Most Xiaomi tracker connection problems are resolved in Mi Fitness, not by repeatedly tapping the phone’s Bluetooth menu. Start by opening Mi Fitness and using its Connect or add-device flow. If the band appears in the phone’s Bluetooth list with an old or stuck relationship, remove or ignore that entry, then scan again in Mi Fitness. For repeated dropouts, allow Mi Fitness to run in the background and disable battery-saving rules that stop it. For a band that connects but will not upload records, check Bluetooth, app permissions, background activity and the model’s required Mi Fitness version. Factory-reset only after those steps, because a reset clears device data and unsynced records may not be recoverable.
The exact menu names differ by Android phone, iPhone, operating-system version and Xiaomi model. The sequence below separates the common symptoms so you do not reset a working band unnecessarily.
Identify the failure before changing settings
“Won’t connect” can describe four different states. A band that was paired yesterday but will not reconnect needs a different fix from a new band that never appears in a scan, and both differ from a band that connects while its activity records remain in the app. First note the band model, phone platform, whether the band was previously paired to another phone, and whether the band is showing its pairing or QR-code screen.

| What you see | Most useful first action | Do not do yet |
|---|---|---|
| The band was paired, then stopped reconnecting | Open Mi Fitness, tap Connect, verify Bluetooth, and remove a stale Bluetooth entry if the model’s instructions call for it. | Do not factory-reset before trying reconnection and a restart. |
| The phone cannot find the band during setup | Restart Mi Fitness, toggle phone Bluetooth off and on, clear saved pairing information, and scan from Mi Fitness. | Do not pair from the system Bluetooth screen alone. |
| The connection drops repeatedly | Permit Mi Fitness to run in the background and review battery-saving, auto-start and background-cleanup rules. | Do not assume the band is defective before checking background restrictions. |
| The band is connected but new records do not appear | Check Bluetooth, Mi Fitness permissions, background activity and the model-specific app-version requirement. | Do not reset until you understand what unsynced data could be lost. |
Reconnect a band that was already paired
1. Start in Mi Fitness
- Open Mi Fitness.
- Tap Connect, or open the add-device path used by your version of the app.
- Confirm that the phone’s Bluetooth switch is on.
- Keep the band close to the phone while the app searches.
Xiaomi’s pairing instructions return you to Mi Fitness for the actual binding process. The phone’s Bluetooth page is mainly useful for seeing whether an old relationship is blocking that process.

2. Remove a stale Bluetooth relationship
If the phone’s Bluetooth list says the band is connected but Mi Fitness cannot reconnect, open the system Bluetooth settings and select the band. Depending on the model and phone, Xiaomi calls the removal action Unpair, Forget, Ignore or an equivalent label. Use the model-specific action, confirm removal, then return to Mi Fitness and scan again. Do not create a second pairing by repeatedly selecting the band from the operating system’s list; the app needs to complete its own binding flow.
3. Restart both sides when the link remains stuck
- Close and reopen Mi Fitness.
- Restart the band using its on-screen power or restart command, if available.
- Restart the phone.
- Open Mi Fitness again and use Connect.
Xiaomi’s Smart Band 9 guidance specifically recommends reopening Mi Fitness after some out-of-range or phone-restart disconnects. A restart is a recovery step, not a replacement for removing stale pairing data when the Bluetooth record itself is the blocker.
4. Check battery-saving modes
A battery-saving mode on the phone or band can turn off Bluetooth or interrupt reconnection. Temporarily disable battery saver on both devices while pairing. If the connection returns, keep the power-saving setting off for Mi Fitness or create the phone’s permitted exception, using the wording provided by your phone maker.

Restart discovery
- Exit Mi Fitness and open it again.
- Turn the phone’s Bluetooth off, wait briefly, and turn it on again.
- Return to Mi Fitness and open Connect or Add device.
- Keep the tracker near the phone and wait for the scan to complete.
If a scan still returns nothing, continue with the saved-pairing and competing-phone checks below rather than repeatedly rescanning the same blocked state.
Delete saved pairing information
Open the phone’s system Bluetooth list and remove every saved entry for the band. Then start a fresh scan from Mi Fitness. This is especially important after a one-sided reset, when one device has been reset but the phone still retains the previous relationship. Xiaomi’s Smart Band 8 and Smart Band 10 instructions describe stale pairing data as a cause of discovery or binding failures.

