If Caravan Village: Farming Life freezes, stutters, or moves the camera without your input, update the game before changing hardware. Wendy’s June 25, 2026 hotfix fixed a menu-opening freeze, moved a stutter-causing background process, and removed phantom stick input. The September 30, 2026 update added Xbox and DualSense support throughout gameplay and management screens, plus custom bindings and controller-specific settings. The steps below help you confirm those fixes are actually active, isolate a faulty input device, and determine what remains unresolved.

Start with the shortest reliable fix

Use this order rather than changing several variables at once:

  1. Install the newest available update. The June 25 hotfix targeted the menu freeze, object-spawn stutter, and uncontrolled camera movement. The September 30 update expanded controller support and navigation.
  2. Restart the game after updating. Load the same save and repeat the action that originally failed, such as opening the menu or entering a busy area.
  3. Separate performance symptoms from input symptoms. A frame-time hitch during menu opening is a different problem from a camera that rotates while every stick is untouched.
  4. Disconnect every extra input device. Remove racing wheels, joysticks, and additional controllers. Test with one device connected, then add devices back individually.
  5. Open the current controller settings. Confirm that the intended device is identified, check its button prompts, review custom bindings, and adjust the independent controller camera-sensitivity setting if needed.

If the problem disappears after one device is removed, the isolation result is more useful than repeatedly reinstalling the game. If the same failure remains on the newest build with one supported controller, record the exact build and reproduction steps for the developer.

What the 2026 updates actually fixed

Update Documented change Symptoms it addresses What it does not establish
June 25, 2026 hotfix Fixed a freeze when opening the menu; changed an object-spawn background process so it runs on scene changes instead of every object spawn; stopped phantom stick input. Menu lockups, general stutter associated with the old process, and uncontrolled camera movement with a controller, racing wheel, or joystick connected. No crash-rate, frame-rate, frame-time, or other numerical performance result was published.
September 30, 2026 update Added Xbox and DualSense controller support across gameplay, tablet apps, staff management, building, painting, and menus. Added custom keybindings, device-specific prompts, independent controller camera sensitivity, and controller navigation throughout tablet and management screens. Missing or incomplete controller navigation, incorrect prompts, duplicated bindings, and difficulty using management interfaces with a pad. The notes do not provide a benchmark, a universal guarantee for every controller model, or a specific Steam Deck performance measurement.

The June 25 hotfix

Wendy’s June 25, 2026 announcement describes the freeze as a process running on every object spawn. In the developer’s words: “Fixed a freeze when opening the menu. A background process was firing on every object spawn, which could lock up the game and also caused general stutter. It’s now tied to scene changes only — a big stability and performance win.”

The same announcement addresses a separate input path: “Fixed the ‘screen going crazy’ / uncontrolled camera movement for players with a controller, racing wheel, or joystick plugged in. Phantom stick input is no longer read.” That wording matters because an apparently broken camera can be caused by a connected peripheral rather than by rendering performance.

The September 30 controller update

The later update says, “Controller support now covers gameplay, tablet apps, staff management, building, painting, and menus.” It also adds the settings needed to diagnose a bad mapping: custom keybindings, prompts that match the detected device, independent controller camera sensitivity, and navigation across tablet and management screens. These additions are the current controller layer to use when testing the game; do not rely on an older pre-update mapping or on keyboard prompts that do not match your pad.

The game stops responding as the menu opens. June 25 menu-freeze fix. Confirm the hotfix or a later build is installed, restart, and open the same menu again.
Motion hitches during object-heavy activity or around a scene transition. Background-process change in the June 25 hotfix. Repeat the same route after updating and note whether the hitch occurs during a menu, object spawn, or scene change.
The camera turns or the display moves with no stick command. Phantom-input branch. Unplug wheels, joysticks, and extra controllers; test one supported pad.
Buttons work in play but not in a tablet or staff screen. September 30 navigation and management support. Open the current controller settings and test tablet, staff-management, building, and menu navigation separately.
An Xbox or DualSense pad is not recognized as expected. Current controller layer and device prompts. Connect only that pad, check the device-specific prompts, and review bindings before trying another device.

