Start by identifying where the failure occurs: Restore 3 uses Bluetooth for setup discovery and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi to join your network. If the app finds the device but Wi-Fi setup stalls, check the network; if the device connects but is silent, check whether playback is paused or the volume is low.

Work through the checks in order: confirm the Wi-Fi band and password, get the phone and Restore 3 close together, put Restore 3 into pairing mode, and then power-cycle the device and router if setup still will not finish. A hotspot or travel router may help in some network situations, but neither is a guaranteed fix. For persistent silence, check the Pause and Big Button volume controls rather than guessing at a reset procedure.

Identify whether setup or playback is failing

During setup, Bluetooth lets the Hatch Sleep app find Restore 3. Wi-Fi is used after registration, so a device that never appears in the app points to discovery or pairing, while a device that appears but cannot finish setup points more strongly to the Wi-Fi connection. Hatch also requires a 2.4 GHz wireless network; a 5 GHz-only network will not work.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This distinction matters because Bluetooth discovery and Wi-Fi joining are separate parts of setup. If the app keeps searching without showing Restore 3, changing router settings is not the first step to try: check phone Bluetooth, permissions, distance, and the device’s pairing mode. If the app has found the device but stalls while joining Wi-Fi, focus on the router, the selected network, and its password. Once Restore 3 is registered, Wi-Fi—not Bluetooth—is the connection used by the device.

  • The app keeps searching: check Bluetooth, permissions, distance, and pairing mode.
  • The device appears but Wi-Fi setup does not complete: check the 2.4 GHz network, credentials, and router, then try the documented power cycle.
  • The device is connected but makes no sound: check Pause and the Big Button volume control before treating silence as a network problem.

Use the symptom to decide which branch to follow. If the app has not discovered the unit, start with the Bluetooth section below. If it has discovered the unit and Wi-Fi setup is the part that fails, begin with the network checks. If setup is complete and only audio is missing, start with the sound controls; a silent device does not, by itself, establish that Wi-Fi is at fault.

Check the Wi-Fi network and password

Restore 3 needs a network broadcasting 2.4 GHz. If your router uses separate network names for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, select the 2.4 GHz network in the Hatch Sleep app. If it uses one shared name for both bands, confirm that 2.4 GHz is enabled in the router settings. A 5 GHz-only network is not sufficient. Hatch’s Restore 3 connection troubleshooting identifies the 2.4 GHz requirement and suggests checking network settings when setup will not finish.

Do not assume that a network name containing “Wi-Fi” or a strong phone connection means the right band is available. The relevant requirement is that the network used for setup broadcasts 2.4 GHz. If the router offers distinct names for each band, choose the 2.4 GHz one rather than the 5 GHz one. If it shows one shared network name, check the router configuration to make sure 2.4 GHz has not been disabled. Hatch’s guidance does not establish that every router will present its settings or bands in the same way, so use the router maker’s instructions if you need help finding that setting.

  • Check the Wi-Fi password carefully and make sure the phone can connect to the intended network.
  • Confirm the phone and Restore 3 are being set up on the network you mean to use.
  • Update the router, phone, and Hatch Sleep app, as Hatch recommends for connection troubleshooting.

When re-entering the password, make sure it is the password for the selected 2.4 GHz network, especially if the router has separate names for its bands. Also check that the phone itself can join the intended Wi-Fi network. This does not prove Restore 3 can join, but it helps rule out choosing the wrong network or using credentials that do not work for the phone.

Hatch recommends updating the router, phone, and Hatch Sleep app as part of connection troubleshooting. These are general maintenance checks, not a promise that an update will resolve a particular setup fault. If the app or phone needs an update, apply it through its normal update process and retry the setup. Avoid assuming that a specific app or firmware version is required: Hatch’s published guidance does not establish version numbers or a guaranteed time to fix.

A network that requires a captive-portal sign-in or restricts which devices can join may prevent setup, but Hatch’s guidance does not establish compatibility with every hotel, campus, or managed network. If the network’s access rules are outside your control, try a permitted 2.4 GHz network or ask the network administrator whether a device like Restore 3 can connect.

