Chrome does not have a universal built-in command for copying several link URLs at once. That job is normally handled by an extension or a page-specific workflow, so failure usually occurs in one of three layers: the extension is disabled or lacks the required context, the extension cannot write to the clipboard, or the website or organization managing Chrome blocks clipboard access.
Work through the checks below in order. First confirm the extension and its access settings, then test clipboard behavior on a simple page, and finally check site or enterprise policy if the problem is limited to one website or one managed computer.
What is actually failing when several links will not copy?
A multi-link command has more moving parts than ordinary text copying. The extension must identify the links you selected, run in the page context where those links exist, and place the resulting URLs on the system clipboard. Chrome treats those capabilities separately.

- Context access: File URLs and private browsing (incognito) are separate contexts. An extension may work on ordinary web pages while being blocked on a local file or an incognito tab.
- Clipboard permission: Chrome identifies
clipboardWriteas the extension permission that lets it cut and copy items to the clipboard through the web platform Clipboard API. Chrome’s permission-warning documentation also describes this capability for extensions that usedocument.execCommand('copy')ordocument.execCommand('cut'). - Site or administrator policy: A website can deny clipboard access, and an organization can enforce clipboard rules for managed Chrome profiles. Those controls can override an otherwise enabled extension.
If ordinary copy works but a multi-link command fails, the extension’s selection, context, or clipboard path is the most likely fault. If ordinary copy fails as well, investigate the site’s clipboard permission or a managed-browser restriction.

Step 1: Confirm that the extension is enabled
- Enter
chrome://extensionsin Chrome’s address bar and press Enter. - Find the extension that provides the multi-link command. If its switch is off, turn it on.
- Select Details and confirm that the extension is installed in the profile you are currently using. Chrome profiles have separate extension installations and settings, so switching profiles can make a working command appear to have disappeared.
- Return to the source page, reload it, and try the command again.
If the extension is enabled but its command is absent from the right-click menu, the page may be a restricted Chrome page, a browser settings page, or another context in which extensions cannot inject their normal controls. Test a standard website before changing more settings.
Step 2: Allow the context the workflow needs
Local files
Pages opened from your computer use a file:// address rather than a normal website address. Chrome provides a separate control for extensions that need access to file URLs.
- Open
chrome://extensions. - Select the link-copy extension’s Details.
- Find the setting that allows access to file URLs and enable it.
- Close and reopen the local file, then test with one link before selecting several.
Only enable file-URL access when the extension’s function requires it. This setting is independent of the extension’s general enabled/disabled switch.

Incognito access is also controlled separately. An extension that works in a regular window may not run in private browsing until you explicitly allow it.
- Open the extension’s Details page from
chrome://extensions. - Enable Allow in incognito if your copying workflow is in an incognito window.
- Open a new incognito tab, revisit the page, and test again.
Chrome documents file-URL and incognito controls as separate extension access settings. Enabling one does not enable the other.

Step 3: Check the clipboard capability
A link-copy extension needs a way to write the extracted URLs to the clipboard. Chrome’s extension permission reference calls that capability clipboardWrite and defines it as: “Lets the extension cut and copy items to the clipboard using the web platform Clipboard API.”
- From
chrome://extensions, open the extension’s Details page. - Review the permissions shown by Chrome and the extension’s Chrome Web Store listing. Look for a clipboard-writing capability or the
clipboardWritepermission. - If the extension’s documented workflow requires clipboard writing but that capability is not present, the installed extension may be an outdated, incomplete, or different product from the one you intended to use. Check the listing before installing anything else.
- After changing an extension or its permissions, reload the source page and repeat the one-link test.
Do not confuse permission to read links with permission to write copied text. An extension can identify URLs correctly and still fail at the final clipboard step if it cannot write to the clipboard.
Step 4: Check the website’s clipboard permission
When copying fails on only one site, test the same extension on a different ordinary webpage. A difference between sites points to page-level policy rather than a broken extension installation.
- Open the affected page.
- Select the site-information control at the left of Chrome’s address bar.
- Open the site’s permissions and locate the clipboard setting, if Chrome exposes one for that page.
- Allow clipboard access when the site and your organization’s rules permit it, then reload the page.
- Test first with one ordinary link and then with a small group of links.
A site can deny clipboard access even while the extension is enabled and has clipboardWrite. If the permission is controlled or unavailable, the page owner or your administrator may be enforcing that choice.
Step 5: Consider managed Chrome policies
Chrome managed by a company, school, or other organization can apply clipboard rules centrally. Administrators can allow clipboard prompts, deny a site’s clipboard permission, or allow and block URL patterns. These policies can affect every extension in the profile.

Signs that policy is involved
- The same extension fails on multiple sites in a work or school profile but works in a personal Chrome profile.
- A clipboard permission is locked, unavailable, or repeatedly resets after you change it.
- Other users on the same managed device report the same behavior.
- The failure follows the managed account to another managed computer.
What to ask an administrator
Provide the exact site address, whether the tab was regular or incognito, whether it was a local file, and whether ordinary single-link copying worked. Ask whether the organization blocks clipboard prompts, denies clipboard access for that site, or uses URL allow/block patterns. An administrator can compare those rules with the page where the failure occurs; a user cannot override a policy that is centrally enforced.

