If Crunchyroll is missing from your PS5, first determine whether the app cannot be found, has disappeared from your installed library, or opens and remains stuck loading. Those symptoms point to different fixes. Check another online app and run the PS5 connection test, then close and reopen Crunchyroll, restart the console, install available app and system updates, perform a complete power-off, and reinstall Crunchyroll if necessary. Use Safe Mode cache/database tools only after those lower-risk steps, and do not reset the PS5 or reinstall its system software for a single streaming-app problem.
The procedure below separates app, network, account-region, and console issues so you can stop as soon as the relevant fix works.
Identify exactly what “not appearing” or “not loading” means
Before changing anything, match your symptom to one of these cases:

There is no current, region-by-region PS5 store-availability list in the official instructions used here. If the app is genuinely absent, the result shown for your account in the on-console store is more reliable than assuming that an app discussed in a support article is available everywhere.

Check whether other PS5 apps work
Open another internet-connected app on the same console. If several apps fail, repeatedly deleting and reinstalling Crunchyroll will not repair the underlying connection.
- From the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Choose Network, then Connection Status.
- Select Test Internet Connection.
- Try another online app after the test completes.
PlayStation’s troubleshooting guidance recommends testing the connection as an early step for app and launch problems: How to troubleshoot issues when starting a game. If the test fails or several apps cannot connect, restart your modem or router according to its instructions and investigate the home network before focusing on Crunchyroll. A wired Ethernet connection can be used as an optional diagnostic when Wi-Fi instability is suspected. It may show that wireless connectivity is the problem, but it cannot correct a Crunchyroll service outage, an account fault, a regional restriction, or a damaged app.
Close Crunchyroll and restart the PS5
Close and reopen the app
Exit Crunchyroll completely rather than leaving it suspended. Return to the home screen, highlight the Crunchyroll tile, press the controller’s Options button, and choose the command that closes the game or app. Open Crunchyroll again and wait for the loading screen to finish. This clears a temporary process fault without changing your account or console data.
Restart from the power menu
Use the PS5 power menu to choose Restart PS5. Do not use Rest Mode for this test: Rest Mode keeps the console in a low-power state and does not provide the same clean restart as a full shutdown. After the console starts, launch Crunchyroll before opening other demanding apps.

Install app and PS5 system updates
Update Crunchyroll
On the PS5 home screen, highlight Crunchyroll, press Options, and select Check for Update when that command is available. Let the download and installation finish before opening the app. If the app is missing entirely, you cannot update it; use the PlayStation Store search and installation step instead.
Update PS5 system software
- Open Settings.
- Go to System.
- Choose System Software.
- Select System Software Update and Settings.
- Install any available update and restart when prompted.
Sony’s update instructions are available at How to update system software on a PS5 console. PlayStation also documents checking application versions and system updates at How to check for updates on PS5 consoles and PS4 consoles. If an update repeatedly fails, record the displayed error rather than attempting a system reset.

A normal restart may leave a temporary power or cache state intact. Crunchyroll’s PlayStation-specific instructions call for a full shutdown and power disconnect for PS4 and PS5 systems. Follow the order exactly:
- Hold the controller’s PlayStation button.
- Choose Turn Off PS5 (shown as the console power-off command).
- Wait until the front power indicator stops blinking and the console is fully off.
- Unplug the PS5 power cable.
- Wait briefly with the cable disconnected.
- Reconnect the cable and turn on the PS5.
- Open Crunchyroll and test playback.
This is different from Rest Mode and from simply selecting Restart. The sequence is intended to clear a temporary console state; it does not erase installed games, saved data, or your Crunchyroll account.

Although that article’s title concerns the Watchlist, its PlayStation section explicitly covers PS4 and PS5 power cycling and reinstalling the app.

