In How to Fish, buy the Standard Boss Lure from a shop on Desert Island (Island 3) for a guide-reported $280, equip it on your fishing rod, and cast to encounter the Blue Shark. Defeat the shark and return its body to the Grillmaster to open the grill and cooking activity. Check the item’s full name before buying: the ordinary Standard Lure is a different item.
Where to buy the Standard Boss Lure and what it costs
Travel to Desert Island, also called Island 3, and look for the shop. A guide written for How to Fish version 1.0.12 lists the Standard Boss Lure for $280 and reports it in shops on Islands 3–5. An earlier guide, checked against version 1.0.4, also reports the lure on Island 3 for $280. Because these are dated third-party guide listings rather than an official price notice, confirm the current shop listing before spending your in-game cash. Choose the boss lure, not the ordinary lure
The shop lists two similar names with different purposes. The Standard Boss Lure is associated with summoning the Blue Shark. The Standard Lure is for ordinary fish. Read the full item name in the shop before confirming the purchase; buying the ordinary lure will not accomplish the shark-quest step described here.
How to summon the Blue Shark and complete the hand-in
- Go to Desert Island (Island 3) and speak with the Grillmaster if the side-quest prompt is available.
- Buy the Standard Boss Lure from the island shop, checking that you have selected the boss version.
- Equip the lure on your fishing rod, then cast to trigger the Blue Shark encounter.
- Fight and defeat the shark. The quest guides describe taking the shark’s body back to the Grillmaster.
- Return the body to the Grillmaster to activate the grill and cooking activity.
The exact quest sequence comes from third-party and community guides, not official developer documentation. The Steam store page confirms that How to Fish is a Dazed Games title with fishing, gear purchases, quests, and boss progression, but it does not document this lure’s price or the Shark quest steps: How to Fish on Steam.

Health and gear advice
A shark guide updated August 28, 2026 reports the Blue Shark has 2,300 health and recommends a maxed Uzi. Treat both as dated guide advice, not an official weapon requirement or a guarantee that a particular loadout is necessary. The available account is at How-to-Fish-Game-Wiki’s Blue Shark page.
Whether the lure is consumed
Guides differ in how they describe whether a boss lure is lost or reused after an attempt. Do not count on keeping it: check your inventory afterward and allow for the possibility that you will need another one.

Is the Blue Shark quest required?
The cited guides describe the Blue Shark and Grillmaster branch as a side objective, not a required gate to the next island. Its practical payoff is access to the grill and cooking route. A Steam Community guide reports that cooking can raise an item’s value to 1.5× before burning reduces it, but that is community-reported mechanic advice, not an official statistic or a guaranteed result: Steam Community cooking guide.
