When Bing will not load, returns a blank page, shows incomplete results, or fails only from Microsoft Edge’s address bar, the cause is usually local to Edge: an outdated browser, damaged cached files, blocked cookies, an extension, or a profile setting. It can also be a network problem or a Bing outage.
Work through the checks below in order. Start with the quick tests before deleting cookies or repairing Edge.
First, identify what is failing
Try these three tests in Microsoft Edge:
- Open
https://www.bing.comdirectly. - Search for something from the address bar.
- Open the same Bing address in another browser, such as Google Chrome.
The result helps narrow down the problem:

| Bing opens directly, but address-bar searches fail | Edge’s default search-engine or address-bar setting |

| Bing loads but results or features are missing | SafeSearch, blocked cookies, content filtering, or a page-loading problem |
1. Check the network before changing Edge
If Bing also fails in another browser, Edge is probably not the root cause. Restart your modem or router, reconnect to Wi-Fi, and try another website. If other sites also fail, resolve the Windows or network connection first.
On a slow or overloaded computer, close unnecessary Edge tabs and other applications. Pause active downloads and remove extensions you no longer need, then reload Bing. Microsoft lists insufficient system memory as one reason pages may fail to load.

Security software can also interfere with browser traffic. Make sure products such as Norton or McAfee are updated. Do not permanently disable antivirus protection just to test Bing; if necessary, use the product’s documented web-protection troubleshooting options.
2. Update Microsoft Edge
An outdated Edge installation can produce broken page layouts, failed searches, or compatibility errors.
- Select Settings and more (…) in the upper-right corner.
- Select Settings.
- Select About Microsoft Edge.
- Allow Edge to check for updates. If an update is available, follow the prompt to install it.
- Restart Edge and test Bing again.
3. Make Bing the address-bar search engine
If bing.com works when opened directly but typing a search into the address bar does not, check Edge’s search-engine setting. Bing may not appear in the list until you have used it for at least one address-bar search. The search site must also support OpenSearch.

- In Edge, perform at least one search from the address bar using Bing if possible.
- Select Settings and more (…) > Settings.
- Select Privacy, search, and services.
- Under Search and connected services, select Address bar and search.
- In Search engine used in the address bar, select Bing.
The current desktop setting is not normally under a top-level menu called “Search engine.” If you are following older instructions that stop at Privacy, search, and services > Address bar, look for the additional Search and connected services level.
4. Check address-bar suggestions separately
Search-result loading and search suggestions are different features. Bing can work normally even when suggestions do not appear while you type.
To control Edge’s suggestions, open Settings and more (…) > Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Search and connected experiences > Address bar and search. Under Search suggestions and filters, check Show me search and site suggestions using my typed characters.

Bing has its own separate setting. On Bing.com, open Settings, go to Search, and check See search suggestions as you type. This setting can vary by country or region and normally remains in effect until you change it or clear the relevant cookies.

A damaged cached script or page file can make Bing display incorrectly. Clear the browsing history and cached files first, without selecting cookies unless the less-destructive fix does not work.
Using the full Settings path:
- Select Settings and more (…) > Settings.
- Select Privacy, search, and services.
- Under Clear browsing data, select Choose what to clear next to Clear browsing data now.
- Set Time range to All time.
- Select Browsing history and Cached images and files.
- Select Clear now.
- Close and reopen Edge, then visit Bing again.
You can also open the clearing dialog with Ctrl + Shift + Delete. The shortcut does not automatically remove cookies; you still choose the data types and confirm.
For a quicker Microsoft-recommended cleanup, select Settings and more (…) > History > Open history page > Delete browsing data. Choose All time, select Browsing history and Cached images and files, and select Clear now.
6. Check cookies and delete only Bing’s site data
Bing pages and account features may not display correctly if cookies are blocked.
To allow cookies globally, go to Settings and more (…) > Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Cookies. Turn on Allow sites to save and read cookie data (recommended).

