Discord’s “Awaiting Endpoint” message means Discord has not finished selecting or connecting your call to a voice server endpoint. It is a voice-connection failure, not automatically a microphone-permission problem.
Before changing DNS, reinstalling Discord, or altering firewall settings, check whether other people are affected. If several users cannot join voice across different servers, the likely cause is a Discord-side incident and local repairs will not resolve it.
Start with the fastest diagnosis
- Ask another person to join the same call. If they also see the error, the problem may affect the channel, server, or Discord itself.
- Try a different server or call. If voice works elsewhere, the original channel or server path is the likely problem.
- Check Discord’s status page. Open discordstatus.com and inspect Voice, Gateway, API, and the listed regional Voice components. Also check the relevant client component—Desktop, iOS, Android, or Web.
Discord’s status page can show “All Systems Operational” while an isolated regional, account, client, or network problem remains. Conversely, a newly developing incident may not be posted immediately, so reports from several unrelated servers are useful evidence.

Why checking for an outage matters
“Awaiting Endpoint” has appeared during confirmed Discord incidents. On March 25, 2026, Discord reported a voice and video outage lasting from 12:13 PDT to 15:30 PDT. Discord attributed it to a configuration change that shut down a large portion of its session-management servers, which then overwhelmed voice-routing infrastructure.

The recovery required Discord to restart and expand voice-syncer capacity, tune rate limits, and change connection-pooling infrastructure. That kind of failure cannot be repaired by flushing your DNS cache, changing your microphone, or reinstalling the app.
Other confirmed incidents included “Failure to start new voice calls” on March 19–20, 2026, “Issues connecting to Discord” on March 25, and “Unable to establish voice connection” on July 22. The wording differs, but the symptom is similar: Discord cannot complete the voice connection.
For the March 25 incident, Discord specifically determined that users’ DNS settings, VPNs, microphones, and firewalls were not the cause. This does not mean those settings can never cause an individual connection failure; it means they should not be your first assumption when the problem is widespread.

Fixes to try when only your connection is affected
1. Leave and rejoin the voice call
Disconnect from the voice channel, wait several seconds, and join again. If the call is stuck during endpoint selection, a fresh join attempt can create a new connection request.
If the error returns immediately, do not repeatedly reconnect for several minutes. Move to the next diagnostic step instead.
2. Test another Discord server or call
Join a different voice channel where you have access. For a direct call, try another contact if possible. This separates a local problem from an issue limited to one server, channel, call, or regional route.

- Everything fails: suspect your client, network, account path, or a Discord incident.
- Only one server fails: tell a moderator; changing your computer may not help.
- Only one friend’s call fails: either participant’s network path or the call’s routing may be involved.
3. Fully close and reopen Discord
Close Discord rather than merely hiding its window, then start it again. On a computer, check the operating system’s running-app or task list and quit any remaining Discord process before relaunching.
This can clear a stale client session. It will not fix a Discord-side outage, and it is not a reason to assume that every “Awaiting Endpoint” error is a corrupted installation.
4. Test Discord on another connection
Use a different network temporarily, such as a phone hotspot, or test Discord on a mobile connection. If voice works on the alternate connection, your normal router, ISP path, filtering, or network policy deserves investigation.
Be cautious when interpreting the result: a temporary improvement can also coincide with Discord recovering from an incident.
5. Temporarily remove network filters for testing
VPNs, corporate or school network controls, security software, and restrictive firewall rules can interfere with real-time traffic. If you control the device and network, test with the VPN disconnected and with security filtering paused only long enough to compare results.

Restore your protections after the test. Do not permanently disable a firewall or antivirus product based only on this message, and do not open arbitrary ports unless your network administrator or a verified Discord support instruction specifically requires it.

6. Try another Discord client
If you normally use the desktop app, test Discord in the web client or on a phone. If you normally use mobile, test desktop or web. Discord’s status page tracks Desktop, iOS, Android, and Web separately, so a client-specific problem is possible even when the overall service appears healthy.
A working alternate client is a useful workaround and a diagnostic clue. It does not prove that reinstalling the original app is necessary.
7. Update the app through its normal distribution channel
Install any available Discord update from the app’s normal update mechanism or the official Discord download source. An outdated client can have connection problems, but Discord’s verified incident reports do not establish a particular version number as a required fix for “Awaiting Endpoint.”

