If your Skullcandy headphones will not pair, first identify the exact model, confirm that it powers on and has charge, then follow that model’s official pairing or reset procedure. Skullcandy does not publish one button sequence that is safe to apply to every headphone. A sequence for one model can fail—or trigger the wrong function—on another.
Use the troubleshooting path below to separate a charging fault from a Bluetooth fault, clear a stale connection on your phone or computer, and know when the correct next step is the model-specific Skullcandy guide or Support team.
Why Skullcandy pairing instructions are model-specific
“Skullcandy headphones” describes many product families with different controls and firmware. The control that starts pairing, clears stored devices, or performs a reset is therefore not universal. A Crusher VRA quick-start guide, for example, documents pairing-mode information for that model; it does not establish a button sequence for Hesh, Riff, Grind, Indy, or any other product.

Start with a five-minute diagnosis
Before changing Bluetooth settings, establish what kind of failure you have. The symptoms below lead to different checks.

Step 1: identify the exact Skullcandy model
Read the model name printed on the headband, earcup, charging case, product label, box, receipt, or original quick-start material. Record the complete name, including words such as “Wireless,” “ANC,” “Evo,” or a generation number. Similar-looking products can have different controls, so “Crusher” or “Hesh” alone may not be specific enough.
Use the model name, not only the appearance
Do not select instructions because a photograph looks similar. The correct guide is the one whose title matches your complete model name. If you have the Skullcandy app, its registration or product page can help identify whether the product is among the models supported by the app. Skullcandy’s registration material says products not listed there are not app-compatible; that status does not mean the headphones cannot use ordinary Bluetooth.

Keep the guide open while troubleshooting
Pairing mode, clearing a saved device, and resetting are separate operations on many products. The official guide for your model is the authority for which control to use and how long to use it. The available Crusher VRA guide evidence confirms that pairing information is supplied at the model level, not as a universal Skullcandy instruction.

Step 2: prove that the headphones have power and charge
Bluetooth troubleshooting is premature if the headset cannot stay powered. Turn the headphones on using the control identified in the exact model guide. If there is no response, treat the problem as a power or charging issue first.
Hesh 2 Wireless charging checks
Skullcandy’s Hesh 2 Wireless troubleshooting guidance is specific to that model. It recommends allowing time for charging to begin, checking the charging port for debris, making sure the cable is fully seated, and using a charging source within the output stated in that article. Work through those checks before diagnosing Bluetooth on a Hesh 2 Wireless.
Those Hesh 2 instructions are not proof of a universal fix for every Skullcandy product. Ports, charging requirements, indicators, and cable arrangements can differ. For another model, use its own manual or Skullcandy Support for the stated charging requirements rather than transferring Hesh 2 specifications.
Separate “will not charge” from “will not pair”
- If the headset does not power on after an appropriate charging attempt, continue with charging and model support; Bluetooth settings cannot repair a missing power source.
- If it powers on reliably but is absent from the Bluetooth list, move to the model’s pairing-mode procedure.
- If it powers on and appears in the list but refuses to connect, clear the host’s old record and start a new pairing attempt.
Step 3: remove stale Bluetooth records on the phone or computer
A host device can retain an old key for the headphones even after the headset has been reset or paired with another device. A clean pairing attempt is often easier than repeatedly selecting the same failed record.

- Open the Bluetooth settings on the phone, tablet, or computer you want to use.
- Find the saved Skullcandy entry. It may show the product name, a shortened model name, or a previous custom name.
- Choose the operating system’s option to forget, remove, or unpair that entry. The label varies by platform.
- Temporarily stop Bluetooth on other nearby devices that have previously used the headphones, or move those devices away while you test. This keeps the test limited to one host.
- Turn Bluetooth back on for the target host and leave its device list visible.
These host-side steps do not replace the model-specific pairing procedure. After removing the old record, put the headphones into pairing mode exactly as the official guide describes.
Step 4: use the exact model’s pairing-mode procedure
With the host ready and the headphones powered, follow the pairing-mode section of the matching Skullcandy guide. Do not infer pairing mode from an LED color or from a control layout shown for another model. The guide should tell you which control starts discovery and what indication to expect for that product.
If the headphones never appear
- Confirm that you are using the complete model name and its guide.
- Repeat the guide’s pairing-mode procedure from the beginning, with the headphones close to the host.
- Check that another previously paired device is not immediately taking the connection.
- Try the same model-specific procedure with one different host device. This distinguishes a headset-side issue from a problem in the original phone or computer.
If the exact guide does not explain how to enter pairing mode, contact Skullcandy Support with the model name and the symptoms. Do not substitute a sequence from a related product.

