If your PS5 will not connect to Wi‑Fi or a game download is stuck, first determine whether PlayStation Network is unavailable, your whole home network is offline, the console’s wireless connection is failing, or only one download is stalled. Check PlayStation Network status, run the PS5 connection test, and then try a wired LAN connection before changing advanced settings. For a download that has already started, pause and resume it; if that fails, cancel and delete it, then retry from Game Library.
The sequence below moves from low-risk checks to targeted recovery. It also explains what each result means, so you do not rebuild the database or change router settings when the real problem is a temporary service outage or a damaged download queue.
Identify which problem you actually have
“Won’t connect to Wi‑Fi” and “won’t download games” can describe different failures. Use the scope and symptom in this table to choose the right branch.

This distinction prevents a common mistake: treating every download error as proof that Wi‑Fi is broken. A console can pass its internet test while PlayStation Network is under maintenance, and it can be online while one installation has stalled. Conversely, a failed connection test affects more than one game and should be diagnosed as a network problem first.

1. Check PlayStation Network status before changing anything
Open the official PlayStation Network status page from a phone or computer and look for an incident or scheduled maintenance affecting account management, gaming, the Store or downloads. PlayStation’s own download guidance puts this check near the start because a service-side problem can prevent a download even when the PS5 reports a healthy local connection.
If an outage or maintenance is reported, leave the router and console settings alone. Wait until the service returns, then retry the sign-in or download. Repeatedly deleting a game or changing DNS during an outage can create additional work without addressing the cause.
If the status page shows no incident, that does not prove the game’s download server is healthy, but it makes a local connection or queue issue more worth investigating. Note the time and any listed affected service if you later contact Support.
2. Run the PS5 internet connection test
- On the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Select Network.
- Choose Test Internet Connection.
Use the result together with the symptom, rather than treating a single pass or fail as a complete diagnosis. A successful test shows that the console can reach the network at that moment; it does not guarantee that PlayStation Network is available or that a particular game server is responding. A failed test confirms a connection problem but does not, by itself, identify whether the router, ISP, wireless path or console is responsible.
Run the test after each meaningful change, such as re-entering the Wi‑Fi details, restarting the router or connecting a LAN cable. Record whether it reports a successful internet connection and whether the problem is still limited to one download. That simple before-and-after record is more useful than trying several advanced settings at once.
Verify the saved Wi‑Fi details
From Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection, select your home wireless network. Check that it is the intended network, enter the current password exactly, and select the security method used by the router. A changed Wi‑Fi password, a similarly named neighboring network or a router security change can make an otherwise healthy PS5 appear to have an internet fault.
If the network is not listed, move the console closer to the router and scan again. If it appears but refuses authentication, re-enter the password instead of repeatedly testing with an old saved profile. Confirm the router is broadcasting the network you expect before concluding that the console cannot see Wi‑Fi.

3. Apply the simple wireless fixes
Reduce distance and interference
Temporarily move the PS5 closer to the router and remove avoidable obstacles between them. Walls, cabinets and nearby electronics can weaken or disrupt the wireless signal. This is a diagnostic move as well as a possible permanent fix: if the connection works only when the console is close to the router, coverage or interference is more likely than a damaged download.
Restart the console
Restart the PS5 normally, then run Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection again. A restart clears a transient network state without deleting installed games, saved data or the download queue.
Reconfigure the wireless connection
If the console still cannot connect, return to Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection, select the network and set it up again. Re-enter the password and confirm the router’s security method. Do not jump to manual IP, DNS, MTU or proxy values while the basic wireless profile has not yet been verified; those settings can introduce new errors and are difficult to troubleshoot without network information from your ISP or administrator.
Change one thing at a time. If moving the console fixes the connection, restore its usual position to confirm whether distance is the deciding factor. If a fresh wireless setup fails in the same location, compare it with wired LAN before assuming the PS5 itself needs repair.
4. Try a wired LAN connection to isolate Wi‑Fi
If you can temporarily run an Ethernet LAN cable from the router to the PS5, use it as a diagnostic test. PlayStation recommends trying a wired connection for some network errors because it removes the wireless signal path from the equation. A cable is optional; no particular brand, speed or length is required by the guidance.
- Connect the LAN cable to the router and the PS5.
- Open Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection.
- Select Set Up Wired LAN.
- Choose Connect.
- Run Test Internet Connection.
Interpret the outcome carefully:
- Wired works and Wi‑Fi fails: concentrate on wireless distance, interference, the saved Wi‑Fi profile and router wireless settings. You can keep using wired LAN if that is practical.
- Both wired and Wi‑Fi fail: investigate the router, modem, ISP and PlayStation Network before assuming the PS5 hardware is defective. A wired test cannot rule out a broader service or router problem.
- Wired connects but downloads still fail: the local link is probably not the only issue. Check service status and follow the stalled-download steps below.
The wired result is a comparison, not a guarantee. It isolates one variable—the radio link—but the same router, ISP and PlayStation services still carry the traffic. That is why a successful LAN test should lead to download-specific checks rather than an immediate conclusion that every wireless setting is wrong.
5. Restart the modem and router correctly
For the PlayStation network error guidance associated with NW-102650-4, PlayStation instructs users to turn off both the router and modem, wait at least five minutes, and then restart them. Use this order:

- Turn off the router and modem.
- Leave both devices off for at least five minutes.
- Turn on the modem and wait for it to finish connecting to the ISP.
- Turn on the router and wait for its Wi‑Fi network to return.
- On the PS5, run Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection.
Do not judge the result while the modem is still negotiating its ISP connection or while the router’s wireless network is only partially back. If other devices remain offline after the restart, the next step is the ISP rather than a PS5 DNS change.

