Start with the free checks that separate a 2XKO outage from a local problem: install the current update, read the in-client notice, check Riot service status, confirm your Riot Account region, and compare online play with offline or local play. Then test a wired connection if the issue is online-only. Console crashes have had a documented, targeted fix, while persistent crashes, disconnects, and launch errors should be reported to Riot Player Support with logs and exact symptoms.
Start with this five-minute triage
- Install the current 2XKO update. Close the game completely, let the client finish patching, and relaunch. A client on an older build can fail before any network or graphics troubleshooting is useful.
- Read the client notice and check Riot service status. Maintenance or a known incident can produce login failures, sudden disconnects, and matchmaking trouble that no setting on your device will repair.
- Write down the exact symptom. “Crash” can mean a desktop close, a console shutdown, a frozen image, a black screen, or a disconnect back to the menu. Record the platform, game version, approximate time, what happened immediately beforehand, and any displayed code.
- Confirm the Riot Account region. Riot warned in its January 20, 2026 patch notes that an account region different from the region where you intend to play can cause poor connection quality. Correct the region mismatch before changing advanced network settings.
- Run one controlled comparison. If the problem is online, play one match on a wired connection instead of Wi-Fi or phone tethering. If possible, compare online play with an offline or local mode. These tests help classify the fault; they do not prove that Riot’s servers, your ISP, your router, or a particular component is responsible.

Why 2XKO can crash, stutter, or disconnect
Crashes are not always caused by your hardware
Riot acknowledged player reports of “game crashes (or sudden disconnects)” in its January 29, 2026 developer update. In a June 18 update, game developer Ben “Draggles” Forbes described a systemic console crash problem connected with the amount of content being added: “We’ve tracked down the cause, but it’s pretty systemic (related to the amount of content we’ve been adding recently) and not something that can be fixed with an easy one-shot.”
That statement described the console issue being investigated at that time; it does not establish that every current crash, on every platform, has the same cause. Riot’s July 8, 2026 version 1.2.3b notes then stated: “Patch 1.2.3b introduces bugfixes for the console related crash issues.” Treat that as a targeted historical fix and a reason to update, not as a guarantee that a later crash is resolved.

Network delay and frame stutter look similar
Riot’s explanation of 2XKO’s online play identifies Wi-Fi and tethered connections as examples associated with pauses, stuttering, and large rollback effects. A computer below the game’s minimum specification can also contribute. Those are possible contributors, not proof that your router or internet provider is at fault.
Riot also explains that inconsistent frame pacing can make the picture stutter or make inputs seem inconsistent. A frame-pacing problem can therefore feel like “lag” even when the network path is healthy. The online-versus-offline comparison is the quickest way to separate these possibilities.
Fix 2XKO crashes and sudden disconnects
1. Update, then check for a known incident
Install the current game build and restart the client. Read any notice shown in the client and check Riot’s service-status information. If Riot is reporting maintenance or an incident, wait for service recovery rather than repeatedly reinstalling the game.

Record whether the crash occurs on PC or console, during startup, in a menu, while entering a match, or after a particular action. If you have access to another supported platform, comparing the same account and activity can show whether the symptom follows the account or stays with one device. A comparison is evidence about where to investigate, not proof of a specific software defect.
3. Use the July 2026 console fix as context, not a blanket promise
For console players, make sure the system has received the version 1.2.3b-era updates and any later patches. Riot’s July 8 notes specifically listed console-related crash bug fixes and improved console stability. If a fully updated console still crashes, report the new occurrence rather than assuming the historical issue is the only explanation.
4. Avoid unsupported “fixes” that can hide useful evidence
Do not disable security features, delete unrelated system files, or install third-party “repair” utilities simply because a crash occurs. Those actions can introduce new problems and make a support investigation harder. Keep the original error text and a short timeline instead.
5. Escalate a repeatable crash
Riot asks players to submit tickets for tracked crashes, sudden disconnects, and other issues. Include:

- Riot Account region and the region in which you intended to play.
- Local time and time zone of at least one occurrence.
- What you were doing immediately before the failure.
- Whether it also happens offline or in local play.
- Whether a wired connection changes the result.
- The exact error message, a screenshot, and logs requested by Player Support.
Fix lag, rollback, and visible stutter
First decide whether the symptom is online-only

Test wired play without treating it as a guaranteed cure
Connect the gaming device directly to the router for one controlled match. A Cat 6 Ethernet cable is an optional practical way to perform this comparison; Riot does not require or endorse a particular cable category, and a cable cannot correct an outage, an account-region mismatch, or a rendering problem. If you cannot run a cable, compare a normal home Wi-Fi connection with another available connection only as a diagnostic test.

Phone tethering is also a useful comparison but is specifically among the connection types Riot associates with pauses, stuttering, and large rollback effects. A result on tethering should not be generalized to your home connection.
Check the account region before changing network hardware
Open your Riot Account details and verify that the account region matches the region where you intend to play. Riot’s January 20, 2026 patch notes warn that a mismatch can produce poor connection. Region alignment is a free check and should come before buying equipment or changing advanced router settings.
Do not confuse frame pacing with rollback
Frame pacing describes how consistently frames are simulated, rendered, and displayed. Inconsistent pacing can make movement look uneven and inputs feel irregular even when a match is not losing network packets. If the same stutter appears in offline or local play, describe it to support as a possible performance or frame-pacing issue. The official material reviewed does not establish one universal graphics-setting recipe or a specific current PC driver fix, so avoid presenting an unverified setting combination as a guaranteed solution.

