Stop the game and unplug the phone if it is uncomfortably hot. Move it out of direct sunlight, remove a thick case if you can do so safely, and let it cool on a hard, ventilated surface. Do not put it in a refrigerator or expose it to water. Once it returns to a normal temperature, reduce the game’s graphics and frame rate, lower brightness, close unnecessary activity, and avoid gaming while charging.
Heat that appears only during a demanding game is different from heat while the phone is idle. Test those situations separately, use only the original or manufacturer-approved charger and cable, and treat repeated warnings, shutdowns, swelling, unusual smells, or damaged charging equipment as reasons to stop using the phone and contact authorized service.
Cool the phone safely before troubleshooting
Continuing to play while a phone is already very hot adds load before you know whether the cause is the game, charging system, environment, or a hardware fault. Use this sequence first:
- End the game and disconnect the charger. If the plug, cable, or adapter is damaged, do not reconnect it for testing.
- Move the phone away from direct sun, a hot car, radiators, or other heat sources.
- Remove a thick case only if it comes off without bending, squeezing, or otherwise stressing the phone.
- Place the phone on a hard, dry surface with air around it. A table is preferable to a bed, blanket, or clothing that can trap heat.
- Let it cool gradually. Do not put it in a refrigerator, freezer, or water bath; condensation and liquid damage can create a second fault.
Do not restart a game or reconnect the charger merely to see whether the temperature warning repeats. First establish that the phone has cooled and that the charging equipment is safe.

Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Identify which heat pattern you have
iQOO’s India support page separates the questions “Phone heats up when playing games,” “Heats up while charging,” and “The phone heats up in a high temperature environment, direct sunlight, or covered by foreign objects.” You can use those categories to narrow the next step without assuming every iQOO model has the same controls. See the iQOO India heating support topics.
Heat only during a demanding game
After the cool-down, play briefly with the charger disconnected. If warmth rises with graphics-heavy scenes, high frame rates, recording, downloads, or long sessions but settles after you stop, treat workload reduction as the first remedy. This pattern does not by itself prove a defect.
Heat mainly while charging
Leave the phone idle and charge it after it has cooled. If charging is the trigger, stop gaming while connected, inspect the adapter and cable, and switch to the original or manufacturer-approved accessories specified for your exact model and market. A damaged connector, loose fit, or unsuitable accessory is a charging-safety problem, not a game-settings problem.

Test the same game unplugged. Gaming draws power while charging adds another heat source, so the combined condition can feel substantially warmer than either activity alone. If the model supports it, Bypass Charging is designed for this particular situation.
Heat while idle or after light use
Persistent warmth with no demanding app running deserves a different response. Stop charging and normal use if the phone remains markedly hot while idle, especially when accompanied by a temperature warning, shutdown, swelling, or an unusual smell. Arrange authorized service rather than trying to open the phone.
Lower the game’s workload
Once the phone is cool, make one change at a time so you can see which adjustment helps. These steps reduce demand; they cannot repair a failing battery or charging circuit.
Reduce graphics and frame rate
Open the game’s graphics or performance menu and select a lower graphics-quality preset. Reduce the frame-rate target if the game offers one. A stable, lower setting usually produces less sustained work than repeatedly chasing the highest available frame rate. If the game has separate options for shadows, effects, resolution, or anti-aliasing, lower the most demanding options first.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Turn down the display
Reduce screen brightness to the lowest level that remains comfortable, and avoid leaving the display at maximum brightness in a bright room. A high-refresh or high-frame-rate display mode can also add load; if your phone exposes a refresh-rate choice, use a lower mode when smoothness is not important.
Stop background activity
Close downloads, screen recording, livestreaming, file transfers, and other active apps before launching the game. Pause cloud synchronization or large updates until the session ends. Do not force-stop system processes at random; close only apps and activities you recognize as unnecessary.
Shorten uninterrupted sessions
Take breaks during long matches. Put the phone down between rounds so heat can leave the chassis instead of accumulating. A break is especially useful after changing graphics settings, because it gives the phone time to settle before you judge the result.
Improve airflow and surroundings
Play out of direct sunlight and away from high-temperature surroundings. Keep the rear and edges uncovered, and do not place the phone on bedding, a cushion, or another insulating surface. If a case traps heat, remove it for a session only when doing so is safe and practical.

Avoid simultaneous gaming and charging
The simplest charging test is to play unplugged. If the phone stays comfortable while unplugged but becomes hot when the cable is connected, separate those activities whenever possible. The manufacturer’s smartphone guidance also advises against using the phone for long periods while it is charging and against use in high-temperature surroundings; see the vivo smartphone battery-maintenance instructions.
Use the correct charger and cable
Use the charger and data cable supplied with the phone or an accessory approved by the manufacturer for that exact model and market. Do not choose a replacement solely by matching a wattage number from another phone. Check both ends for fraying, bent contacts, cracked housings, scorch marks, looseness, or intermittent charging. If you find damage, stop using that accessory.
Check the charging environment
Charge on a hard, dry, ventilated surface, not under a pillow or blanket. Keep the phone out of direct sun and away from other heat sources. If the connector or phone becomes unusually hot, disconnect it and allow everything to cool before deciding whether service is needed.