In particular, a network that presents a browser sign-in page or applies device access rules may not behave like an ordinary home network. Hatch’s published guidance does not confirm support for every captive portal, campus network, hotel network, or router model. Do not treat a hotspot or travel router as a way to bypass an access policy: ask the network administrator what is permitted, or try another allowed 2.4 GHz network.

Make the phone discover Restore 3 over Bluetooth

Bluetooth is used to find Restore 3 during setup; it is not a substitute for the device’s Wi-Fi connection after registration. Keep the phone near the unit while pairing. Hatch gives an approximate Bluetooth range of 30 feet and says setup works best in the same room, about 10 feet away. These are practical setup distances, not performance guarantees.

Start with the phone rather than repeatedly retrying Wi-Fi. Turn Bluetooth on and check that the Hatch Sleep app has the relevant permission. On iOS, Hatch says to allow Bluetooth access for the app. On Android, enable Location Services for discovery. Permission names and settings screens can vary by phone, but the point of this check is to allow the app to discover the nearby device.

  1. Turn on Bluetooth on the phone. On iPhone, allow Bluetooth access for the Hatch Sleep app. On Android, turn on Location Services for device discovery.
  2. Place the phone close to Restore 3, ideally in the same room and about 10 feet away.
  3. On the bottom of Restore 3, hold the two-arrow button for two seconds to enter pairing mode. The Bluetooth indicator should turn green, and the clock display should show a dot moving in a circle.
  4. Make sure the Hatch app is closed on other nearby phones. During setup, only one phone can pair with the device at a time.
  5. If the app continues searching, force-close and reopen it, then try discovery again.

Use the pairing indicator as a check that you have put the device into the intended state. Hold the two-arrow button on the bottom of Restore 3 for two seconds; Hatch says the Bluetooth indicator should turn green and a dot should move in a circle on the clock display. If those signs do not appear, repeat the documented pairing action rather than moving on to router troubleshooting as though Wi-Fi joining were already underway.

Distance can matter even when the phone and Restore 3 are in the same home. Hatch gives an approximate range of 30 feet, but says setup works best with the phone and device in the same room, about 10 feet apart. Treat those figures as practical placement guidance, not a guaranteed maximum range or a promise of successful discovery. For the first attempt, remove unnecessary distance and keep the phone near the unit.

Only one phone can pair during setup. If another nearby phone has the Hatch app open, close the app on that phone before trying again. This avoids having two phones competing to pair with the same Restore 3. If the app is still searching after checking permissions, proximity, pairing mode, and the other phone, force-close and reopen Hatch Sleep, then retry discovery.

These steps follow Hatch’s Bluetooth connection troubleshooting tips, which were updated September 14, 2026.

Power-cycle Restore 3 and the router

If the app finds Restore 3 but setup or a Wi-Fi update still fails, restart both the device and router. Hatch’s documented power-cycle instructions include leaving the router unplugged for about five minutes and testing Restore 3 close to it.

  1. Force-close the Hatch Sleep app.
  2. Unplug Restore 3 and the router.
  3. Leave the router unplugged for about five minutes.
  4. Reconnect the router and allow about five minutes for it to recover.
  5. Place Restore 3 close to the router for the test, then plug Restore 3 back in.
  6. Retry registration or the Wi-Fi update in the Hatch Sleep app.

Follow the order: close the app, unplug the unit and router, give the router about five minutes unplugged, reconnect it, then allow about five minutes for it to recover. Test Restore 3 close to the router and retry registration or the Wi-Fi update in the app. The close placement is a troubleshooting test to reduce distance while checking the connection; it does not change the requirement for a 2.4 GHz network.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The five-minute intervals are Hatch’s troubleshooting instructions, not a guaranteed recovery time. See Hatch’s power-cycle reset instructions.

