First, identify what is failing

Record changes in order. For example, note whether the problem remains after updating the graphics driver, after Steam checks the game files, and after confirming the monitor cable is attached to the graphics card. The 60 FPS at 1080p notes are part of Steam’s published requirement descriptions, not a test result for your PC. Hardware condition, configuration, and the particular situation in a game can affect what a player experiences. If a component falls below the listed minimum, first establish that difference; changing graphics options cannot make the hardware meet a published requirement.
The contrast between the two listings is a practical reason to check each title independently. ELDEN RING lists 12 GB of RAM and a GTX 1060 with 3 GB of VRAM or RX 580 with 4 GB as minimums; its recommended listing rises to 16 GB of RAM and a GTX 1070 with 8 GB or Radeon RX Vega 56 with 8 GB. DARK SOULS: REMASTERED lists 6 GB minimum and 8 GB recommended, along with substantially different graphics-card and storage entries. A PC that meets one game’s published baseline should not be presumed to meet another’s.
Compare like with like when you check your PC. Look up the processor model, installed RAM, graphics-card model and VRAM, Windows version, DirectX requirement, and available storage, then compare each one with the exact game’s current official listing. Do not compare only a graphics-card brand or processor family; the published tables specify particular models and, for graphics, memory capacities. If you are unsure which components are installed, gather the model names before asking support or considering a purchase. A partial comparison can miss a mismatch in memory, operating system, or storage.
“Minimum” and “recommended” are labels in the publisher’s or store’s specification. They are not a customized diagnosis of a particular stutter, and the published figures do not establish a result for every PC configuration. Steam’s DARK SOULS: REMASTERED notes associate minimum hardware with low settings at 60 FPS and recommended hardware with high settings at 60 FPS, both at 1080p. Check display compatibility before changing graphics settings
FromSoftware states that the Steam PC version of ELDEN RING does not support ultrawide monitors. If the game does not use the full width of an ultrawide display, that limitation should not be mistaken for a routine resolution setting that can necessarily be corrected in the graphics menu. The FAQ separately advises checking that the game files are correctly installed when certain visuals are missing or loading is incomplete.

This distinction answers two different questions: “Does ELDEN RING support ultrawide?” and “Why are visuals missing or incomplete?” For the Steam PC version, the official answer to the first is no. For the second, FromSoftware’s FAQ points players toward checking whether the game files are correctly installed. Do not treat that file check as a way to add ultrawide support, or treat the ultrawide limitation as proof that incomplete loading is expected. Describe the display and the actual symptom if you contact support.
Diagnose a controller that is not detected or behaves inconsistently
There is no single official controller-detection procedure established for every Soulslike game and PC setup. Use a layered check to isolate the problem, and treat the following sequence as diagnosis rather than a guaranteed fix.

- Inspect Steam’s per-game controller configuration. If the game recognizes the device but buttons or sticks behave incorrectly, review the configuration for that game. Change one mapping or setting at a time and test the result before making another change.
- Isolate other input tools. If more than one remapping or input utility is involved, test with one configuration path at a time where possible. Do not assume an overlay change, a particular Steam Input setting, or a remapping utility is the right answer for every title.
At each stage, note what is recognized and what is not. For example, if the OS recognizes the controller but the game does not, that is a different failure point from a controller that disconnects before Steam can detect it. This evidence is more useful than cycling through unrelated settings.
A useful diagnostic sequence is: connection, operating system, Steam, then the game. Each layer narrows where the failure appears, but it does not by itself prove why it happened. If the device is absent from the operating system, changing an in-game button layout is unlikely to answer the recognition problem. If the operating system and Steam both see it but the game does not, report exactly that distinction. If the game sees it but inputs are incorrect, document which controls misbehave and review the game’s own options and Steam’s configuration one change at a time.
When comparing wired and wireless operation, do not change connection type and remapping settings simultaneously. The same principle applies to input or remapping utilities: identify whether more than one is involved and test one configuration path at a time where possible. No particular Steam Input option, overlay change, or utility setting is established here as the right choice for every game.
What official controller guidance does—and does not—establish
Steam’s listing for DARK SOULS: Prepare To Die Edition says that a “Microsoft Xbox 360® Controller for Windows® (or equivalent) is strongly recommended.” That is a compatibility signal for that older PC title and a controller category. It does not establish that every Soulslike requires that device, that a new controller will fix a software mapping conflict, or that the same advice applies to every edition.
Do not buy replacement hardware solely because a game fails to detect a controller. First determine whether the current device is defective or unsuitable, and check its recognition and connection. If replacement is genuinely needed, confirm compatibility with the target game and platform, choose the connection type that suits the setup, and check the seller’s return policy. The published guidance does not establish a particular controller model as a tested solution.

If you are comparing replacement options, begin with the actual need: whether the existing controller is physically faulty, does not maintain a stable connection, or is unsuitable for the game or platform.
