Enshrouded crashes, poor frame rates, and multiplayer failures are different problems, so they do not share one universal fix. First note your game and dedicated-server versions, PC hardware, whether the problem occurs solo or only online, and the exact point of failure. Then follow the section that matches the symptom.
The most reliable starting points are Keen Games’ current requirements, update notes, and network guidance. They establish hardware baselines and network checks, but they do not establish a single graphics preset, a universal crash cause, or a guaranteed fix for every system.
Start with a short diagnosis
Write down these details before changing settings. They make patterns easier to see and give support a reproducible case if the problem continues.
- Versions: Record the Enshrouded client version and, if applicable, the dedicated-server version. Update both before testing.
- Hardware: Note your Windows edition, processor, graphics card and VRAM, installed memory, and free storage.
- Scope: Test a solo world, then a multiplayer session if possible. Record whether the issue is local, online-only, or present in both.
- Trigger: Identify whether it happens at launch, while loading a world, in a particular area, after a certain amount of play, when specific audio hardware is connected, when another player joins, or during server discovery.
- Exact symptom: Distinguish a desktop crash, a failed launch, low rendered frame rate, rubber-banding, delayed actions, a disconnect, or an empty server list. These symptoms can have different causes.
Check updates and the official hardware baseline
Install available game updates first. Historical patches show that Keen Games has fixed specific crashes, but an old fix does not prove that it applies to a current failure. Check the current changelog for a matching symptom and keep the client and dedicated server on compatible, current versions.

Meeting a listed baseline does not guarantee a particular frame rate or prevent every crash. It tells you whether advanced troubleshooting is reasonable; hardware below the baseline can make both stability and performance problems more likely. Also verify that the game is using the intended discrete GPU rather than an integrated adapter.
Fix crashes and failure to launch
1. Update before changing configurations
Update Enshrouded through your game client and update a dedicated server separately if you run one. Read the current changelog for a note that matches your trigger. Do not treat a historical patch note as a promise that your present crash is fixed.
2. Compare every relevant requirement
Check 64-bit Windows 10 support, 16 GB of RAM, the listed 6 GB graphics-memory baseline, processor capability, and available storage. If the game is installed on a drive that is nearly full, free space before testing, but do not assume storage alone is the cause.
3. Reproduce the failure in controlled cases
- Launch the game with your normal setup and record the exact point of failure.
- Try loading a different world, if one is available, and note whether only one save triggers the crash.
- Test a solo session and then an online session. This comparison indicates scope, but it does not identify a single cause by itself.
- If the failure appears only with a particular headset, sound card, or other audio device, record its model and connection state.
- For a dedicated server, test the server executable separately from the game client and record whether the server starts, creates its configuration, and remains running.
A failed launch and a crash after entering a world should be reported as different reproductions. Include the exact sequence rather than describing both as “the game crashes.”

4. Use the supported bug-report route
If the game opens, use the in-game Report a Bug option. If it will not start, use the external form provided in Keen Games’ official support article. Include:
- Clear, numbered reproduction steps.
- The client log and its backup folder.
- A DxDiag report.
- The affected save files, when a particular world is involved.
- For dedicated-server failures, the server logs and server saves.
Keep an untouched backup of saves before experimenting. A report that states the version, trigger, frequency, solo/online scope, and attached logs is more actionable than a generic crash description.
What a historical crash fix does—and does not—tell you
Keen Games’ Hotfix #27, revision 716889, published June 25, 2025, listed a crash on worlds with large player bases after long play and a crash associated with specific audio hardware. It also said the recommended Nvidia driver was updated to the latest version for RTX 50-series stability. These are examples of previously fixed, narrowly described issues. They are not evidence that every current crash has the same cause or that installing one driver version will resolve all systems.
Diagnose and improve low FPS
First separate rendering performance from network lag
Low rendered FPS appears as consistently slow or uneven visual motion. Network trouble appears as rubber-banding, delayed actions, players teleporting, or actions completing late even while the camera remains smooth. If the main symptom is delay or rollback, use the multiplayer section rather than lowering graphics settings.
Confirm the baseline and the active GPU
Use the hardware table above as the first check. Confirm in Windows and your graphics-driver control panel that Enshrouded is assigned to the intended GPU. A system with 6 GB of VRAM can still perform differently depending on its processor, thermals, driver state, resolution, and scene complexity.

