In How to Fish, the Island 2 cash loop described by an unofficial guide is to catch a fish with the Beginner Lure, drop it into the shallow pond behind your fishing spot with R, shoot it with the Shotgun, sell it, and cast again. The pond is meant to slow the fish long enough to aim; the guide does not establish a reliable cash-per-minute rate or guarantee every catch can be shot.

How the Island 2 shotgun money farm works

This is a repeatable catch, pond-drop, shoot, and sell loop reported by Nerd’s Chalk in a guide updated August 26, 2026. It is an unofficial strategy, not a developer-confirmed method. The guide says the shallow pond makes fish less likely to escape than dropping them on grass, though active creatures such as piranhas may still thrash.

Set up the fishing spot and equipment

  1. Buy the Shotgun at the weapon stand. Nerd’s Chalk reports a price of $150 and advises raising its bullet damage to the Island 2 maximum.
  2. Equip the Beginner Lure. The guide reports that it attracts better-value catches than fishing without a lure; it lists the lure at $3.
  3. Go to the grassy inlet where the shallow inland pond is behind you, then cast into the ocean.

Catch, drop, and shoot

  1. Reel in a fish and turn toward the pond.
  2. Press R to drop the fish into the shallow water, switch to the Shotgun, and fire before it escapes.
  3. Sell the fish carcass to the vendor, then cast again.

The guide says the Shotgun’s close-range spread suits this setup, but it does not provide controlled test results proving the method is the fastest farm. Catch rates and the chance to land a shot vary, so do not treat a lucky sequence as a normal return.

Reported costs and fish sale examples

The figures below are in-game amounts reported by Nerd’s Chalk in its 2026 guide, not guaranteed current prices or standard earnings. Game values may change with updates.

#1 Best Overall
Logitech G F310 Wired Gamepad Controller Console - Blue/Black
  • With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
  • Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
  • A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
  • The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
  • The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.
Item or catch Reported amount How to interpret it
Shotgun $150 Guide-reported purchase price; AllThingsHow also lists $150.
Beginner Lure $3 Guide-reported purchase price.
Dynamite About $25 per stick Approximate guide-reported price.
Goby sale About $13 Example sale value, not a guaranteed payout.
Sunfish sale About $63 Example value before bonuses.
Sunfish with Killscore modifiers Can exceed $100 A reported possible result, not a typical or assured sale.

Nerd’s Chalk describes Killscore bonuses for trick shots, no-scopes, point-blank shots, airborne hits, and last-bullet finishes. It does not provide stable multipliers or a typical return calculation, so these are potential bonuses rather than a dependable way to forecast income.

What the cash is for: the Giant Piranha quest

The Island 2 progression goal described in the guides is the Giant Piranha encounter. Nerd’s Chalk and AllThingsHow report the core sequence below; the independent How to Fish Wiki also describes the progression chain.

  • Support PC and Android

  1. Collect three ground leeches.
  2. Give the leeches to the Lady by the Lake to receive a modified lure.
  3. Equip the modified lure and reel in to trigger the Giant Piranha fight.
  4. Defeat the boss and take its skeleton back to the lakeside NPC.
  5. Hand in the skeleton to receive the coordinates for Island 3.

Is Dynamite required?

No. AllThingsHow says Dynamite is optional for story progression. Nerd’s Chalk suggests saving roughly 500 currency for around 20 sticks as a personal preparation target, not a fixed boss requirement. If cash is tight, the quest guide advises prioritizing the Shotgun instead.

How certain are the method and prices?

The exact cash loop and its example prices come from unofficial guides, including Nerd’s Chalk and AllThingsHow, both updated August 26, 2026. The How to Fish Wiki, which describes itself as independent, was updated August 28, 2026. These sources corroborate parts of the route, but no developer confirmation for the specific farm, payouts, or Killscore values is established here. Treat the mechanics and amounts as guide-reported and potentially patch-sensitive.