What not to assume
It does not automatically mean your microphone is blocked
Microphone permissions affect whether Discord can capture audio. “Awaiting Endpoint” occurs while Discord is trying to establish the voice connection itself, so checking microphone permissions is not the first diagnostic step.
Reinstalling Discord is not a universal fix
A reinstall may help if your local installation is damaged, but it cannot repair Discord’s session-management or voice-routing infrastructure. During the March 25 outage, the remedy was server-side recovery, not client reinstallation.

Changing DNS is not a guaranteed remedy
DNS changes and commands such as Windows ipconfig /flushdns or macOS sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder are commonly recommended online. They are not verified Discord-supported commands for this error, and they cannot solve a platform-wide voice outage. If you use them as an experiment, treat the result as local network troubleshooting—not as an official Discord fix.

Changing the voice region is not always possible or useful
A different voice route may help in a genuinely regional or server-specific situation, but it cannot correct a Discord-wide Voice, Gateway, or session-management failure. It also does not apply identically to every server channel and call type.
Discord’s interface for voice-region controls has changed across editions and call types. Because the current official material does not verify one universal menu path, do not rely on an old instruction such as Server Settings → Overview → Server Region without checking the controls currently available in your own Discord client.
When to wait instead of troubleshooting
Wait for Discord to resolve the issue when:
- multiple people report the same error;
- voice fails across unrelated servers or calls;
- Discord Status shows a Voice, Gateway, API, or client incident;
- the problem began suddenly and affects both desktop and mobile/web clients; or
- local changes have no effect while other users experience the same failure.
Save the incident time, affected servers, client type, and any status-page reference. That information is more useful to Discord support than repeatedly reinstalling the app.

Contact a server moderator if the failure is limited to one server or channel. Ask whether other members can connect and whether the channel has recently been moved, restricted, or reconfigured.

- your Discord client: Desktop, Web, iOS, or Android;
- the approximate time and time zone;
- whether text messaging works;
- whether the problem affects every server or only one;
- whether another network or device works; and
- the exact status text, including “Awaiting Endpoint.”
Practical decision tree
- Check Discord Status and ask whether others are affected.
- If the issue is widespread, wait for Discord’s incident updates; local repairs are unlikely to help.
- If one server fails, try another server and notify its moderators.
- If only you fail, restart Discord, test another client, and test another network.
- If another network works, investigate your VPN, firewall, router, ISP path, or network policy.
- If no client or network works, collect details and contact Discord support.
FAQ
What does “Awaiting Endpoint” mean on Discord?
It means Discord has not completed the process of selecting or connecting your call to a voice server endpoint. It is a voice-connection state, not proof that your microphone permissions are wrong.
Is “Awaiting Endpoint” always caused by my internet?
No. Discord has documented platform-wide voice incidents that produced the same type of connection failure. If many people and servers are affected, the cause may be on Discord’s side.
Should I reinstall Discord to fix the error?
Only consider reinstalling if the problem is isolated to your device and other clients or networks work. Reinstalling cannot fix a Discord-wide session-management or voice-routing outage.
Will changing DNS fix Discord’s “Awaiting Endpoint” error?
Not reliably. DNS commands frequently suggested online are not verified Discord-supported fixes, and they cannot resolve a backend outage. Test another network first if you suspect a local connection problem.
Can changing the Discord voice region fix it?
Sometimes a route-specific problem may improve after using another available region, but this is not a universal fix. It cannot resolve a Discord-wide Voice, Gateway, or session-management incident, and the available controls vary by call type and client.
Why can I use Discord text chat but not voice?
Text and voice use different service components and connection paths. Discord’s API or Gateway may be working while Voice or voice endpoint selection is impaired.

“Awaiting Endpoint” is best treated as a connection-diagnosis problem, not automatically a microphone, DNS, or installation problem. First check Discord Status and compare your experience with other users. If the failure is widespread, wait for Discord’s backend recovery. If only you are affected, compare another server, client, and network before changing system settings or reinstalling Discord.