Use features that exist on your specific model
Bypass Charging
Bypass Charging is not an iQOO-wide guarantee. The official iQOO 13 product page describes enabling Bypass Charging in a game scene so the charger prioritizes powering the phone directly and greatly slows battery charging, reducing battery-charging heat during simultaneous play and charging. The page’s claim applies to the listed model and its supported software; it should not be presented as a feature on every iQOO phone.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If your exact model offers the control, look for Bypass Charging in its gaming or battery settings and enable it before a plugged-in session. The label, location, and behavior can change with model, region, and software version. If you cannot find it, do not install an unofficial utility or assume that another charging mode has the same effect; play unplugged instead.
iManager Phone Cooling
One iQOO product page describes a Phone Cooling utility in iManager that reduces active apps and CPU frequency. Support and menu location vary by model, region, and software. If your phone includes the utility, open iManager and use the cooling option according to the on-screen description. Treat it as a workload-management aid, not as a repair for a hot battery, damaged cable, or heat that persists while idle. The feature description is on the iQOO product page for iManager Phone Cooling.
Consider a clip-on cooler only after the basics
A clip-on phone cooler can be useful during sustained gaming after you have reduced the workload, improved airflow, and ruled out charging equipment. iQOO’s global support and accessories page lists its Cooling Back Clip Pro; see iQOO’s support and popular-accessories page. That listing does not establish that every clip fits every iQOO model.
- Verify the cooler’s contact area and clamp range against the phone, camera bump, and case.
- Use it for game-load heat, not as a workaround for a swelling battery, damaged port, faulty adapter, or repeated temperature warning.
- Remove condensation or moisture immediately if a cooling accessory creates it, and do not use a wet phone.
- Stop the session if the phone remains abnormally hot despite lower settings and airflow.
No third-party cooler has been tested for this guide, so a cooler should be treated as an optional accessory rather than a diagnosis or repair.

The vivo battery-maintenance instructions give an optimal battery working-temperature range of 0°C to 35°C. That is battery guidance, not an iQOO-wide surface-temperature alarm threshold. The instructions do not establish one universal temperature at which every iQOO phone will warn or shut down, so do not use a kitchen thermometer or a guessed number as a substitute for the phone’s warnings and behavior.
Use the range as environmental context: avoid charging or gaming in very hot surroundings, and allow a phone that has become hot to return gradually toward normal room conditions before resuming use.