Step 6: Isolate the failure with a controlled test
- Reload the source page.
- Select one visible link and run the extension’s copy command.
- Paste into a plain-text editor. Plain text makes it easy to see whether a URL was placed on the clipboard without formatting or hidden characters.
- Repeat with two or three links selected together.
- Try the same sequence on a different ordinary website.
Interpret the results rather than repeating the same command. If one link works but several do not on every site, the extension’s selection or extraction logic is the likely problem. If several work on one site but not another, inspect the affected site’s clipboard permission. If even ordinary manual copying fails, stop troubleshooting the multi-link command and address the page or enterprise clipboard restriction first.
Step 7: Use the extension’s documented selection method
Multi-link tools do not all interpret a selection in the same way. Some require highlighted text containing links; others extract links from a broader selection or provide additional actions. Follow the method documented for the extension instead of assuming that selecting the links themselves is sufficient.
Copy Highlighted Links
- On a page containing the desired links, highlight the text that contains those links.
- Right-click the highlighted area.
- Choose Copy Selected Links.
- Paste into a plain-text editor to verify the resulting URLs.
Its listing identifies clipboardWrite as the permission needed to copy URLs. If the command is missing, return to the extension, context, and site-permission checks above.
CopiTool
- Select text containing the links you want to extract.
- Run CopiTool’s link-extraction action and choose the option that copies the URLs.
- Paste into a plain-text editor and check that each URL appears as expected.
- Use its documented clipboard-URL opening function only when you deliberately want to open the collected links; copying and opening are separate actions.
These tools represent different workflows: one centers on highlighted text and a context-menu command, while the other combines extraction, copying, and bulk opening. Verify the current permissions and listing details before installing, because Chrome Web Store metadata can change.

Compare multi-link extensions before replacing one
If the current tool remains unreliable, compare candidates against the way you work rather than choosing by name alone. The following criteria are the ones that affect whether copying will work in your situation.

The command disappeared after selecting text
Clear the selection, reload the page, and select a small block of text that visibly contains links. If the command returns, the original selection may have been outside the extension’s supported format. If it remains absent on ordinary pages, inspect the extension’s enabled state and Details page.
The clipboard contains nothing
Test one link and paste into a plain-text editor. If the one-link test is also empty, verify clipboardWrite, page access, and site clipboard permission. If one link works but a group is empty, reduce the selection and use the extension’s documented highlighted-text workflow.

The result includes the wrong URLs
Use a plain-text paste to inspect the output. Select only the text containing the intended links, avoid navigation or unrelated page regions, and repeat with a smaller group. Tools that extract from selected text can include every matching link in that selection; narrowing the selection is the corrective action.

It stopped working after moving to private browsing
Enable Allow in incognito on the extension’s Details page, then open a fresh incognito tab. If the control is locked by an administrator, the policy must be changed by that administrator.
It stopped working after opening a downloaded HTML file
Enable file-URL access in the extension’s Details page, reopen the file, and test again. Keep this permission off for extensions that do not need to process local files.
A repeatable decision path
- Does the extension appear and show as enabled? If not, correct the installation or enable it at
chrome://extensions. - Is the page a local file or incognito tab? Enable the corresponding context access, because each setting is separate.
- Does one ordinary link copy? If no, check
clipboardWriteand site or enterprise clipboard rules. If yes, continue. - Does the same test work on another website? If no, inspect the affected site’s permission or ask an administrator about policy. If yes, continue.
- Does a smaller highlighted selection work? If yes, the original selection or extraction method was the issue. If no, replace or troubleshoot the extension itself.
Prevent the problem from returning
- Keep a known-good one-link test page or ordinary website for quickly separating extension failures from site restrictions.
- When an extension update changes its permissions or workflow, reread its current listing before changing browser-wide settings.
- Use the narrowest access settings that support your work: enable file URLs only for local files and incognito access only when needed.
- Paste test results into plain text when diagnosing; this reveals whether the clipboard contains URLs, formatted links, or nothing.
- Record whether a failure occurs in a personal or managed profile. That detail determines whether you can fix it locally or need an administrator.
When to stop changing settings
If a managed policy denies clipboard access, repeatedly toggling the extension will not solve the problem. Likewise, if the extension lacks the capability its documented workflow requires, changing a site’s permission cannot add that capability. At that point, use an extension whose current workflow and permissions match your context, or ask the administrator to review the relevant clipboard rule.

Can Chrome copy several URLs without an extension?

First isolate the fault with a one-link test, a plain-text paste, and a second website. If the extension remains the problem, compare current selection method, permissions, context support, privacy disclosures, maintenance activity, and whether it only copies or also opens URLs.