Step 1: Confirm that the patched build is running

  1. Close the game completely rather than leaving it suspended.
  2. Use the launcher or console interface where you normally install game updates and wait for the update check to finish.
  3. Install the newest available Caravan Village: Farming Life update. A build older than June 25, 2026 predates the documented freeze and phantom-input fixes; a build older than September 30, 2026 predates the expanded Xbox and DualSense support.
  4. Launch the game, load the affected save, and perform one repeatable action. For a freeze, open the same menu. For stutter, revisit the same scene. For input, leave the character still and observe the camera before pressing a stick.
  5. Write down the update date or version shown by your platform, the device connected, and the exact action that reproduces the problem. Do not compare results from different builds as if they were the same test.

The patch notes describe qualitative fixes, not a measured frame-rate target. A smoother result after updating is meaningful, but it cannot be converted into a claimed percentage improvement or a guaranteed number of frames per second.

Step 2: Retest freezes and stutter without changing hardware

When opening the menu freezes the game

After confirming the current build, restart and open the menu from the same gameplay state. The June hotfix specifically targeted that transition. If the menu now opens, the old process was the likely cause. If it still locks, note whether the freeze happens every time, only in one save, or after a particular scene change; those distinctions give the developer a reproducible case without implying that the documented fix failed universally.

When the game stutters

Do not treat every hitch as controller drift. First remove input devices only if the screen is also moving without a command; otherwise keep the hardware unchanged and repeat the route that produced the hitch. The June hotfix moved the object-spawn process to scene changes because the earlier behavior could lock the game and cause general stutter. Compare the same scene before and after the update, and record whether the hitch is tied to entering a scene, opening a menu, or spawning many objects.

The available update notes contain no average FPS, frame-time graph, crash percentage, or hardware-specific benchmark. That means a result such as “the stutter is less frequent” is supportable, while “the patch adds 20 FPS” is not. Avoid judging a fix by an invented numerical threshold.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

Step 3: Eliminate phantom controller input

  1. Save or pause at a safe point, then quit the game.
  2. Disconnect racing wheels, flight or driving joysticks, and every controller except the one you intend to test. The June 25 note names those peripherals because their phantom stick signals could drive the camera.
  3. Reconnect only one supported pad and relaunch the game. Keep the character stationary and watch the camera for several seconds before touching either stick.
  4. Open the controller settings. Check that the button prompts match the connected device, inspect custom keybindings for duplicated camera actions, and lower or raise the independent controller camera-sensitivity setting to a comfortable value.
  5. Test movement, camera control, building, painting, tablet apps, staff management, and ordinary menus separately. A pad that works in gameplay but fails in one management screen points to a navigation or binding problem rather than unexplained drift.
  6. Add the other peripherals back one at a time. The device whose reconnection restores the uncontrolled movement is the useful isolation result; leave it disconnected while reporting the issue.

The hotfix says phantom stick input is no longer read, but that does not make a physically drifting stick healthy. Isolation distinguishes a game-level phantom signal from a device that is continuously sending an actual axis value.

Step 4: Use the September controller layer correctly

Check prompts and bindings

Device-specific prompts should identify whether the game is treating the pad as an Xbox controller or a DualSense. If the on-screen labels do not match the symbols on your device, stop changing individual actions and first confirm that only the intended controller is connected. Then use custom keybindings to assign one action to one button or stick direction at a time. A duplicated camera assignment can look like random movement even when the hardware is fine.

Check every supported interface

Controller support is not limited to walking around the map. The September update lists gameplay, tablet apps, staff management, building, painting, and menus. Navigate each of those areas during testing. A successful movement test does not prove that the tablet or staff screen is usable; those screens must be checked independently.

Adjust camera sensitivity independently

The update separates controller camera sensitivity from other controls. Use that setting to address a camera that feels too fast or too slow after the input problem itself has been isolated. Sensitivity changes cannot repair a camera that moves while the stick is untouched, so perform the one-device test before fine-tuning speed.

