First identify how you’re trying to play Bloodborne on Steam Deck: through a community local setup such as DeckBorne/ShadPS4 or bbport, or by streaming from a PlayStation with Remote Play. These routes have different requirements and failure points. If the Deck itself or ordinary Steam applications are unstable, start with Valve’s general system checks; if only one community setup fails, follow that project’s own instructions.
Identify which Bloodborne setup is failing
A Steam Library entry or non-Steam shortcut does not necessarily mean Bloodborne is installed as a standard Steam game. It may launch an emulator, a community implementation, or a streaming client. Diagnose the component behind the shortcut before changing graphics or system settings.
| How you play | What to check first | Where the guidance comes from |
|---|---|---|
| DeckBorne/ShadPS4 local setup | Installation route, user-provided game files, v1.09 update, profile requirements, and available internal storage | DeckBorne README |
| bbport local implementation | Current release instructions, the required game dump and version, and Deck-specific output guidance | bbport releases |
| Remote Play from PS4 or PS5 | Console setup, account, network connection, and Wi-Fi conditions | PlayStation Remote Play troubleshooting |
| SteamOS or other Steam applications are also unstable | System updates, restart, and third-party applications installed through Desktop Mode | Steam Support |
These are distinct methods, not interchangeable settings. Local community setups run on the Deck and depend on their own software and game-file requirements; Remote Play streams from a console and depends on that console and the network. The available guidance does not establish a measured performance ranking across these routes.
If the Deck or Steam apps are unstable
Use Valve’s device-level troubleshooting when instability affects Steam applications generally, not as a substitute for a project-specific emulator fix.

- If Steam applications remain unstable, exit or disable third-party applications installed through Desktop Mode, restart, and retest.
- If the problem continues after updating and restarting, Valve says trying the Steam Deck Beta may help; contact Steam Support if instability persists.
These checks can help separate a system-wide issue from a Bloodborne setup problem. They do not establish that an unofficial emulator or local implementation is supported or certified by Valve.
If DeckBorne or ShadPS4 will not launch
DeckBorne is a community setup with its own installer, profiles, and requirements. Check its current README against the exact route and profile you used; its maintainer documentation can change as the project and emulator are updated.
Rank #2
- High-speed USB 3.0 performance of up to 150MB/s(1) [(1) Write to drive up to 15x faster than standard USB 2.0 drives (4MB/s); varies by drive capacity. Up to 150MB/s read speed. USB 3.0 port required. Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device, usage conditions, and other factors; 1MB=1,000,000 bytes]
- Transfer a full-length movie in less than 30 seconds(2) [(2) Based on 1.2GB MPEG-4 video transfer with USB 3.0 host device. Results may vary based on host device, file attributes and other factors]
- Transfer to drive up to 15 times faster than standard USB 2.0 drives(1)

Confirm the prerequisites and installation route
- The README requires Bloodborne files supplied by the user and the v1.09 update. DeckBorne says it does not provide or link the game files.
- It lists at least 33 GB of internal storage and an internet connection to download ShadPS4 and patches.
- Its USB transfer method calls for a 64 GB USB stick. That requirement applies to this transfer method, not to every Steam Deck installation.
- The README describes both transferring files by USB and installing from SteamOS Desktop Mode when the necessary files are already on the Deck. Follow the current project instructions for the route you chose rather than mixing steps from different methods.
Check the profile’s patch and mod requirements
The project documents Deck-oriented 30 FPS/800p and 60 FPS/800p profiles, plus a 60 FPS/1080p desktop profile. The DeckBorne profile requires mods: the README warns that its 30 FPS++ and 60 FPS++ patches can cause character-face distortion, and specifies a vertex-explosion fix mod. Do not select those patch profiles unless you have met the mod requirements in the project instructions.
The README also says LCD-model validation needs more testing. Its profile notes are maintainer guidance, not a guarantee that a given configuration will launch or perform consistently on every Deck.

If bbport will not launch or runs poorly
bbport is a separate Linux implementation with its own Steam Deck directions; do not apply its notes as though they were general ShadPS4 settings. The release page describes an AppImage for desktop Linux and Steam Deck, and requires a user-provided dump of Bloodborne CUSA03173 v1.09. The game files are not included.
- Compare your game dump and version with the release page’s requirement.
- For Steam Deck, the maintainer recommends FSR 3 and 1280×720 output. This is project guidance, not a published performance benchmark.
- The release notes describe a new memory model as experimental, off by default, and potentially crash-prone; they also say it does not work properly on NVIDIA. If you enabled it and now encounter crashes, consult the release notes and consider returning to the documented default.
Check the current bbport release notes before changing settings: these instructions refer to the project’s documented releases and may change.
Rank #4
- Transfer speeds up to 10x faster than standard USB 2.0 drives (4MB/s); up to 130MB/s read speed; USB 3.0 port required. Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending upon host device. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes
- Backward compatible with USB 2.0
- Secure file encryption and password protection(2)
If Remote Play will not connect or is laggy
When Bloodborne is streaming from a PlayStation, troubleshoot the console and connection before changing local emulator graphics settings. Sony’s Remote Play guidance says the console must be online, have Remote Play enabled, have current system software, and use the same account as the Remote Play device. For PS4, the console must also be activated as the primary console.

- Sony Interactive Entertainment lists 5 Mbps upload and download as the minimum connection speed, and recommends 15 Mbps or more in both directions for best performance. The support page does not state a publication year. These are network-speed recommendations, not Bloodborne frame-rate figures.
- Check the Wi-Fi connection, pause downloads on other devices, and try a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network if available.
- Keep the console connected to the internet while it is on or in rest mode, as appropriate for your setup.
Sony notes that some games or controller features may not work through Remote Play, so streaming may not behave exactly like playing directly on the console.

Use the symptom to choose the next step
- The shortcut does nothing: determine what it is configured to launch, then check that route’s installation or connection prerequisites.
- The whole Deck or multiple Steam apps are unstable: use Valve’s update, restart, and third-party-app checks.
- A DeckBorne profile starts but has visual corruption: check the required fix mod and patch guidance in the README before changing other settings.
- bbport crashes after a setting change: check whether the experimental memory model was enabled and consult the release notes.
- Remote Play stutters or disconnects: check console setup and network conditions, including the speed guidance above.
If the relevant project’s prerequisites are met and the same issue continues, use that project’s current release or setup documentation for the next step. A general SteamOS reset or unrelated graphics tweak is not established as a fix for a project-specific failure.
