Start by checking whether the Forza Horizon 6 expansion is released in your region and owned by the Microsoft account you are using. The current Xbox Expansion Bundle listing describes both expansions as upcoming, while Playground Games says the Premium Edition and Premium Upgrade include them when they become available. The listed pages do not provide a release date, so an expansion that has not launched cannot be made installable by resetting Windows or reinstalling the game. Check the live listing and current Forza announcements before troubleshooting anything else.
If the add-on has launched and your account owns it, match the fix to your platform, PC storefront, and symptom: missing from the library, an Install button that does nothing, a download error, or an add-on that downloads but is not recognized in-game.
1. Confirm the expansion is available and included with your account
Availability and entitlement are separate from installation. The Xbox Expansion Bundle page currently says: “Both Expansions will be available to purchase separately and are included in the Forza Horizon 6 Premium Edition and Premium Upgrade.” The official launch announcement likewise says the expansions are included with Premium products but will be available later. Neither page supplies a release date. Recheck both pages immediately before trying repairs:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf the listing still says the content is upcoming, there is no local installation problem to solve. Buying a Premium Upgrade or repeatedly reinstalling the base game will not unlock unreleased files. If the expansion is released, continue with the checks below.

Check the purchasing account
Sign in to the Microsoft Store and the Xbox app with the same Microsoft account that bought the expansion or owns the Premium Edition/Premium Upgrade. A game can be installed under one account while the add-on entitlement belongs to another. On the product page, the control should read Owned or Install, not Buy.
Microsoft identifies several reasons an owned download may be hidden or blocked: the wrong region, family restrictions, incompatible device, account authorization, or a Windows update that still requires a restart. Complete any pending restart before judging the entitlement. Use Microsoft’s account and library guidance for the current interface: Find and install your Microsoft downloads from Microsoft Store.
2. Identify your installation path before changing anything
FH6 is available on Xbox Series X|S and PC. On PC, the supported storefronts identified by Forza are the Xbox app/Microsoft Store and Steam. The storefront determines where ownership and installation are managed.
| Player setup | Where to verify ownership and install | Important dependency |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox Series X|S | Microsoft account, console library, and the game’s add-on management screen | The expansion must be released and owned by the signed-in account |
| Windows PC via Xbox app/Microsoft Store | Microsoft Store > My Library or Order history; Xbox app can provide an alternate install path | Windows updates and Gaming Services |
| Windows PC via Steam | Steam manages the game download, but Microsoft account entitlement and FH6’s PC services still matter | Gaming Services version 37.114.10001.0 or later |
Forza’s launch information lists Xbox Series X|S and PC, with the Xbox app and Steam as the PC options: official Forza announcement.
Record the exact symptom before proceeding. Note whether the base game installs, whether the expansion is marked owned, whether the button does nothing, any error code such as 0x80070490, and whether the download completes but the content is absent in-game. Do not treat a missing library entry and a failed download as the same fault.

3. Install a released, owned add-on from the correct library
Windows: Microsoft Store and Xbox app
- Open the Microsoft Store and confirm the signed-in account under your profile.
- Select Library (shown as My Library in some layouts).
- Search for Forza Horizon 6 and its expansion. An item that has not been downloaded should show the download/install control.
- If the product appears in Order history, open that purchase and use its installation option.
- Install or verify the base game first. An add-on may not register correctly while the game it modifies is absent.
- If the Store button does nothing, open the Xbox app, sign in with the same account, locate FH6, and try the add-on or game installation there.
Microsoft documents the library, order-history, and Xbox app routes in its installation article: Microsoft Store installation help.
Xbox Series X|S
- Make sure the console uses the account that owns the released expansion.
- Verify that the base game is installed and has completed any required update.
- Open the game’s management or add-ons screen and look for the expansion under owned content.
- If the add-on is absent, check the Xbox account’s owned games and order history rather than purchasing it again.
- Restart the console after a completed system or game update, then check the add-on screen again.
The available evidence does not establish a special Xbox-only repair command. If an owned item remains missing after account, release, and library checks, treat it as an entitlement or service issue and escalate with the purchase details.
Steam
Use Steam for the game files and download queue, but do not assume Steam alone can repair a Microsoft entitlement. FH6’s PC Gaming Services requirement applies to the Steam version as well as the Xbox app version. If Steam shows the game but the expansion is not recognized, verify the Microsoft account used for FH6 and complete the Gaming Services check in the next section.
4. Update Gaming Services on every PC version
Forza Support lists Gaming Services version 37.114.10001.0 or later for FH6 on PC, including Steam. An outdated service can prevent installation or cause the warning “Invalid Gaming Services Detected.” The requirement is a version threshold, not a claim about how many players encounter the problem.
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Select Downloads (or Library, depending on the Store layout).
- Choose Check for updates.
- Install the Gaming Services update if one is offered.
- Restart Windows and try the FH6 installation again.
To check the installed version, open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps, find Gaming Services, and inspect its version. Forza’s FH6-specific instructions are here: Update Gaming Services Before Playing Forza Horizon 6 on PC.