Keep a diagnostic record
No official source establishes a universal Enshrouded graphics preset or fixed FPS cap. Instead, record enough information to identify a repeatable pattern:
- Display resolution and refresh rate.
- Every graphics setting you changed.
- Observed frame rate and whether it is stable or fluctuates.
- GPU and CPU utilization, if your monitoring software provides it.
- The location or activity where performance changes.
- Whether the frame rate changes when other players are present.
Compare one change at a time and restore a previous setting if it makes the result worse. A location-specific drop can point to scene complexity; a drop only with several players can involve simulation or host resources; a symptom that coincides with delayed actions may be network-related. These observations guide troubleshooting but are not a Keen Games-prescribed benchmark protocol.
Be cautious with community tweaks
Configuration edits, launch arguments, driver-rollbacks, and one-off presets shared by players can depend on a particular GPU, driver, or game build. The available official guidance does not validate a general-purpose FPS workaround. Save your original settings, change one variable at a time, and avoid treating an anecdotal improvement as a guaranteed fix.
Fix multiplayer connection, discovery, and disconnect problems
Keen Games’ network guidance treats an empty server list, a missing peer-to-peer session, Wi-Fi packet loss, and server overload as separate cases. Follow this order for random drops or a server list that does not populate.
- Verify requirements and versions. Confirm that the affected PCs meet the listed baseline and that the game and dedicated server are updated and compatible.
- Check the query port. The default
queryPortis 15637. If you changed it, use the value in the server configuration. Steam’s additional required ports also apply; check the current official network article and your router or firewall documentation before creating rules. - Clear Steam’s download cache. In the Steam client, open Settings, choose Downloads, and use Clear Download Cache. Sign in again when prompted, then retest discovery.
- Flush DNS. Open Command Prompt and run
ipconfig /flushdns. Windows should report that the DNS resolver cache was successfully flushed. - Test another DNS resolver if discovery still fails. Keen Games’ guide gives Google’s DNS addresses
8.8.8.8and8.8.4.4as an optional test. Changing DNS will not repair a blocked port or an overloaded host. - Test the physical connection. Keen Games states: “Should you experience high package loss while playing on wifi, try switching to a cable connection instead.” Use wired Ethernet as a diagnostic comparison when Wi-Fi packet loss is high. A cable cannot solve a server-side capacity problem or a client crash.
- Check the address-family limitation. Keen Games states: “Please note that Enshrouded is currently only utilizing IPv4 for multiplayer.” Do not assume an IPv6-only path is supported. If your network supplies only IPv6 to the relevant host, involve the network administrator or provider.
Port forwarding is configuration-specific. The correct rule depends on whether you host from a home router, behind carrier-grade NAT, or through a provider. Forwarding an arbitrary range can create security and connectivity problems, so use the current official port list and your router’s exact interface rather than copying an unverified rule.

When a peer-to-peer session is missing
For a peer-to-peer session that friends cannot see, make the hosting player’s Steam profile privacy public and test again. If the session remains invisible, invite friends directly from the Steam friends list. This is a discovery check, not a replacement for the port, DNS, and packet-loss steps above.
Recognize the difference between a drop and an overloaded host
A disconnect that affects everyone at once can point to the host connection or server process. Rubber-banding that worsens as more players join can indicate host resources or upload capacity. A server that never appears in discovery needs network and port checks first. Record which players are affected, how many were active, and whether the server process remained running.

The official FAQ says Enshrouded can be played solo or offline, cooperatively, and in sessions of up to 16 players. A dedicated server is an alternative when players do not want the host to remain online.

Choose peer-to-peer for occasional groups where the host is usually present. Choose a dedicated server when availability independent of one player matters and someone can administer the server and its backups.

Install the documented Windows build
Keen Games’ Steam installation guide places the dedicated server under Steam Library > Tools. Launch the server executable once; it creates enshrouded_server.json, which you then configure for the server. The documented guide describes Windows support in that context. Because platform support can change, verify the current official guide before deploying on another operating system.

After configuration, confirm that the server process stays running, that its query port is reachable through the intended network path, and that the server’s saves and logs are being written. Keep backups outside the live server directory.

Keen Games’ recommended server specifications are examples, not guarantees. They assume an SSD with at least 30 GB free and approximately 2 Mbit/s of upload capacity per active player; download capacity should roughly match upload.

For six active players, the stated rule implies about 12 Mbit/s upload; for 16 active players, about 32 Mbit/s. Those are capacity calculations from the 2 Mbit/s-per-player recommendation, not performance guarantees. Leave headroom for other traffic and remember that CPU load, simulation activity, storage latency, and the provider’s network can change results.
If the dedicated server is not listed
Start with the network sequence: verify the query port, Steam’s additional required ports, cache, DNS, IPv4 path, and packet loss. Then check that the server process is actually running and that the configured port matches the forwarded port. If friends can connect directly but discovery fails, treat that as a discovery or port-publication problem rather than proof that the server hardware is too slow.
Keen Games’ FAQ names GPortal as a dedicated-server rental partner and says other providers may also be used. Provider regions, player capacity, update handling, backups, support, and prices change; verify those details on the provider’s current page before choosing one.

What to send to support when nothing works
Escalate after you have updated the relevant software, compared the requirements, reproduced the symptom, and completed the applicable network checks. Send a compact evidence package:
- Game and server versions, Windows version, and hardware summary.
- A numbered reproduction sequence with the exact trigger and frequency.
- Whether the issue occurs solo, online, or only for one host or world.
- DxDiag and the client log plus backup folder for client crashes.
- The affected save files, preserving a separate backup.
- Server logs and saves for dedicated-server problems.
- For connection cases, the query port, whether IPv4 is available, whether wired Ethernet changed packet loss, and which players could or could not connect.
Do not remove the details that distinguish a rendering problem from lag or a missing session from a running server. Those distinctions determine which team and which evidence can help.
Keep expectations realistic
Outcomes vary with hardware, drivers, game version, connection quality, server configuration, active-player count, and the path between players. The official material supports concrete checks for requirements, updates, network discovery, IPv4, Wi-Fi packet loss, and server capacity. It does not establish a universal crash fix, a magic FPS preset, or a guaranteed network repair. Use a controlled test, keep the evidence, and change one variable at a time.
