If Death Dealer will not connect, begin with Steam’s service status, then test another Steam game or server before changing anything specific to the game. A wired-versus-Wi‑Fi test, firewall review and temporary shutdown of interfering background software can isolate most connection paths. The available official material does not document a Death Dealer-specific port list, lobby protocol or confirmed bug, so avoid guessing at ports or treating an unverified workaround as an official fix.
What is known about Death Dealer’s multiplayer
Steam lists Death Dealer as a multiplayer horror party game for up to six players and states that broadband internet is required. The listing represented the game as coming soon or not yet generally available at the time of the source snapshot, with an option to request playtest access. Release, playtest and access information can change, so check the current Steam listing before assuming that a lobby should be available to everyone.
The official listing does not publish a port list, networking architecture, lobby protocol, cross-play support or a Death Dealer-specific connection procedure. That means a guide should not tell you to forward a particular port, change a hidden game setting or install an unofficial patch unless the developer confirms it. The reliable first steps are Steam’s own platform-wide diagnostics, followed by a report through the game’s official community channel.
Start with a five-minute diagnosis
Do these checks in order. Each one tells you whether the failure is broad (Steam or your network), limited to one server or lobby, or specific to the game.

- Check Steam Server Status. If Steam services or community pages are timing out, wait for the service to recover. Reinstalling the game or changing router settings will not repair a platform outage.
- Check Steam Friends. Open the Friends list and confirm that it loads, shows you online and lets you message or invite a friend. A broken Friends connection points to Steam connectivity rather than a single Death Dealer lobby.
- Try another Steam game or server. Use a title you know normally connects. If several other games fail, investigate Steam or your network. If they work and only one Death Dealer lobby fails, the problem may be that lobby or the game service.
- Repeat the attempt on a different connection path. If you normally use Wi‑Fi, test Ethernet directly from the computer to the router, or briefly use another trusted network. A change in result identifies the local wireless, powerline or router path as a likely contributor.
- Record the exact symptom. Note whether the game never reaches the lobby, shows a failure message, disconnects after joining, or only fails when a particular friend hosts. Include the time and whether other Steam services worked.
Do not skip straight to port forwarding. Steam notes that universities, proxies and some internet providers can block or shape traffic, but the available Death Dealer material does not identify the ports the game uses.
Step 1: rule out a Steam-wide outage
Use Steam’s service status first
Steam Support’s general guidance is to check Steam Server Status before troubleshooting the local installation. Look for symptoms outside Death Dealer: the Store or Community pages failing to load, sign-in errors, Friends appearing offline or several unrelated games refusing to reach servers. If those services are impaired, leave your installation unchanged and retry after Steam reports recovery.
A status page is not proof that every game server is healthy. It is a way to avoid spending time on local changes while the platform itself is unavailable. If Steam is operating normally, continue with the comparison tests below.

Check the Steam client and Friends network
Sign out of Steam, close the client completely and launch it again. Confirm that the client can load the Store and Community pages and that Friends connectivity returns. This restart only refreshes the client session; it does not establish that Death Dealer’s own service is available. If Friends remains offline while Steam’s public pages work, capture that fact for support rather than repeatedly joining the same lobby.
Step 2: determine whether one server or lobby is failing
Compare with another game
Steam’s server-verification guidance recommends trying other game servers. Connect to a multiplayer session in another Steam title, preferably one that uses a different server or host. There are three useful outcomes:
- Other games also fail: treat the issue as Steam-client, ISP, router, firewall or network-restriction related until proven otherwise.
- Other games work, but every Death Dealer attempt fails: the game may be unavailable to your account or region, its service may be down, or its build may have a title-specific defect. The available official sources do not confirm which.
- Other games work and only one Death Dealer lobby fails: the particular lobby, host session or service endpoint may be the source. Have the host close and recreate the lobby, then test a second host; this is a diagnostic comparison, not a developer-confirmed workaround.
Do not describe a lobby as a “server” with certainty: the official listing does not explain whether Death Dealer uses dedicated servers, peer hosting or a hybrid system.

Compare hosts and players
If one friend can join while another cannot, ask the affected player to test a different host and ask the original host to join someone else’s lobby. This pattern helps separate an account or local-network problem from a single host session. Keep the test small—one host and one additional player—so each result is easy to interpret.

Restart the network equipment correctly
- Exit Death Dealer and Steam.
- Unplug the modem and router from power. If your internet provider uses a combined gateway, unplug that single unit.
- Wait at least 30 seconds, reconnect the modem or gateway, and wait until its normal internet indicators return.
- Reconnect the router if it is separate, wait for Wi‑Fi, then start Steam and retest.
This clears a temporary router state; it does not improve a line that is consistently congested or blocked. Do not press a factory-reset button unless you have the provider settings and administrator credentials needed to rebuild the network.
Use Ethernet as a diagnostic
Steam recommends a direct wired test when Wi‑Fi or powerline networking may be intermittent. Connect the computer directly to the router with an Ethernet cable, then repeat the same lobby attempt. A Cat 6 cable is suitable for this diagnostic, but it is optional and is not a guaranteed Death Dealer fix.

- Wired works, Wi‑Fi fails: investigate wireless interference, distance, channel congestion, mesh-node placement or powerline adapters. Keep the wired result as evidence.
- Both wired and Wi‑Fi fail: continue with Steam, firewall and network-restriction checks; buying a new router is not justified by this result alone.
- Both work intermittently: note the times and whether other household traffic is active. Intermittence is useful information for your ISP or the game’s support community.
Step 4: review firewall and security software
Check the operating-system firewall rule
A recent Steam installation, client update or security-suite update can leave Steam blocked even when it worked previously. Open your operating system’s firewall or allowed-app settings and verify that Steam is allowed on the network profiles you actually use. If Death Dealer has its own executable entry, verify that entry as well; do not create broad inbound rules for unknown programs.
After changing an allow rule, restart Steam and test once. If the problem began immediately after installing security software, use that product’s documented “pause protection” or gaming-mode test briefly, then restore protection. A failed test does not prove the security product is innocent if it was not paused completely, and leaving protection disabled is not a solution.

Temporarily remove background interference
Steam advises disabling or reconfiguring programs that may interfere with its network traffic. For one controlled test, close overlays, traffic filters, VPN or proxy clients, packet-capture tools, aggressive antivirus web shields and bandwidth managers. Record what you closed and restore each program afterward. If only one application changes the result, update or configure that application rather than permanently disabling security.

Step 5: check restricted networks and proxies
University, workplace and hotel networks commonly apply outbound filtering or require a proxy. Steam notes that such networks can block required ports; some internet providers can also shape or block traffic. Ask the network administrator whether Steam multiplayer traffic is restricted, or test from a permitted home connection. Do not request a port exception by guessing a Death Dealer port range—the game’s official materials found here do not publish one.
If you use a proxy, verify the Steam client’s proxy setting and the operating system’s network proxy configuration. A proxy that works for web pages can still prevent game traffic. Turn off the proxy only for a controlled test and follow your organization’s policy; do not bypass workplace or campus controls without authorization.

Do not promise yourself or others a response time. The community page supplies the Discord as a contact route, not a guaranteed support service-level agreement.
Availability and access can explain a perfect connection test
The Steam listing used for this guidance described Death Dealer as coming soon or not yet available and offered playtest access requests. If your network tests pass but the game does not present a usable multiplayer option, check the current listing, your account’s playtest status and any current developer announcement before changing your router. An unavailable build or restricted test is not repaired by firewall edits.
