First identify the connection method. A Logitech device that pairs over Bluetooth is fixed in ChromeOS Bluetooth settings; a device that uses a USB receiver needs the correct receiver, a working USB connection, adequate power and a clear radio path. These are different troubleshooting paths, so do not try to pair a receiver-based device as if it were Bluetooth.
Use the steps below in order. They start with checks that apply to nearly every model and end with model-specific compatibility and support steps.
1. Identify how the Logitech device connects
Look at the mouse or keyboard, its packaging, and any receiver you still have. Logitech products may use Bluetooth, a 2.4 GHz USB receiver, a Unifying receiver or a Logi Bolt receiver. Some models offer both Bluetooth and a receiver. The receiver logo and the exact model number matter; Logitech receiver families are not interchangeable by default.
| Connection | What you should see | Where you troubleshoot it |
|---|---|---|
| Bluetooth | No USB receiver is required. The device has a Bluetooth or Connect control and a pairing indicator. | ChromeOS Settings opened from the lower-right status area, then Bluetooth and Manage devices. |
| USB receiver | A small dongle is plugged into a Chromebook USB port, or the original dongle is missing. | Battery, USB connection, receiver technology, placement and model-specific reconnection instructions. |
| Both | The device can switch between Bluetooth and one or more receiver channels. | Choose one method for testing. Bluetooth is usually the quickest way to separate a device problem from a receiver problem. |
If you cannot tell which method your model supports, search Logitech’s support site using the exact model name or number printed on the underside of the device. Do not assume that a Logitech receiver found in a drawer will work simply because it fits the USB port.

- TECHNICAL REQUIREMENT: This is not a standard plug-and-play receiver. It strictly requires -downloading the official Logitech Unifying Software to sync and pair with your compatible keyboard or mouse
2. Pair a Logitech device over Bluetooth
Enable Bluetooth in ChromeOS
- Click the status area at the lower right of the Chromebook desktop, where the network, battery and clock appear.
- If Bluetooth is off, turn it on.
- Open Manage devices.
- Choose Add Bluetooth device.
- Put the Logitech mouse or keyboard into pairing mode, select it when it appears, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Logitech describes Bluetooth as a way to connect without a USB receiver. That means no receiver should be inserted for this test; the Chromebook must discover the device through its own Bluetooth hardware.
Put the mouse or keyboard into pairing mode
On many Logitech products, holding the Connect button starts pairing. Keep holding it until the LED blinks rapidly, then return to the Chromebook’s device list. Button locations and controls vary by model, so use the model-specific instructions if your device has a numbered channel key, a switch or a different pairing button.
After a successful pairing, Logitech says the LED glows steadily for about five seconds and then turns off to conserve power. A rapidly blinking light generally means the device is still waiting to pair; a light that never blinks suggests that the device has not entered pairing mode or needs power.
If the Logitech device does not appear
- Turn the device off and on, then hold its Connect control again until the LED flashes rapidly.
- Move the mouse or keyboard close to the Chromebook during the initial pairing attempt.
- Confirm that Bluetooth remains enabled after opening Manage devices.
- If the device was previously paired with another computer or tablet, place it into pairing mode again rather than waiting for an old connection to transfer automatically.
- Use the exact model instructions if the product uses a channel selector or a button sequence instead of a dedicated Connect button.
If ChromeOS never lists the device after these checks, the remaining possibilities include an incorrect pairing procedure, a depleted battery, a device fault or a model-specific compatibility issue. Record the model number before moving to Logitech’s product support page.
If it appears but will not finish pairing
Cancel the attempt, switch the Logitech device off and on, and repeat Add Bluetooth device while the LED is rapidly blinking. Keep other nearby computers and tablets from trying to connect during this attempt. If the Chromebook shows an old entry for the same device, remove or forget that entry using the controls presented in Manage devices, then start a new pairing attempt.
3. Fix a Logitech device that uses a USB receiver
Check power first
Replace or recharge the batteries according to the model’s instructions. Logitech lists low power as a common reason for a mouse or keyboard to stop responding. Because battery type and access differ by model, do not buy a specific battery until you have checked the label or product documentation.
Turn the device off and on after changing the batteries. If it has a power switch, leave it on while testing and watch for any indicator light or response from a key.

