A crease in a Galaxy Z Fold or Z Flip display is usually part of the flexible design. A bubble or lifting edge in the inner film is often a replaceable-film problem, while a black or white line, spreading crack, black spot, flicker, or dead touch strip can indicate damage to the display assembly. Start with the least invasive checks, never pick at the inner film or press the crease, and use a Samsung service center for persistent touch faults or visible structural damage.
First, separate a normal crease from a screen fault
The inner screen is not a single rigid pane. Samsung describes the Infinity Flex display as a layered assembly containing an AMOLED panel, Ultra Thin Glass (UTG), a protective layer, and a replaceable protective film. Because those layers must bend, a fine crease or subtle change in reflection can be visible when you look at the screen from different angles.
Samsung support describes the expected behavior this way: “The foldable display has some fine bends depending on the angle, with a thin, flexible glass and film for the folding function.” A crease that looks consistent, does not spread, and does not affect image or touch operation is therefore not automatically a defect.

|---|---|---|
| A fine, even bend that changes with viewing angle | Normal flexibility of the foldable display layers | Continue using the phone normally, while keeping the hinge and inner screen free of debris. |
| Small bubbles, scratches, or an edge lifting along the crease | Wear or separation of the replaceable inner protective film | Do not peel or puncture it; arrange film replacement through Samsung service. |
| A black or white line, black spot, crack, abnormal brightness, or damage that grows around the fold | Possible UTG or internal display damage, especially after impact or pressure | Stop pressing or repeatedly folding the area and arrange professional inspection. |
| A strip of the screen no longer responds to touch | Software, accessory, protector, moisture, or internal display fault | Run the touch checks below once; use Samsung Members diagnostics and service if the problem remains. |
A change that is visible only at a particular angle is different from a new line that remains visible in normal use. Compare the screen with the phone open and closed without pushing on the crease. Do not use repeated folding as a test: extra cycles or pressure can worsen damage that is already present.

Safety rules before you troubleshoot
- Do not press down on the crease to flatten it or massage a bubble toward an edge.
- Do not insert a fingernail, card, key, pen, or tool between the panels before folding the phone.
- Keep sand, metal particles, and other debris away from the hinge and the gap between the two halves.
- Keep the factory inner film installed unless Samsung or an authorized repairer replaces it.
- Do not apply an unapproved film, sticker, liquid adhesive, or generic screen protector to the main folding display.
- Fold the phone only through its normal hinge motion; do not force it past the hinge’s natural travel.
- If you see a crack, black area, spreading line, or dead touch region, stop experimenting and arrange inspection.
These precautions matter because a particle trapped between the panels can concentrate force on the flexible glass when the phone closes. A drop or pressure event can also crack UTG even when the outer surfaces appear mostly intact.
How to fix bubbles, scratches, or lifting on the inner screen
Recognize a film problem
The inner protective film is a consumable layer. Samsung says that scratches, bubbles, and lifting can develop with use and may mean the film—not the AMOLED display underneath—is damaged. A bubble that follows the film’s edge or a lifted section that moves with the surface film fits this pattern. You should still avoid trying to prove it by lifting the edge yourself.
Do not peel the film at home
Picking at the film can expose the layers beneath it and can turn a film replacement into a display repair. Do not cut away only the damaged section, use adhesive tape to pull it up, or substitute a generic film designed for a rigid phone. Samsung specifically advises arranging replacement through a Samsung service center rather than removing or replacing the inner film as a do-it-yourself job.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Arrange the correct replacement
- Record whether the problem is on the inner folding screen or the outer cover screen.
- Identify the exact Galaxy Z Fold or Z Flip generation before contacting support; parts and procedures are model-specific.
- Describe the symptom as a bubble, scratch, or lifting film and mention any drop, pressure, or contact with debris.
- Ask Samsung or an authorized repair center to inspect the phone and replace the inner film using the approved process.
If the image and touch remain normal, a film replacement may resolve the appearance without replacing the entire display. If a line, crack, black spot, flicker, or touch failure accompanies the film damage, tell the technician; those symptoms require assessment of the display assembly, not just a new surface film.

Fix a Galaxy Foldable whose touch is unreliable
Touch problems have several possible causes. Samsung lists temporary software faults, screen protectors, accessibility settings, moisture, and third-party accessories among factors that can interfere with touch. Work through these checks in order and stop if the screen shows signs of physical damage.
1. Restart the phone
- Save any open work if the phone still responds.
- Restart the device using the normal power menu.
- After it starts again, test the previously affected area with simple taps and a short swipe.
A restart is the least invasive check for a temporary software fault. If the same strip remains unresponsive immediately after reboot, continue rather than repeatedly folding the phone.
2. Remove possible physical interference
- Remove a third-party case, especially one that presses near the hinge or edges.
- Remove any non-factory protector or sticker from the area being tested.
- Wipe the screen with a suitable soft, dry cloth and dry your hands.
- Test again with the phone open on a stable surface.
Moisture, residue, a poorly fitted accessory, or a protector that changes the contact response can make an otherwise healthy panel appear faulty. Do not add another film to compensate.
3. Check touch-related settings
Review accessibility and display settings that can change how taps or gestures are interpreted. If the factory inner film has already been removed, Samsung says touch sensitivity may be mismatched. In that situation, open Settings > Display and turn Touch sensitivity off. Do not enable or disable the setting at random while the factory film is still installed; match the setting to the phone’s actual film condition.

