Start by separating the symptom from the platform. STAR WARS: Galactic Racer is available on Steam for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, but the published PC requirements do not apply to consoles. Identify the platform and the exact symptom first
Write down four facts before changing anything: platform, storefront or console model, connection method, and the precise failure. “It runs badly” can mean a low average frame rate, intermittent stutter, shader hitching, a crash, a controller that is not detected, one unresponsive action, or a prompt that shows the wrong button. Each points to a different branch.

Check whether a PC meets the published baseline
Steam’s 2026 listing gives compatibility targets, not a guaranteed frame rate, resolution, or quality preset. Treat “minimum” as a starting point for investigating whether the computer is below the published baseline, and “recommended” as a higher reference point—not as a performance promise.

How to compare your PC
- In Windows, open Settings → System → About and note the processor and installed RAM. Open Task Manager → Performance to identify the GPU.
- In Steam, open Library, right-click the game, choose Properties → Installed Files, and check the installation drive’s free space. The drive should be an SSD, not merely a disk with 50 GB free.
- Classify the result as below minimum, around minimum, or at/above recommended. If the processor, memory, or graphics card is below minimum, software adjustments may reduce load but cannot establish that the game will run acceptably.
- Leave additional free space beyond the stated 50 GB so Windows, shader caches, and updates are not forced into a nearly full drive. The Steam requirement itself is 50 GB; any extra headroom is a practical diagnostic precaution, not a published game requirement.
Diagnose low or unstable frame rate on Steam PC
First decide whether the problem is consistently low performance or intermittent hitching. A low frame rate throughout a race usually indicates a sustained CPU/GPU or memory limit. A brief pause when entering a new area, loading effects, or turning quickly is a frame-time spike. Without an official Galactic Racer benchmark, use this distinction to test one variable at a time rather than infer a guaranteed result from the requirements table.

- Use the same race, location, camera view, and display mode for each comparison.
- Play for several minutes after loading rather than judging the first seconds alone; background loading can create a temporary spike.
- Note whether the issue is visible on the whole screen, accompanied by audio delay, or limited to input feeling sluggish. A display refresh mismatch can feel like a game problem even when rendering is stable.
2. Reduce the largest rendering costs first
If the game exposes resolution scale, shadows, reflections, effects, crowd or track detail, and post-processing controls, lower one setting at a time and retest the same route. Reducing output resolution or resolution scale generally tests GPU load; lowering shadows and effects tests scene complexity. Do not assume that a setting exists or that a particular value is recommended—the official material located for this title does not publish a graphics-settings guide.

3. Check system contention
- Close unnecessary browsers, recording tools, overlays, and launchers temporarily. This is a general PC diagnostic, not a developer-confirmed Galactic Racer fix.
- In Task Manager → Processes, watch CPU, memory, GPU, and disk usage while the hitch occurs. A memory graph near capacity or a drive pinned at 100% can explain stutter without a graphics-card fault.
- Use the latest stable driver supplied by your GPU manufacturer and restart Windows after installation. If a problem began immediately after a driver change, testing the previous stable driver is a diagnostic step; it is not an official game remedy.

4. Check display synchronization

5. Verify the installation only after recording the symptom
Steam’s Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files is a general file-integrity check. It can identify damaged or missing local files, but no official source identified it as a verified Galactic Racer fix. Let it finish, restart Steam, and retest the same scenario. A reinstall is a last-resort general diagnostic, not a source-backed guarantee. Reinstalling to an SSD with insufficient free space, restoring the same conflicting overlay, or using the same outdated driver can reproduce the failure.

Console performance checks
PS5 and Xbox Series X|S do not use the Steam PC requirements. Do not judge a console’s performance by comparing its hardware with the PC table.
PlayStation 5
- Install the latest system and game updates shown by the console, then fully restart the PS5 rather than only resuming the title from rest mode.
- Test the same race after closing other suspended applications. If the issue appears only after rest mode, compare a fresh launch and record that distinction.
- Use the display’s standard mode temporarily if you suspect a television or HDMI feature is causing judder, blanking, or input delay. This tests the display chain and does not claim to repair an in-game frame-rate fault.
PlayStation’s product page documents alternate control presets or some remapping support and says the game can be played with controller vibration or haptic feedback turned off: PlayStation game page. Xbox Series X|S
- Fully quit the game from the Xbox dashboard, restart the console, and launch a new session.
- Check the controller’s battery or wired connection and test the console dashboard before launching the game. If buttons fail outside Galactic Racer, troubleshoot the controller or console first.
- Install pending game and system updates, then retest the same race. The official launch information confirms Xbox Series X|S availability but does not publish a title-specific performance checklist.
Fix controller detection and input problems
Steam lists full controller support, specifically names Xbox and PlayStation controllers, and recommends controller play. - Test the controller in Steam’s controller settings or another known game. If it is absent there, the fault is outside Galactic Racer.
- Connect it directly by USB for one test, even if you normally use Bluetooth. A wired test separates radio pairing, battery, and adapter issues from game input handling.
- Disconnect extra gamepads, wheels, virtual devices, and remapping utilities. Leave one physical controller connected and restart Steam.

Xbox Series X|S: test outside the game
Press the Xbox button and navigate the dashboard. If navigation is unreliable, replace or recharge the batteries, reseat the cable, or re-pair the controller according to Xbox’s standard process before reopening the game. If the dashboard is reliable but one Galactic Racer action is not, document the exact action, whether it fails in menus, and whether another controller reproduces it. A particular action does not respond
- Test the same physical button in the game’s menus and in a race.
- Check the control screen for an alternate preset or binding option. On PS5, the official page confirms that alternate presets or some remapping support exists; it does not promise that every action can be remapped.
- Disconnect other input devices and retry with one controller.
- Compare a second controller only as an isolation test. A replacement is not a proven cure, and no cited source establishes that buying a new controller resolves Galactic Racer input faults.
The game shows the wrong button icons
Prompt glyphs can differ from the physical controller when a PC remapping layer presents an Xbox-style device to a game, when a PlayStation controller is connected through a compatibility layer, or when the game has not refreshed its detected device.