Check for another phone
A band can still be associated with an old phone or respond to a nearby phone’s connection request.
- Turn Bluetooth off on an old phone that may still be bound to the band.
- If another nearby phone displays a connection prompt, reject that prompt while you pair with the intended phone.
- For devices using more than one phone on the same Xiaomi account, follow the model’s instructions for switching or adding phones instead of creating duplicate Bluetooth entries.
These checks matter even when the old phone is not actively being used: its saved relationship or automatic Bluetooth connection can prevent a new binding.

Verify region and network conditions
Xiaomi’s Smart Band 10 guidance says the Mi Fitness region should match the region where the device was purchased. Open the app’s region setting and correct it before trying again. Keep the phone online during binding when the model’s instructions require a network connection. A region mismatch can make a correctly powered band appear unavailable even though Bluetooth is functioning.
Put the band in pairing mode
The tracker must be showing its pairing or QR-code screen for a new setup. Navigate to that screen using the band’s own prompts. If it is still showing a normal watch face or an account already bound to another phone, Mi Fitness may not list it as a new device. If the band cannot reach its pairing screen and the preceding steps fail, use the model-specific factory-restore procedure only after considering the data-loss warning in the reset section.
Stop repeated disconnects
Keep Mi Fitness alive in the background
Ongoing connection and synchronization depend on Mi Fitness being allowed to run after you leave it. Xiaomi’s Smart Band 10 support directs users to the app’s background-permission settings and warns that battery saver can prevent the app from staying active.

- Open the phone’s app settings for Mi Fitness.
- Allow background activity or background use.
- Permit the app to run automatically if the phone provides an auto-start setting.
- Remove Mi Fitness from aggressive battery optimization or app-sleep lists.
- Do not swipe Mi Fitness away if your phone treats that gesture as a forced stop.
Menu labels vary by phone maker and software version. Look for settings named Battery, Background activity, Auto-start, Unrestricted, Never sleeping or Allow in background.
Android-specific checks
Android phones may apply several independent restrictions. Review Mi Fitness in the battery, app-permission and background-management sections. If your phone has a cleanup tool that closes unused apps, exempt Mi Fitness from that cleanup. Xiaomi’s Smart Band 8 guidance warns that background cleanup can remove the app from memory and interrupt reconnection. On Xiaomi or REDMI phones, also check whether the band has been placed on a Bluetooth blacklist; Xiaomi says a blacklist entry can block pairing and binding.
iPhone-specific checks
On iPhone, review Mi Fitness in the system settings for Bluetooth and background activity. Xiaomi’s Smart Band 8 guidance discusses iOS background cleanup, so avoid force-closing the app when you expect automatic synchronization. If iOS has removed the band’s Bluetooth permission or the app’s ability to refresh in the background, restore those permissions and reopen Mi Fitness.
Reduce avoidable radio interruptions
Keep the phone and band close while reconnecting, and temporarily disable battery saver during the test. If the band reconnects only after Mi Fitness is opened, that pattern points to a background restriction rather than a failed pairing. Correct the restriction before deleting the pairing again.
Fix a band that connects but will not sync records
Separate connection from synchronization
A Bluetooth connection indicator does not guarantee that Mi Fitness has permission to read, process or upload every record. Treat a connected-but-unsynced band as a synchronization problem.

- Confirm Bluetooth is enabled and that Mi Fitness shows the band as connected.
- Open the phone’s settings for Mi Fitness and verify the permissions required by your phone and model.
- Allow background activity so the app can complete synchronization after you leave it open.
- Open Mi Fitness and leave it in the foreground for a synchronization attempt.
- Check the app’s version against the official requirement for your exact band.
Xiaomi’s Smart Band 9 Pro guidance identifies Bluetooth, storage and background activity among the settings to review. The page also gives version thresholds for that model’s future records. Those thresholds are not universal: use the requirement stated for your own band rather than applying the Smart Band 9 Pro number to another Xiaomi tracker.
Check permissions without granting unrelated access
Permission labels differ by operating system. Review the Mi Fitness entry for the permissions named in your model’s instructions, including Bluetooth and storage where applicable, and allow background activity. If a permission is already allowed, toggle it off and on only if the phone’s settings page appears stuck, then reopen Mi Fitness. Do not assume that granting every available permission will fix a missing sync; the relevant permissions depend on the model and operating system.
Allow time for a first or delayed sync
Keep the band near the phone, open Mi Fitness and wait for the app to finish its synchronization attempt before changing another setting. If recent records remain absent, capture the last date visible in the app and then proceed to the version and reset checks. Avoid repeatedly resetting the band while records may still exist only on the device.

