Start by checking which apps are using battery, including their background activity. Then change only the settings or apps that look unusually power-hungry. ColorOS menus differ by version and phone model, and OPPO’s support guidance does not establish one cause, waiting period, or guaranteed fix for battery drain after an update.
Check which apps are using battery
Open the battery-usage screen and look for apps with unexpectedly high consumption compared with how you have actually used the phone. OPPO documents two paths:
- ColorOS 14 and above: Settings > Battery, then scroll down to Battery usage.
- ColorOS 5.1 and above: Settings > Battery > Battery usage by app.
The screen may show foreground activity—the app being visible and in use—and background activity, which happens while you are using something else or the screen is off. OPPO notes that paths and screens can differ between phones. If these labels do not match, search for “battery” in Settings or consult support information for your exact model. High foreground use may simply reflect time spent in an app. Background use may be expected for apps that sync data or deliver notifications. OPPO Support explains: “Since each application is used differently each day, the power consumption varies accordingly.”

Investigate apps with unusually high background use
If an app is using more battery in the background than its function or your usage would suggest, check whether an app update is available. You can also temporarily restrict its background activity if your phone offers that control and you are willing to accept possible delays to syncing or notifications.
Change one thing at a time, then check the battery-usage screen again. This makes it easier to tell whether the adjustment helped and to undo it if an app stops behaving as you need.

Use ColorOS power-saving controls if you need more runtime
ColorOS feature descriptions include a battery dashboard, one-tap power saving, and notifications about apps using excessive power. The exact controls and labels depend on the device and ColorOS version, so use the options actually available on your phone rather than assuming every model has the same menu. OPPO’s ColorOS 12 feature overview
Power saving is a practical option when you need additional runtime, but it is not a diagnosis of the drain’s cause. ColorOS 13 and 14 feature announcements describe system power-management capabilities, including Smart Charging in ColorOS 14; those vendor descriptions do not establish that the features eliminate post-update drain on every phone. Record your software details and seek device-specific help if needed
If the drain remains unusually rapid after checking app use and trying relevant built-in controls, contact OPPO or the phone seller’s support channel. Include:
- Your phone model.
- The ColorOS version and software build.
- When you installed the update.
- Which apps show notable battery use, including whether it is foreground or background activity.
Also seek support if the phone becomes abnormally hot. The official guidance does not set a universal threshold for abnormal drain, so support for your particular model and build is more useful than applying a fixed rule to every phone.

Avoid a factory reset as a first response
The official guidance cited here does not establish a factory reset as a universal fix for post-update battery drain. A reset can erase data; consider it only if device-specific support recommends it, and back up important data first.
