To make the boat fly in How to Fish, use one bundle of dynamite beneath the floating hull, move clear, then detonate it. This is the most directly supported method for unlocking the “I’m the bird now” achievement; the boat is reported to survive the blast.
What you need before launching the boat
You need to unlock and board the boat, then obtain a dynamite bundle. A NerdsChalk guide says dynamite is first available at the Island 2 shop for $25. An independent wiki identifies the location as the Forest shop and places the purchase after you obtain the boat through the Spider Crab hand-in. These are guide-reported progression details, not verified against an official in-game shop record.
How to make the boat fly with dynamite
- Unlock the boat and board it.
- Travel to Island 2, also identified as the Forest, and buy one dynamite bundle.
- Move the boat into open water and leave it floating. Do not beach it.
- Place the dynamite directly beneath the hull. A charge merely beside the boat may push it sideways instead of lifting it.
- Move well away from the charge before detonating it. Both guides warn that close-range dynamite can kill the player; neither gives a precise safe distance.
- Detonate the charge and watch for the boat to launch and the achievement notification to appear.
The achievement is called “I’m the bird now.” NerdsChalk describes its requirement as “Make your boat fly.”

Will the explosion destroy the boat?
NerdsChalk reports that the boat survives the blast. The dynamite method is also described by the independent wiki, though neither source is an official developer or Steam achievement record.

Why the launch may not work
- The charge is beside the boat: reposition it directly under the hull; placement is central to producing an upward launch.
- The boat is beached: float it in open water before placing the charge.
- You are too close: move well clear before detonation to avoid being killed.
The guides do not establish an exact blast radius or a guaranteed airborne threshold, so avoid relying on a specific distance or timing.
Can you launch the boat without dynamite?
The wiki mentions a second community method: use the fastest engine and hit a wave, slope, or shoreline ramp to send the boat airborne. It provides no official threshold or guarantee that this will trigger the achievement, so treat it as a less-certain alternative rather than a required upgrade.
