You can usually improve a weak Infinity Kingdom march without rebuilding it from zero. First identify the activity that is exposing the weakness, then repair role coverage, elemental alignment, skills, equipment, gems, artifacts and formation in that order. Keep the Immortals you have already developed when they fit the plan, test one change at a time, and replace only a unit that solves a specific problem better than your invested option.
What a “weak team” usually means
Power displayed in the game is not a complete diagnosis. A march can lose because its damage is too low, its front line collapses, its energy cycle is poor, or its skills do not support the fight. The same lineup may perform acceptably against a Gnome and fail in player-versus-player combat because those activities reward different timing, control and durability.
Before changing an Immortal, record where the failure occurs and what you observe. Use the same activity for each comparison so that a different enemy, difficulty or battle objective does not disguise the effect of your change.

Choose the activity before touching the roster
Write down the exact target: player-versus-player, a boss, a Gnome, Well of Time, Mysterium or another progression stage. The official 2024 beginner guide treats different activities as reasons to select different combinations. That does not mean you need a separate, fully developed march for every mode; it means you should not judge a build by a fight it was not designed to handle.

Player-versus-player
Look for the reason you lose the opening exchange. If a fragile damage dealer is targeted before acting, the immediate fix may be positioning, protection or control rather than a new damage dealer. If you survive the opening but lose during the second skill cycle, inspect energy generation, healing and defensive cooldowns.
Gnomes and bosses
These fights commonly reward reliable damage over time and enough durability to complete the encounter. A control-heavy or highly defensive setup can appear safe while failing a damage requirement. Compare damage output only after confirming that the front line remains alive for the same length of time.
Well of Time, Mysterium and other progression content
Progression stages can impose unusual enemy compositions, restrictions or objectives. Keep a flexible core and adjust one specialist slot when the stage demands it. Do not discard a useful Immortal simply because it is less effective in one floor or event.
Think of the march as one system
Infinity Kingdom’s official composition guide describes synergy as the interaction between Immortals, elements, Exclusive Artifacts and skills that makes the whole team stronger than the sum of its parts. Your four Immortals and Dragon should therefore be evaluated as a package. A high-rarity unit with an unhelpful skill set can be less valuable to your current march than a lower-rarity unit whose role, element and upgrades already fit.
Use this order when auditing the system:
- Confirm the activity and failure point.
- Assign a clear job to every Immortal.
- Check whether the element and Dragon support the intended core.
- Match Tower of Knowledge skills to ultimate skills and the team’s win condition.
- Reassign equipment and stone-inlaid gems by role.
- Correct the formation and protect vulnerable units.
- Test the repaired core before considering a replacement.
Repair role coverage before replacing anyone
The official guide identifies four practical jobs: damage dealer, tank, support and healer. A unit can perform more than one job, but the march still needs answers to incoming damage and a credible way to end the fight. Count functions, not labels: two nominal supports that add no damage or mitigation can leave you with no finisher, while several damage dealers can collapse if nobody absorbs pressure.

When a team dies instantly, adding another attacker is usually the wrong first move. When it survives indefinitely but cannot meet a timer, adding more healing is unlikely to solve the real problem. Make the smallest role correction that addresses the observed failure.

Use elemental alignment as a direction, not a purge rule
The official lineup guide describes a march of four Immortals and a Dragon and explains that same-element bonuses stack. A coherent element is therefore a useful planning target when your available roster supports it. Alignment can improve the value of several units at once, but it does not automatically justify removing every off-element Immortal you have invested in.

Move toward a coherent element as you obtain compatible copies and can fund their skills, artifacts, gear and levels. The cost of rebuilding the entire march can outweigh a theoretical bonus if the replacement units are underdeveloped.
The detailed acquisition and spending advice in the lineup guide published in 2021 is dated. Use that guide for the composition concept, not as proof that an old event route, bundle or availability still applies. Check the current game client and current announcements before spending resources on an elemental transition.
Match Tower of Knowledge skills to ultimate skills
Open each Immortal’s ultimate description and ask what must happen for it to matter: a target may need to be controlled, a damage dealer may need an attack window, or a tank may need time to accumulate mitigation. Then review Tower of Knowledge skills for effects that support that sequence. A skill that is powerful in isolation can be inefficient if it triggers at the wrong time or competes with the team’s main plan.
Build around a simple win condition
- Burst plan: use skills that create a short, protected window for your primary damage dealer.
- Sustain plan: combine mitigation, healing and energy support so the team reaches later skill cycles.
- Control plan: coordinate disables or debuffs with the moment your damage is ready, rather than spreading effects randomly.
Do not strip every skill from an established unit to chase a theoretical combination. Save the current setup, make one swap, and compare the same stage or opponent. If the change improves one mode but harms the activity you care about, keep the original as a mode-specific preset.

Reassign equipment and gems by job
The composition guide recommends role-based equipment and stone-inlaid gems. Treat its advice as a checklist, not a universal best-in-slot formula.