Choose the next action from the pattern
| Observed pattern | First action | Escalate when |
|---|---|---|
| Heat rises during graphics-heavy play and falls after stopping | Lower graphics and frame rate, reduce brightness, close active background tasks, improve airflow, and take breaks. | The phone remains hot after the game has ended or begins warning or shutting down. |
| Heat appears mainly while connected to a charger | Stop gaming while charging, check the cable and adapter, and use original or manufacturer-approved accessories for the model. | The accessory is damaged, the connector is unusually hot, or charging remains abnormal with approved equipment. |
| Heat is much worse when gaming and charging together | Test the game unplugged. Use Bypass Charging only if the exact model provides it. | Warnings or shutdowns continue even with reduced load and safe charging equipment. |
| Heat occurs in direct sun, a hot environment, or under a covering | Move the phone to a shaded, ventilated, hard surface and remove the covering when safe. | It remains markedly hot after the environment and workload return to normal. |
| Heat occurs while idle or with light use | Stop charging and demanding use; allow the phone to cool and note any warning or abnormal behavior. | Idle heat repeats, or there is swelling, an unusual smell, a warning, or a shutdown. |
Know when to stop troubleshooting and seek service
Stop using and charging the phone and contact an authorized after-sales service centre if any of these conditions appears:
- Repeated temperature warnings or automatic shutdowns.
- Marked heat while the phone is idle or doing only light work.
- A swollen, distorted, or lifting body that could indicate battery swelling.
- An unusual chemical or burning smell.
- A charger, cable, plug, or charging port that is damaged, scorched, loose, or intermittently connected.
- Heat that persists after the phone is cool, unplugged, out of sunlight, and running a reduced workload.
Do not open the phone, press on a swollen area, puncture the battery, or order an unverified replacement battery. The battery instructions advise using original batteries, chargers, and data cables and taking errors to an authorized service centre. Service staff can inspect the battery, port, charging circuit, and thermal sensors for the exact model.
A repeatable prevention routine
- Before a long session, charge with approved equipment in a cool, ventilated place rather than under a cover.
- Set a moderate graphics preset and frame rate before the phone becomes hot.
- Lower brightness and close recording, downloads, and other active tasks you do not need.
- Keep the phone out of direct sun and off insulating surfaces.
- Play unplugged whenever possible. If the exact model supports Bypass Charging, use it for a plugged-in game session instead of assuming every iQOO has that function.
- Take breaks and let the phone cool between extended sessions.
- At the first sign of a warning, unusual smell, swelling, or damaged charging equipment, stop using the phone and arrange authorized service.
This routine separates normal, workload-related warmth from charging or hardware symptoms that should not be managed with game settings alone.
Common mistakes that make overheating worse
- Testing repeatedly while the phone is still hot: one more match or another charging cycle adds heat before the previous load has dissipated. Cool down fully before each comparison.
- Using a blanket, pillow, or soft sofa as a gaming stand: these surfaces can cover the rear and restrict airflow. Use a hard, dry surface instead.
- Assuming a fast charger from another device is suitable: wattage alone does not confirm compatibility. Use accessories approved for the exact iQOO model and market.
- Keeping a thick case on during every test: remove it only if it can be removed safely, and compare like-for-like conditions so you know whether it is trapping heat.
- Installing an unverified cooling app: use iManager Phone Cooling only when it is supplied on your model. An unofficial app cannot correct a damaged battery or port.
- Treating an external cooler as a safety fix: a clip-on cooler may help sustained game-load warmth, but it does not make a swollen battery or damaged charger safe.
- Chasing a precise temperature number: there is no single iQOO-wide alarm threshold established for every model. Give priority to warnings, shutdowns, persistent idle heat, and physical or charging abnormalities.
How to run a useful comparison test
After the phone is cool, change only one condition at a time. First run the game for a short period unplugged with moderate graphics and brightness. Note whether heat rises only in demanding scenes or remains after you stop. On another cooled session, repeat with the same settings while charging with approved equipment. Finally, test the phone idle while charging. This simple comparison distinguishes game workload, combined gaming-and-charging load, and charging-related heat without requiring an unverified temperature reading.
Stop any test immediately if a warning appears, the phone shuts down, the body swells, a smell develops, or the plug, cable, port, or adapter becomes unusually hot. Those signs override troubleshooting and call for authorized service.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it normal for an iQOO phone to feel warm during gaming?
Sustained gaming can produce noticeable warmth, especially with high graphics, high frame rates, recording, downloads, bright display settings, or long sessions. Warmth that settles after stopping is different from marked heat while idle, repeated warnings, shutdowns, swelling, unusual smells, or charging faults. Stop and seek authorized service when those abnormal signs occur.
Should I play while the iQOO phone is charging?
Avoid it when possible. Gaming and charging add separate heat loads. Test the game unplugged after cooling, and use Bypass Charging only if your exact model and software provide that feature. The smartphone battery guidance also advises against using the phone for long periods while charging.

How do I know whether the charger is causing the heat?
Let the phone cool, then compare a short game session unplugged with idle charging using the approved charger and cable. If heat appears mainly when connected, inspect both accessories for fraying, bent contacts, cracks, scorch marks, looseness, or intermittent charging. Stop using damaged equipment and arrange service if approved accessories still produce abnormal heat.
Does every iQOO phone have Bypass Charging?
No. The iQOO 13 product page describes Bypass Charging for that listed model and supported software. Menus and availability vary by model, region, and software version. If you cannot find the control on your phone, play unplugged rather than installing an unofficial utility or assuming another mode has the same behavior.
What does iManager Phone Cooling do?
An iQOO product page describes Phone Cooling in iManager as reducing active apps and CPU frequency. It is model- and software-dependent, and menu locations vary. Use it only if your phone includes it, and treat it as workload management rather than a repair for a hot battery, damaged cable, or idle overheating.
Recommended Free Tools
Can a clip-on phone cooler fix overheating?
A compatible clip-on cooler may help with sustained game-load warmth after you lower settings and improve airflow. It is optional, must fit around the camera bump and case, and is not a solution for swelling, a damaged port or adapter, repeated warnings, or heat that persists while idle. Stop if it creates moisture or the phone remains abnormally hot.
What temperature is too hot for an iQOO phone?
The available battery guidance gives an optimal working range of 0°C to 35°C, but that is not a universal iQOO surface-temperature alarm limit. Do not rely on a guessed number. Follow the phone’s warnings and behavior, and treat persistent idle heat, shutdowns, swelling, smells, or charging abnormalities as reasons to stop use and seek service.
Can I replace the battery or open the phone myself?
Do not open the phone, press or puncture a swollen area, or order an unverified replacement battery. Use original batteries, chargers, and data cables and have errors inspected by an authorized after-sales service centre for your exact model.
The Bottom Line
Cool the phone first, then compare gaming unplugged, charging while idle, and gaming while charging. Reduce graphics, frame rate, brightness, background activity, and session length; keep the phone shaded and ventilated; and use only approved charging accessories. Bypass Charging and iManager Phone Cooling are model-specific, while a clip-on cooler is optional. Repeated warnings, shutdowns, idle heat, swelling, unusual smells, or damaged charging equipment mean stop using and charging the phone and contact authorized service.
