If an app looks stretched, leaves too much empty space, or hides controls on your Galaxy Z Fold 8’s inner screen, first try Samsung’s per-app Full screen setting. If it crops or distorts the app, switch back to App default: the setting is a reversible preference, not a universal compatibility fix. Apps that still behave poorly may need an update from their developer.
Start by identifying what is wrong
Open the affected app with the phone unfolded and look at the problem before changing settings. “Doesn’t work well” can describe several different things, and the best next step depends on the symptom:
- Empty space or narrow content: the app may be using a phone-oriented layout that does not make good use of the larger window.
- Stretched text, images, or controls: forcing the app to fill the screen may be scaling content rather than rearranging it into a better layout.
- Cropped or unreachable controls: the app’s content may not fit the available window, or its layout may not adapt properly.
- Too few columns or an awkward arrangement: the app may work but not provide a useful large-screen layout.
This is a practical way to describe the symptom, not a Samsung diagnostic test. If possible, note whether it happens only on the inner screen, only after rotating the phone, or after opening and closing the device. Those details help you judge whether a setting changed the result and give the app developer a clearer problem report.
Before changing anything, take note of what is actually difficult to use. A wide empty margin is different from a button that is cut off, and a stretched image is different from an app that simply keeps a single-column design. The aim is not necessarily to make every app fill every pixel. It is to find the presentation in which text is readable and the controls you need can be reached.

It can also help to compare the affected app with another app on the same inner screen. If other apps use the space normally and only one app looks wrong, that points toward an app-specific layout or compatibility problem. If the same part of the display behaves abnormally in multiple unrelated apps, that is a different pattern worth mentioning to Samsung support; it still is not a conclusive hardware diagnosis.
Try Samsung’s per-app full-screen preference
Samsung documents a per-app setting that can change how an app uses the display. The exact options can depend on the phone’s model and software version, and Samsung notes that some apps are not compatible with Full screen view.
- Unfold the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and open Settings > Display > Full screen apps.
- If the setting is available, open Aspect ratio, then select the affected app.
- Choose Full screen to make the app fill the available display, or App default to preserve the app’s own presentation behavior.
- Close and reopen the app as a practical check. Relaunching is not a Samsung-stated requirement or a guaranteed fix; it simply lets you compare the app after changing its preference.
If you cannot find Full screen apps, or the affected app is not listed or cannot be changed, the control may not be available for your model, software version, or that app. Do not assume that another aspect-ratio setting exists: use the options actually shown on your device.

Samsung’s support instructions are model- and software-dependent. Fold phones can also show different available controls when open versus closed. If a menu differs from these steps, do not keep searching for a particular setting under a different name or assume your phone is missing a fix. The option may not be offered on that software version, or it may not be available for the app in question.
Change the preference for one affected app at a time. That keeps the comparison useful: you can see whether the app’s own appearance changed without mixing in settings changes for other apps. After selecting an option, reopen the app and look at the same screen or task that revealed the problem. Treat this as a simple before-and-after check rather than proof that the app has been repaired.
Choose the option that leaves the app usable

Samsung warns that compatibility varies. If Full screen makes buttons disappear, cuts off content, or visibly distorts the interface, return to App default. A layout that fills every corner is not necessarily a better layout.
Make the comparison on practical criteria, not just appearance. Can you read the text comfortably? Can you reach every button you need? Is any important content clipped? Does the app reorganize its information into a layout that helps, or does it merely occupy more of the display? If Full screen improves only one of those things while making another worse, App default may be the more usable choice.

Try a different viewing arrangement for supported apps
If the app remains awkward, Samsung provides display and multitasking options that can make some supported apps more comfortable to use. These options change the viewing arrangement; they do not rewrite the app’s layout or guarantee that an incompatible app will work correctly.
Use Multi view when the app supports it
- Open Settings > Display > Screen layout and zoom.
- Select Multi view, if that option is available.
- Open the app and check whether it offers a useful dual-column layout.
Multi view is for certain apps, not every app. If the app does not support the layout or it makes content harder to read, use the arrangement that keeps the important controls accessible.
A dual-column presentation can make better use of a broad display when the app has been designed to provide one. It is not the same as stretching a phone layout across a wider area: the app needs to support the alternative presentation. Compare it with the app’s ordinary full-screen view by checking whether the columns make information easier to scan, whether text remains readable, and whether important controls remain easy to reach. If the app does not change or the result feels cramped, switch back to the layout you can use.
Use Multi window to give the app a different-sized window
Samsung also documents split-screen and pop-up Multi window. These let you arrange an app alongside another app or in a pop-up window. They can help if a narrower or differently arranged window makes the app easier to use, or if you need to keep another app visible while working. They are workarounds for how you view or multitask with the app, not repairs to a poor full-screen layout.
Compare arrangements by whether the app’s text is readable, controls remain reachable, and the app actually supports the feature. If the app’s content is still clipped or its interface remains distorted, changing the window arrangement has not solved the underlying app-compatibility problem.
For example, a constrained app window may be easier to use if its controls are grouped more comfortably at that size, or a pop-up may let you refer to another app without leaving the current task. But a windowed arrangement can also leave less space for the app. The useful choice depends on the work you are doing and the app’s support for that arrangement. Do not treat split-screen, pop-up, or Multi view as a required step; they are optional ways to work around an awkward presentation.
Why an app can look wrong on the inner screen
The Fold changes the available app window when you unfold or fold it, rotate the phone, or resize an app in a window. The cover and main screens also have different aspect ratios. An app designed around a fixed phone-sized shape may therefore leave unused space, scale content poorly, or fail to reposition controls when the window changes.
Samsung says foldable apps need to support a range of aspect ratios and that developers must test across that diversity. There is no single developer-side solution that suits every aspect ratio. That is why a per-app display preference may improve one app while making another less usable.

