First, check whether your vivo or iQOO phone still boots normally. If only the download is stalled, check the network and free storage, restart the phone normally if possible, and retry the built-in update. If installation failed or the phone cannot reach the home screen, use the Recovery or System Repair instructions for your exact model and region. Back up important data before retrying or using recovery.
Before you troubleshoot, identify your phone and update
Note the exact vivo or iQOO model, country or region, current software build, and the update version you were trying to install. Recovery menus, button combinations, and firmware packages can differ by model and market. Do not apply a package or key sequence just because it is described for another vivo phone.
vivo’s phone manual recommends backing up important data before upgrading. Its firmware guidance also advises sufficient battery, but the reviewed instructions do not give a universal battery percentage or a standard time after which an update should be considered frozen. If the phone still boots and only the download is stuck
Check the connection, storage, and power
- Use a stable Wi-Fi connection; if available, try another trusted Wi-Fi network. vivo’s manual allows Wi-Fi or mobile data for updates and recommends Wi-Fi because an update may use substantial data.
- Check that the phone has enough free storage and battery to download and install the update. The official guidance does not specify a universal storage amount or battery threshold.
- If the phone is responsive, restart it using the normal restart menu. Then open Settings > System update and try again.
A restart is a cautious troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix: the official guidance reviewed does not claim that restarting clears a stalled download, and it does not prescribe a universal update-cache reset. Avoid deleting system files or following unofficial cache-clearing instructions.

Let an active installation finish
If the phone is still showing installation progress and responds to input, do not repeatedly force it off or interrupt it. If the screen is genuinely unresponsive, or the phone no longer boots to the home screen, use the Recovery guidance below rather than trying random button combinations.
If installation failed or the phone will not reach the home screen
Try the model-specific Recovery or System Repair option
vivo’s China support page says that a phone that cannot boot or has had an online upgrade failure can use System Repair in Recovery. The documented menu path is Install system software > Online update to the latest version > Download and install latest version (retain data), or System Repair mode > Enter System Repair mode > Download and install latest version. Connect to available Wi-Fi and follow the prompts. Menu wording and entry steps can vary by model. (vivo China System Repair guidance)

A separate vivo customer-service article, published July 29, 2026, describes connecting to Wi-Fi in Recovery, downloading and installing the latest version, and restarting after a successful installation. It gives different Recovery-entry instructions for foldables, most models released after September 2017, NEX 3/NEX 3S, and older models. Use the instructions only if they match your device; do not treat one key combination as universal. (vivo customer-service guidance)
Use force restart only when appropriate for the device
The same customer-service article groups force-restart instructions by device and software family: tablets and models running Funtouch OS 3.2 or later use Power + Volume Down for more than 10 seconds; NEX 3/NEX 3S use the top round button for more than 10 seconds; and older Funtouch OS models use Power for more than 12 seconds. This guidance is categorized by Funtouch version and device family, so confirm the correct method for your exact model before using it on an OriginOS phone.

When to consider manual firmware—and when not to
Manual firmware installation is a model- and region-specific fallback, not the next step for every stalled download. vivo India’s tutorial says to download the firmware for the phone, place it in the root of phone storage or on an SD card without decompressing it, and install through File Manager or Recovery where supported. Follow that tutorial only if it applies to your model and market. It also says Android 8 and later phones cannot flash a lower version. (vivo India firmware tutorial)
Do not use firmware intended for another model or region, attempt a downgrade without official compatibility confirmation, or rely on unofficial ROMs, captured OTA links, bootloader workarounds, or generic flashing tools. Choose the path that matches the phone’s state

Contact vivo or iQOO support if repair does not work
Stop troubleshooting and contact official support if Recovery does not offer the repair option, the repair fails, the phone repeatedly returns to Recovery, or you cannot confirm the correct model- and region-matched firmware. vivo’s guidance directs users to official upgrade instructions or a service center when its repair menu is unavailable or does not restore operation.

Check rollout availability for your exact region
An update may not yet be available for every model or market. vivo’s China OriginOS page lists an OriginOS 7 rollout plan with waves beginning October 9, 2026, followed by October 29, late November 2026, late December 2026, and late January 2027. That schedule applies to the models and market shown on the China page; it does not establish availability for every device or region. Check the exact model and market with official support.
