apps. Pay particular attention to apps that run continuously, use location, stream media, manage accounts or synchronize files.
Keep the phone connected to a reliable charger and Wi-Fi while installing updates. A later corrective build may be available in one country or carrier channel before another; “up to date” means up to date for the software channel your phone can currently access.
2. Read the battery-usage evidence
Start with the phone’s own usage record instead of guessing from the percentage alone.

- Open Settings > Battery.
- Tap the battery graph or Battery usage (the exact label can vary by software version).
- Review the period that includes the abnormal drain and open the details for individual apps or activities.
- Compare the listed use with what you actually did during that period: screen-on time, video or games, navigation, camera use, calls, hotspot use and charging.
An app near the top is not automatically faulty. A navigation app used for two hours should consume more than an app you opened once. Look for a mismatch, such as an app showing substantial background use when you did not use it, or rapid loss while the screen was mostly off.
Note whether the drain is concentrated in one of three patterns:
- Screen-on drain: high brightness, long screen time, video, games, camera or navigation are plausible explanations.
- Background drain: an app, synchronization task, repeated crash or location process may be running while the screen is off.
- Radio or signal drain: poor cellular reception, constant network searching, hotspot use or frequent Bluetooth/GPS activity can increase consumption.
Take a screenshot or write down the leading entries, their percentages and the time range. Compare another ordinary-use period after each change you make. One snapshot cannot establish a software defect, and changing several settings at once makes the result difficult to interpret.
3. Apply reversible battery controls
Run Device care optimization
- Open Settings > Device care.
- Tap Optimize now (or Quick optimization, depending on the installed software).
- Review the reported results and restart if Device care recommends it.
Optimization can close unnecessary background activity and identify settings that affect performance. It does not repair a worn battery or guarantee that a particular app will stop consuming power.
Limit rarely used apps
- Open Settings > Device care > Battery.
- Select Background usage limits.
- Place genuinely infrequently used apps in Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps, using the option available on your A57.
Use these limits selectively. A sleeping app may delay notifications, widgets, uploads, backups or other background work. Do not deep-sleep a messaging, security, authentication or accessibility app if you need immediate operation.

Try Power saving when you need a diagnostic comparison
In Settings > Device care > Battery, open Power saving and enable it temporarily. Samsung describes this mode as reducing activities such as background network use, synchronization and location checking. It can also affect convenience, notifications and performance. Use it for a comparable period, such as several hours of normal use, and record whether standby loss changes; do not treat the mode as a permanent cure without understanding what it disables.

The A57 guide mentions a Light performance profile on supported software. If your phone displays that option under its battery or performance controls, read the on-screen description and enable it only if its lower-performance trade-off suits your use. If the option is absent, do not install a substitute or assume that another model’s menu applies to your device.
Review charging and protection settings
The Battery area also contains battery information, battery-protection and charging controls on supported versions. These features can change how the phone charges or limits a charge level; they do not explain a sudden increase in consumption by themselves. Check that a cable, charger or loose connection is not causing repeated charge interruptions that look like rapid drain.
4. Check for conditions that make any phone drain faster
Use the same Battery usage screen while checking the environment in which the drain occurs.
- Weak signal: compare behavior in a location with reliable cellular reception. A phone that repeatedly searches for service can use more power.
- High temperature: remove insulating cases during charging and avoid leaving the phone in direct heat. Heat can increase consumption and reduce charging efficiency.
- Display settings: temporarily lower brightness, shorten screen timeout and disable an always-on display feature if you use one. These are diagnostic changes, not proof that the update caused the problem.
- Location, Bluetooth and hotspot: turn off a feature you are not using, then compare an equivalent period of use.
- Recent app changes: note apps installed or updated at the same time as the battery symptom. Do not remove system components merely because they appear in the usage list.
Keep a simple log with the starting percentage, elapsed time, screen-on activity, signal conditions and ending percentage. A comparison made under similar conditions is more useful than comparing a busy travel day with an idle night.

