Start by signing in with the Microsoft account that bought the game, then check the console’s game library under My games & apps > Ready to install. If the title is missing, confirm that the purchase is for the device you are using. For a console download that still will not start, stops, or shows an error, use the official Xbox installation troubleshooter and the displayed error-code guidance. Windows PC installs follow a separate Microsoft Store process.
Identify where the failed installation is happening
The correct next step depends on the device. A purchase shown in a Microsoft Store account does not prove that the game can be installed on every device associated with that account. First separate an ownership or library-visibility problem from a device-availability problem and from an installation failure that occurs after the title is recognized.

Do not apply a Windows Store repair sequence to an Xbox console, and do not assume that a console download queue can be fixed with Windows settings. The same Microsoft account can be associated with multiple devices while a particular game remains available on only some of them.

Sign in with the account that paid for the game
On the device where you are attempting the installation, check the signed-in Microsoft account. A different family member’s account, a secondary gamertag, or an account used only for Game Pass can make a completed purchase appear to be missing.

If more than one account is used on the console, identify the account that completed the transaction before changing anything else. Ownership and installation availability are account-dependent; being able to see the game on another account or another device does not establish that the current account owns an installable copy.
Do not use a visible Store search result as proof of ownership. A listing can be visible before the account has been authenticated, and a shared console can show Store content that belongs to another profile. Sign out of any account that is not the purchaser, then sign in to the account shown on the transaction record.
Use order history as a purchase check
Microsoft’s digital-download guidance treats Xbox games bought directly from Microsoft as downloadable products that can be installed or reinstalled. Use your Microsoft account’s order history to verify that the transaction completed and that you are checking the same account used at checkout.
Record the title, edition, and transaction status shown there. If an order is not present, stop treating the symptom as a download problem and resolve the account or transaction issue first. If the order is present, that confirms the purchase record but does not by itself prove that the item is available for every Xbox or Windows device.
Order history confirms the transaction, but it is not a substitute for the Xbox library check below. Microsoft’s general download article also contains Windows-only buttons and menus, so do not copy those PC paths onto an Xbox console.
2. Look in the Xbox library
Check Ready to install on Xbox One
- Open My games & apps on the Xbox.
- Open Ready to install.
- Find the purchased game and select it to begin installation.
Microsoft specifically directs Xbox One owners to this location when a purchased game does not appear in the normal game list. A title that is installed but not currently visible in the main list can be listed here instead.
Allow enough time to check the full list rather than relying only on the recently used or currently installed views. Search for the exact title and compare the edition shown with the one in order history. A deluxe, standard, cross-generation, or add-on listing may appear as a separate item, so selecting an unrelated edition will not solve the original installation request.
If the title is not listed
- Recheck the signed-in account against the account shown in order history.
- Confirm that the transaction is for the game edition and platform you are trying to use.
- Check whether the title is offered for your particular Xbox or for Windows only.
- Look for a separate listing if the purchase was an add-on or another edition rather than the base game.
- If the purchase is verified but the game is still absent, move to Xbox Support rather than repeatedly repurchasing it.
A missing title and a failed download are different symptoms. If the title never reaches the library, repeating install commands cannot correct an account, transaction, or eligibility mismatch. Keep the order record and the exact account information available when escalating.
The available Microsoft guidance does not establish that a missing title is caused by cache data, storage capacity, a network fault, or defective hardware. Do not assume one of those causes without a message or diagnostic result that identifies it.

3. Confirm that the game is eligible for this device
A Store listing is not a universal compatibility guarantee
Microsoft warns that an app or game can be available in the Store on one device but unavailable on another device, including an Xbox. For example, a title may be listed for a Windows PC while the account is being used on a console, or a purchase may belong to a console generation that your current device cannot install.
A purchase being visible on a phone, browser, another PC, or a different Xbox therefore does not prove that the current console can install it. Treat the device shown in the Store or library listing as a separate check from the account and payment checks.

- Which Xbox generation or model is being used?
- Does the Store or library identify the title as available for that device?
- Are you trying to install a separate edition, add-on, or platform version rather than the item that was purchased?
- Does the title appear under the same Microsoft account that completed the transaction?
If the game is not offered for the device, installation troubleshooting cannot make it compatible. Resolve the platform or edition mismatch through the purchase account and Microsoft’s support process. Do not buy a second copy merely because the first listing is unavailable on the current device.
Ownership, visibility, and availability are separate tests

4. Classify the exact failure
Recording what you see helps support identify the right path. Use the symptom that most closely matches your case. The point at which the process fails is more useful than a general statement that the game “will not install.”

