Most Insta360 Flow connection problems come from pairing in the wrong place, a Bluetooth link left on another phone, or missing app permissions. Most face-tracking problems are different: the gimbal may be paired correctly, but the camera app or tracking mode does not support the feature. Use the connection steps first, then follow the tracking path for your exact Flow model, phone, operating system, and camera app.
Start by identifying the failure
Separate a pairing failure from a tracking failure before changing settings. If the gimbal never appears in the Insta360 app, follow the connection procedure. If the app connects and the motors respond but your face is not followed, Bluetooth is probably working and the limitation is the camera app, tracking mode, phone, or physical fit.
| What you see | Most likely area | First action |
|---|---|---|
| The gimbal is absent from the Insta360 app | Bluetooth state, another connected phone, permissions, or model compatibility | Reset Bluetooth with Trigger + Shutter, then pair from the Insta360 app |
| The gimbal appears, but activation or setup stops | Internet access, app version, or an interrupted firmware update | Reconnect to the internet, update the app, and repeat setup without powering off the gimbal |
| The Insta360 app connects, but Deep Track does not follow a face | Tracking mode, app permissions, or the selected subject | Use the app’s Deep Track controls and confirm the app has the required permissions |
| The native or third-party camera app connects, but tracking is unavailable | That app may not support the model’s tracking protocol | Check Android Live Mode/AI Tracker or iOS DockKit requirements instead of repeating Bluetooth pairing |
| The phone is loose or the gimbal cannot balance it | Phone dimensions or weight outside Insta360’s recommendation | Check thickness, width, and weight before troubleshooting software |
Check model, phone, and physical fit
Confirm the Flow model
These procedures apply to Insta360 Flow, Flow Pro, Flow 2, and Flow 2 Pro. The model matters for tracking: Flow Pro and Flow 2 Pro support Apple’s DockKit route, while Flow 2 and Flow 2 Pro can use the separately purchased AI Tracker for supported third-party Android use. Do not assume that a feature available on one model is present on every Flow.
Check the basic phone requirements
Insta360 lists Bluetooth 5.0 or later, Android 7.0 or later, or iOS 11 or later with iPhone 8 or later for Flow-series pairing. These are baseline pairing requirements, not a guarantee that every camera control or tracking mode will be available. A phone can satisfy the operating-system minimum and still be absent from a model-specific compatibility list.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Measure the phone and case
Insta360 recommends a phone thickness of 6.9–10 mm, width of 64–84 mm, and weight of 130–300 g. Measure the phone with the case, lens protector, or other attached accessories that will remain on it. A phone outside those ranges may not be held securely or balanced correctly; software resets cannot correct an unsafe physical fit.
- Remove a bulky case temporarily when checking whether the clamp can close evenly.
- Make sure the phone is centered in the clamp and cannot slide while the gimbal moves.
- If the phone is outside the recommended dimensions or weight, treat intermittent movement and failed tracking as a compatibility issue rather than a Bluetooth fault.
Pair the gimbal through the Insta360 app
Initial pairing should be performed in the Insta360 app, not by choosing the gimbal from the phone’s general Bluetooth settings first. The app handles activation and feature setup that a system-level Bluetooth connection does not provide.
- Charge and power on the gimbal. Keep the gimbal powered while you work. Mount the phone securely within the recommended size and weight range.
- Turn on the phone’s Bluetooth. Keep the phone close to the gimbal and temporarily disable Bluetooth on phones that might already be paired to it.
- Open or update the Insta360 app. Use the current version available for your phone. An outdated app can prevent discovery or hide model-specific controls.
- Open the camera/device screen. In the Insta360 app, tap the camera icon, select the discovered gimbal, and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Allow requested access. Permit Bluetooth and any local-network or mobile-data access requested by the app. Without those permissions, discovery, activation, or camera controls may fail even when Bluetooth is enabled in system settings.
- Complete first activation with internet access. The first activation may require an internet connection. Stay in the app until activation finishes.
- Let firmware updates finish. If the app offers a firmware update, do not switch off the gimbal, close the app, or deliberately interrupt the phone connection. An interrupted update can leave setup incomplete and create a second problem to diagnose.
After the app reports a successful connection, test pan/tilt controls and the shutter from inside the app. This confirms that the app session—not merely a visible Bluetooth entry—is working.