If the router manufacturer provides firmware updates, consult its instructions before changing advanced options. Firmware menus and update procedures differ by model, so do not guess at a setting based on a different router.
6. Fix a download that is stuck while the PS5 is online
When web browsing, PSN sign-in or the connection test works but one game will not progress, treat it as a download-queue problem first. The key symptom is scope: one item is stalled while the console otherwise reaches online services.
Pause and resume
- Open Downloads/Uploads on the PS5.
- Select the stalled game or update.
- Choose Pause.
- Wait briefly, then select Resume.
Watch whether the item leaves the waiting state and begins transferring. If it resumes, let the download complete before starting another large installation. If it immediately returns to the same error, move to the cancel-and-delete step rather than repeatedly toggling pause.
Cancel, delete and retry
If pause and resume does not help, open Downloads/Uploads again, select the item, choose Cancel and Delete, and then start the download from Game Library. This removes the incomplete download data so the console can create a fresh transfer. Make sure you select the correct game or update; deleting an item from the queue is different from deleting a purchased license, and your purchase remains associated with your account.

Before retrying, check PlayStation Network status, run the internet test and install current PS5 system software. A service interruption, an outdated system component or a temporary network condition can make a newly recreated download fail in the same way as the original.
7. Handle update-specific errors and persistent installation failures
Error CE-107863-5
For CE-107863-5, PlayStation’s guidance includes retrying the installation from Game Library. If the network is congested, trying again later may succeed without any configuration change. Do not interpret one failed attempt as proof that the console, router or game license is permanently damaged.

Safe Mode options
For persistent download or update trouble after the basic checks, the official update guidance includes Safe Mode options to Clear Cache and Rebuild Database. Use these only for the update or installation branch, not as the first response to an ordinary Wi‑Fi authentication failure. Read the on-screen warning before confirming any Safe Mode operation and do not interrupt the process.
Safe Mode does not replace the earlier checks. If PlayStation Network is unavailable or the modem has no ISP connection, clearing a cache cannot restore that service. Likewise, if the PS5 connects over Wi‑Fi but not at all over wired LAN, continue investigating the network path before treating database maintenance as the answer.

IPv6 and IPv4
PS5 supports IPv6 connections but does not support IPv6-only networks. If your router is configured as IPv6-only, change it to use IPv4 as well and consult the router manufacturer’s instructions. The exact setting name and location depend on the router.
“PS5® consoles support IPv6 network connections but do not support IPv6-only network connections.”
An IPv6-capable network is not the same as an IPv6-only network. Do not disable IPv6 automatically if the router is already providing IPv4; the relevant problem is an IPv6-only configuration.
IP address, DNS, MTU and proxy
The PS5 setup screens expose manual IP address, DNS, MTU and proxy settings. These are advanced controls, not universal speed or reliability fixes. PlayStation advises asking your ISP or network administrator if you are unfamiliar with them. Entering an address, gateway or proxy value that does not match the network can prevent the console from connecting at all.

Use manual values only when your network provider or administrator gives you exact settings, and record the original configuration so you can undo the change. If the problem began immediately after a manual change, return the connection to its automatic/default configuration and test again.
Use the results to choose the next action
- Check service scope: if PlayStation reports an outage or maintenance, wait and retry later.
- Check home-network scope: if every device is offline, restart the modem and router and contact the ISP if service does not return.
- Check the PS5 link: verify the Wi‑Fi network and password, reduce wireless distance, restart the console and run the connection test.
- Compare connection types: use Set Up Wired LAN to determine whether Wi‑Fi is the distinguishing failure.
- Check the symptom: if only one game is stalled while the PS5 is online, pause/resume, then cancel/delete and retry from Game Library.
- Check software and error guidance: install current system software and follow the official instructions for the exact error code, including Safe Mode cache or database options when the update guidance calls for them.
- Escalate informed: provide the ISP, router manufacturer or PlayStation Support with the test result, whether wired LAN worked, the exact error code and which recovery steps you already completed.
When to contact your ISP, router maker or PlayStation Support
Contact the ISP when the modem cannot establish service, multiple devices remain offline after the five-minute restart, or you need approved IPv4, IP, DNS, MTU or proxy values. Contact the router manufacturer for firmware instructions or model-specific wireless and IPv6 settings. Contact PlayStation Support when the home network works on other devices and over wired LAN but the PS5 continues to fail, or when an exact error code’s official guidance does not resolve the issue.
Have these details ready: the error code, the result of Test Internet Connection, whether Wi‑Fi or wired LAN was used, whether other devices were online, the game or update affected, and whether PlayStation Network status showed an incident. This information separates a service outage from a local configuration or queue problem and avoids repeating steps that cannot address the failure.

- Keep PS5 system software current.

Why does my PS5 pass the internet test but still not download a game?
