To start the Pufferfish fight in How to Fish, go to the tourist on Island 3 and complete the endangered-catch exchange to get Carrot bait. In the fight, dodge the boss’s rolling charge, attack during its recovery, and later steer clear of the purple poison trail. After winning, pick up the progression item and take it back to the tourist.

Think of each roll as a movement check followed by a brief attack opportunity. If you stay in the charge path or try to trade damage without creating space, you lose the opening the guides describe. This is guide-based advice; the available sources do not provide independently verified timing or damage windows.
How to survive phase two
Later in the fight, the guides describe a purple poison trail. It adds a ground hazard to the rolling attack: moving out of the boss’s path is not enough if your escape route takes you through the trail.

Keep a route around the hazard so you can continue dodging the roll without getting funneled into the poison.
The guides do not establish an official numeric trigger for this phase. Treat the poison as a later-fight change, not as a mechanic that is confirmed to begin at a specific health percentage.

Defeating the boss does not finish this progression step. Pick up the boss’s progression drop, then return to the Island 3 tourist and hand it in. Guides use varying names for the item, so check the label shown in your current game rather than relying on a specific name from an older guide.

PC Gamer’s gameplay account was published August 25, 2026 (PC Gamer). These are the pages’ reported dates and patch contexts, not confirmation of the game’s live version today.
Because no official documentation is cited for exact boss statistics, phase thresholds, or accepted endangered catches, use the game’s active request and on-screen encounter cues as the authority for those details.
