Start by identifying whether the problem is availability, account access, an online service, the launcher, storage permissions, or damaged files. Confirm the game has released and is owned by the signed-in account, restart your device, check service status and internet access, install pending updates, then use the cache, repair, or account-linking step for your launcher.
The exact fix depends on whether you are using the EA app, Steam, or Epic Games Store on Windows or Mac, or a PlayStation or Xbox console. Follow only the branch that matches your setup.
First, match the symptom to the likely problem
Do not repeatedly retry the same download before checking which layer is failing. A game that is not released yet needs a different fix from one that reaches 4 GB and stops, and a completed download with missing files needs verification rather than another cache reset.

1. Confirm the game is available and you are using the right account
Check the release state
A pre-purchase or a game that has not reached its release date cannot be downloaded just because it appears in your library. In Epic Games Store, open the game’s details and check the Available field. Epic specifically recommends this check for purchases that are not yet released. See Epic’s purchase-download guidance.

For an EA app, Steam, or console purchase, confirm the title is released in your region and that the storefront is showing the account that made the purchase or holds the subscription. Sign out and back in only after checking which account is active; switching accounts can make a valid entitlement appear to be missing.
Open the storefront that owns the license
Use the launcher associated with the purchase. An EA game bought through Epic is a special case: Epic says the EA app is required, and the EA and Epic accounts must be linked. If the EA app was not installed automatically, install it manually, sign in to the EA account that should receive the game, and complete the account-linking flow. The requirements are listed in Epic’s EA-game installation instructions.
Do not assume that seeing a purchase in one storefront means every other launcher will show an install button. The entitlement can be valid while the wrong account, region, or storefront is open. Record which email or account name is displayed before changing anything, and avoid linking a second account just to test it; that can make later support checks harder.
2. Restart the device, services, connection, and updates
Restart before changing files
Close the launcher, restart the PC or console, and try the download once. This clears a temporary launcher or platform process without changing the installed game.
Check service status
Open the live status pages for EA and the platform you are using before treating the problem as a local fault. A service interruption can prevent authentication, entitlement checks, downloads, or updates even when your home internet is working.
EA’s troubleshooting page for STAR WARS: Zero Company notes that a single-player game can still need connectivity for downloading, installing updates, and accessing platform services. That is a reason to check your connection and service status for a Star Wars title, not proof that every Star Wars game has identical online or account requirements. Install pending updates
Install updates for the game launcher, the game itself, and the operating system or console firmware. A launcher that is out of date can fail before it reaches the file-download stage. After updating, restart once more and retry from the library rather than from an old notification or shortcut.

Verify the connection without assuming bandwidth is the cause
Confirm that the device can open ordinary websites and that the launcher is online. If you use Wi-Fi, test from a stable connection; if possible, temporarily use a wired connection. Do not conclude that a slow download means the game files are corrupt: first rule out a service problem, an interrupted connection, or an account check that never completed.
A connection test does not prove that the publisher’s download service is healthy, so compare both checks: your device must be online and EA or the platform must be operating normally. If status pages show an incident, wait for service restoration instead of repeatedly clearing caches or deleting partially downloaded data.
3. Fix downloads in the EA app
Clear the EA app cache
EA identifies cache clearing as a first-line step for games that will not download, install, or load:
- Open the EA app.
- Choose Help.
- Select App Recovery.
- Choose Clear Cache.
- Let the app restart, then try the download again.

It targets the EA app’s temporary state, so use it before removing a working installation. If the app does not restart normally after recovery, reopen it yourself, sign in to the owning account, and check the library again.
If the download stops at exactly 4 GB on PC
Check the format of the drive selected as the install location. EA identifies FAT32 as a possible cause because FAT32 cannot handle an individual file larger than 4 GB. Check the format and available space of the existing target drive first; this symptom alone is not a reason to buy a new drive or replace hardware.
If the target is FAT32, select an install location whose file-system limits support the game’s files, following the operating system’s storage guidance. Back up important data before changing a drive’s format, because reformatting can erase its contents.