When the model is visibly in pairing mode, select its entry on the target host and wait for the operating system to report a completed connection. Keep the test simple: use one host, do not launch multiple connection attempts, and verify that the audio output has switched to the headphones.

If the entry appears but connection fails
- Remove the saved entry again on the host.
- Ensure the headphones are not actively connected to another nearby device.
- Restart the host device if it continues to display the old status after removal.
- Use the exact model guide to re-enter pairing mode, then select the newly discovered entry once.
If a second host can pair successfully, the first host’s Bluetooth record or operating-system state is the likely point of failure. If no host can pair after the model procedure and the headphones are charged, the model guide and Skullcandy Support are the appropriate next authorities.
When the connection drops after pairing
A successful initial pairing proves only that the devices exchanged credentials; it does not identify why a later connection drops. Start by testing with one host device and by preventing other previously paired devices from attempting to reconnect. Then remove the saved record and perform a clean pairing using the model guide.
Do not assume that every Skullcandy model supports the same number of simultaneous connections or automatic switching. If the guide does not document multipoint or switching behavior for your model, treat one-host testing as the reliable diagnostic condition.
When the Skullcandy app cannot find the headphones
App discovery and ordinary Bluetooth audio are separate questions. First establish whether the headphones can pair through the operating system. Then check Skullcandy’s product registration or compatibility list for the exact model. That page names the products supported by the app and states that products not listed are not app-compatible.

- Bluetooth works, app does not: verify the model’s app-compatibility status before changing pairing settings.
- Neither Bluetooth nor the app works: return to power, charging, and the model’s pairing-mode instructions.
- You cannot identify the model: locate the printed product name or contact Support; do not register a similar-looking product.
Resetting: use only the documented model procedure
A reset can erase stored connections, but the action is not standardized across Skullcandy headphones. Some products use one control, some use a combination, and the required timing can differ. Because an incorrect sequence may perform another function, do not publish or follow a generic “hold these buttons” recipe.
Use the reset section of the exact model’s official guide. Before resetting, remove the old Bluetooth entry from the host so the next pairing starts with a clean record. After the reset completes, follow the same guide’s pairing procedure and add the headphones as a new device.
Common mistakes that prolong pairing problems
- Using a neighboring model’s instructions: similar names and earcup layouts do not guarantee identical controls.
- Diagnosing Bluetooth before charging: a headset that cannot remain powered cannot complete pairing.
- Treating Hesh 2 charging advice as universal: those checks are documented for Hesh 2 Wireless, not every Skullcandy product.
- Leaving several hosts active: another phone or computer may reclaim a saved connection while you are testing.
- Repeating a stale host entry: remove the old record and create a fresh pairing attempt.
- Expecting app support on every model: use the official compatibility list; unlisted products are not established as app-compatible.
- Guessing from LED colors: indicators and meanings vary by model, so use the exact guide.
A practical decision path
- Find the complete model name. If you cannot, identify it from the product label or ask Skullcandy Support.
- Check power. If it does not turn on, follow charging guidance before Bluetooth troubleshooting.
- For Hesh 2 Wireless, allow charging to begin, inspect the port for debris, seat the cable, and use the output specified in Skullcandy’s Hesh 2 article.
- Prepare one host. Remove the old Skullcandy Bluetooth entry and prevent other nearby devices from connecting.
- Enter pairing mode using the matching official guide. Do not use another model’s sequence.
- Pair once. If it fails, repeat after removing the host record rather than stacking more connection attempts.
- Escalate with precise information. Tell Support the exact model, whether it powers on, whether it charges, whether it appears in Bluetooth, and what happens when you select it.
What to tell Skullcandy Support
Support can work faster when the report separates the symptom from the attempted remedy. Include:
- the complete model name and any generation or edition marking;
- whether the headphones power on and remain powered;
- whether charging begins, and any visible port or cable problem;
- the phone or computer operating system used for testing;
- whether the model appears in Bluetooth discovery;
- whether the host shows an old saved entry or a new one;
- whether another host was tested after removing the old record; and
- the exact step at which the process fails.
This information lets Support provide the correct pairing or reset sequence instead of sending instructions for a different product.
When the problem is probably not a Bluetooth setting
If the exact model is charged, follows its documented pairing procedure, fails with more than one host, and cannot maintain power, the remaining issue may require model-specific service rather than more changes in the phone’s Bluetooth menu. Do not buy a replacement accessory or adapter as a presumed fix: no such product is established as a remedy across Skullcandy models. Use the model guide and Skullcandy Support to determine the next service option.
