Fix Black Ops 7 problems in this order: check Activision’s server status, verify that your PC meets the game’s current requirements, install a supported graphics driver, remove overlay and recording conflicts, then isolate your home network. Stutter usually points to rendering load or an overloaded system; a crash is more often a software, driver, heat, or compatibility conflict; packet-burst warnings indicate unstable latency or packet loss rather than one universal setting.

The sequence below is designed to tell you when to stop changing the PC and wait for a service issue, when a setting change is reversible, and when the evidence belongs with your internet provider or Activision support.

Start with a symptom-based triage

Do not apply every proposed fix at once. Change one variable, reproduce the problem in the same mode, and note whether the result changed. This prevents a network problem from being mistaken for a graphics problem and makes an eventual support report much more useful.

What you see Most likely area to check first First action
Regular hitching, uneven frame pacing, or brief freezes while the game remains playable PC rendering load, graphics driver, heat, or background software Verify requirements and driver, then close overlays and other recording or input tools
The game closes to desktop, fails during launch, or crashes after entering a match Driver, unsupported hardware or Windows configuration, heat, or conflicting software Check requirements, update the driver, and remove overlay and remapping conflicts
Packet-burst warning, rubber-banding, delayed hit registration, or sudden ping spikes Home network, internet path, or an Activision service incident Check server status, switch to Ethernet, and stop competing traffic
Several players or platforms fail at the same time Activision or platform service Wait for the service alert to clear before changing local settings

A packet-burst warning and a low average frame rate can occur together, but they have different causes. A local frame-time problem changes how quickly your PC draws the image; packet loss or latency changes how quickly game data reaches it.

Check Activision server status before changing your PC

Open Activision’s online-services status page and check the indicator for your platform. If the indicator is not green or an alert is displayed, connectivity problems may continue until the service is restored. Local driver, router, and graphics changes cannot repair an outage.

If the indicator is green, continue with the local checks below. Recheck the status page when a problem begins suddenly after previously normal play, especially if another player on a different connection reports the same behavior. Record the time and the alert text; that information distinguishes a service event from a fault in your own network.

Confirm that your PC is ready for Black Ops 7

Activision’s 2026 requirements distinguish the minimum configuration from a recommended configuration intended for a 60-FPS target. The game also has platform-level requirements that are easy to miss when only the graphics card is checked.

Component Minimum Recommended for 60 FPS Competitive or ultra 4K guidance
Operating system Windows 10 64-bit Windows 11 Not separately stated

Graphics processor AMD Radeon RX 470, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or GTX 1060, or Intel Arc A580 AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, or Intel Arc B580 Not separately stated
Video memory 3 GB VRAM 8 GB VRAM 12 GB VRAM
Storage SSD with 116 GB available SSD with 116 GB available Not separately stated
Frame-rate target Not stated 60 FPS Not separately stated

Activision also lists TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, DirectX 12 compatibility, broadband internet, and an AVX-capable Intel or AMD processor as requirements. Meeting the minimum graphics-card name alone is therefore not enough if one of those platform checks fails.

How to check the common blockers in Windows

  1. Check Windows edition and architecture: open Settings → System → About and confirm that Windows is 64-bit. The requirements page lists Windows 10 64-bit as the minimum and Windows 11 for the recommended configuration.
  2. Check memory and processor: in the same page, compare installed RAM and CPU model with the table. If physical memory is below the minimum, close applications before testing; if the processor is below the listed requirement, software tweaks are unlikely to create a stable 60-FPS experience.
  3. Check the graphics adapter and VRAM: open Settings → System → Display → Advanced display, or use Task Manager → Performance → GPU, and compare the adapter and dedicated video memory with the table.
  4. Check the system drive: in File Explorer → This PC, confirm that the SSD containing the installation has at least the required free space. This is a readiness requirement, not a guaranteed cure for stutter.
  5. Check security and API prerequisites: verify TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot in your firmware or Windows security tools, and confirm that the graphics device supports DirectX 12. Do not disable Secure Boot or TPM to work around a launch problem; they are listed requirements.
  6. Confirm AVX support: the processor must support AVX. If the CPU is too old to provide it, changing graphics settings will not resolve a launch failure.

Activision lists 16 GB of RAM and 12 GB of VRAM for competitive or ultra-4K use. Those figures are guidance for that workload, not a promise that every PC with those parts will maintain a particular frame rate.

Update the graphics driver before deeper troubleshooting

Driver problems can affect both frame pacing and crashes. Use the driver supplied by your GPU manufacturer, install it for the correct desktop or notebook product, and restart Windows before testing again.

The driver versions shown on Activision’s checked requirements page were AMD 25.12.1, NVIDIA desktop/notebook 591.59, NVIDIA workstation 582.08, and Intel 32.0.101.8531. These numbers are volatile: treat them as the versions listed at the time of that page’s 2026 check, not as permanent requirements. Recheck Activision’s current requirements page and the manufacturer’s release notes before deciding that a newer driver is unsupported.

