First confirm that your exact phone model supports Qi wireless charging. Then test it without its case or attachments, clear the charging surfaces, reposition it, check the charger’s power and compatibility, and let the phone cool if it is hot. If it still will not charge after those checks on a known-compatible charger, contact the phone maker or an authorized repair provider.
Start with the phone model: does it support wireless charging?
A Qi charger cannot charge a phone that does not have a compatible wireless-charging receiver. Support varies by exact model, so a familiar brand name or a phone’s recent release date is not enough to establish compatibility. Look up the full model name in the manufacturer’s specifications or support guidance before troubleshooting the charger.
| Phone guidance | What it establishes | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Google Pixel | Google’s current Pixel Help guidance says wireless charging is available on Pixel 3 and later, with listed exceptions. It identifies Pixel 10 and later, except Pixel 10a, as Qi2-compatible. | Check the exact Pixel model and its listed exception status; do not infer Qi2 support from the Pixel name alone. |
| Samsung Galaxy | Samsung’s current US compatibility guidance says Galaxy A, XCover, and Tab devices do not support wireless charging. Its list of compatible Galaxy families does not replace checking an individual model. | Look up the specific Galaxy model in Samsung’s compatibility guidance or device specifications. |
These are examples from the named manufacturers, not a complete list of wireless-charging phones across brands. If the specifications do not confirm wireless charging for your model, trying another Qi pad will not add that capability.
Check the phone’s full model designation, not just a series name such as “Galaxy” or “Pixel.” Two phones from the same manufacturer—or even within the same family—may differ in wireless-charging support. Manufacturer compatibility lists can also change as new models arrive, so use the current page for your exact device rather than relying on an old list, a retailer’s broad category, or the appearance of the phone.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Basic Qi support and Qi2 support are not interchangeable labels. A phone may support wireless charging without supporting Qi2, and the supported charging speed can also vary by model. Google’s current Pixel Help guidance says Pixel 10 and later, except Pixel 10a, are Qi2-compatible. It also says older Qi 1.x chargers can charge those named models at up to 5 W. That is useful if you own one of those Pixels and an older pad, but it is not a general speed promise for other phones.
Remove anything between the phone and the charger
For a clean test, remove the case and any wallet, card, magnetic ring, ring holder, metal plate, or other accessory attached to the phone. Check both the back of the phone and the charger surface for debris, then wipe away anything that could prevent contact or interfere with charging. Set the bare phone directly on the pad.
Cases can be a particular problem when they are thick, metallic, magnetic, or fitted with a ring holder. Google notes that these types of Pixel cases can affect or stop charging; it also says a non-Qi2 case can affect charging on supported newer Pixel models. Samsung’s current US guidance gives a maximum case thickness of 5 mm for non-Samsung cases. That limit is Samsung-specific guidance, not a universal Qi rule.
Remove cards as well as metal accessories for the test. A wallet case may hold several items between the phone and pad, so taking off only the outer cover may not be enough. Likewise, detach a ring holder or magnetic accessory rather than assuming that a case advertised as “wireless charging friendly” will work with every phone and charger. The bare-phone test separates a phone-or-charger issue from a case or attachment issue without requiring a purchase.
If the bare phone charges but stops when you put the case back on, the case or an attachment is the likely source of the problem. Leave it off while charging or check the phone maker’s guidance for a compatible case. Do not buy a replacement charger until you have tried this simple test. If a case is essential, verify its compatibility with the exact phone and charging standard; a Qi2-compatible case may matter for a particular supported device, but its label alone does not establish compatibility with every setup.
Find the charging coil instead of relying on visual centering
Put the back of the phone against the charging surface and move it slowly until the phone indicates that charging has started. Centering the phone is a reasonable first try, but the coil may not sit in the visual center of the handset, and different pads can have different coil layouts. Follow the phone and charger manuals if they show a recommended position.
Samsung’s guidance illustrates why position matters: the coil on a Galaxy Z Fold8 is near the bottom of the device, even though a user might assume it is centered. Samsung also notes that third-party pads can use different coil layouts, and that alignment may be harder on sloped pads. For Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip models, Samsung advises closing the phone with its rear facing the charger; follow the instructions for your particular model.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Try a deliberate alignment test rather than repeatedly dropping the phone in the middle and assuming the pad is faulty. Place the phone flat against the charging surface, pause to see whether the charging indicator appears, and shift it a small amount at a time. If the indicator starts, note the position and test whether it remains charging. If it starts and then stops, reposition once more and check for case interference, heat, or objects on the pad. The manuals for the phone and charger are the best guide when the coil position is not obvious.
A flat pad, a stand, and a vehicle mount may hold the phone at different angles or use different coil layouts. A sloped surface can make it harder to keep a phone in the right place, especially if it shifts while resting there. If the phone charges on one charger but not another, that result can point toward a difference in alignment or charger compatibility; it does not by itself prove that either device is defective.