The band was reset but the phone was not
After a one-sided reset, the phone can retain a Bluetooth record for a device that now considers itself unpaired. Remove the old entry from the phone’s Bluetooth settings, place the band on its pairing or QR-code screen, and add it again from Mi Fitness. This state is different from an ordinary temporary disconnect because the two devices disagree about their binding.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe band is bound to another phone
Turn off Bluetooth on the previous phone, open Mi Fitness there if necessary to remove the device according to the model’s instructions, and then start the new pairing from the intended phone. If the old phone cannot be accessed, remove its saved Bluetooth record from the new phone and follow the band’s on-screen unbinding or restore prompt. A factory reset may be required by some models, but it should not be the first response when the original phone is available.

Several phones use one Xiaomi account
Smart Band 10 support includes guidance for multiple phones on one Xiaomi account and for nearby phones. Follow that model’s switching procedure and ensure that only the intended phone is attempting the binding. Do not infer that every Xiaomi tracker supports simultaneous active connections just because two phones share an account.
A Xiaomi or REDMI phone blocks the band
Check the phone’s Bluetooth blacklist or blocked-device list. Xiaomi identifies a blacklist entry as a possible reason that pairing and binding fail. Remove the band from that list, then clear any stale ordinary Bluetooth entry and retry through Mi Fitness.
Factory reset: the last troubleshooting step
A reset can clear device data and restore the pairing state, but it is not a harmless connectivity toggle. Xiaomi’s instructions use factory restore in unresolved discovery, binding and synchronization cases after simpler steps have failed.

- Open Mi Fitness and try a normal synchronization while the band is still connected.
- Record the band model and note the last date whose data appears in the app.
- Remove stale Bluetooth data only as described for the model; do not reset merely because the phone’s Bluetooth list looks untidy.
- Understand that unsynced data may not be recoverable after the reset.
- Make sure you know the Xiaomi account and sign-in details needed to bind the tracker again.
Perform the model-specific restore
- Use the band’s own Settings or system menu to choose the factory-reset or restore option, following the wording shown on that model.
- Wait for the band to return to its pairing or QR-code screen.
- On the phone, remove any remaining old Bluetooth entry for the band.
- Open Mi Fitness, choose Connect or Add device, and scan again.
- Complete the binding prompts and leave Mi Fitness open long enough to perform an initial synchronization.
The exact reset path varies by band and operating system. Do not substitute instructions for another model, and do not treat a reset as proof that the original problem was Bluetooth: it may simply erase the state that was blocking the app.
Use the model and platform instructions that match your tracker
Xiaomi’s support pages are not one universal procedure. The documented examples differ in emphasis:
| Documented example | Specific issue covered | How to apply it |
|---|---|---|
| Smart Band 8 | iOS background cleanup, Android background permissions and stale pairing after a one-sided reset. | Use these checks when your phone is closing Mi Fitness or the band and phone disagree about pairing; verify labels on your own platform. |
| Smart Band 9 | Reopening Mi Fitness after some out-of-range or phone-restart disconnects. | Try the reconnect sequence before deleting the device or resetting it. |
| Smart Band 9 Pro | Sync permissions and model-specific Mi Fitness version thresholds for future records. | Check the exact 9 Pro requirement if you own that model; do not generalize its version number. |
| Smart Band 10 | Background permissions, battery saver, multiple phones, nearby phones, region, binding network conditions and Xiaomi/REDMI Bluetooth blacklists. | Use those checks when a Band 10 is repeatedly disconnected, invisible during binding or blocked by another phone. |
If your model is not listed, use the same symptom-based order but follow the band’s own on-screen prompts and the current Mi Fitness requirement for that model. The official guidance does not establish one app version, reset path or permission set for every Xiaomi tracker.
A compact decision sequence
- Already paired? Open Mi Fitness and tap Connect.
- Bluetooth entry stuck? Remove or ignore the old entry using the model-specific action, then scan in Mi Fitness.
- Not found? Restart Mi Fitness, toggle Bluetooth, clear saved pairing data, check the pairing screen, region and nearby or old phones.
- Disconnects? Allow background activity, auto-start and unrestricted battery use; avoid battery saver and cleanup tools that close Mi Fitness.
- Connected but no records? Check Bluetooth, storage and other model-required permissions, background activity and the exact Mi Fitness version requirement.
- Still blocked? Consider a model-specific factory restore only after attempting synchronization and accepting that unsynced data may be lost.
This order preserves the most recoverable data and addresses the most common state mismatch first. It also keeps phone-platform and model-specific instructions in their proper place instead of applying an Android fix to an iPhone or a Smart Band 9 Pro requirement to a different tracker.
