When Haunted by Daylight fails, first identify whether the problem is a game-client crash, a local network fault, a platform outage, or heavy demand on Behaviour Interactive’s servers. A crash to desktop needs file, driver, DirectX, Windows, or clean-boot checks; rubber-banding and disconnects need network troubleshooting; Error 107 points to a disconnect or reconnection; and Error 130 usually means the servers are overloaded.
Work through the least disruptive checks in that order. Do not reinstall immediately: a service outage, router problem, or launch surge will survive a reinstall and cost you time, bandwidth, and another download.
Classify the failure before changing anything
Write down your platform, the exact error text, and where the failure occurs. “Crashing” can mean a desktop crash at launch, a freeze on the loading screen, or a disconnect during a Trial. Those symptoms have different causes.

Scope is another useful clue. If only one computer or account fails, concentrate on that device and connection. If friends on different networks cannot enter a lobby, or a whole platform reports an outage, local graphics settings are unlikely to help. A problem that appears only in a Trial but not in menus can still be a network-path issue, while a crash that also occurs at the title screen points more strongly to the client or Windows.

Record whether the problem started after a game patch, a Windows update, a driver change, or a router change. This costs nothing and gives support a reproducible timeline. Avoid changing several unrelated settings at once; otherwise you will not know which step helped.
Fix PC crashes and launch failures
Behaviour Interactive’s official PC sequence is deliberately conservative: confirm hardware, connection, drivers, DirectX, Windows, game files, and background processes before reinstalling Dead by Daylight. These checks move from reversible and low-disruption to more time-consuming steps.
1. Confirm minimum hardware and the connection
Check that the computer still meets the game’s current minimum hardware requirements. A system that worked before a major update can become unstable if it is short on memory, storage, or graphics capability. Also confirm that the PC is actually online; a failed login can look like a launch failure when the client is waiting for a service response.

Note whether the failure is limited to one Windows account or occurs for every account on that computer.
2. Update audio and video drivers
Install the current drivers for the graphics adapter and sound hardware from the hardware manufacturer or your computer maker. Reboot after installation. Do not assume that a Windows update automatically installed the newest game-ready driver, and do not run several driver installers at once.
If a crash began immediately after a driver update, record that fact rather than repeatedly installing versions. The relevant troubleshooting path is still the driver and client checklist, not a matchmaking fix.
3. Update DirectX and Windows
Apply pending Windows updates and the supported DirectX components used by the game, then restart. Rebooting matters because a driver or system component can remain unloaded until Windows starts again. Let an update finish completely; interrupting a restart or shutting down during installation can leave the system in a partial state.

Corrupted or incomplete files are a common reason for a crash after a patch. In the platform client, open Dead by Daylight’s library entry, find its file-management or properties area, and choose the option that verifies or repairs installed files. Steam and Epic use different labels, but both provide a file-verification action. Let the process finish and allow it to redownload damaged files before launching.
Verification is less disruptive than a full reinstall because it checks the existing installation and replaces only files the platform identifies as missing or damaged. It does not repair a platform outage, a blocked firewall rule, or an unstable router.

5. Perform a clean boot
A clean boot starts Windows with nonessential third-party services and startup programs disabled. It can reveal a conflict with an overlay, capture utility, security tool, hardware monitor, or other background software. Record which startup items you disable, restart, and test the game. If the crash disappears, re-enable items in small groups until the conflicting program is identified. Restore normal startup afterward if the clean boot makes no difference.
Use the clean boot as a diagnostic, not a permanent way to run the computer. If the game works only with a particular background service disabled, note that service name when contacting support or the software maker.
6. Reinstall only after the reversible checks
Uninstall and reinstall Dead by Daylight when updated drivers, Windows, DirectX, file verification, and a clean boot have not resolved the crash. Use the same platform library that owns the installation, keep enough free storage for the download and patch, and restart before the first launch. Reinstallation can consume substantial time and bandwidth, so it is a higher-cost step than checking status, restarting, or verifying files.
Reinstallation cannot repair an active platform outage or an unstable router, so do not use it as the first response to a lobby or Error 107 problem. If the game still crashes after a clean reinstall, preserve the platform, Windows version, game version, error text, and exact failure stage for support instead of repeating the same download.
Why patch context matters
A September 2024 hotfix fixed several specifically named crash conditions while stating that other PC performance and optimization issues were still under investigation. That distinction matters: a patch can remove one known crash without proving that every crash has been fixed. If the game began failing immediately after an update, note the update date and the exact screen where it fails when you contact support.
Reduce lag, rubber-banding, and matchmaking instability
Lag is a timing problem, not always a graphics problem. Delayed actions, teleporting characters, or a lobby that repeatedly drops can come from Wi‑Fi interference, a saturated connection, DNS resolution, NAT restrictions, firewall rules, or a service path between your platform and the game.
1. Prefer a wired connection for testing
If you are using Wi‑Fi, move the router closer or test with an Ethernet cable. Behaviour Interactive notes that a wired connection is typically more stable than a wireless one. If you buy a cable, confirm that its connector fits both the device and the router and that its length reaches without tension. The guidance does not establish a particular cable brand, speed tier, or guaranteed latency improvement.
A cable is a diagnostic and stability option, not a promise that every server route will improve. If wired and wireless tests behave identically while the platform reports an incident, focus on service status rather than buying more equipment.
2. Run a speed test while the problem is happening
Run a speed test from the same device and close unrelated downloads first. Compare a quiet-period result with a result taken during a match or queue failure. The test will not identify every routing problem, but a sharp drop while another person streams, uploads, or downloads points to congestion in your home connection.