4. Run Samsung Members diagnostics
Use the diagnostics available in the Samsung Members app to test the screen and touch hardware. Follow the on-screen test and note whether the failure is a fixed strip, an intermittent area, or a problem that appears only while the phone is folding. A diagnostic result is useful when you contact service, but it does not authorize you to remove the inner film or open the device.
5. Escalate a persistent fault
If touch remains unreliable after the restart, accessory removal, drying, setting check, and diagnostics, arrange inspection through Samsung or an authorized repair center. Include the date the fault began and whether it followed a drop, pressure at the crease, moisture, or film lifting. A dead region that remains in the same place is not something to fix by pressing harder or rapidly opening and closing the phone.
What to do about a black or white line, spots, cracks, or flicker
Why these symptoms are more serious
Samsung warns that impact can produce black or white dots and lines, abnormal brightness, cracks, or damage that spreads around the fold. A drop, pressure on the closed phone, or foreign material between the panels can crack the UTG or damage the display layers. Samsung also notes that a white line can appear while folding after UTG damage.
These signs are different from a normal crease because they represent a change in the image or surface condition. Flicker, a line that remains visible at ordinary viewing angles, a black spot, or a crack should be treated as possible internal damage even if touch still works.

Immediate actions
- Stop pressing the affected spot and do not try to push a line back into place.
- Avoid repeatedly folding and unfolding the phone to see whether the symptom disappears.
- Keep foreign material out of the hinge and do not close the device over a card, key, pen, or grain of sand.
- Back up important data while the phone is still usable, without stressing the damaged area.
- Contact Samsung or an authorized repair center for an inspection.
Do not assume that a replacement inner film will solve a line or black spot. The film is a separate consumable layer; a crack in UTG or a damaged AMOLED assembly needs professional diagnosis and may require a different repair.
Moisture, dust, and debris around the hinge
Foldables need more care around the hinge and the gap between the panels than a rigid phone. Keep the area free of sand, metal particles, cards, keys, pens, and other objects before closing the device. Even a small particle can create concentrated pressure when the two halves meet.
Some Galaxy foldable models have water-resistance claims, but Samsung’s guidance is model-specific. Follow the manual for your exact model and do not treat water resistance as permission to use a phone with a damaged screen, lifted film, or compromised hinge. Water resistance does not remove the need to keep contamination out of the folding gap.
Recommended Free Tools
If touch becomes erratic after moisture or contamination, dry the device and your hands, remove third-party accessories, and perform the restart and setting checks. Do not push liquid toward the crease, apply heat, or insert an object to clean inside the hinge. Persistent symptoms after drying belong with Samsung service.

Replacing the inner screen protector safely
For a physical replacement, search using the exact model and the terms “Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Z Flip inner screen protector replacement”. Confirm two details before accepting any listing or appointment:
- The exact Fold or Flip generation, not merely the product family.
- Whether the part is for the inner folding display or the outer cover screen.
An online film listing is not automatically a do-it-yourself repair path. Samsung’s own guidance favors service-center replacement for the inner film because the installation has to preserve the foldable display layers and touch behavior. A generic film, adhesive, or rigid-phone protector can create new bubbles, interfere with touch, or place pressure where the display bends.
When booking service, state whether the film is only scratched or bubbled, or whether you also have a line, crack, black area, flicker, or dead touch strip. That distinction helps the center assess whether a film replacement is appropriate or whether the display and hinge need examination.
When professional repair is the right next step
Use Samsung or an authorized repair center when any of the following applies:
- The inner film is lifting, bubbling, or scratched and needs replacement.
- Touch remains unreliable after the basic checks and Samsung Members diagnostics.
- A line, black spot, crack, abnormal brightness, or flicker is visible.
- Damage appeared after a drop, pressure at the crease, or debris between the panels.
- The hinge does not move normally or the screen changes as the hinge moves.
Warranty coverage, repair pricing, and parts availability vary by country, model, inspection findings, and the cause of damage. Samsung must confirm those details for your device; do not assume that a film replacement, impact damage, or moisture-related fault receives the same coverage as a manufacturing defect.
Before handing over the phone, record the model, software version if available, symptom photographs, and the sequence of events that preceded the fault. Back up data while the device still operates. Avoid further folding if the screen is separating or the display damage is spreading.
A prevention routine for Fold and Flip owners
Before closing the phone
- Look across the inner display and hinge gap for sand, metal particles, cards, keys, pens, or other debris.
- Make sure no object is resting on the screen.
- Close the phone only along its normal hinge path.
During everyday use
- Keep the factory inner film in place.
- Avoid pressing directly on the crease, even when cleaning or demonstrating the fold.
- Use only accessories and protectors that Samsung approves for the specific model.
- Keep hands and the display dry when testing touch.
When a symptom first appears
- Classify it as a normal angle-dependent crease, a surface-film issue, a touch issue, or possible structural display damage.
- Perform only the non-invasive checks that match that category.
- Stop troubleshooting and seek service if the symptom includes a crack, spreading line, black area, or persistent dead touch region.
Quick decision guide
| Symptom | Safe first response | Escalation point |
|---|---|---|
| Fine crease visible only at certain angles | Leave the display intact and use the phone normally. | Service is needed if the appearance changes or image/touch symptoms develop. |
| Bubble, scratch, or lifted inner film | Do not pick, peel, cut, or cover it with generic adhesive. | Book Samsung service for approved film replacement. |
| Touch failure without visible damage | Restart; remove accessories; dry the phone and hands; check settings; run Samsung Members diagnostics. | Persistent failure requires professional inspection. |
| Black/white line, black spot, crack, flicker, or spreading damage | Stop pressing and repeated folding; protect the phone from debris. | Arrange prompt Samsung or authorized repair assessment. |
| Symptoms after moisture or contamination | Dry the device and remove external accessories without inserting tools into the hinge. | Use service if touch or display behavior does not return to normal. |
The key distinction is whether the problem is confined to the replaceable film or affects the image, touch response, or structure underneath. When that distinction is uncertain, avoiding additional pressure and getting a professional inspection is safer than attempting a home repair.