- Logitech Unifying receiver for mouse and keyboard
- Logitech Unifying receiver (M/N:C-U0007)
- Will work with any product that display the Unifying Logo
- The unifying receiver working with 7 mice and keyboards in the same time.
- Compatible with: Logitech wireless mouse M505 Marathon Mouse M705 Logitech Mouse M905 Logitech keyboard K340 Logitech keyboard K350
Connect the receiver directly
Remove the receiver and plug it directly into a Chromebook USB port. Avoid an unsupported hub, dock or KVM switch while diagnosing the problem. A direct connection removes another device, cable or switch from the signal path.
Try another USB port on the Chromebook. If the receiver works after moving ports, leave it in the reliable port and inspect the original port or any adapter that was being used. Make sure the dongle is fully seated; a loose connection can look like a wireless failure.
Reduce radio and physical interference
Logitech identifies several conditions that can interrupt a receiver connection:
- The receiver is plugged into a different port or computer than before.
- The receiver or mouse is close to a metal surface.
- Nearby electronics are creating radio-frequency interference.
- The mouse is being used on a surface that prevents its sensor from tracking.
Move the receiver to another direct USB port, place the mouse on a non-metal surface and move nearby electronics away where practical. Then test typing or pointer movement again. These changes are diagnostic as well as corrective: if the connection returns after a port or location change, restore one change at a time to find the trigger.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTest without a dock or KVM
A dock, hub or KVM can add USB compatibility and signal variables. Disconnect it temporarily and connect the Logitech receiver to the Chromebook itself. Once the device works directly, reconnect the intermediary hardware and test it separately. If the receiver fails only through that hardware, use the direct connection or consult the hardware manufacturer’s compatibility guidance.
4. Understand Logitech receiver types before replacing one
A replacement must match both the receiver technology and the device. Logitech documents 2.4 GHz USB, Unifying and Logi Bolt receiver families. A receiver that fits physically may still be the wrong protocol.
| Receiver label or technology | What it tells you | What it does not tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Unifying | Designed for Logitech devices that explicitly support Unifying. | It does not work with every Logitech mouse or keyboard. |
| Logi Bolt | Designed for devices that explicitly support Logi Bolt. | A Bolt receiver should not be assumed compatible with Unifying or another 2.4 GHz receiver family. |
| 2.4 GHz USB | Indicates a wireless USB connection, often identified by a model-specific logo or part number. | The general frequency does not establish cross-family pairing compatibility. |
Logitech says one Unifying receiver can pair with up to six Unifying devices. That is a capability of the Unifying system, not a promise that any Logitech product can use that receiver. Confirm the device’s exact support before purchasing or attempting a replacement.

When the original receiver is missing
- Write down the exact model name and model number from the device.
- Check the Logitech support page for that model and identify the receiver family shown there.
- Compare the logo or part number on any replacement with the model’s documented compatibility.
- Only then attempt pairing using the model-specific procedure.
Do not buy solely on the basis of a similar appearance, a low price or the word “Logitech” on the listing. Logitech’s support information does not establish that every receiver can be paired using ChromeOS alone, so follow the instructions for the exact device.
5. Use a symptom-based decision path
No light, no typing and no pointer movement
- Check the power switch and replace or recharge the batteries.
- For Bluetooth models, hold the Connect control until the LED blinks rapidly.
- For receiver models, reseat the dongle directly in the Chromebook and try a second USB port.
If there is still no LED or response, the device may have a hardware or power fault. The model number is needed for a precise diagnosis.
The Bluetooth device is visible but disconnects
Pair it again from Manage devices while the device is in rapid-blink pairing mode. Keep the device near the Chromebook for the test and prevent another previously paired computer or tablet from claiming the connection. If repeated pairing fails, consult the exact Logitech model instructions rather than substituting receiver steps.
The receiver is not detected or works intermittently
Connect it directly, try another port, remove hubs and KVMs, replace the batteries, and reduce metal or radio interference. If the receiver remains unrecognized, identify its technology and verify that it belongs with the mouse or keyboard. A wrong receiver can produce the same symptoms as a defective one.
