If Dragon’s Dogma 2 crashes, stutters, or runs slowly on your PC, start by checking your hardware against the current Steam requirements, then work through Windows and graphics-driver updates, Steam file verification, background apps, GPU selection, and the other targeted checks below. Change one thing at a time and retest where practical; these are troubleshooting steps, not guaranteed fixes. Steam also cautions that frame rate can drop when processing load is high.
Check whether your PC meets the current requirements
Compare your Windows version, processor, memory, and graphics card with the requirements in the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Steam listing. The figures below are the store’s stated requirements and performance targets, accessed October 9, 2026—not a promise of identical performance in every area or PC configuration.

The Steam listing says frame rate may drop when processing load is high, and lists an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 6800 to support ray tracing. Those are store specifications and targets, not independent benchmark results.

If your PC is below the minimum, Capcom warns that the game may run poorly or may not run. If it meets the minimum but falls short of the recommended requirements, reduce graphics settings and test again. Capcom also cautions that mobile GPUs can perform much worse than desktop GPUs with nominally similar specifications. Check the live Steam listing for current requirements, since they can change.

Try the quickest system and Steam checks first
1. Install Windows and graphics-driver updates
Capcom recommends installing current Windows updates and graphics drivers. Get the graphics driver from your GPU manufacturer, follow its installation instructions, and restart Windows afterward. If the problem remains, Capcom says a clean driver installation may be worth trying; a third-party cleanup utility is optional, not a required Capcom step.
2. Verify the game files in Steam
Use Steam’s built-in file verification to check the installed game files. Capcom includes verification of the game cache in its troubleshooting guidance. If Steam reports a problem and replaces files, launch the game again and see whether the original symptom persists.

3. Close background apps and overlays
Temporarily close resource-intensive applications, recording software, and performance overlays, then retest. Capcom warns that these can compromise performance and stability. If closing one changes the symptom, re-enable applications individually to identify a possible conflict.

Fix low FPS and stuttering by checking the active GPU and power settings
Make sure the game uses the intended GPU
On a PC with integrated and discrete graphics, check that Windows is assigning the game to the discrete GPU. Capcom says an integrated GPU can override the discrete one. In Windows, open Settings > System > Display > Graphics, select or add the game, choose Options, set it to High performance, and save. Labels can vary by Windows version. Capcom notes that some high-end integrated and laptop discrete GPUs may work but are not tested or officially supported.

Review graphics-driver and Windows power settings
Check that the graphics driver is not applying settings that undermine performance, and review your computer’s power settings. Capcom recommends checking both and resetting graphics-driver settings if problems persist. Avoid changing several driver options at once, so you can tell whether a change helped.
Lower graphics settings when needed
If your PC is below the recommended specification or the frame rate falls during demanding scenes, lower graphics settings and retest. Close and restart the game after graphics-setting changes if needed. The store’s stated frame-rate targets use an upscaler and the Prioritize Performance setting; they should not be read as a guarantee for every scene.

Try targeted checks for crashes, launch failures, or visual issues
Delete the named game shader cache files only if present
Capcom says a damaged shader cache can cause graphical problems. In the game’s installation folder, locate the folder containing the game executable and delete only shader.cache or shader.cache2 if either file is present. Do not delete unrelated files. For driver-generated shader caches, follow the GPU manufacturer’s instructions.
Check security software and administrator access
Capcom says security software can falsely block the game executable, which may cause launch problems or frame drops. Consult your security software’s instructions to add the game folder or relevant files to its exclusions, if appropriate. Capcom also suggests trying Steam and the game with administrator privileges. Use these changes cautiously and only from software and files you trust.

Review compatibility, display, DirectX, ventilation, and codecs
Capcom’s troubleshooting list also calls out compatibility settings, display configuration, DirectX, ventilation, and codecs. Check that the display and connection are configured as intended, confirm the system is not overheating because of blocked airflow, and review relevant Windows and game compatibility settings. If changing graphics options does not take effect, close and restart the game before judging the result.

For low FPS or stuttering
- Compare your hardware with the current Steam requirements.
- Lower graphics settings if your PC is below the recommended requirements, and retest.
- Close background apps, recording software, and overlays temporarily.
- Confirm that Windows is using the intended GPU, then review power and graphics-driver settings.
- If visual problems remain, check for the named game shader-cache files and use Capcom’s other relevant display and system checks.
For crashes or launch failures
- Install Windows and graphics-driver updates, then restart the PC.
- Verify the game files in Steam.
- Check whether security software is blocking the executable and review administrator access.
- Review compatibility and DirectX checks from Capcom’s troubleshooting list.
- If the crash persists, record the exact error and gather the system details listed below before contacting support.
This order helps separate common checks, but none of these symptoms alone identifies a definitive cause on a particular PC.
Contact Capcom with useful diagnostic details
If the checks do not resolve the problem, use the Dragon’s Dogma 2 support category. Include your PC specifications, Windows version, graphics-driver version, the exact symptom or error text, and the steps you have already tried. Capcom asks players with remaining visual or audio issues, or crashes, to provide detailed information.
For Steam installations, Capcom’s Steam FAQ identifies the executable as DD2.exe and gives this default installation folder: C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonDragons Dogma 2. If you installed Steam or the game in a different library location, look there instead.