Misalignment can make charging slow, cause it to stop, or lead to overheating. Samsung’s support guidance states: “Improper alignment may cause the device to charge slowly, stop charging, or overheat.” If charging begins only after you shift the phone, remember that position for this charger; do not assume the same placement will work on a different pad or stand.
Check the power path and charging standard
A charging pad needs a working power source as well as phone compatibility. Check the full path from the wall outlet to the charger: the outlet, adapter, cable, and pad. Use the cable and adapter intended for the charger, make sure the connections are secure, and try a different outlet. If available, test with another known-compatible charger.
Recommended Free Tools
- Confirm power: Check that the pad is plugged in and that its adapter and cable are connected as intended. Try another outlet to rule out a power-source problem.
- Confirm compatibility: Check that the charger supports the phone’s wireless-charging standard. For Qi certification, Google directs Pixel users to the Wireless Power Consortium product database.
- Check speed claims separately: A charger’s advertised wattage does not guarantee that a particular phone will charge at that rate. The phone must support the relevant charging standard and speed, and the charger must provide compatible output.
Check the connections at both ends of the cable, and use the adapter specified for the charger rather than assuming any spare adapter will perform the same way. A pad that is not receiving power cannot charge even a compatible phone. Trying a different outlet is a straightforward way to rule out one part of the power path; trying a second known-compatible pad, if one is available, can help distinguish a charger setup issue from a phone issue.
Certification and fast charging are not the same as basic compatibility. Samsung says fast wireless charging requires Samsung and Wireless Power Consortium certification, and notes that third-party coil structures can interrupt charging. Google’s current Pixel guidance says older Qi 1.x chargers still work with Pixel 10 and later, except Pixel 10a, at up to 5 W. That limit applies to the Pixel models Google names; it should not be generalized to other phones.
Samsung’s current US support guidance also describes fast wireless charging up to 15 W with Qi2-certified covers and MPP chargers. Treat that as the Samsung scenario described in that guidance, not a promise that any phone or charger combination will reach 15 W. Check the exact phone and accessory support before choosing a replacement charger. If the phone is incompatible with the pad, a larger advertised wattage will not fix the mismatch.

When comparing chargers, consider five things together: the phone’s exact Qi or Qi2 support and speed; certification for the relevant standard; coil layout and form factor; compatibility with the case you intend to use; and the adapter and cable the charger needs. A higher number on the packaging does not override the phone’s own supported speed. If your current pad works with another compatible phone but not yours, check model support and alignment before treating wattage as the explanation.
Let a hot phone cool before retrying
If the phone feels unusually hot, take it off the pad. Stop intensive use, such as gaming or demanding apps, and leave the phone to cool in a ventilated place away from direct sunlight. Retry only after it has cooled. Google says a warm Pixel may pause charging for protection and resume when it cools; Samsung’s regional guidance says high temperature can reduce or stop charging performance.
Also remove metal objects from the charging area. Xiaomi explains that foreign-object detection may slow or stop magnetic wireless charging when metal objects create a heating risk. Do not keep charging if the phone or an object on the pad becomes unusually hot.
Cooling is a diagnostic step, not a reason to keep using a setup that becomes unusually hot. Take away coins, metal plates, or other objects that could be on or near the charging surface, and stop intensive phone use while it cools. Retry when the phone is no longer hot, with the phone bare and correctly positioned. If charging pauses again as the phone warms, or if the phone or an object becomes unusually hot, stop the test and get device-specific guidance rather than repeatedly restarting it.
Check software and run the available diagnostic
If a Galaxy phone disconnects from wireless charging or the problem began after a software update, check whether a later update is available. An update may be relevant to a software-related problem, but it cannot establish that the charger is compatible or repair a hardware fault.
Samsung’s regional support guidance, updated April 27, 2026, provides this diagnostic route in Samsung Members: Get help → Diagnostics → View tests → Wireless charging. Menu names and availability can vary by model and software version. If your menus differ, consult the current support instructions for your device rather than assuming a missing test means the phone is faulty.
Run the diagnostic after the basic checks, so the phone is bare, cool, and positioned correctly during the test. Keep in mind what the diagnostic can and cannot tell you: it is a manufacturer-provided check, not proof that every charger is compatible or a substitute for service when the phone still fails on a known-compatible setup. If the problem began after an update, checking for a later update is reasonable, but do not count on software changes to resolve a misaligned phone, an unsupported model, a power problem, or hardware damage.

When to contact the manufacturer or a repair provider
Seek device-specific help if the phone supports wireless charging and still fails when it is bare, cool, correctly positioned, and connected to a charger known to work with that model. Samsung recommends a service center or repair request after its troubleshooting steps; Google directs users with unresolved charging or power issues to support.
Those symptoms alone do not identify a failed battery, charging coil, or other particular component. Do not open the phone or replace an internal part based only on a failed Qi-charging test. The phone model, charger, indicators, temperature behavior, and damage history all matter to a proper diagnosis.