The device works on another computer but not this Chromebook
For Bluetooth, repeat the ChromeOS pairing sequence with Bluetooth enabled and the Logitech device in pairing mode. For a receiver, test a direct Chromebook USB port instead of a dock or adapter. If the receiver works elsewhere but not on the Chromebook after these checks, record the Chromebook model and ChromeOS version along with the Logitech model when contacting support.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →6. Separate a device fault from a connection fault
Change only one variable at a time so the result is meaningful. For a Bluetooth device, first confirm that its LED can enter rapid-blink pairing mode, then search from Add Bluetooth device. For a receiver device, first establish that the Chromebook sees a firmly seated dongle in a direct port, then test the mouse or keyboard with fresh or fully charged power. This order prevents a dead battery, a bad port and an incorrect receiver from being mistaken for the same failure.
If a model offers both Bluetooth and a receiver, test Bluetooth without inserting the dongle. A successful Bluetooth connection shows that the keyboard or mouse has power and can communicate, even if the receiver is missing or unsuitable. Conversely, a successful receiver connection with Bluetooth disabled points toward the Chromebook’s Bluetooth path rather than the Logitech hardware. Keep the working method in use while you investigate the other one.

- Easily connect up to 6 compatible keyboards and mice to one computer – without the hassle of multiple USB receivers.
- You get a powerful, reliable connection up to 10 metres (33 feet) away with virtually no delays or dropouts.
- You can leave the tiny receiver in your notebook, so there's no need to unplug it when you move around.
- Model number: 910-005931
For an intermittent problem, note what changes the symptom: a different USB port, removal of a dock, moving away from metal, or moving nearby electronics. Restore the original setup only after the device is stable. If the failure follows the receiver between ports and computers, the receiver or its compatibility is more suspect than a single Chromebook port.
7. Avoid common troubleshooting mistakes
- Using the wrong path: Bluetooth pairing instructions cannot repair a receiver that ChromeOS never sees, and receiver replacement cannot help a Bluetooth-only model.
- Assuming all Logitech receivers are interchangeable: Unifying, Logi Bolt and other 2.4 GHz receivers require matching device support.
- Testing through too many accessories: A hub, dock or KVM can obscure whether the Chromebook and receiver communicate directly.
- Ignoring the surface: A metal surface can affect the receiver path, while an unsuitable mouse surface can prevent pointer tracking even when the wireless link is healthy.
- Repeating pairing without pairing mode: ChromeOS cannot discover a device that is not actively advertising itself. Look for the rapidly blinking LED or the model’s documented equivalent.
- Buying before identifying the model: Compatibility cannot be established from the connector shape alone.
- Changing several things at once: If you replace batteries, move ports and add a new receiver simultaneously, you will not know which action solved the problem.
- Leaving another host connected: A nearby computer or tablet that still has an active connection can prevent the Logitech device from completing a new Bluetooth pairing attempt.
8. Decide whether a replacement receiver is appropriate
A replacement is appropriate only after you know the exact mouse or keyboard model and the receiver family it supports. The connector’s size and the seller’s use of the Logitech name are not enough. Check the model page for a Unifying, Logi Bolt or other specified receiver designation, then match the replacement’s logo or part number.
There is no single replacement price or universal replacement part for Logitech devices. The correct listing depends on the model, region and receiver technology. Treat a low-cost generic dongle as unverified unless the model documentation specifically confirms compatibility. If the original receiver is present but fails, troubleshoot the Chromebook port, power, placement and interference before buying anything.
For a Unifying-compatible product, Logitech states that one Unifying receiver can support up to six Unifying devices. That can be useful when several confirmed Unifying products share one receiver, but it does not make the receiver suitable for a Logi Bolt or another non-Unifying model. Do not assume that ChromeOS alone can perform every model’s receiver-pairing procedure; follow Logitech’s instructions for that exact product.
9. Escalate with the exact model
Use the product-specific Logitech support page when Bluetooth pairing still fails, a receiver is not recognized after direct-connection checks, or you need a replacement. Have the model number, connection method, receiver logo or part number, Chromebook model and the steps already attempted available.
Do not rely on Logitech’s discontinued Connection Utility. Logitech says that utility is no longer supported or maintained. A current, model-specific support procedure is the appropriate next step.