Check equipment after every roster or preset change. Equipment is not automatically preserved by the team presets described in the official forum instructions, so a visually identical formation can perform differently if pieces remained on the previous march.
Fix positioning before assuming the units are wrong
Place tanks and high-defense Immortals in front and protect fragile damage and support units in the back, subject to the game’s targeting and troop rules. A strong back-line unit that is exposed to the first attacks may contribute less than a slightly weaker unit that survives long enough to cast.
Test one positional change at a time. If moving a damage dealer changes the target pattern, record whether the improvement came from reduced incoming damage, a different skill target or simply a different battle sequence. Positioning is a low-cost experiment and often reveals that the roster is adequate but arranged poorly.
Use presets for controlled experiments
Team presets can store Immortals, skills and artifact assignments, making it easier to preserve a working version while trying a repair. The forum instructions note that equipment must be reassigned manually, so write down or screenshot the gear layout before experimenting.
- Save your current formation as the baseline.
- Duplicate it into an unused preset.
- Change one variable: a position, one skill, one artifact or one Immortal.
- Recheck equipment manually and confirm gems are still on the intended unit.
- Run the same activity at the same difficulty and note survival time, damage contribution and whether the failure point moved.
- Keep the change only if it improves the target activity without creating a larger weakness.
This is a practical testing method, not a published controlled experiment. Battle variance can affect a single result, so use several comparable attempts before treating a small difference as meaningful.
Replace only when a candidate solves a defined problem
A replacement is justified when it improves the actual lineup, not merely when its individual power or rarity is higher. Compare the candidate with the unit already invested in across five questions:

- Does it fill a missing role or duplicate a job you already have?
- Does its element support the core and Dragon you can realistically build?
- Do its ultimate and available Tower of Knowledge skills advance the march’s win condition?
- Can you fund its levels, upgrades, equipment, gems and artifact without weakening the rest of the team?
- Is it better for the activity you actually play, rather than only for a current ranking list?
Make a partial transition when the answer is yes but the candidate is not ready to replace the established unit. Develop the new Immortal alongside the core, then switch after its key skills and gear are competitive. This avoids paying the full cost of a rebuild while preserving a functional march.
What the published beginner examples can—and cannot—tell you
The official forum beginner guide published on March 27, 2024 illustrates gradual development rather than a single mandatory roster. Its early Earth example names Alexander or Attila, Brynhild, Merlin and Zenobia, then discusses unlocking Hippolyta and Yoshitsune for particular activities and possible later substitutions. Those names are examples for an early progression path, not universal prescriptions.
The same guide describes transition ideas for Water, Fire and Lightning teams. It does not make those paths valid for every server, season, account level or current game version. Use the examples to understand the method: start with accessible, compatible roles; unlock specialists for activities that need them; and replace units when the new combination is actually funded and better suited to the target.
The guide also emphasizes that there is room to experiment and to use flexible Immortals in different marches. That is especially relevant when your account has already invested heavily in a unit that is not considered part of a current popular lineup.

The tank falls before the first ultimate
Move the highest-defense unit forward, inspect defensive equipment and resilience, and verify that healing or mitigation skills can trigger early enough. If the tank still collapses, check whether the activity contains a damage spike that requires control or a different front-line pairing. Only then consider a sturdier replacement.

The healer casts but the team still dies
Check timing, energy regeneration and target selection. A healer cannot compensate for a front line that takes lethal damage before the heal lands. Improve mitigation or positioning first, then evaluate whether the healer’s role is appropriate for that activity.

The march survives but misses the damage requirement
Identify which Immortal supplies most of the damage and concentrate offensive gear, gems and supportive skills there. Remove overlapping defensive or utility choices from the damage dealer only after confirming that it can survive. If the team still lacks a finisher, test a replacement in that specific slot instead of replacing the entire march.
One mode improves while another gets worse
Keep separate presets for materially different objectives. A control or sustain adjustment that helps a long progression fight may reduce burst in player-versus-player combat. The correct answer is often two specialized versions sharing the same developed core.
A new unit looks stronger on a ranking list
Rankings change with patches and do not account for your copies, upgrades, artifacts or available gear. The independent 2026 guide recommends checking current tier information because the meta changes, but current in-game details and authoritative updates should decide whether the investment is worthwhile for your account.

Spend resources in an order that limits waste
When resources are tight, prioritize changes that improve several parts of the march at once. Role-correct equipment and a better formation cost less than rebuilding an Immortal. Skill changes can be tested before committing to a new roster, and a coherent elemental core can be developed gradually as compatible units become available.
Before spending on a replacement, verify the current acquisition route, required copies, upgrade materials and whether the unit can use your existing gear. Old guides may describe events, bundles or prices that no longer exist. No physical product is needed to perform this repair; the relevant decisions are entirely inside the game.
When a full rebuild is finally reasonable
Replace more than one Immortal only when the existing march has a structural problem that targeted fixes cannot solve: several units share the same job, the element cannot be completed with realistic acquisitions, or the core’s skills and artifacts conflict with the activity you need to clear. Even then, transition in stages. Keep the strongest compatible core, develop one replacement, test it, and move the next slot only after the first change proves useful.
There is no universally strongest lineup that can be stated without your roster, progression, target activity and current game balance. A repaired, well-funded team with clear roles will often outperform a nominally superior lineup that is only partially upgraded. Use the current client to verify availability and balance, preserve working presets, and let observed battle behavior—not rarity alone—decide each substitution.