If cookies are blocked globally but you want an exception, use Cookies > Allowed to save cookies > Add site, then enter the relevant Bing URL.
You can also remove only Bing’s stored data:
- Open Settings and more (…) > Settings.
- Select Privacy, search, and services > Cookies.
- Select See all cookies and site data.
- Search for Bing or the relevant Bing site.
- Select its down arrow and choose Delete.
Reload Bing and sign in again if required. Deleting all Cookies and other site data signs you out of most websites, so deleting only Bing’s data is preferable when possible.
If Edge Sync is enabled, turn it off before clearing data only from the current computer: Settings > Profiles > Sync > Turn off sync. Otherwise, synced items may be removed from other Edge devices as well.
7. Test Bing in an InPrivate window
An InPrivate test can reveal whether the normal profile’s cookies, cache, or site permissions are involved.
- Select Settings and more (…).
- Select New InPrivate window.
- Open Bing and run a search.
InPrivate uses temporary browsing data and removes its history, cookies, site data, cached files, passwords, autofill data, and site permissions when all InPrivate windows close.
However, InPrivate does not automatically disable every extension. An extension that has permission to run in InPrivate can still interfere with Bing. If Bing works in InPrivate, open edge://extensions in a normal window and disable extensions, especially search tools, ad blockers, privacy tools, and security add-ons. Re-enable them one at a time to find the conflict.

8. Check Bing SafeSearch if results seem absent
If Bing loads but appears to omit certain results, images, or videos, SafeSearch may be filtering them rather than Bing failing.

- Open Bing.com.
- Select the global-navigation icon in the upper-right corner.
- Select Settings, then More.
- Choose Strict, Moderate, or Off.
- Select Save.
On a family-managed, school-managed, or work-managed computer, an administrator or network policy may prevent changing this setting.
9. Repair Microsoft Edge on Windows 11
Use repair when Bing remains broken in Edge after updating, clearing the relevant cache, checking cookies, and testing extensions. Microsoft says Edge repair should not affect browser data or settings.
- Close Edge windows for all users.
- Make sure you have administrator rights and an active internet connection.
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft Edge.
- Select the three-dot menu next to it and choose Modify.
- At the User Account Control prompt, select Yes.
- Select Repair and wait for the process to finish.
- Open Edge and test Bing.
If Modify is missing, your organization may have installed and managed Edge. Contact the system administrator rather than trying to replace the browser manually.

Clearing Edge’s cache, cookies, or browsing history does not necessarily erase searches stored with your Microsoft account. Browser data stored on the Windows 11 device and search or browsing data stored in Microsoft’s cloud are separate.

Edge mobile note
These instructions target Edge on Windows 11. The mobile menus are different. On Android, Microsoft lists … > Settings > Default search engine. On iPhone or iPad, the path is … > Settings > Advance settings > Search engine. Use the mobile instructions if Bing is failing in the Edge app rather than on Windows.
FAQ
Why does Bing work when I open Bing.com but not when I search from the Edge address bar?
The address-bar search engine may be set to another provider or may have an invalid setting. Go to Settings and more (…) > Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Search and connected services > Address bar and search, then select Bing under Search engine used in the address bar.
Will clearing Edge cookies delete my bookmarks and passwords?
Clearing cookies primarily removes sign-in and site-session data, but selecting other data types can remove additional browser information. It will sign you out of most websites. To limit the impact, delete only Bing’s cookies through Cookies > See all cookies and site data.

No. Extensions that you have permitted to run in InPrivate can continue running. Disable extensions separately if you want a reliable extension test.
Why is Bing showing fewer results than expected?
SafeSearch may be set to Strict or Moderate. On Bing.com, open the upper-right navigation icon > Settings > More, choose the appropriate SafeSearch level, and select Save. A family, school, work, or network policy may lock the setting.
Will repairing Edge remove my browsing data?
Microsoft states that Edge repair should not affect browser data or settings. Close Edge, then use Windows 11 Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Microsoft Edge > Modify > Repair.
The Bottom Line
Start by testing Bing in another browser, then update Edge and verify the current Search and connected services > Address bar and search setting. If Bing works directly but displays incorrectly, clear cached files, check cookies, and test without extensions. Delete cookies only when necessary because it signs you out. If the problem survives those checks, repair Edge from Windows 11’s Installed apps page; if Bing fails in every browser, troubleshoot the network or contact your administrator.
