Fixing a Star Wars game starts with identifying the failure: a crash or freeze, offline frame-rate stutter, a launch or file problem, or an online connection failure. Those symptoms can have different causes, so test them separately. Close unnecessary applications, restart the game and device, check game and platform service status, and then follow the branch for your platform. EA’s published steps are general support guidance rather than a guaranteed fix for every Star Wars title, patch, PC configuration, or console.
Start by identifying the symptom
The title “Star Wars game” covers different engines, editions, launchers, and online services. A game that closes to the desktop needs a different investigation from one that runs at 25 frames per second, and neither is diagnosed the same way as a match that disconnects. Use the symptom and scope to choose the right branch.

Also note whether the problem affects one Star Wars game or several games, whether it appears offline or only online, which storefront starts the game, and the exact error text. These details determine whether to investigate the title, the launcher, the platform, your account, or the home network.
Record the details before changing settings
Write down the game’s full name and edition, platform, storefront, operating-system or console version, and the date the problem began. Record the exact error code and the point at which it occurs: immediately after launch, while loading a save, during a cutscene, or after joining a match. Note whether restarting helps temporarily, whether every save or mode is affected, and whether another game on the same device has the same symptom.

- Offline or online: Test an offline mode or local practice session if the game offers one. A repeatable offline stutter points toward rendering or device load; an online-only failure points toward service, account, or network checks.
- One title or several: A single affected game makes its files, patch, or settings more likely. Several affected games justify checking the platform, system software, drivers, or hardware more broadly.
- Exact wording: Preserve the full message rather than paraphrasing it. “Unable to connect” and “license cannot be verified” lead to different checks.
- Recent changes: Include a new patch, graphics-setting change, peripheral, launcher update, account change, or router change. Do not assume the newest change is the cause, but record it.
Fix crashes and freezes
Start with reversible checks. If the game is frozen, close it normally if possible; otherwise restart the device. Do not repeatedly force-shut down a console or PC while it is writing a save. Then apply the branch for your platform.
PC: close background applications first
Close browsers, recording tools, overlays, hardware-monitoring utilities, and other applications you do not need for the test. Background programs compete for memory, processor time, storage access, or a graphics overlay. Launch the game again with only the launcher and required system processes running.
If the crash continues, EA’s general cross-platform crash and freezing guidance suggests a clean boot. A clean boot starts the operating system with nonessential startup services disabled so you can determine whether another program is interfering. Follow the current clean-boot instructions for your version of Windows, and keep a note of anything you disable so it can be restored afterward. A clean boot is a diagnostic test, not a permanent gaming configuration.
Repair the installation in the EA app
For a game installed through the EA app, use the built-in file check before reinstalling:
- Open the EA app and select Library.
- Select the affected game.
- Open Manage.
- Choose Repair and wait for verification or replacement of damaged files.
- Restart the EA app and test the game before changing several other settings.
This path applies to the EA app’s own controls. Another PC launcher may use different labels and a different repair command; do not assume that an EA app menu exists there.
Test a frame-rate cap or V-Sync
EA also lists a frame-rate cap and V-Sync as tests for PC crash or performance symptoms. Set a conservative frame-rate limit in the game’s graphics options, or enable V-Sync and test the same scene again. V-Sync is normally in the game’s video or graphics menu. If the game does not expose it, EA advises checking the graphics-card manufacturer’s support information for the applicable control-panel setting.

These changes are diagnostic checks, not proof that uncapped rendering caused the crash. If the game becomes stable, change one setting at a time to find the trigger; if it does not, return to the original setting and continue with file, launcher, or system checks.

Reinstall only after lower-risk checks
When closing applications, a clean boot, repair, and graphics tests do not help, EA’s general guidance includes reinstalling the game and, if necessary, the EA app. Confirm that cloud saves or local saves are backed up according to the game’s and platform’s instructions before removing an installation. Ensure you have enough storage and time for a full download, and test the clean installation before restoring optional mods or overlays.
Console checks shared by PlayStation and Xbox
For either major console family, install current system software, temporarily unplug attached USB devices, restart the console, and perform a full power cycle. USB storage, capture devices, hubs, and other accessories can be useful, but removing them is a quick way to test whether one is contributing to a freeze. Reconnect devices one at a time after testing.
EA lists reinstalling the game as a later console step. Treat it as a recovery action rather than the first response: verify your account can redownload the title, check available storage, and confirm save data is synchronized or otherwise protected.
Additional PlayStation checks
EA’s console guidance includes restoring the game’s license on PlayStation. Use the current license-restoration path for your PlayStation model and system-software version, then restart the game. Menu names can change between console generations, so follow the instructions shown by the console maker rather than an old screenshot.

For Xbox, EA lists clearing the alternate MAC address and deleting local saved data among its troubleshooting steps. Clearing the alternate MAC address causes the console to restart and rebuild that network setting. Deleting local saved data can remove unsynchronized progress, so first confirm that the save is synced to the account or obtain current Xbox guidance; do not choose a destructive option casually. If the wording on your console differs, use the current Xbox instructions for the same function.