This documented power cycle is different from guessing at a factory reset or deleting account information. The provided instructions describe unplugging and reconnecting the device and router; they do not establish a Restore 3 recovery-reset button sequence. If the power cycle does not work, continue with the network checks or contact Hatch rather than trying an undocumented combination of buttons.

Consider a hotspot or travel router only if needed

If your normal network is unavailable or unsuitable, Hatch says some users have connected Restore 3 using a phone hotspot, and some have found a travel router helpful. These are possible workarounds, not guaranteed fixes. The alternative network must broadcast 2.4 GHz, use credentials the phone and Restore 3 can access, and permit the device to join.

Think of these options as tests or alternatives when ordinary network checks do not solve the problem, not as the first fix for every setup failure. A hotspot or travel router still needs to provide a compatible 2.4 GHz network. The phone and Restore 3 must be able to use the intended network during setup, and the network must permit the device to join. Hatch does not say that either option will work on every service or managed network.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Network option When it may help What to verify
Ordinary Wi-Fi Your home or other regular network is available. It broadcasts 2.4 GHz, the password is correct, and access rules allow Restore 3 to join.
Phone hotspot Your usual network is unsuitable or unavailable and you can provide a compatible hotspot. The hotspot broadcasts 2.4 GHz and both the phone and Restore 3 can use it during setup. Hatch reports some users have connected this way; success is not assured.
Travel router You need to provide a separate network, such as where the available network is unsuitable. The router broadcasts 2.4 GHz and can work with the home, hotel, or campus network’s access rules. Hatch says some users have found this helpful, but does not confirm compatibility with every network.

For a phone hotspot, first check whether it can broadcast 2.4 GHz; do not assume every phone or hotspot configuration provides the required band. Hatch reports that some users have connected Restore 3 this way, but it does not describe this as a guaranteed solution. If you try it, make sure you use the hotspot network and credentials you intend to test, and that the phone and Restore 3 can both access it as needed during setup.

A travel router may be useful when you need to create a separate Wi-Fi network, but it is conditional equipment, not a required accessory. It must broadcast 2.4 GHz and work with the upstream home, hotel, or campus network. Some upstream networks may have sign-in requirements or rules about which devices may connect. Hatch says some users have found a travel router helpful; its guidance does not establish compatibility with every network or router model, and it does not recommend a specific model.

Compare alternatives by the same practical questions: Does the option broadcast 2.4 GHz? Can the phone and Restore 3 use the intended network during setup? Is the password available and correct? Do network access rules allow the device to join? If any answer is no or unknown, switching network types may not help. Do not buy a travel router simply because setup is slow on an otherwise compatible network; try the standard band, credential, Bluetooth, and power-cycle checks first.

Hatch discusses these alternatives in its Restore 3 connection troubleshooting. Do not assume a hotspot or travel router bypasses a network that blocks additional devices or requires a sign-in page.

Restore sound when the device appears silent

If Restore 3 is connected but you cannot hear audio, check the controls first. The Restore 3 controls guide says the Pause control pauses audio; press it again to resume. Use the Big Button to adjust volume and turn it up enough to test playback.

  • Press Pause once to resume if audio was paused.
  • Use the Big Button to raise the volume.
  • Try playback again after checking both controls.

These are the documented basic checks for apparent silence. A paused sound can look like a playback failure, and a low volume setting can make audio hard to hear. Check Pause and raise volume with the Big Button, then test playback again. If you are still unable to hear sound, the available controls guide does not provide a longer model-specific sound diagnostic sequence, so do not infer a network problem or invent additional button steps.

The Restore 3 controls guide identifies a long press of the Light Button as a reset control, but it does not provide a full sound-failure diagnostic procedure. Do not guess at a reset sequence for persistent silence; contact Hatch Support for model-specific next steps.

