To make a 7 Days to Die Blood Moon occur on an exact schedule, set BloodMoonRange to 0 and set BloodMoonFrequency to the interval you want. For a Blood Moon every seven in-game days, use a frequency of 7. On older servers these values are XML properties; on newer V3.x servers, the rules are managed through SandboxCode or the supported setgamepref workflow.
The settings that control Blood Moon timing
Blood Moon timing is controlled by three separate settings. Only two determine the event day.

The direct fix for a moving event day is therefore BloodMoonRange=0, not a change to BloodMoonWarning. Set the frequency separately to the number of in-game days you want between events.
Why the Blood Moon moves to a different day
BloodMoonFrequency is the base interval. A nonzero BloodMoonRange allows the game to postpone the event beyond that interval. The calculation is relative to the previous Blood Moon, rather than permanently anchored to calendar days.

Example: frequency 7, range 1
With a frequency of 7 and a range of 1, the next Blood Moon can occur seven or eight days after the last one. If it occurs on day 8, the following event is calculated from day 8, so it can fall on day 15 or 16. A late event consequently moves the next possible window forward as well.
Example: frequency 7, range 0
With frequency 7 and range 0, every event is exactly seven in-game days after the preceding event. If the previous Blood Moon was on day 42, the next one is scheduled for day 49; it is not randomly selected from a wider window.

The game uses the most recent Blood Moon as its reference point.
Confirm the server version and the file it actually loads
Do not edit a file merely because its name resembles the server configuration. The dedicated-server launch command can select a different XML file with -configfile=..., and a host control panel may select a particular world or profile behind the scenes. An edit to an unused file has no effect.

- Identify the running game version. Record whether the server is on a legacy release or a newer V3.x release. The configuration method differs between those branches.
- Inspect the launch command or host panel. Find the path supplied to
-configfile=..., or the panel field that names the active world and configuration. Treat that location as authoritative. - Back up the active configuration. Keep a copy of the file or export the current sandbox settings before changing values. This gives you a known rollback point if another world is loaded accidentally.
- Choose a safe update method. Stop the server before editing a file unless your host explicitly supports live setting changes. A live update is safe only when the host documents it for that setting.
Change the values on legacy servers
Older releases that still read the classic properties use XML entries in the active server configuration.
Set an exact seven-day cycle
- Stop the server, or use the host’s supported configuration editor.
- Open the XML file selected by the launch command or host panel.
- Set the two Blood Moon properties to these values:

<property name="BloodMoonRange" value="0" />- Save the file without changing the property names or XML structure.
- Start or restart the server if the host requires a restart for configuration changes.
- Note the day of the next Blood Moon and compare the following event with the previous event day. The interval should be seven in-game days.
Use a different exact interval
Replace the frequency value with the interval you want. For example, frequency 14 and range 0 produces an exact fourteen-day interval. The frequency determines the interval; range 0 removes the allowed delay.

When an XML edit appears to do nothing
First check that the edited file is the one named by -configfile=.... Then verify that the server is actually running a legacy version that reads these properties. On a V3.x server, adding or changing old XML properties may be ignored because the gameplay rules have moved to the sandbox settings.
Change the values on newer V3.x servers
In newer V3.x versions, Blood Moon frequency and related gameplay rules were moved out of the old property list and into SandboxCode. Use the host’s SandboxCode editor or the game’s documented setgamepref method instead of adding obsolete XML entries.

Using a SandboxCode editor
- Open the world or server’s
SandboxCodesettings in the control panel or configuration interface. - Locate the Blood Moon frequency and range options.
- Set frequency to
7and range to0for an exact seven-day cycle. - Save or apply the sandbox configuration.
- Restart the server when the host requires it, then record the next event day.
Using the server console
If the server exposes the documented setgamepref command, set the two preferences through the console using the game’s key-value syntax:
setgamepref BloodMoonFrequency 7
setgamepref BloodMoonRange 0Use the console only when it is enabled for your server and the command is accepted by the running version. If the command is rejected, return to the host’s V3.x SandboxCode editor rather than inserting legacy XML properties into an unrelated file.

There is no universal restart requirement for every host. Some panels apply supported live changes; others load gameplay preferences only when the world or server starts. Follow the host’s documented apply or restart workflow.
- Apply the setting through the supported editor or console.
- Restart the server if the host says the setting is read at startup, or if the running server does not acknowledge the update.
- Write down the day on which the last Blood Moon actually occurred.
- Observe the next event relative to that day. With frequency
7and range0, the next event should be seven in-game days later. - If the next event still varies, recheck the active version, configuration target, frequency, and range before changing any warning settings.
Changing the setting does not retroactively move a Blood Moon that has already occurred. The reliable test is the interval from the most recent event after the new preference has been applied.

Do not confuse the red warning indicator with the event day
BloodMoonWarning controls the hour when the HUD day number turns red. It does not select the day on which the horde arrives. A red indicator at an apparently unexpected time can therefore indicate only a warning-hour setting, not a frequency or range problem.
Leave the warning setting unchanged while diagnosing event timing. Once the event interval is correct, adjust the warning hour separately if you want the indicator to appear earlier or later. Set BloodMoonWarning to -1 only if you want to hide the red indicator entirely.

Disable the event
Set BloodMoonFrequency to 0. This disables Blood Moons; it is independent of the warning indicator.
Keep Blood Moons but hide the red indicator
Set BloodMoonWarning to -1. Blood Moons continue to use the frequency and range values, but the HUD warning is hidden.

Keep the event and warning while removing variance
Use your desired positive frequency and set BloodMoonRange to 0. This is the combination for a predictable cycle.
Troubleshoot by symptom
The event occurs on day 7 or 8 even though frequency is 7
A range of 1 or another nonzero value is still active. Set BloodMoonRange to 0 in the configuration system used by your server, then apply the change. Check both fields; changing frequency alone does not remove variance.

This is the normal relative calculation when range is nonzero. The next window starts from the late Blood Moon, not from the original calendar target. Set range to 0 if you need the interval to remain exact from event to event.
The red day number changed, but the horde schedule did not
You changed BloodMoonWarning, which affects only the warning hour. Restore the desired warning value and change frequency or range for the actual event schedule.
The XML contains the right values, but the game behaves as before
- Confirm the running version. V3.x servers may no longer read the old properties.
- Confirm the file named by
-configfile=...or the world selected in the host panel. - Check whether the host requires a restart or an explicit Apply action.
- Look for a separate SandboxCode editor that overrides legacy XML values.
The console command is rejected
The command may not be available on that release, may require administrator access, or may use the host’s own wrapper. Use the documented command format for the installed version or make the change through the V3.x SandboxCode interface. Do not assume that a command accepted on one release is valid on another.
Different players report different dates
Verify that everyone is connected to the same world and server instance. A correct edit in one profile does not change another world selected by the host panel. Compare the active world, launch configuration, and server version before testing again.

Final verification checklist
- The server version is known and matches the configuration method being used.
- The edited file is the one selected by
-configfile=..., or the correct world is selected in the host panel. BloodMoonFrequencycontains the intended interval.BloodMoonRangeis0when no day variance is wanted.BloodMoonWarningis being treated only as a HUD warning-hour setting.- The host’s required Apply or restart action has been completed.
- The next interval is measured from the previous actual Blood Moon, not from an older calendar expectation.