A normal result does not prove that matchmaking is healthy. DNS, NAT, firewall rules, or a route-specific outage can still prevent a lobby from forming even when download and upload numbers look ordinary.
3. Close competing applications
Pause cloud synchronization, game downloads, video streams, screen captures, and large browser uploads. Also close overlays and utilities that hook into the game while testing. Launch Dead by Daylight from your platform library rather than an old desktop shortcut so the current installation and account handoff are used.
4. Update every layer
Install pending Windows, Dead by Daylight, platform-client, network-adapter, and graphics-driver updates. A mismatch between the game build and platform client can prevent matchmaking even when your internet browser works normally. Restart the platform client after updating instead of leaving an old session running.
5. Hard-reset the router
Power the router off, wait for it to shut down completely, then power it back on and wait until its internet connection is restored. This clears transient state that a quick software restart may leave behind. If other devices also lost connectivity, solve the underlying home-network issue before testing the game again.
6. Flush DNS on Windows
Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run:
ipconfig /flushdnsRestart the platform client after the command completes. Flushing DNS removes cached name lookups; it does not increase bandwidth or repair an outage, so combine it with the router and status checks rather than treating it as a universal lag cure.

7. Review NAT and firewall rules
Check the platform’s NAT status. A strict or unavailable NAT can make it difficult to establish peer or lobby connections even when a speed test looks good. On Windows, confirm that Dead by Daylight is allowed through Windows Firewall on the network profile you actually use. If you previously blocked the game, remove that block or add an exception, then restart the game and platform client.
Do not disable the firewall globally as a first test. The useful check is whether the game has the required exception on the active profile. If the platform reports a service outage, changing NAT or firewall settings will not restore that service.
Error 107: identify the disconnect or service problem
Behaviour Interactive defines Error 107 as occurring after a network disconnection and reconnection. It is therefore not a signal to lower graphics settings or reinstall immediately.
- Check the online-service status for the platform you use: Steam, Epic, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, or GeForce NOW.
- If that service reports an incident, wait for recovery instead of repeatedly launching the game.
- If the service is operational, follow the network sequence: test Ethernet, close competing applications, restart the router, flush DNS, review NAT, and check the Windows Firewall exception.
- Retry once the connection is stable. Record whether the error appears at login, while entering a lobby, during loading, or after a disconnect.
Repeated reinstalls are low-value while the platform is down. Error 107 can return as soon as the same network path drops again, even with perfectly verified game files. If another network works but your home connection does not, include that comparison in a support report.

Error 130: wait out a launch surge
Behaviour Interactive says Error 130 signifies an unusually large server load caused by many people trying to launch Dead by Daylight at once. The official guidance is to wait 15–30 minutes and try again. This is a server-capacity condition, not a local graphics setting.
After the waiting interval, close and reopen the platform client and make one fresh attempt. If Error 130 continues for 24 hours, contact Behaviour Interactive support with the platform, region, exact error text, and the time the problem began. Do not claim that a router reset or file verification fixed a server-wide launch surge; those steps address different failure layers.
Separate platform outages from a Haunted by Daylight event problem
Seasonal traffic can expose a platform or server issue that is unrelated to the event’s mechanics. Check the relevant platform status page and whether other players on different connections report the same symptom. A simultaneous failure across multiple devices points away from your graphics driver. A single-PC crash that persists offline or at launch points toward the client checklist.
Keep a short incident record: platform and operating-system version, game version, error number, exact time, screen or phase of the Trial, whether another network worked, and which reversible steps changed the behavior. This prevents support from receiving only “it lags” and helps distinguish a repeatable client fault from an intermittent service outage.
Do not assume 2025 event dates apply to 2026
Haunted by Daylight’s schedule and mechanics change from year to year. The latest official guide covered October 14 through November 4, 2025. Those are 2025 dates, not a confirmed 2026 schedule. No authoritative 2026 event timetable or 2026-specific fix list is established here; verify any 2026 announcement from Behaviour Interactive before relying on dates, rewards, or mechanics.
What earlier official guides show
The 2024 guide placed Haunted by Daylight on October 17 through November 7, 2024. It described the Void Realm, Void Crystals, Captured Haunts, Event Tome rewards, cosmetics, and daily rewards.
The 2025 guide again described the Void Realm and daily rewards, but its different dates demonstrate why an older calendar should not be copied into a new year.
The 2022 guide documented an official Dead by Daylight shop, seasonal Halloween collections, event cosmetics, and Void Energy deposited into Unstable Rifts. These are historical examples of event content, not a promise that every item or mechanic returns in the next Haunted by Daylight.