Steam users should perform this check even though Steam supplies the game launcher. The Gaming Services dependency is part of FH6 on PC, not an Xbox-app-only condition.

Use these steps on Windows only. They are not Xbox console procedures.
Check Windows update state and restart
Open Settings > Windows Update, install pending updates, and restart when Windows requests it. Microsoft notes that an incomplete restart can prevent a Store item from becoming installable. After rebooting, confirm the Store and Xbox app use the same account and retry from the library.
Reset the Store cache
Microsoft documents wsreset.exe for resetting the Microsoft Store app. Press Windows key + R, enter wsreset.exe, and run it. Wait for the Store to reopen, then sign in if necessary and retry the download. This clears Store cache state; it does not create an entitlement for an unreleased or unowned expansion.
Repair or reset the affected apps
Forza’s PC troubleshooting guidance includes resetting the Microsoft Store and Forza apps and repairing or reinstalling Gaming Services. Use the Windows Settings controls rather than copying an unexplained script:

6. Try the separate base-game and DLC sequence as a reported workaround
Some players discussing a May 2026 Premium-content error in Microsoft Q&A reported success by installing the base game as a separate item and then installing the DLC separately. Other participants said starting the download in the Xbox app worked when the Store did not. These are individual reports, not a guaranteed Microsoft fix, but they are reasonable after release and ownership have been confirmed.
- Cancel a stalled combined queue only if the Store or Xbox app allows it without removing your entitlement.
- From the library, install the base FH6 game by itself.
- Launch the game once after the base installation completes, then close it.
- Return to My Library or Order history and start the released, owned expansion as a separate item.
- If the Store still does nothing, repeat the DLC start from the Xbox app.
Do not buy the expansion again merely because the first install attempt failed. The report and discussion are here: Microsoft Q&A thread about error 0x80070490.

A June 2026 Microsoft Q&A report described owned FH6 VIP DLC whose Install button did nothing. A Microsoft External Staff moderator advised confirming that the base game was fully installed and launched, then installing the DLC separately from Microsoft Store My Library or Order history. If the add-on still did not appear, the moderator identified the likely category as an account entitlement issue and directed the player to Forza Support with purchase details.

8. Match common symptoms to the likely cause
| Symptom | Most useful first checks | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| The expansion is not listed | Check release status, account, region, edition, and My Library/Order history | Do not assume a reinstall will reveal unreleased or unowned content |
| Store shows Install, but clicking does nothing | Restart after Windows updates, run wsreset.exe, repair Store, then try the Xbox app |
Do not assume the purchase is missing until the account and order history are checked |
| Base game downloads but Premium content fails | Install the base game separately, launch it once, then start the DLC separately | The separate-install sequence is a community report, not a guaranteed fix |
| Download reports error 0x80070490 | Check account, release, library path, Store cache, and Gaming Services | A forum report does not establish a universal cause or failure rate |
| Content downloads but is not recognized | Verify the Microsoft account, launch the base game, update Gaming Services on PC, and check the add-on’s owned status | Do not purchase a second copy before support checks the entitlement |
| “Invalid Gaming Services Detected” | Update Gaming Services to 37.114.10001.0 or later and restart Windows | This requirement applies to Steam as well as the Xbox app on PC |
9. Know when the problem is an entitlement or service failure
Stop repeating local resets when the evidence points to the account or service side. Escalate if all of the following are true: the expansion is released, the purchasing account is signed in, the product shows owned, the base game is installed, and the item still does not appear in My Library, Order history, or the Xbox app.
Contact Microsoft Store/Xbox Support for purchase, account, or ownership problems. Contact Forza Support when the owned add-on is present but FH6 does not recognize it. Include:

Quick Recap
10. A short decision path
- Is the expansion released? If the live Xbox listing still says upcoming, wait for official availability.
- Does the account own it? Check the same Microsoft account in Store and Xbox app, and verify Owned or Install.
- Is the base game installed? Install and launch it before installing the add-on.
- Which storefront applies? Use console library tools, Microsoft Store/Xbox app library, or Steam; do not mix ownership assumptions between them.
- Is this Windows? Update Gaming Services to 37.114.10001.0 or later, install pending Windows updates, restart, and retry.
- Does the Store button remain inert? Run
wsreset.exe, repair the Store, and try the Xbox app. - Does the item remain owned but unavailable? Try the separate base-game/DLC sequence once, then escalate with evidence instead of repurchasing.