Step 5: Try a known supported replacement

If the original controller still produces drift after all other devices are disconnected and the bindings are clean, test another officially named type. The September 30 notes explicitly document Xbox and DualSense support. An Xbox Wireless Controller is a practical comparison device because it uses the support category named in the update; a DualSense pad is another documented option.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Make the replacement test controlled:

  • Use only the replacement pad during the first launch.
  • Check that its prompts appear correctly.
  • Repeat the stationary-camera test.
  • Navigate at least one tablet or management screen and one building or painting action.
  • Reconnect the original device only after recording the result.

The notes do not establish that wired connection universally removes stutter or that wireless connection causes it. Connection type, operating system, and regional availability can vary by model and platform, so verify the exact controller and your platform before purchasing one. A replacement test identifies a difference between devices; it is not proof that one connection method fixes every performance problem.

Controller options and what the notes establish

Input option Official game support documented Best diagnostic use Limits of the evidence
Xbox controller Yes, added September 30, 2026 across gameplay, tablet apps, staff management, building, painting, and menus. Primary replacement test when the original pad causes drift or incorrect prompts. The notes do not name every Xbox model or promise identical behavior on every platform.
DualSense controller Yes, added September 30, 2026 across the same listed areas. Second documented comparison device and a way to check whether the issue follows one controller. No model-by-model compatibility list or performance measurement is provided.
Racing wheel or joystick Not presented as a supported control option in the September feature list; the June hotfix specifically mentions these devices in connection with phantom input. Disconnect during isolation testing. The notes do not say that every wheel or joystick is incompatible, only that phantom input from connected devices was addressed.
Wired versus wireless connection Not stated. Keep the connection method constant while comparing two devices. No evidence says either method universally eliminates stutter or crashes.

Is the game broken on Steam Deck?

The June 25 hotfix said full controller and Steam Deck support was planned for the next update. The September 30 update then added Xbox and DualSense support across the game’s listed interfaces, but its notes do not publish a Steam Deck certification, FPS result, or Deck-specific crash rate. It is therefore too broad to declare that every Steam Deck problem is fixed or that the game is broken on all Deck hardware.

On a Steam Deck, apply the same evidence-based sequence:

  1. Install the newest game build available to the Deck.
  2. Use one documented controller type at a time if you are testing an external pad.
  3. Check gameplay, menus, tablet apps, staff management, building, and painting rather than judging support from one screen.
  4. For stutter, repeat the same scene after updating and note whether it occurs during a scene change or object-heavy activity.
  5. For camera movement, disconnect external wheels, joysticks, and additional controllers before testing the Deck’s active input.

If the failure remains, report the Deck model or configuration, game build, connected devices, save or scene, and exact reproduction steps. That information is more actionable than a general statement that the game is “broken.”

What to record when the problem persists

Once the update and one-device test are complete, collect a compact reproduction report:

  • Game update date or version shown by your platform.
  • Platform, including whether the test was performed on Steam Deck.
  • Controller model and whether any wheel, joystick, or second controller was connected.
  • Whether the failure is a menu freeze, scene/object stutter, uncontrolled camera movement, missing prompt, or missing tablet-management navigation.
  • The exact sequence that triggers it, such as opening a menu after loading a particular save or entering a named scene.
  • Whether the issue changes when the extra devices are unplugged or when a documented Xbox or DualSense controller is substituted.

Do not report an invented crash percentage, FPS average, or frame-time gain. The June and September notes provide fixes and feature scope, but no quantitative performance statistics. Keeping your report qualitative and reproducible preserves the distinction between what the updates promise and what your own system does.

Common mistakes that make diagnosis harder

  • Testing an old build: reproducing a freeze before installing the June 25 hotfix does not describe current behavior.
  • Leaving every peripheral connected: a wheel, joystick, and several pads can make phantom-input testing impossible.
  • Changing bindings before isolating devices: a real axis signal and a duplicated mapping can produce similar camera movement.
  • Testing only walking: the September update specifically includes tablet apps, staff management, building, painting, and menus.
  • Assuming sensitivity fixes drift: camera sensitivity changes speed; they do not stop an untouched stick from sending input.
  • Turning a qualitative note into a benchmark: “stability and performance win” is the developer’s description, not a published FPS or crash-rate measurement.