Google’s Android guidance likewise explains that apps with fixed assumptions about orientation, aspect ratio, or resizability can have display problems on large screens. Its adaptive-app recommendations include layouts that respond to the actual window size, avoiding stretched components, keeping controls reachable (including by making content scroll where appropriate), handling window-size changes without losing app state, and checking camera previews across orientations.
These are app-design considerations, not settings that you need to configure yourself. If an app does not adjust when its available window changes, the operating system’s display preference may not be enough to give it a well-designed layout. That is why reporting a repeatable problem to the app developer can matter: the developer can address how the app responds to different window sizes, orientations, and display shapes.
An Android Developers article posted in July 2026 specifically describes the Galaxy Z Fold8 as a landscape-first device with a wider main-display aspect ratio, and recommends adapting layouts to the actual app window. That explains why an older or rigid app may look poor on the inner screen; it does not establish that any particular app is defective or that all apps have the same problem.

What Android 16’s large-screen policy does—and does not—mean
Google states that, on Android 16, support for all orientations, aspect ratios, and app resizability is the baseline experience for large-screen devices with a smallest screen width of at least 600 dp when an app targets API level 36. Developers may opt out. Google Play’s stated deadline for targeting API level 36 was August 2026.
These are platform-policy details, not proof that every app on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 has already been adapted. They do not guarantee a good design, establish that an app has updated, or promise that a particular issue will disappear. The relevant question for your phone is still whether the app’s controls and content work in the window you are using.
The policy describes expectations for app compatibility at a platform level; it is not a user-facing switch that forces every app into a polished foldable layout. Even an app that supports the relevant orientations and resizing can still make poor design choices. Conversely, a display issue in one app does not by itself show that the phone or Android version is malfunctioning. Look at the actual result in the app and use the reversible display preference only if it improves usability.
Update the app, then report a problem that remains
If the Samsung preference and available layouts do not make the app usable, install any available update for the app and the phone’s software, then check the app again. An update may address compatibility, but there is no guarantee one exists or that it will fix the specific symptom.
After updating, repeat the same check you made before: unfold the phone, open the affected app, and look for the same blank space, distortion, cropped control, or awkward layout. If the app behaves differently on the cover and main screens, note both outcomes. Avoid assuming an update has fixed the problem just because the app opens; the important question is whether the specific content and controls you need now work.

If the problem remains, report it to the app’s developer. Samsung encourages feedback from users who encounter app compatibility issues, including problems with apps in Flex mode. Give the developer a reproducible description rather than only saying the app “looks bad.” Include:
- the app name and version, if available;
- that the issue occurs on the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s inner screen;
- whether the phone is unfolded, rotated, or using a windowed layout when it happens;
- what you see—such as blank space, stretched content, cropped controls, or a layout with too few columns;
- whether switching between Full screen and App default changed the symptom.
These details help distinguish a layout or window-size problem from a broader app malfunction. If several unrelated apps show the same behavior, include that pattern when contacting Samsung support as well.
If the issue happens only after a specific change—such as rotating the phone, moving from the cover screen to the inner screen, or using a pop-up window—say so. A short sequence is more useful than a general description: name the app, describe what you did, and state what appeared on screen. If you can reproduce the problem reliably, the developer has a clearer starting point for investigating the app’s layout behavior.

This guidance addresses software behavior and does not diagnose physical display damage. If the same part of the inner screen shows persistent discoloration, lines, flickering, or an unresponsive area across unrelated apps, changing an app’s aspect ratio is unlikely to address the underlying issue. Contact Samsung support for help assessing the display rather than treating the symptom as an app-layout setting.
Conversely, if one app looks wrong but other content displays normally in the same area, that pattern is more consistent with an app-specific layout or compatibility issue. It is a useful distinction to report, not a definitive hardware test.

Will Multi view fix an app that looks stretched?