Contact Hatch Support if the documented checks fail

If Restore 3 still cannot be discovered, join Wi-Fi, or play sound after the checks above, use Hatch’s support chat or request route. Hatch’s general connection guidance advises contacting Support before deleting your account, so do not make account deletion a routine troubleshooting step.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When you contact Support, describe which stage fails: whether the app keeps searching, whether Restore 3 appears but Wi-Fi setup will not finish, or whether setup completes but sound remains absent after checking Pause and volume. That distinction follows Hatch’s separate Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and controls guidance and can help keep the troubleshooting focused. Include which documented checks you have already tried, such as enabling Bluetooth permissions, putting the unit into pairing mode, verifying 2.4 GHz, and power-cycling the router. Do not report a guaranteed fix or assume a hardware fault based only on an unsuccessful network attempt.

For additional context, Hatch explains whether Wi-Fi is required in its Wi-Fi requirements guidance, and its setup page covers trouble setting up a new Restore or updating Wi-Fi: Trouble setting up your new Restore or updating Wi-Fi.

Do not delete your Hatch account as a routine last step before asking for help. Hatch’s general connection guidance says to contact Support before deleting the account. Likewise, Hatch’s published Restore 3 guidance does not establish a specific replacement adapter, repair part, reset sequence, or replacement purchase as the answer to these symptoms. Use Hatch’s support route for unresolved connection or sound issues and follow its current, model-specific instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Hatch Restore 3 work with 5 GHz Wi-Fi?

No. Hatch says Restore 3 requires a 2.4 GHz wireless network. If your router has separate network names for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, select the 2.4 GHz network. If it uses one shared name, check that 2.4 GHz is enabled.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why does the Hatch Sleep app keep searching for Restore 3?

That usually points to Bluetooth discovery or pairing rather than Wi-Fi joining. Turn on Bluetooth and the app’s Bluetooth permission on iOS; on Android, enable Location Services. Keep the phone near the device, hold the bottom two-arrow button for two seconds to enter pairing mode, close the Hatch app on other nearby phones, and force-close and reopen the app if it continues searching.

How do I put Restore 3 into pairing mode?

Hold the two-arrow button on the bottom of Restore 3 for two seconds. Hatch says the Bluetooth indicator should turn green and the clock display should show a dot moving in a circle.

How close should my phone be during Restore 3 setup?

Hatch gives an approximate Bluetooth range of 30 feet, but says setup works best in the same room, about 10 feet away. These are practical troubleshooting distances, not performance guarantees.

What should I do if Restore 3 appears in the app but Wi-Fi setup will not finish?

Check that the selected network broadcasts 2.4 GHz, verify the password, confirm the phone can join the intended network, and update the router, phone, and Hatch Sleep app. Then try Hatch’s power cycle: force-close the app, unplug Restore 3 and the router, leave the router unplugged for about five minutes, reconnect it and allow about five minutes to recover, place Restore 3 close to it, and retry setup.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I use a phone hotspot or travel router with Restore 3?

Hatch says some users have connected Restore 3 using a phone hotspot and some have found a travel router helpful. Neither is guaranteed. The network must broadcast 2.4 GHz, the phone and Restore 3 must be able to use it during setup, and its access rules must permit the device to join.

Why is my connected Restore 3 not making sound?

Check whether audio is paused and press Pause again to resume. Use the Big Button to raise the volume, then test playback. If it remains silent, Hatch’s controls guide does not provide a full sound-failure diagnostic sequence; contact Hatch Support rather than guessing at reset steps.

Should I delete my Hatch account or factory-reset Restore 3 to fix setup?

Do not treat account deletion as a routine troubleshooting step; Hatch’s general connection guidance says to contact Support before deleting the account. Hatch’s published Restore 3 guidance does not establish a recovery-reset button sequence, so ask Hatch Support for current model-specific instructions.

The Bottom Line

First identify the failure point: Bluetooth discovery, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi joining, or sound playback. Use the two-arrow button to enter pairing mode, check the network and password, and follow Hatch’s five-minute router power-cycle instructions if needed. For silence, check Pause and Big Button volume. Hotspots and travel routers may help in some cases, but are not guaranteed; contact Hatch Support for problems that persist.