When the crash is title-specific
Official support hubs for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Star Wars Battlefront direct players to broad EA crash, connection, and PC diagnostic resources. That makes those checks relevant starting points for EA-supported games, but it does not establish that every title has identical causes or settings. A crash tied to one mission, save, graphics option, or patch should also be reported through that game’s support page with the exact version and error details.
Stop stuttering and low FPS
First determine whether the symptom is visual frame-rate instability or network delay. If camera movement is uneven in an offline level, the problem is occurring on the local device even though the game may still be playable. If offline play is smooth but online characters teleport, actions arrive late, or the match drops, use the connection section instead.
Use a controlled performance test
- Restart the device and launch only the game and required launcher.
- Reproduce the issue in the same area or scene so each test is comparable.
- Close background programs before the test, especially capture, streaming, browser, and overlay software.
- Try a frame-rate cap or V-Sync, changing only one option at a time.
- Record whether the symptom changes in offline play and online play.
EA specifically recommends closing background applications and suggests frame-rate capping or V-Sync as tests for PC performance and crash symptoms. Do not treat a higher graphics setting, a new graphics card, an Ethernet cable, or a router replacement as a universal cure: the available guidance does not establish any of those purchases as a general fix for an undiagnosed problem.

If only one title is affected, repair its files and check its title-specific support notices before making system-wide changes.
Fix connection, sign-in, and matchmaking problems
An online failure can originate with the game’s service, the console or PC platform network, the account or subscription, or the local connection. Check those layers in that order. Advanced router changes should wait until service and account causes are excluded.
1. Check game and platform status
Check the game’s official service-status information and the status page for your platform before changing DNS, port settings, or router configuration. A widespread outage cannot be repaired from your home network. Status pages can lag behind a newly developing incident, so repeat the check after a short interval if the symptom is sudden and affects multiple players.

EA’s connection guidance also warns that online services for some older games may have been shut down. If the title is discontinued online, reinstalling, opening ports, or replacing a router will not restore matchmaking. Confirm that the specific edition and platform still have an advertised online service.

2. Verify platform and account access
Confirm that the platform is signed in, the game is using the intended account, and any required online subscription is active for that console. Check for an account restriction, expired entitlement, parental-control block, or license-verification message. A sign-in or entitlement error is not the same as packet loss; resolve the account message first.
3. Compare online and offline behavior
Run an offline mode or local activity, then try another online title on the same device and network. If every online game fails, investigate the platform network or home connection. If only one Star Wars title fails while other online games work, the title’s service, account entitlement, patch, or regional availability is more likely. If one device fails but another works on the same network, focus on the affected device’s account, software, or network settings.
4. Test the local connection safely
Restart the modem or router according to its manual, then restart the gaming device and retry. If possible, compare the normal connection with a temporary wired connection or another trusted network; this is a comparison test, not a recommendation to buy equipment. Avoid changing several router settings at once. If you are not comfortable with port forwarding, DNS changes, or other advanced options, use the router manufacturer’s or internet provider’s current instructions rather than copying an unverified setting.

When a download is stuck or fails
- Check EA service availability and your connection before repeatedly restarting the download.
- Clear the EA app cache using the app’s current cache-recovery option, then sign in again and retry.
- Confirm sufficient storage and that the download location is accessible.
Cache clearing targets download and app-state problems; it does not repair damaged game files by itself. Use Library → game → Manage → Repair when the installed game will not load.
When the game crashes after launching
EA says its in-game overlay can sometimes contribute to a PC game crash. Temporarily turn off the overlay in the EA app, launch the game, and test the same action that previously failed. If the crash disappears, re-enable the overlay after the underlying issue is fixed because it provides invitations and messages; leaving it disabled is a diagnostic workaround, not a universal requirement.
When to escalate and what to include
Escalate to the game’s publisher, platform maker, or launcher support when the basic branch for your symptom has failed, the problem is reproducible, or an account, license, or server issue is suspected. Include the information that lets support separate a title defect from a local configuration:

- Whether the issue occurs offline, online, at launch, or only in one mode or save.
- Whether repair, restart, power cycle, clean boot, overlay testing, or reinstall changed the behavior.
- Approximate time and date of online failures, plus the platform account status and service-status result.
Do not delete saves, reset a console, or change advanced network settings merely because a generic checklist mentions them. Confirm synchronization and understand the recovery path first. The safest order is reversible diagnosis, platform or account verification, file repair, and only then reinstall or destructive local-data actions.
A compact decision path
- Classify: crash/freeze, offline stutter, launch/file failure, or online connection failure.
- Scope: test one title versus another game, and offline versus online play.
- Stabilize: restart the game and device; close unnecessary applications; check service status.
- Branch: use PC, PlayStation, Xbox, EA app, or connection-specific checks rather than mixing them.
- Change one variable: repair files, test V-Sync or a frame cap, clear a launcher cache, or compare networks one at a time.
- Protect data: verify saves and account access before reinstalling or deleting local data.
- Escalate with evidence: provide version, error, reproduction steps, scope, and the checks already completed.
This process cannot identify a single cause from the broad phrase “Star Wars game.” It does ensure that a server outage is not mistaken for a graphics problem, a frame-rate drop is not mistaken for network lag, and a launcher file error is not treated as a console hardware failure.