Reset Bluetooth when the gimbal is not detected
A Bluetooth reset clears the connection state used for pairing. On Flow-series models, hold the Trigger and Shutter buttons together for three seconds. Three beeps confirm that the Bluetooth reset completed.
- Update the Insta360 app if an update is available.
- With the gimbal powered on, press and hold Trigger and Shutter at the same time for three seconds.
- Wait for the three confirmation beeps.
- On the phone, open Bluetooth settings and forget or unpair any saved entry for the gimbal.
- Turn the phone’s Bluetooth off, wait a few seconds, and turn it on again.
- Return to the Insta360 app, tap the camera icon, select the gimbal, and complete pairing there.
If you do not hear three beeps, repeat the button hold with both buttons pressed simultaneously. Do not substitute a factory reset or firmware downgrade for this documented Bluetooth procedure; those actions are not established fixes for a normal discovery failure.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Resolve the one-phone connection lock
“The gimbal can only be connected to one phone at a time,” according to the Insta360 Online Manual. A Flow-series gimbal that remains connected to an old phone may not appear in the Bluetooth scan on a second phone.
- Find the previous phone, if available, and disconnect the gimbal in its Insta360 app.
- On that phone, forget or unpair the gimbal in Bluetooth settings as well.
- If the old phone is unavailable, perform the Trigger-and-Shutter Bluetooth reset until you hear three beeps.
- Turn Bluetooth off and back on on the new phone, then pair from the Insta360 app.
Checking this condition before reinstalling the app avoids mistaking an intentional single-phone limit for a defective radio.

Check app permissions and operating-system settings
Bluetooth being switched on is only one permission involved. The Insta360 connection guidance also calls for the app to have Bluetooth, local-network, and mobile-data permissions where the phone presents those controls.
- Bluetooth: In the phone’s app-permission settings, allow the Insta360 app to use nearby Bluetooth devices.
- Local network: On systems that expose a local-network permission, allow it for the Insta360 app.
- Mobile data: Allow mobile data if the app needs it for activation, discovery, or account services.
- System Bluetooth: Toggle Bluetooth off and on after changing permissions so the discovery scan starts fresh.
- App version: Update the Insta360 app before repeating the pairing attempt.
Permission labels vary by phone manufacturer and operating-system release. Use the app’s entry in system settings rather than assuming that a similarly named camera or gallery permission controls the gimbal.
Why a successful Bluetooth connection does not guarantee face tracking
Pairing and tracking use different software paths. The Insta360 app’s Deep Track feature is app-exclusive; connecting the gimbal through system Bluetooth alone does not add Deep Track to another camera application. The Flow series also does not directly provide tracking in third-party Android camera apps through an ordinary Bluetooth pairing.

For that reason, repeating the Bluetooth reset will not make an unsupported camera app gain face tracking. First identify which app you want to use, then choose the matching tracking route below.
Choose the correct face-tracking route
Route 1: Deep Track in the Insta360 app
Use this route when you are willing to record through the Insta360 app and want its integrated tracking. Pair the gimbal in the app, open the camera view, enable Deep Track, and select the face or subject using the app’s on-screen tracking control. Keep the app in the foreground while testing. If the gimbal responds to pan and tilt but the subject is not followed, verify that you are using the app’s Deep Track mode rather than a native-camera shortcut.
Deep Track availability is tied to the Insta360 app and the specific model/phone combination. A system Bluetooth pairing can operate the gimbal while leaving Deep Track unavailable in a different app.
Route 2: Third-party Android camera apps
For third-party Android use, Insta360 lists Live Mode or the separately purchased AI Tracker on Flow 2 and Flow 2 Pro as options. These are compatibility paths, not repairs for a gimbal that cannot pair.
- Use Live Mode when your Flow model and the chosen Android app appear on Insta360’s current compatibility information.
- Consider the AI Tracker only when you have a Flow 2 or Flow 2 Pro and need smart tracking in a supported third-party Android app.
- Do not expect either option to add tracking to an app that is not listed as compatible.
- Confirm that the phone’s Android version and the app’s own camera permissions meet that app’s requirements.
Route 3: iPhone DockKit
Flow Pro and Flow 2 Pro support DockKit in compatible iOS apps. DockKit is a separate route from Deep Track, so the app must support DockKit and the hardware must be one of the supported Pro models.

