Start with Settings > Battery > Battery optimization (or System Manager > Battery > Battery optimization), run the one-click check if your build offers it, and inspect App power consumption ranking. Manage or stop apps that are unusually high and do not need background access. If the drain began immediately after a major MagicOS upgrade, give the phone time to finish system and app optimization before judging battery life. Use Power Saving mode for urgent endurance, enable Smart Charge for charging care, and contact an HONOR-authorized service center if severe standby drain continues.
First, identify what kind of drain you have
“Battery drain” describes several different behaviors. A foldable that loses charge during long, bright-screen sessions has a different problem from one that loses a large amount overnight with the displays closed. A phone that becomes warm and drains quickly for a day after a major software update may be performing temporary maintenance rather than suffering a failing battery.
Before changing several settings, record one short baseline:

- Whether the behavior began directly after a major MagicOS update.
This record gives you a way to tell whether a change helped. It also prevents you from blaming a normal high-screen-use pattern on a background application.

Run HONOR’s built-in battery optimization
HONOR’s first-line troubleshooting step is its own battery-optimization screen. Menu names differ by model, region and MagicOS build, so use the path that appears on your phone.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Battery. On some builds, open System Manager first, then tap Battery.
- Select Battery optimization. MagicOS 9.0 and later may label the action one-click optimization.
- Run the optimization and wait for it to finish.
- Open App power consumption ranking and examine the highest entries.
The one-click action is a system check, not a replacement for examining the ranking. A high percentage is meaningful only in context: an application used for hours on the inner display can legitimately rank above an app that ran briefly in the background. Focus first on an app that is high despite little or no deliberate use, especially when the drain occurs during standby.
Manage an app that is unusually high in the ranking
For each unexpected entry, decide whether it needs to work while you are not using it. Messaging, mail, navigation, cloud synchronization and wearable-device apps may need background activity; a game, video editor or seldom-used social application often does not.

- Open the app’s entry from the battery ranking, or open its battery-management controls from the app-management screen if your build presents them separately.
- Review the available background, auto-launch or power-management choices.
- Restrict or stop the app only when delayed notifications, synchronization or location updates are acceptable.
- Use the phone normally for the same type of period you measured before, then check the ranking again.
Do not restrict every application at once. Changing many apps makes it impossible to identify the cause and can produce missed messages or stale data. If one app remains at the top after you have barely used it, install any available update for that app, restart the phone, and observe whether its ranking falls. The battery screen is the authoritative place to decide which app is consuming power on your particular foldable; generic “battery saver” lists cannot account for your usage, signal and software build.
Allow time for a major MagicOS update to settle
A large MagicOS upgrade can temporarily increase consumption and produce slight warmth. HONOR explains that the phone may adapt applications, recompile code, organize gallery content, run security scans and relearn behavior for system and AI features. Those jobs can continue after the update appears complete.

HONOR’s support guidance says optimization can continue for about 24 hours and that remaining application optimization is completed within one to two days after the upgrade. Its explanation is: “The optimization of the remaining applications is completed within 1-2 days after the upgrade, which is also the reason for fast battery drain and slight heating in the days following the upgrade.” This qualification applies to the period following a major upgrade; it is not a promise that every battery problem will resolve in two days.
Give the phone a controlled opportunity to finish:
- Install the update while the phone has adequate charge and a stable connection.
- Use the device normally during the first day, while noting unusual heat or a rapidly rising app entry.
- Charge with the screen off for about two hours, or leave it on an overnight idle charge, so background work can run without active screen use.
- Recheck standby drain and the app ranking after the 24-hour to two-day settling window.
If the phone remains hot or loses charge rapidly while idle after that window, treat the behavior as an ongoing fault rather than assuming it is still post-update optimization.
Use Power Saving mode when you need immediate endurance
Power Saving mode is a short-term control for making a low battery last longer. HONOR says it restricts background applications and visual effects, and recommends enabling it when the battery is at or below 20% if extra endurance is needed.
Turn it on from the battery controls or the phone’s Quick Settings panel, depending on your build. Expect trade-offs:
- Background synchronization can be delayed.
- Notifications may arrive later if an app is prevented from running freely.
- Visual effects may be reduced, so the interface can feel less smooth.
- Apps that depend on continuous background location or connections may not behave normally.
Power Saving mode does not identify the application responsible for drain and does not repair a battery or software fault. Use the ranking and optimization tools for diagnosis; use Power Saving mode when preserving the remaining charge matters more than unrestricted background activity.