A clean, controlled driver test

  1. Close Black Ops 7 and any launcher windows.
  2. Download the current driver for the exact GPU model and Windows edition from the GPU manufacturer.
  3. Install the driver, choosing the installer’s clean or reset option only if a normal update does not resolve the issue. A clean installation removes existing graphics-profile changes, so note any custom settings first.
  4. Restart Windows.
  5. Run the same map or mode that exposed the problem and compare stutter, crash timing, and frame pacing with your previous test.

If a driver update introduces a new crash, record the driver version and the date. Do not repeatedly install unrelated versions without recording which one was active; that makes the eventual crash report harder to diagnose.

How do I fix Black Ops 7 stuttering on PC?

Work through the rendering-side causes in a reversible order. The goal is to establish whether the hitch is caused by system contention, heat, a driver, or a workload that exceeds the PC’s capabilities.

1. Close background applications and capture tools

Before launching the game, close browsers with many active tabs, video editors, hardware-monitoring utilities that hook into games, and any download or synchronization job. Activision specifically advises closing background applications when troubleshooting crashes and performance. A recording application can consume CPU, GPU, memory, or storage bandwidth even when its window is hidden.

Test once with overlays, recording tools, and input-remapping software disabled or uninstalled. This includes overlays supplied by game launchers, voice or chat applications, GPU utilities, and controller or keyboard remappers. Restore them one at a time after a clean test so you can identify the conflicting program instead of leaving every feature disabled permanently.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Check temperature and airflow

Run a monitored test while the stutter occurs and look for unusual CPU or GPU temperature behavior, fan stoppage, or a sudden drop in clock speed. Keep vents clear, make sure fans spin, and avoid testing inside a confined space. Activision’s guidance is to keep the PC cool; it does not establish a specific temperature threshold or require replacing thermal paste.

If the problem appears only after several minutes, worsens as the system heats, or disappears after a cooldown, treat heat as a lead. Capture the temperature and clock behavior for support rather than guessing that a particular component needs replacement.

3. Match the workload to the hardware tier

Compare your processor, GPU, RAM, VRAM, and SSD space with the requirements table. A machine below the recommended tier may run the game but still produce uneven frame times when background tasks, high-resolution assets, or recording are added. A machine below the minimum tier is not a good candidate for a stable software-only fix.

Ideal for low-latency gaming, 4K/8K streaming, and high-speed internet connections.
  • RJ45 Connectors & Wide Compatibility: Cat8 Ethernet cable with two shielded RJ45 connectors; compatible with networking switches, IP cameras, routers, Nintendo Switch, modems, PS3, PS4, Xbox, patch panels, servers, smart TVs, and more; works with Cat7, Cat6, Cat5e, and Cat5 devices
  • Weatherproof & UV Resistant: Outdoor-rated Cat8 Ethernet cable with UV-resistant PVC jacket; withstands direct sunlight, extreme cold, humidity, and hot weather; anti-aging and durable; Includes 18-month support.

Use the game’s performance indicator or an external frame-time graph consistently between tests. A stable but lower frame rate is a rendering-capacity issue; sudden spikes with otherwise adequate average performance point more strongly toward a driver, background process, or heat event.

4. Change one graphics variable at a time

When your hardware meets the requirements, reduce the most demanding in-game options gradually and retest the same scene. Keep a written note of each change and its result. Do not alter graphics settings, driver versions, overlays, and Windows power settings simultaneously: you will not know which change helped, and an unstable setting can be difficult to reverse.

The 60-FPS recommended configuration is a target, not a guarantee for every scene or display. If the PC cannot hold that target, prioritize consistent frame pacing over a higher peak number and avoid adding a recorder or overlay until the base game is stable.

Why does Black Ops 7 keep crashing on PC?

A crash can happen at launch, while compiling or loading, or during a match. Use the same staged approach for each location, because a crash that occurs before the main menu has a different evidence trail from one that follows a period of heat or network activity.

Launch or menu crashes

  • Confirm the operating-system, TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, DirectX 12, AVX, RAM, VRAM, and SSD requirements.
  • Install the current graphics driver and restart Windows.
  • Disable or uninstall overlays, recording tools, and input-remapping software before the next launch.
  • Close background applications so the launcher and game have uncontested memory and CPU time.

If the game still fails before you can enter a match, note the exact stage, error text, Windows version, GPU model, driver version, and whether the failure occurs every time. That information is more valuable than repeatedly relaunching with different undocumented registry edits.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Crashes after playing for a while

Check for heat buildup and background software that starts recording or synchronizing after a delay. Reproduce the issue with overlays and capture tools disabled. If the crash disappears, re-enable those programs individually; the first one that restores the crash is the likely conflict.

If the PC itself restarts, displays a blue screen, or loses power, treat that as a system stability problem rather than an ordinary game crash. Preserve the Windows error details and hardware temperatures and address the system fault before repeatedly launching the game.

How do I stop packet burst in BO7?