Before contacting support, note the exact phone model, the charger and power adapter you tested, whether the bare phone charges, where it had to sit on the pad, and whether charging stops or the phone becomes hot. These observations help describe the problem without guessing at its cause. If you can safely test another known-compatible charger, note that result too. A failure on one pad alone does not establish that the phone needs repair, while a continued failure across controlled checks is a good reason to ask the manufacturer or an authorized provider for a model-specific assessment.
Use the phone maker’s support route or an authorized repair provider for diagnosis. The available symptoms do not establish whether a battery, coil, or another component has failed, and internal repair should not be attempted based only on the fact that Qi charging did not work. A technician can assess the device using its model, condition, and test results.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If you need another charger
Replace or add a charger only after checking the phone’s support and trying the existing setup without case interference or alignment problems. Compare the options against the phone and the way you plan to charge it:
- Phone support: Confirm the exact phone’s Qi or Qi2 compatibility and supported charging speed.
- Certification and standard: Check that the charger is certified for the relevant standard and suitable for the phone.
- Coil position and shape: Choose a pad, stand, or vehicle mount whose layout works with the phone’s coil position. A stand’s angle can make alignment harder for some combinations.
- Case use: Confirm that the case and any attached accessories are compatible with the phone-and-charger combination.
- Power accessories: Check what adapter and cable the charger requires, and use an appropriate power source.
Maximum advertised wattage is not a substitute for checking the phone’s supported standard and speed. A new pad also cannot make an unsupported phone charge wirelessly or resolve an internal phone fault.

There is no reason to replace working equipment solely because its maximum wattage is lower than a newer charger’s advertised rating. First confirm that the phone supports the charger’s standard, that the power path works, and that the phone aligns correctly. If the existing charger is incompatible or fails a controlled test, choose a certified option for the exact phone. A new accessory is not a remedy for unsupported phone hardware or an unresolved phone fault.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why won’t my phone charge on a wireless charger?
First check whether the exact phone model supports Qi wireless charging. If it does, remove the case and attachments, clear the phone and pad surfaces, reposition the phone to align its coil, and check the charger’s cable, adapter, outlet, and compatibility. If the phone is hot, let it cool before retrying. If it still fails bare, cool, aligned, and on a known-compatible charger, contact the phone maker or an authorized service provider.
Can a phone case stop Qi charging?
Yes. Thick, metallic, or magnetic cases and cases with ring holders or metal plates can affect or stop charging. Remove the case and accessories for a bare-phone test. Samsung’s current US guidance gives a maximum of 5 mm for non-Samsung cases, but that is Samsung-specific guidance, not a universal Qi limit. Google also notes that a non-Qi2 case can affect charging on supported newer Pixel models.
Does every phone from a brand support wireless charging?
No. Wireless charging is model-specific. Google’s current Pixel guidance lists Pixel 3 and later with exceptions, while Samsung says Galaxy A, XCover, and Tab devices do not support wireless charging in its current US compatibility guidance. Check the official specifications for your exact model instead of relying on its brand or family name.
Should I center my phone on the wireless charging pad?
Centering is a reasonable starting point, but it may not align the phone’s coil with the charger’s coil. Move the phone slowly and check for a charging indication, using the phone and charger manuals for model-specific placement. Samsung notes that the Galaxy Z Fold8 coil is near the bottom, and that third-party pads may have different coil layouts.
Why does wireless charging start and then stop?
Possible causes include movement or misalignment, a case or object interfering with charging, charger or power incompatibility, and heat protection. Check the bare phone on a working, compatible charger, align it carefully, remove metal objects, and let it cool if hot. These symptoms alone do not identify a failed component.
Can an older Qi charger charge a Qi2 phone?
It depends on the exact phone. Google says older Qi 1.x chargers work with Pixel 10 and later, except Pixel 10a, at up to 5 W. That model-specific guidance should not be generalized to other phones. Check your phone maker’s compatibility and speed information.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Will a higher-wattage wireless charger make my phone charge faster?
Not necessarily. The phone must support the relevant standard and speed, and the charger must provide compatible output. A charger’s advertised maximum wattage does not guarantee that a particular phone will charge at that rate. Check the exact phone and charger specifications before buying.
When should I get my phone repaired?
Contact the phone maker or an authorized repair provider if a model that supports wireless charging still fails when bare, cool, correctly positioned, and connected to a known-compatible charger. Do not assume that a failed test proves the battery or charging coil is faulty, and do not open the phone based on that symptom alone.
The Bottom Line
Confirm Qi support for your exact phone, remove its case and attachments, align the charging coil, check the pad’s power and compatibility, and let a hot phone cool before trying again. If a supported phone still will not charge bare and correctly positioned on a known-compatible charger, contact the manufacturer or an authorized repair provider rather than guessing at an internal fault.