Enable charging-care features for long-term battery health
Open Settings > Battery > More battery settings. If your model and regional software build provide them, enable Smart Charge and Smart Battery Capacity.

Smart Charge learns your charging habits and reduces the time the phone spends fully charged. That is intended to reduce charging-related battery wear. It is not an immediate fix for an application that is consuming power while the phone is idle, and it will not explain a high entry in the app ranking.
Smart Battery Capacity
Smart Battery Capacity is another charging-care feature offered on some builds. Its purpose is to manage charging behavior and preserve battery condition over time, not to stop current background activity. Availability and exact behavior can vary, so follow the description displayed on your phone.
These settings may make a phone reach or remain at 100% differently from a conventional charging routine. That is an intentional convenience-versus-wear trade-off, not evidence that the foldable is failing.
Test the refresh-rate setting only when it fits your symptoms
An HONOR Community response to a Magic V3 battery complaint suggested a model-dependent test: Display and brightness > Screen refresh rate > Standard. This is a secondary-source suggestion, not the primary HONOR troubleshooting procedure.

- Open Settings > Display and brightness.
- Tap Screen refresh rate.
- Select Standard if the option exists.
- Compare one standby period and one typical screen-on session with your earlier baseline.
A standard refresh rate can reduce smoothness, particularly while scrolling and animating. Keep it only if the measured improvement matters to you. If standby drain is unchanged, restore your preferred refresh-rate setting; changing it is not a substitute for checking the battery ranking.
Choose the remedy that matches the drain pattern

Follow a controlled troubleshooting sequence
Use this order when you want a reproducible diagnosis rather than a collection of guesses.
- Measure the symptom. Record the drain period, screen state, temperature, signal conditions and current ranking.
- Run the built-in optimization. Use the Battery optimization or System Manager path and complete one-click optimization when available.
- Investigate the ranking. Manage only the apps that are unusually high and unnecessary in the background.
- Check update timing. If a major MagicOS upgrade was recent, complete the screen-off two-hour charge or overnight idle charge and wait through the stated settling period.
- Apply temporary conservation. Turn on Power Saving mode at or below 20% when preserving charge is urgent.
- Apply charging care. Enable Smart Charge and Smart Battery Capacity if your build offers them.
- Run the optional display test. Try Standard refresh rate on a supported model only if you are willing to accept less smooth motion.
- Recheck under comparable conditions. Compare another overnight standby period or equivalent screen-on session, rather than comparing unrelated days.
- Escalate when the pattern persists. Back up important information and contact an HONOR-authorized service center.
Common mistakes that make the diagnosis harder
Changing every battery setting at once
Applying Power Saving, restricting numerous apps, changing refresh rate and disabling synchronization simultaneously may reduce consumption, but it hides the cause and can disrupt normal phone behavior. Change one class of control, measure it, then continue.
Judging an update within a few minutes
Immediately after a major upgrade, background adaptation and scanning can be the reason for warmth and rapid loss. The relevant comparison is after the stated optimization period, not during the first short session.

Treating Smart Charge as an app-drain cure
Smart Charge and Smart Battery Capacity address charging behavior and long-term wear. They do not replace the ranking review when an app is consuming power now.

Ignoring notification and synchronization costs
Restricting a high-ranking mail, messaging, navigation or cloud app can improve standby time while also delaying information you expect to receive. Decide which behavior matters before applying the restriction.
Assuming every menu is identical
HONOR changes labels and feature availability by model, region and software build. A Magic V2 and a Magic V3 can therefore show different paths or controls. Do not infer that a missing option indicates a fault; consult the support manual for the exact foldable and regional build.
Keep the system current and use the correct manual
HONOR recommends keeping the system up to date because later releases can include power-consumption improvements. Check for updates through the phone’s normal system-update screen, install them when practical, and then apply the post-update settling guidance if the update is major.
For exact labels, feature availability and model-specific behavior, use the support page and manual for your particular foldable, region and MagicOS version. This matters especially for Battery optimization, Smart Battery Capacity and refresh-rate choices, which are not present or named identically on every build.
When battery drain requires service
Arrange an HONOR-authorized inspection when severe standby drain remains after you have run optimization, reviewed the app ranking, allowed a recent major update to settle, and compared the result under similar conditions. Back up important data before service and describe the pattern precisely: when it started, how much charge was lost during a defined idle period, whether the phone was warm, and which apps ranked highest.
Do not treat a generic charger, power bank or replacement battery as a diagnosis. Persistent abnormal drain can require device-level testing that cannot be completed by toggling another setting. An authorized center can determine the appropriate next step for the specific model and region.
