Fix DayZ connection problems by matching the error to the right cause. A “Bad Version, server rejected connection” message requires a client/server version and branch check; “connecting failed (0x00010001)” or “connection with host has failed” requires network and server diagnostics; a BattlEye kick follows an anti-cheat support path; and a full queue is not the same as a failed connection.
The steps below are written for the PC Steam version. DayZ menu labels and troubleshooting paths for Xbox, PlayStation, and Microsoft Store editions may differ, so do not apply the Steam instructions to those clients without checking their platform-specific support.
Identify the problem before changing anything
Record the exact text shown by DayZ, not a paraphrase. The wording determines which checks are relevant and prevents you from treating a queue as a network failure or a ban as a corrupted installation.

Also note whether the fault occurs on one server or several, whether the server is official or community-run, your platform, and the approximate attempt time. Those details are needed for meaningful escalation.

Fix “Bad Version, server rejected connection”
DayZ’s troubleshooting FAQ states: “If you are prevented from joining a server with this message, you have the wrong version of the game installed.” Treat that as a version mismatch first, not as a router, VPN, or graphics problem.
Compare both displayed versions
- Open DayZ and read the game version on the main menu.
- Open the server browser and inspect the version reported for the server you are trying to join.
- If the numbers differ, do not attempt to bypass the warning with unofficial patches or arbitrary launch parameters.
Restart Steam when an update may have just been released. Steam can have a download pending or a client that has not refreshed its branch state. After restarting, allow any DayZ update to finish and check the two version values again.

The client and server must use compatible branches. DayZ’s FAQ identifies Stable, Experimental, and Stress Test as separate possibilities and notes that official servers identify their branch in the server name. A Stable client cannot be expected to join an Experimental or Stress Test server simply because both are labeled DayZ.
- Read the branch label in the server name or browser details.
- Confirm that the installed Steam branch matches the server you selected.
- Return to the branch you normally use after testing; keeping the wrong branch installed can create another version rejection on your usual servers.
When a version check does not solve it
If the displayed versions match but the rejection continues, capture a screenshot of both values, the complete server name, and the time of the attempt. Then proceed with Steam file verification and removal of custom launch options. Do not claim that a network reset fixes a message whose stated cause is version incompatibility.
Run the official PC client checks in a safe order
The DayZ FAQ recommends these general Steam-side measures for recurring problems attributed to faulty downloads or corrupt or modified game data. Current Steam wording can differ from the FAQ’s 2018 labels.
Verify the installed files
- Exit DayZ.
- In Steam, open your Library and locate DayZ.
- Open the game’s Properties and find the installed-files or local-files section.
- Run Steam’s file-integrity verification. The older FAQ calls this “Verify Integrity of Game Files”; Steam may display a revised label.
- Let the process complete before launching DayZ again.
Verification replaces or reacquires files Steam considers missing or altered. It does not repair an outage on the selected server, change a server’s branch, or remove a legitimate BattlEye or VAC ban.

Clear custom launch parameters
- Open DayZ’s Steam Properties.
- Find the Launch Options field.
- Remove custom parameters temporarily, leaving the field empty.
- Start the game normally and test the same server.
This is a general troubleshooting step for a PC client that has accumulated custom settings. It is not evidence that launch options explain every connection error, so do not add random parameters as a cure.
Reinstall only after the simpler checks
The FAQ lists reinstallation as a common later solution. Use it only after checking the version, branch, files, and launch options. Reinstallation takes time and the guidance does not claim that it fixes server-side outages, capacity queues, or bans. Keep your diagnostic notes and screenshots; deleting the client does not remove the need to provide them when escalating.
Diagnose 0x00010001 and other connection errors
DayZ Community Support’s PC official-server error-code post, dated May 23, 2024, asks for different information depending on the code. The post is a reporting and diagnostic guide, not a guaranteed client-side fix, and it directs players to report issues on the Feedback Tracker.
For 0x00010001 and related connection errors
For “connecting failed (0x00010001)” and other connection-related problems, record:
- Your public IP address for the private support report or form that requests it.
- The exact name of the problematic server.
- The approximate time you attempted to connect.
- A traceroute to that server, when requested by support.
Do not publish a public IP in an open forum. If the same account joins other servers successfully, state that distinction; it helps separate a single-server problem from a broader client or network fault.