Write down the full error text, including every digit and letter. Similar-looking codes can lead to different support instructions. Note whether the title was visible before the failure, whether an install button was present, and whether the failure occurred immediately or after a download began.

This record also prevents two different problems from being mixed together. “Not in the library” calls for account, order, or eligibility checks; “in the library but stopped” calls for Xbox installation troubleshooting. The correct branch can change even when the game title is the same.
5. Route a persistent Xbox console failure to official Xbox Support
After confirming the account, checking My games & apps > Ready to install, and verifying device eligibility, Microsoft directs users with continuing console installation problems to Xbox Support’s troubleshooting for games and apps.
Use the current Xbox Support installation article for the console model and symptom shown on screen. The support path is preferable to a generic internet checklist because it can distinguish an ownership issue, an availability issue, and a console installation issue. If the support page asks for an error code, use the exact code displayed by the console.

What to include when you contact support
- The Xbox model or generation.
- The Microsoft account that made the purchase.
- The game title and edition.
- Whether the title appears in Ready to install.
- Whether order history shows a completed transaction.
- Whether the Store identifies the title as available for the console.
- The point of failure: missing purchase, unavailable install button, download that never starts, or installation that stops.
- The exact error code or message, if one is shown.
This information separates an ownership or eligibility problem from an installation problem and prevents support from sending you through the wrong branch. Include the wording exactly rather than paraphrasing it, and state whether the problem occurs with this one title or with another installation as well.

If Xbox displays an error code, search Microsoft’s official Xbox error-code guidance for that exact code and follow the instructions attached to it. Do not infer what a code means from its number or apply a fix written for a different code. In particular, a code such as 0x803F7000 should be handled through its official article; its meaning and remedy should not be guessed from the code alone.
The documented guidance available for this issue does not establish a universal console reset, cache-clearing sequence, network change, or storage upgrade. Those actions may be appropriate in a support article for a particular symptom, but they are not safe general fixes for every post-purchase installation failure.
Why buying hardware is not the first answer
There is no established basis here for recommending a storage expansion drive, accessory, repair item, or other physical product. Extra storage could matter in a separately diagnosed capacity problem, but a purchase that is missing, unavailable for the device, or not recognized by the account is not fixed by buying hardware. Confirm the cause before spending money.
6. If the failed installation is on a Windows PC
Use this branch only when the game is being installed through Microsoft Store on Windows. The menus and remedies are different from those on an Xbox console.

Sign in and verify the Windows Store account
- Open Microsoft Store on the PC.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that made the purchase.
- Check the Store library or purchase history for the title.
- Confirm that the listing identifies the game as available for Windows and for the edition you bought.
If the title appears on one PC but not another, that does not prove that both devices meet the listing’s availability requirements. Microsoft notes that Store items can be available on one device and unavailable on another.
Follow Microsoft Store troubleshooting
Microsoft’s Windows guidance recommends using the Store troubleshooting sequence after signing in. Follow the current steps shown for your Windows version rather than copying Xbox menu names into Windows. Keep any Store error message, the Windows version, the account used for the purchase, and the device-availability result together when requesting help.
Restart after recent Windows updates
Microsoft notes that a PC that was recently updated may need a restart before Store apps install. This advice applies to the Windows branch only; it is not evidence that restarting an Xbox will fix a console download.
If the Windows Store still cannot install the game, keep the issue in the Windows support path. Do not switch to Xbox console instructions simply because the purchase is an Xbox-branded title; the failed installation environment determines the correct support route.

Common assumptions that can waste time
“I can see it in the Store, so it must install on my Xbox”
Not necessarily. Microsoft explicitly distinguishes availability by device. Check the platform and device listing before treating the problem as a failed download.
“The purchase receipt proves the console owns an installable copy”
A receipt verifies the transaction, but the console still has to be signed in to the purchasing account and the item must be eligible for that device and edition.
“I should keep retrying the install”
Repeated attempts do not resolve a missing library item, an account mismatch, or a platform-ineligible listing. First classify the failure, then use the support branch that matches it.
“Buying a larger drive will fix it”
Insufficient storage is not established by the available evidence for this problem. Do not buy a drive or other accessory unless a separate, specific diagnostic says storage is the cause.
“A paid PC cleanup utility is the answer”
Windows Store troubleshooting does not establish that a third-party utility is appropriate, and PC cleanup advice does not fix an Xbox-console installation issue.
