Start by identifying your exact INZONE model and connection method. Sony uses different procedures for USB transceivers, Bluetooth, wired connections, H9 II, and INZONE Buds. For most wireless problems, turn on both devices, use the correct transceiver switch position, connect the transceiver directly to the computer or PS5, select the INZONE headset as the audio output, and re-pair before attempting a factory initialization.
First identify the model and connection
Do not apply one INZONE headset procedure to every model. Sony’s support coverage separates the H9 II and INZONE Buds from the H9, H7, H5, H6 Air, and H3. The available connection route also changes the diagnosis: a USB-transceiver problem is different from Bluetooth pairing, and both differ from a cable or output-selection problem.
- USB transceiver: The headset communicates through the supplied wireless USB adapter. This is the route to troubleshoot when the headset does not appear after plugging in the adapter or when wireless audio drops out.
- Bluetooth: The headset pairs directly with a phone, computer, or another Bluetooth source. Bluetooth profile selection and the source’s volume and output settings matter.
- Wired: The headset uses an audio cable. Use the exact model’s Sony instructions because the reviewed support pages do not define one universal wired procedure for every INZONE product.
Find the model name on the headset, its packaging, or the product label before changing settings. H9 II instructions are not interchangeable with H9 instructions, and INZONE Buds have a separate Bluetooth limitation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteUse this connection-specific checklist
| Connection route | Early checks | Important model or reset detail |
|---|---|---|
| USB transceiver | Headset and host powered on; adapter fully seated; correct adapter switch position; direct connection to the computer or PS5 | Re-pair before initialization. H9 II uses PC for a computer and OTHER for game consoles and smartphones. |
| Bluetooth | Headset and source powered on; audio playing; source volume raised; correct audio profile and output selected | Initialization removes saved Bluetooth pairing information, so every device must be paired again. |
| Wired | Follow the exact model’s cable and output instructions | Sony’s reviewed pages do not provide one procedure covering every wired INZONE model. |
If a headset says it is connected but you hear nothing, skip straight to the output-selection checks in the relevant section. A successful connection does not guarantee that the computer, console, application, or phone is sending sound to the INZONE device.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
A quick way to narrow the fault
Use the symptom, not just the connection icon, to choose the next step:
- No connection at all: Check power, transceiver seating or Bluetooth availability, the host switch position, and whether the host supports that route. Re-pair only after those checks.
- Connected but silent: Treat this first as an output, profile, mute, or source-volume problem. Select INZONE in both the host and the application where separate selections exist.
- Sound that skips or is distorted: Check headset software, nearby radio interference, obstacles, direct transceiver connection, and the switch position. Interference troubleshooting is aimed at unstable audio, not a device that never pairs.
- Only one phone or computer fails: Restart that host and remove its stale Bluetooth entry if applicable. A second host can help show whether the issue follows the headset or remains with the original device.
This sequence prevents a factory reset from being used to solve a simple routing mistake.
Fix an INZONE headset using its USB transceiver
1. Power on both ends of the connection
- Turn on the INZONE headset.
- Turn on the computer, PS5, or other supported host.
- Confirm the USB transceiver is inserted. If the host does not detect it, remove it and insert it again firmly.
A transceiver that is only partly inserted can leave the headset powered on while the host has no usable wireless link. Check the adapter itself as well as the headset: a lit headset does not prove that the host has recognized the adapter.

2. Set the transceiver switch for the host
Many INZONE adapters have a host-selection switch. Use the position specified by the guide for your model; labels are not identical across the range. For H9 II, Sony specifies PC when the adapter is connected to a computer and OTHER for game consoles and smartphones.
Do not assume that a switch marked for one host works the same way on another model. If the switch is wrong, move it to the correct position, disconnect the adapter, reconnect it, and allow the host to detect it again.
3. Connect directly and try another USB port
Plug the transceiver directly into the computer or PS5 rather than routing it through a hub or another device. If there is still no connection, try a different USB port on the same host.
Sony’s H9 II instructions specifically state that the transceiver is compatible with PC and PS5, while other devices are not guaranteed. Sony Support’s wording is: Other devices, like TVs, are not guaranteed to work.
A television USB port therefore should not be treated as a supported substitute for a computer or PS5 connection in that guide.