5. Use Safe mode to isolate downloaded apps
Safe mode starts the phone with downloaded apps disabled. It is a diagnostic test, not a factory reset, and it does not prove a hardware fault if the problem remains.
- Open the on-device Power menu. On many Samsung software builds, you can do this by pressing and holding the side key with the volume-down key, or by opening the Quick panel and tapping the power icon.
- Touch and hold Power off until the Safe mode option appears.
- Tap Safe mode and confirm. The phone restarts and displays a Safe mode indicator.
- Use the phone under conditions similar to your normal test: make a call, use Wi-Fi or mobile data as usual and leave it idle for a comparable period.
- Restart normally to leave Safe mode.
If standby or ordinary-use drain improves substantially in Safe mode, a downloaded app is more likely to be contributing. In normal mode, uninstall or update recently installed or recently updated apps one at a time, then repeat the comparison. Start with apps that appeared high in Battery usage or that run continuously in the background.
If the drain is essentially unchanged in Safe mode, downloaded apps are less likely to be the main explanation. Continue with software checks, Samsung diagnostics and support rather than deleting apps at random. Safe mode cannot by itself distinguish a system bug, battery wear, charging problem or radio-related drain.

- Open its support or diagnostics area and run the available battery or device checks.
- Read the result and save any reference number, warning or recommended action.
- Also check Settings > Device care for a diagnostics or support entry available on your build.
Contact Samsung support when the abnormal drain persists after current updates, a controlled settings comparison and Safe mode, or when diagnostics reports a battery, charging or hardware concern. Provide the model number, software build, update date, Battery usage screenshots, Safe mode result and diagnostic output. This information is more useful than saying only that the battery “dies fast.”

Seek service sooner if the phone becomes unusually hot, the battery or rear cover swells, the device shuts down unexpectedly, charging repeatedly stops, or the percentage changes abruptly. Stop using a visibly swollen or damaged battery and follow Samsung’s safety instructions rather than attempting a battery replacement yourself.
7. Treat a factory reset as a last resort
A factory reset erases personal data and settings. It may remove corrupted configuration or an app conflict, but it is not a guaranteed cure, and Samsung cautions that an app awaiting a fix can cause the problem again after the reset.
Before considering it:
- Back up photos, messages, contacts, authenticator data and other important files.
- Confirm that you know the Google and Samsung account credentials requested during setup.
- Record your current software build and diagnostic results.
- Remove or transfer files stored only on the phone and verify that the backup can be restored.
- Ask Samsung support whether a known service issue or later build exists.
If support recommends a reset, use the reset path shown on your phone and follow the on-screen warnings. After setup, test the phone before reinstalling every app. Install apps in small groups so that a returning drain can be traced. Do not restore a problematic app or configuration blindly.
How to interpret the results

None of these outcomes is a measured test of One UI 9 as a whole. They are practical ways to distinguish app, settings, network, software-build and hardware possibilities on one phone.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming causation from timing: an update and a battery symptom can coincide without the update being the cause.
- Using a single percentage as proof: battery percentage depends on screen time, signal, temperature and the battery’s condition.
- Restricting every app: excessive background limits can break notifications, uploads and account synchronization.
- Deleting system apps: remove only downloaded apps you can identify and test safely.
- Resetting before backing up: a reset is destructive and may not solve an unresolved app or service issue.
- Comparing unlike days: compare similar screen time, network conditions and tasks.
When a later software notice matters
Check Settings > Software update periodically and review Samsung support notices for your exact model and region. The SM-A576B release information is dated October 12, 2026, and later advisories may change the recommended action. Do not apply instructions for another A57 variant, country or carrier unless Samsung lists your model and software channel.

Why is my Galaxy A57 battery draining so fast after the One UI 9.0 update?
The timing alone does not prove that One UI 9 caused the drain. Check Settings > Battery for an unusually active app or background process, install available phone and app updates, compare normal mode with Safe mode, and run Samsung diagnostics if the symptom continues.
How do I check battery usage on a Galaxy A57?

No. A reset erases data and may not solve a problem caused by an app awaiting an update or fix. Back up first and use a reset only after software checks and Samsung support or diagnostics indicate it is appropriate.