Reinstall Crunchyroll
Reinstalling is the main corrective step when only Crunchyroll fails after a restart and updates. It replaces the local app files while leaving the PS5 system software intact.
- Highlight Crunchyroll on the home screen or in the installed-app library.
- Press Options and choose Delete.
- Confirm the deletion. This removes the app from the console, not your Crunchyroll subscription or account.
- Open the official PlayStation Store on the PS5.
- Search for Crunchyroll, select the official app listing shown for your account, and choose Download or Add to Library.
- Wait for installation to complete, launch the app, and sign in.
If the store does not show Crunchyroll, check the account’s country or region and parental or family restrictions before concluding that the console is malfunctioning. Store listings can differ by region, and the available evidence here does not establish a universal PS5 availability list.
Crunchyroll’s loading guidance recommends reinstalling from the official app store and trying another device to isolate a device-specific problem. If Crunchyroll works on a phone, computer, or another supported device on the same network while it fails on the PS5, the console app installation or PS5 environment becomes more likely than a general account or service failure.
Handle sign-in and regional-access symptoms separately
When the app opens but you cannot sign in
Do not treat a sign-in error as proof that the app is not loading. First confirm that another PS5 app can reach the internet, then retry the sign-in after the reinstall. If the app offers QR-code sign-in, follow Crunchyroll’s official instructions at QR code sign-in. Record the exact error text and whether it appears before or after the QR code or credential screen.
When the app or catalog is unavailable in your region
Streaming rights and store distribution can vary by country. If Crunchyroll is not listed for your PS5 account, verify the account region and search the official store while signed into that account. Do not change the account country casually: a PlayStation account’s region is not a general troubleshooting toggle, and changing it can create separate account and payment complications. A regional catalog limitation also cannot be fixed by restarting, changing DNS, or reinstalling the app.

When only Crunchyroll fails
If other apps connect, the PS5 test succeeds, and a fresh Crunchyroll installation still hangs, the remaining possibilities include a temporary Crunchyroll service problem, an account-specific issue, regional access, or an app defect affecting your console. Wait and retry later if the failure is intermittent, and contact Crunchyroll support with the details listed in the escalation section below.
Use Safe Mode only after ordinary fixes
PlayStation’s app and launch guidance includes Safe Mode options for persistent app-update or system-cache problems. Safe Mode is not the next step after one failed launch; use it after you have tested the connection, restarted, updated, power-cycled, and reinstalled Crunchyroll.
Clear Cache and Rebuild Database
Follow Sony’s current Safe Mode instructions to enter Safe Mode, then choose the intended cache or database option carefully. Clear Cache can remove temporary system data. Rebuild Database reorganizes the console’s content index and may take time, especially on a console with substantial storage use. Neither option is a substitute for checking whether the problem affects multiple apps.

Do not use Restore Licenses as a routine Crunchyroll fix
Restoring licenses primarily addresses access to purchased or downloaded PlayStation Store content. It is relevant when purchased content is missing or inaccessible, not as an established remedy for a streaming-app loading screen. Why resetting or reinstalling PS5 system software is a last resort
Reset PS5 and Reinstall System Software are fundamentally different from deleting and reinstalling one app. Sony states that reinstalling PS5 system software deletes all console data. That can include installed games, saved data that is not backed up, user accounts on the console, settings, and other local content. It is disproportionate for a single Crunchyroll problem.
Do not select either destructive option merely because Crunchyroll remains stuck. Consider system recovery only when broader console failures justify it, you have exhausted non-destructive troubleshooting, and you have verified backups and Sony’s current recovery instructions. Choose the next action by symptom scope

What to record before contacting support
Support can separate a console fault from a network, account, region, or service issue more quickly when your report is specific. Record:
- Whether the Crunchyroll tile is absent, the app is absent from the library, or the app opens and hangs.
- The exact screen, spinner, error code, or message, including capitalization and numbers.
- Whether another internet-connected PS5 app works.
- The result of Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection.
- Your PS5 system-software version and the Crunchyroll app version, if the app opens far enough to show them.
- The country or region of the PlayStation account and the physical location where the console is being used.
- Which steps you completed, including the full unplugged power cycle and reinstall.
- Whether Crunchyroll works on another supported device using the same account and network.
Contact Crunchyroll when the PS5 connection works, other apps work, and Crunchyroll alone continues to fail after reinstalling, or when sign-in, catalog, or regional access is the apparent problem. Contact PlayStation when the store, PS5 system software, multiple apps, Safe Mode, or the console itself is failing. Include the information above rather than simply reporting that “Crunchyroll is broken.”
Expected outcomes after each stage
- After the connection test: you should know whether the PS5 can reach the internet and whether the issue is broader than Crunchyroll.
- After closing and restarting: a temporary suspended-process fault should be gone, with no account or data changes.
- After updates: the app and PS5 should be running the latest versions offered to that console and region.
- After the full power cycle: the console has been completely powered down and disconnected, unlike Rest Mode.
- After reinstalling: the local Crunchyroll files are fresh; subscriptions and account data remain server-side.
- After Safe Mode maintenance: temporary system data or the content index may be repaired, but a service outage or regional restriction will remain unaffected.
If none of these stages changes the symptom, the evidence points away from a simple stuck app process. Use the recorded details to escalate rather than repeating the same reinstall indefinitely.