4. Re-pair the headset and adapter
Re-pairing is the next escalation after checking power, seating, and the switch. Use the exact model’s pairing procedure. For H9 II, Sony instructs you to hold the transceiver’s connect button and the headset’s power button for about five seconds or longer, then follow the indicator lights and voice prompts.
Keep the headset and transceiver within about one metre during the H9 II pairing attempt. If pairing fails, restart the computer or PS5, retry the pairing sequence, and reconnect the transceiver if necessary. These steps come from Sony’s H9 II pairing guidance and should not be assumed to describe every other INZONE model.

5. Select the INZONE output on the host
After the transceiver pairs, check the operating system’s sound output and the application’s own audio-output setting. Choose the relevant INZONE headset rather than the computer’s speakers, monitor, television, or another connected device.
For the H9, H7, H5, H6 Air, and H3 troubleshooting pages, Sony directs users to verify both the device output and the application output. This matters when the headset appears connected but a game, browser, or media player continues sending sound elsewhere.
When the headset is connected but there is no sound
Check the source before changing the headset
- Start audio playback so there is an active signal to test.
- Raise the volume on the computer, console, phone, or other source.
- Confirm the source is not muted.
- Open the application’s sound settings and select the INZONE output if the application has its own device menu.
- Disconnect and reconnect the headset or transceiver, then restart the host.
These checks distinguish a routing or volume problem from a failed wireless connection. A connection indicator alone does not prove that the source is sending media audio to the headset. Also check whether another connected device, such as a monitor or television, has become the default output after the headset was paired.
For Bluetooth music, use the media-audio profile
Sony says music playback should use Bluetooth profile A2DP. Profiles HFP and HSP are intended for call-oriented audio. If a phone or computer has connected the headset for calls but not media, open its Bluetooth or sound settings and select the INZONE device for music output.
Turn the headset and source off and on, disconnect and reconnect the Bluetooth link, and retry playback before initializing the headset. If the source offers separate choices for calls and media, enable the media-audio route.
Bluetooth pairing and no-sound troubleshooting
Pair only after confirming the source is ready
- Keep the headset powered on and within the source’s normal Bluetooth range while pairing.
- Make sure the source’s Bluetooth function is enabled.
- Remove an old or failed INZONE entry from the source’s saved Bluetooth devices if the source refuses to reconnect, then start pairing again using the model’s instructions.
- After the connection succeeds, choose the headset as the active media-output device.
The exact button sequence differs by model, so use the guide for the model printed on your headset rather than borrowing the H9 II or INZONE Buds sequence. If pairing succeeds but calls work and music does not, revisit the A2DP media selection instead of repeating the pairing sequence indefinitely.
Restart before initializing
A restart turns the equipment off and on without deliberately erasing saved pairings. Initialization or factory reset is more disruptive: Sony says it deletes Bluetooth pairing information. Every phone, computer, or other Bluetooth source must be paired again afterward.
Use this order: reconnect, restart the host, retry pairing, and only then consider initialization. Tell anyone who uses the headset that saved Bluetooth devices will have to be set up again after an initialization.
Special case: INZONE Buds and devices without LE Audio
Sony documents a specific no-sound condition for INZONE Buds: a Bluetooth connection to a device that does not support LE Audio can be established without producing audio. This is a documented limitation for INZONE Buds, not a universal explanation for every INZONE headset.

For that case, Sony’s specified remedy is to initialize the INZONE Buds and reconnect using the USB transceiver. Because initialization clears saved Bluetooth pairing information, plan to pair the required devices again after the procedure. Do not apply this Buds-specific remedy to another INZONE model unless its own support guide says to do so.

Interference is most relevant when audio connects but becomes noisy, distorted, or intermittent. It is a different symptom from a headset that never appears to the host.
- Update the headset software using the software and procedure specified for your model.
- Move the headset and transceiver away from likely radio interference or physical obstacles.
- Use a direct computer or PS5 connection for the transceiver and verify its switch position again.
- Test after removing nearby sources of wireless interference.
Sony’s guidance treats software updates and interference checks as remedies for degraded USB-transceiver audio. They do not replace the pairing and output checks for a headset that has no connection at all.
Wired connections: do not borrow wireless steps
A wired INZONE setup does not use the USB-transceiver pairing sequence. Confirm the exact model’s cable connection and audio-output instructions, then select the INZONE route in the host or application if it offers an output menu. The Sony pages covered here do not define one cable procedure that applies to every wired-capable INZONE model, so avoid forcing a Bluetooth or transceiver reset onto a cable-only symptom.
If the headset works wirelessly but not through a cable, record that distinction for support. Conversely, if wired audio works while the transceiver does not, concentrate on adapter seating, switch position, compatibility, and re-pairing rather than repeatedly changing application volume.