For tracking with the iPhone’s native Camera app, Insta360’s guidance specifies all of the following:
- Use Video mode, not another native Camera mode.
- Use an iPhone 12 or newer.
- Use iOS 17 or later; iOS 18 or later is recommended by Insta360.
- Pair to the Bluetooth name Dock.
- Check that tracking is active after the connection is established.
- An iPhone SE does not support this native-camera tracking feature, according to Insta360’s guidance.
For another iOS camera app, verify that the app itself supports DockKit. A Pro gimbal and a recent iPhone cannot make a non-DockKit app track a face.
Tracking options compared
| Tracking option | Required model or platform | Camera app | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deep Track | Flow-series model and supported phone/app combination | Insta360 app | App-exclusive; ordinary system Bluetooth pairing does not provide it elsewhere |
| Live Mode | Android; check the exact model and app compatibility | Supported third-party Android apps | Not a universal Android-camera feature |
| AI Tracker | Flow 2 or Flow 2 Pro; tracker is a separate purchase | Supported third-party Android apps | Compatibility option, not a solution to failed pairing |
| DockKit | Flow Pro or Flow 2 Pro with a compatible iPhone/app | Native Camera or another DockKit-compatible iOS app | Native Camera guidance requires Video mode, iPhone 12 or newer, iOS 17 or newer, and the “Dock” Bluetooth name |
Use this decision sequence when tracking still fails
- Verify that the gimbal is controllable. If pan, tilt, or shutter commands do not work in the Insta360 app, return to the connection procedure instead of troubleshooting tracking.
- Name the camera app. Decide whether you are using Insta360, an Android third-party app, the iPhone native Camera app, or another iOS app.
- Match the app to the protocol. Use Deep Track only in Insta360; use Live Mode or AI Tracker only on supported Android combinations; use DockKit only with supported Pro models and DockKit-compatible iOS apps.
- Check the phone requirement for that route. In particular, native iPhone Camera tracking requires iPhone 12 or newer and iOS 17 or newer, with iOS 18 or later recommended.
- Confirm the pairing name and mode. For native iPhone Camera tracking, the Bluetooth device should be named “Dock,” and the camera must be in Video mode.
- Recheck permissions and physical fit. Missing Bluetooth/local-network/mobile-data permissions or an oversized, overweight, or loose phone can prevent the expected behavior.
- Consult the current model-specific compatibility list. Compatibility, firmware, app support, and product availability can change even when the basic operating-system minimum remains the same.
Common wrong turns and safer alternatives
Pairing only from system Bluetooth
A system-level pairing may make the gimbal visible to the phone but does not complete Insta360 app activation or provide Deep Track in another app. Use the Insta360 app for initial pairing and app-specific features.
Trying to connect a second phone without disconnecting the first
The one-phone limit can hide the gimbal from the second phone. Disconnect the first phone or perform the documented Bluetooth reset before scanning again.

Repeating resets when the camera app is unsupported
A reset can restore discovery, but it cannot add Deep Track to a third-party app or DockKit support to an app that lacks it. Diagnose the tracking protocol first.
Interrupting activation or firmware installation
Switching off the gimbal or exiting the app during an update can leave setup unfinished. Keep power and the app active until the update reports completion.
Forcing a factory reset or downgrade
The documented connection procedure calls for a Bluetooth reset and compatibility checks. Do not assume that an undocumented factory reset, firmware downgrade, or repair will solve a normal pairing or app-compatibility problem.
When to contact Insta360 support
Escalate after you have confirmed the model and phone requirements, secured the phone within the recommended dimensions, updated the app, completed the three-beep Bluetooth reset, removed the old phone’s pairing, restored permissions, and tried pairing from the Insta360 app. Include the Flow model, phone model, operating-system version, Insta360 app version, camera app being used, whether the gimbal is connected to another phone, and the exact point at which the process fails.
If the gimbal appears in the Insta360 app but a third-party camera cannot track, report the app and tracking route rather than describing it only as a Bluetooth fault. Support can then check the model-specific compatibility list and current firmware guidance.