- DxDiag information from the PC.
- Whether the connection is cable, Wi-Fi, or another type.
- Connection-speed information.
- Your region.
- The affected server name.
- The date and time of the attempt.
Gather the information as close as possible to a failed attempt. A speed result from a different network or a different day is less useful than a contemporaneous result.
Separate client checks from server checks
If one official server fails while others work, retain the server name and time and report the pattern instead of repeatedly reinstalling DayZ. If every server fails, complete the Steam checks, test the connection type you normally use, and include the broader scope in your report. The error-code post does not promise that changing a router, buying networking hardware, or using a VPN will resolve these codes.
Understand BattlEye kicks and bans
BattlEye is DayZ’s anti-cheat software. A player who can start the game but is repeatedly kicked should preserve the exact kick message and identify whether it says the player was removed, lost connection, or was banned.
A kick is not automatically a ban
The DayZ feedback-report guidance notes that a kick can result from a server crash, a lost connection, or removal by BattlEye. A transient kick therefore needs different handling from a ban notice. Record whether you can join another server and whether the same message returns.
Use the correct support owner
- For a BattlEye kick or BattlEye ban, contact BattlEye through its support route. DayZ developers do not manage BattlEye bans and cannot revoke them.
- For a VAC ban, use Steam support. DayZ developers likewise cannot remove a VAC ban.
- For a server-specific removal without a BattlEye or VAC ban message, report the server and the complete error through the DayZ feedback process.
Changing servers or reinstalling the game does not reverse a legitimate BattlEye or VAC ban. Do not send account identifiers or other sensitive information in a public post.
Report a persistent kick correctly
The DayZ feedback-report guide asks for enough context to reproduce or classify a continuing kick. Prepare the following before opening a report:

- Copy the complete error message, or take a screenshot that includes it.
- Write down the server name or IP address.
- Record the approximate date and time of the failed attempt.
- Include your Steam64ID only in the private report field requested by the guide, not in a public forum post.
- Attach the latest DayZ RPT file. This log contains the client-side session information support may need.
- State whether the kick occurs on one server, all official servers, or community servers as well.
The RPT file and exact timestamp are more useful than a description such as “it keeps kicking me.” If the problem is an error code covered by the PC support checklist, add the requested network type, region, speed information, traceroute, or DxDiag rather than substituting unrelated screenshots.
Fixing a full or apparently stuck queue
A queue means the selected server is limiting simultaneous players. It is different from “connection with host has failed” and from a BattlEye kick. The available official material does not establish a current universal queue fix, a live wait-time estimate, or a guaranteed number of minutes after which a queue should advance.
Confirm that it is actually a queue
- Read the on-screen status carefully: a position or “server full” notice indicates capacity handling, while an error code indicates a connection failure.
- Watch whether the queue position changes over time without repeatedly closing the game.
- Note the server name, queue position if displayed, and the time you joined.
Do not promise that repeatedly reconnecting, changing servers, waiting a fixed period, buying network equipment, or installing a VPN will make a queue move. Those actions can reset your place or change the symptom without addressing server capacity.
When a queue appears frozen
Capture the queue screen and its timestamp. Test a different server only as a diagnostic comparison, not as proof that the original server is healthy. If other servers accept connections while one queue never advances, report that server-specific pattern. If all servers fail or the client returns an error code, switch to the connection-error branch above.
An older DayZ update note mentioned queue-screen interface issues, but that historical note does not establish a current queue defect or a current fix. Treat a stuck display as an observation to report, not as evidence of a known universal bug.

Xbox, PlayStation, and Microsoft Store
Do not assume that Steam’s Properties menu, branch selector, file-verification command, or RPT location exists on these platforms. Start with the exact console or Microsoft Store error text and use the platform’s own update and support workflow. The evidence summarized here does not provide equivalent menu paths for those clients.

The PC error-code checklist specifically discusses official-server reports. A community server may have its own host configuration, restart schedule, mods, whitelist, or moderation policy. Record which type you used and include the complete server name. A kick from a community administrator is not automatically a BattlEye or VAC action.
Build a useful support report
Support can act on a reproducible report; “DayZ is broken” is too broad. Include:
- Exact displayed error text or an uncropped screenshot.
- Platform and client edition.
- Official or community server status.
- Full server name or IP as requested.
- Approximate attempt date and time, including time zone when possible.
- Whether the issue repeats on other servers.
- Game version and branch shown in the client and browser.
- For the relevant PC error code, the requested network type, region, speed result, traceroute, or DxDiag.
- For persistent kicks, the latest RPT file and Steam64ID supplied privately.
Redact public IP addresses, account identifiers, and other personal data from open forum posts. Use private fields when the support guide asks for sensitive values.
What not to do
- Do not install unofficial patches to solve a version rejection.
- Do not change arbitrary network settings when the client and server versions differ.
- Do not treat every kick as a ban or every full server as a connection failure.
- Do not publish a Steam64ID or public IP in a public thread.
- Do not present a historical forum notice as live server status.
- Do not claim a percentage success rate, average queue time, or guaranteed fix; the available support material provides none.
How current the official guidance is
The general troubleshooting FAQ and feedback-report guide date from June 20, 2018 and 2018 respectively, so Steam labels and tracker workflows may have changed. The PC error-code post is dated May 23, 2024 and is the more recent source for 0x00010001, 0x00040031, and related reporting details. A forum index also surfaced a June 15, 2026 maintenance notice about server capacity; that historical notice is not a live availability report for today.
Use the current text shown by your client, preserve timestamps, and follow the support form’s present fields when they differ from older wording. The durable part of the process is the diagnosis: match the exact symptom to version, client, network, anti-cheat, or capacity evidence before selecting a remedy.