Activision discusses packet burst through latency, ping, and packet loss rather than promising one universal “packet-burst fix.” The practical objective is a steady path between your PC, router, internet provider, and the game service.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

1. Check whether the service is at fault

Check the Activision status indicator first. A non-green indicator or active alert can produce network symptoms that remain until service is restored. If the indicator is green, continue with the home-network tests and keep the time of each test.

2. Use wired Ethernet

Connect the gaming PC directly to the router with Ethernet, bypassing Wi-Fi for the test. Activision states: “We strongly recommend using a wired Ethernet connection during online gameplay.” A wired test does not prove that the ISP path is healthy, but it removes wireless interference and signal variation from the local segment.

If Ethernet is impossible, test from the same room as the access point, reduce competing wireless traffic, and compare several matches rather than one short sample. Do not present a Wi-Fi change as a guaranteed cure; it only isolates one possible source of loss or jitter.

3. Stop competing bandwidth use

Pause large downloads, cloud backups, game updates, video streams, and other uploads while playing. Ask other household users to pause sustained transfers during the test. A fast internet plan can still show packet loss or queueing when the local connection is saturated.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Restart the router and test again

  1. Exit the game.
  2. Power off the router using its normal control or unplug it.
  3. Wait for it to finish shutting down, then power it back on.
  4. Wait until its internet connection is restored.
  5. Reconnect the PC by Ethernet and run the same game mode.

A restart can clear a temporary router state, but it is not a permanent answer if packet burst returns whenever the connection is busy.

5. Enable QoS when the router supports it

Quality-of-service controls can prioritize interactive game traffic on a congested home network. Enable QoS according to the router’s documentation, then test with one change at a time. Activision notes that some routers specialize in reducing lag but does not endorse a particular model. QoS cannot repair an outage, damaged cable, or packet loss occurring beyond your home.

6. Decide whether the ISP is involved

If packet loss or severe latency continues over Ethernet with competing traffic stopped, record several times of day, the game mode, and whether other internet services are affected. Contact your internet service provider with that evidence. Ask the ISP to check the line and modem or router signal rather than asking for a game-specific registry tweak.

Do not treat disabling IPv6, changing registry values, replacing thermal paste, or buying a particular router as an Activision-verified packet-burst fix. Those actions are not established by Activision’s support guidance and can introduce new problems.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A complete troubleshooting sequence

Use this order when you want one controlled pass instead of isolated tips:

  1. Record the symptom: write down whether the issue is frame-time stutter, a crash, packet burst, or a combination; note when it starts and whether it is repeatable.
  2. Check service status: stop if Activision shows an alert or a non-green platform indicator.
  3. Verify readiness: compare Windows, CPU, RAM, GPU, VRAM, SSD space, TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, DirectX 12, broadband, and AVX against the requirements.
  4. Update the GPU driver: use the current manufacturer package and restart Windows.
  5. Remove conflicts: close background applications and disable overlays, recording tools, and input remappers.
  6. Check cooling: monitor temperature and clock behavior during the same reproducible test.
  7. Isolate the network: use Ethernet, stop heavy traffic, restart the router, and enable QoS if supported.
  8. Retest consistently: use the same map, mode, and approximate session length so the comparison is meaningful.
  9. Escalate with evidence: consult the known-issues tracker, submit the PC Crash Report for an unlisted persistent crash, or contact the ISP for continuing network loss.

Choose the remedy that matches the symptom

Remedy Symptom addressed Reversible? Cost Where it acts
Check Activision service status Widespread connection failures and alerts Yes; informational None Activision service
Meet the SSD and hardware requirements Launch failures or performance below the supported tier Hardware changes are not instantly reversible May require hardware Gaming PC
Update the graphics driver Stutter, launch crashes, and graphics instability Usually; previous packages may be reinstallable None Gaming PC
Close or disable overlays, recorders, and remappers Boot and gameplay crashes; resource-related stutter Yes None Gaming PC software
Improve cooling and airflow Problems that worsen as the session heats up Yes for airflow changes Varies Gaming PC hardware
Ethernet connection Wi-Fi-related loss, jitter, and packet burst Yes Requires cable if you do not have one Home network
Pause heavy transfers Packet burst during congestion Yes None Home network
Router restart or QoS Temporary router state or household congestion Yes None if supported; hardware cost varies Home network
ISP investigation Loss or latency that persists beyond the home network Not applicable Depends on provider ISP path
Activision PC Crash Report Persistent crash not listed as a known issue Not applicable None Activision support

When local troubleshooting is finished

Escalate instead of making increasingly invasive changes when all of the following are true: the service indicator is green, the PC meets the listed requirements, the current driver is installed, overlays and recorders are out of the test, the PC is not overheating, and Ethernet testing still shows the same network symptom.

For an unlisted crash, send the PC Crash Report with reproducible steps and system details. For packet loss or latency that survives the Ethernet and congestion tests, contact the ISP and provide timestamps. If Activision’s known-issues tracker lists your symptom, follow its status rather than applying unrelated fixes. This evidence-based stopping point avoids turning a temporary service problem into a damaged Windows or router configuration.