Do not treat every stall at the same percentage as a FAT32 failure. EA’s warning is specifically about a PC download that stops at 4 GB. A different stopping point calls for connection, service, free-space, and write-permission checks before changing storage.
Handle Create Folder Error as a permissions problem
EA says Create Folder Error during installation, an update, or a repair indicates a permissions issue. Check that your account can write to the selected library and game folders, and use the permissions instructions in EA’s support article for your operating system. Changing the download repeatedly will not fix a folder that the launcher cannot create or modify.
Make sure the selected library still exists and that the drive is available to the operating system. If you move the library, select the new location in the launcher rather than pointing it at an arbitrary subfolder. Keep the original error text for support; “Create Folder Error” identifies a different problem from a failed entitlement or an offline service.
Reinstall the EA app only after the basic recovery steps
If cache clearing, updates, and permission checks do not resolve the installation, EA suggests reinstalling the EA app. Reinstall the launcher rather than deleting game folders at random. Before removing anything, note the library location and make sure you can sign back in to the account that owns the game.
4. Repair or verify files after a partial or completed download
EA app
If the download appears complete but the game reports missing or damaged files, use the game’s Repair option in the EA app. Repair compares the local installation with the launcher’s expected files and replaces files that fail the check. Use Steam’s file-verification function for the affected game when the installation finished but launching fails or files are reported as corrupt. If Steam cannot install or update the files, also inspect the library location and security software. Do not disable antivirus protection permanently. If security software is suspected, use its documented exception or quarantine-review process and restore protection after testing.

Epic Games Store
For an Epic installation that completes with errors, use Epic’s verification option for the game. For an EA title purchased through Epic, make sure the EA app is installed and the accounts remain linked before verifying; otherwise the platform may not have the credentials needed to complete the installation.
Verification is appropriate after files exist locally. It will not make an unreleased game downloadable, repair an account that does not own the title, or bypass a platform outage. Resolve those higher-level issues first so the verification result is meaningful.
5. Console-specific checks
On PlayStation or Xbox, begin with the platform-neutral steps: restart the console, confirm the account that purchased or subscribed to the game, check the platform and EA service status, install system and game updates, and verify that the console is online.
Cache-clearing, storage-management, and reinstall menus vary by console generation, system software, and the individual Star Wars title. There is no single EA app cache path that applies to a console, and PC instructions such as checking FAT32 or using a Windows folder permission do not transfer to PlayStation or Xbox. Use the title’s current platform support instructions if the general checks fail, and avoid deleting saved data unless the platform or publisher specifically tells you to do so.
Keep console troubleshooting separate from PC troubleshooting. A console download that stops does not establish a Windows file-system problem, and a PC Create Folder Error does not describe a console storage fault. State the exact console model and title when asking support for the correct menu path.

7. Use the failure pattern to choose the next branch
The game is unavailable before downloading
- Check the release date or Epic’s Available field.
- Confirm the purchase or subscription is on the signed-in account.
- Open the correct storefront or launcher.
The download button does nothing
- Restart the device and launcher.
- Check EA and platform service status.
- Confirm internet access and install pending updates.
- Clear the EA app cache if you are using EA app on PC or Mac.
The download stalls at a repeatable point
- At 4 GB on EA app for PC, check whether the target drive is FAT32.
- At another point, check connection stability and service status before assuming file corruption.
- Check available space and that the launcher can write to the selected library.
An installation reports a folder or permission error

8. Avoid fixes that can make diagnosis harder
- Do not buy a new drive, paid repair utility, or replacement console based only on a failed download.
- Do not reformat a drive until you have confirmed its format and backed up important data.
- Do not delete saved data or game folders at random; note the library location first.
- Do not permanently disable antivirus protection. If it interferes, use its documented exception or quarantine-review process.
- Do not apply Windows folder-permission instructions to a PlayStation or Xbox.
- Do not infer that a single-player title is completely offline during downloading, updating, or platform authentication.
9. What to send support when nothing works
Contact EA support for an EA-account, EA-app, or EA-published-game problem, or contact the platform’s support team for a storefront, console, or platform-service problem. Give support enough information to reproduce the failure:
- The exact Star Wars game title.
- Platform: Windows PC, Mac, PlayStation, or Xbox.
- Launcher or storefront: EA app, Steam, or Epic Games Store.
- The account and storefront used for the purchase or subscription.
- The full error message or code, copied exactly.
- Whether the failure occurs before downloading, at a repeatable percentage or file size, during installation, or during file verification.
- Available disk space and, on PC, the target drive’s format when a storage-related error is involved.

Include screenshots or launcher logs if the support form requests them, but do not post passwords, authentication codes, or payment details. This information helps the team decide whether the fault is entitlement, service connectivity, launcher state, permissions, storage format, or damaged files instead of sending you through unrelated fixes.