Fix login, lobby, and matchmaking connection trouble
Check availability and region first
Start with the current client notice, Riot service-status information, and your Riot Account region. Login and lobby failures during an incident will not be repaired by reinstalling Windows or replacing a network cable.
Restart after a specific post-disconnect lobby failure
An older Riot Player Support known-errors page dated September 15, 2025 describes a lobby problem that can occur after disconnecting through the game’s in-game settings and recommends restarting the game. Use that workaround only when the symptom matches that description. The page is older than the current troubleshooting guidance and was published in Portuguese, so it should not be treated as a universal fix for every lobby error.
Treat a black-screen reinstall recommendation narrowly
The same older page describes a particular black-screen login lockup for which it suggested a clean uninstall and reinstall. That is a symptom-specific, dated workaround—not a first-line response to every crash, disconnect, or black screen. Preserve logs and error details before removing the installation, then use current Player Support guidance if the problem returns.
Fix VAN 9005 on Windows
Use this section only if 2XKO or its anti-cheat component displays VAN 9005. Riot’s current Player Support procedure, updated January 15, 2026, checks three Windows security features in order: TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, and Memory Integrity.
1. Check TPM 2.0
Open Windows’ TPM management tool by searching for tpm.msc from the Start menu. Confirm that a TPM is present and ready, and that the specification is version 2.0. If TPM is disabled or unavailable, the setting is normally changed in the computer’s UEFI firmware; the menu name varies by motherboard or system manufacturer.

2. Check Secure Boot
Search Windows for System Information, open the result, and inspect the Secure Boot state. If it is disabled, enable Secure Boot in UEFI firmware according to the system manufacturer’s instructions. Firmware changes can affect boot configuration, so do not change unrelated options.
3. Turn on Memory Integrity
Open Windows Security from Start, choose Device security, open Core isolation details, and turn on Memory integrity if Windows allows it. Incompatible drivers can prevent this switch from enabling; record the driver name instead of deleting random files.
4. Restart and retry
Restart Windows after changing any of the three settings, then launch 2XKO again. Riot’s sequence requires the restart before retrying.

If TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, and Memory Integrity are configured and VAN 9005 still appears, submit a Riot Player Support ticket and attach the logs requested on the current VAN 9005 page. Do not substitute older advice about disabling virtualization-based security when the current Riot procedure directs you through these security checks.
Use comparisons to narrow the cause
Controlled comparisons are more useful than changing several variables at once. Keep the game version and account the same, change one condition, and record the result.
- Online versus offline/local: separates network-dependent symptoms from stutter that also occurs during local rendering.
- Wi-Fi or tethering versus wired: tests the local connection path; it does not identify the remote cause by itself.
- PC versus console: useful only when you can access both. The documented 2026 systemic crash discussion and the 1.2.3b crash fix were specifically about console issues.
- Intended play region versus Riot Account region: checks an account configuration Riot has linked to poor connection.
Change only one condition per test where possible. If you change the region, reinstall the game, replace the router, and update drivers simultaneously, you will not know which change affected the symptom.
Platform-specific checks that are actually supported
Console
Console players should prioritize complete game and system updates, then note whether the crash is repeatable in a particular menu, character screen, or match transition. Riot’s June 18, 2026 explanation concerned a systemic console issue tied to the volume of recently added content, and the July 8 version 1.2.3b notes announced console crash fixes and improved stability. Those dated statements explain why updating matters, but they do not show that every later console failure has the same cause. If the updated console still fails, report the exact activity and time instead of repeatedly power-cycling or reinstalling without a record.
PC
On PC, compare online and offline play and check whether the machine meets the published minimum specification. If both modes stutter, describe the symptom as possible rendering, performance, or frame-pacing trouble rather than automatically blaming the connection. If only online matches fail, test wired play and verify the account region before making unrelated graphics or firmware changes. The reviewed Riot guidance does not provide a universal driver version or graphics preset, so support should receive the actual system and error details.

Build a support report that can be investigated
A vague report such as “2XKO is broken” cannot distinguish a crash, rollback, frame-pacing problem, or service incident. Write a short timeline: when the client launched, when matchmaking began, what happened immediately before the failure, and whether the game closed, froze, returned to the menu, or displayed an error. Include your platform, operating-system version, game build, account region, intended play region, and local time zone.
List controlled tests separately. For example, state whether one offline session was smooth, whether one Wi-Fi match stuttered, and whether one wired match changed the result. Say if another account or platform was tested, but do not present a single comparison as proof of server, ISP, router, or hardware fault. Attach screenshots of codes and the logs requested by Player Support. Keep the original files until the ticket is submitted.
Costs and optional equipment
All first-line checks in this guide are free: updating, checking service status, confirming the account region, comparing online with offline play, and restarting after the specific lobby symptom. A Cat 6 Ethernet cable can be a practical, low-cost way to compare wired and Wi-Fi play if your device and router are close enough, but Riot does not require that category, endorse a purchase, or promise that it will cure lag. Do not buy networking hardware or repair software before a controlled test shows that the local wireless path is a plausible contributor.

When to contact Riot Player Support
Open a ticket when crashes or sudden disconnects continue after updating and checking service status; when the same lag or rollback occurs across controlled connection tests; when login or lobby failures recur; or when VAN 9005 remains after the three security checks. Include the complete timeline and test results rather than writing only “the game is broken.”
For a useful report, state whether the failure is repeatable, whether it occurs before or after entering a match, whether offline play is affected, and whether the account region is aligned. Attach the exact error text, screenshots, and the logs requested by Riot. If a support article or patch note is dated, mention the date of the guidance you followed so the agent can distinguish an older workaround from a current procedure.

Will an Ethernet cable fix 2XKO connection problems?