When to initialize the headset
Initialization is an escalation step, not the first response to a missing audio signal. Use it after you have checked the host, adapter seating, switch position, output selection, source volume, Bluetooth profile, restart, and re-pairing.
What initialization changes
- Saved Bluetooth pairing information is deleted.
- Previously paired phones and computers must be paired again.
- The exact button combination and indicator sequence depend on the model.
Follow the model-specific Sony procedure and watch for the stated indicator or voice confirmation. If the headset still will not connect after initialization and a fresh pairing attempt, the problem may involve the host, adapter, headset hardware, or unsupported device compatibility rather than an old pairing record.
Model-specific cautions
H9 II
Use PC on the transceiver for a computer and OTHER for game consoles and smartphones. Sony documents PC and PS5 compatibility for the transceiver and says other devices, including TVs, are not guaranteed. H9 II re-pairing uses the transceiver connect button and headset power button, held for about five seconds or longer, with the devices kept within about one metre during the attempt.
H9, H7, H5, H6 Air, and H3
Sony’s shared troubleshooting coverage for these models emphasizes checking the device and application audio-output selections. Their adapter switch labels and pairing details may differ from H9 II, so use the instructions for the exact model.

INZONE Buds
Use the separate Buds instructions for the LE Audio limitation and the USB-transceiver reconnection remedy. A Bluetooth connection without sound on a non-LE-Audio device is not evidence that every INZONE product needs the same reset.
If the USB transceiver is lost or damaged
Sony says replacement INZONE transceivers are available. Check compatibility with the exact headset model through Sony Parts and Accessories before buying; the support information does not provide one part number that fits every INZONE product.
Do not assume a generic USB Bluetooth dongle is a universal replacement. The supplied transceiver and headset may require model-specific pairing and compatibility, and Sony’s support instructions do not establish a generic adapter as a supported substitute. Verify the model name before ordering, because a physically similar adapter may not be interchangeable.
What to record before contacting support
- The exact INZONE model, such as H9 II, H9, H7, H5, H6 Air, H3, or INZONE Buds.
- The connection route: USB transceiver, Bluetooth, or wired.
- The host device and, for a transceiver, the adapter switch position.
- Whether the headset appears in the host’s output list.
- Whether the failure is no connection, no sound despite connection, or distorted/skipping sound.
- Whether restarting, re-pairing, and initialization changed the behavior.
This information lets support match the procedure and any replacement part to the correct model instead of applying instructions from another INZONE product.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my Sony INZONE headset say connected but have no sound?
The source may still be using speakers, a monitor, or another output. Select the INZONE headset in the host’s sound settings and, where available, in the application’s own audio menu. Raise source volume, remove mute, and confirm that Bluetooth music is using A2DP rather than a call-only profile.
How do I pair an INZONE headset with its USB dongle?
Pairing controls differ by model. For H9 II, set the transceiver for the correct host, keep it and the headset within about one metre, hold the transceiver connect button and headset power button for about five seconds or longer, and follow the indicators and voice prompts. Use the exact model guide for other headsets.
Can I plug the INZONE transceiver into my TV?
Do not assume so. Sony’s H9 II guidance covers PC and PS5 and states that other devices, including TVs, are not guaranteed. Use a supported host and a direct connection where Sony specifies one.
Should I reset before trying to pair again?
No. Restart the headset and host, reconnect the adapter or Bluetooth link, and retry pairing first. Initialization deletes saved Bluetooth pairing information and requires every Bluetooth device to be paired again.

Does a generic USB Bluetooth dongle replace a lost INZONE adapter?
Not as a universal solution. Sony says replacement transceivers are available, but compatibility must be checked for the exact model through Sony Parts and Accessories. Generic dongles are not established as supported replacements.
What if sound is distorted rather than absent?
Update the headset software, check for radio interference or obstacles, connect the transceiver directly to the computer or PS5, and verify its switch position. These steps target noisy, skipping, or unstable wireless audio.
Limits of the compatibility advice
The procedures summarized here come from Sony USA Support pages accessed on October 13, 2026. They cover H9 II, H9, H7, H5, H6 Air, H3, and INZONE Buds, but they are not a complete guide for every INZONE product or every region. Sony can change software versions, support wording, and replacement-part availability. Match the instructions to the exact model and region shown on your device.
