The Warble of a Smitten Knight is an optional secondary quest in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Blood and Wine. It combines a Toussaint tournament with a private choice: tell Guillaume that Vivienne is cursed and involve him in the attempt to lift it, or keep her confidence and let her pursue her own method. Finish the tournament events before leaving if you want to preserve their reward and completion opportunities.
What the quest involves
Guillaume, a knight taken with Lady Vivienne, asks for Geralt’s help. The quest moves between tournament events and the question of how to handle Vivienne’s curse. It is a secondary quest, not part of the main story, but its tournament and character decisions make it worth completing deliberately.

How to handle the tournament
The tournament is a series of activities rather than one test. Its events include archery, a horse race, and a grand melee. A Gwent match can also affect the archery setup: after playing, Palmerin offers Geralt a chance to trade places in the shooting queue.

Complete the events before leaving
Staying in the tournament gives you the opportunity to pursue its rewards and achievement or virtue progress. Leaving early can forfeit those opportunities. The horse race and mounted duel may also matter if you are aiming for thorough quest completion. The exact reward names and all conditions are not established here, so check your in-game objectives and results rather than assuming a particular prize or achievement is guaranteed.
#1 Best Overall
- Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth and complexity
Optional activities and completion goals
The Gwent match and the tournament events are distinct parts of the experience; do not treat the quest as complete just because you have reached the conversation about Vivienne. If you care about tournament outcomes, finish the available activities before choosing to leave the grounds.
Choose whether Guillaume learns about the curse
When Geralt speaks with Guillaume about Vivienne, the central choice is whether to disclose the curse or keep it private. The decision changes who participates in trying to resolve it and which method the story follows.

| Choice | Immediate consequence | What it prioritizes |
|---|---|---|
| Tell Guillaume | Guillaume becomes involved, and the resolution takes a transfer or reflection approach involving him. | Including Guillaume in the attempt, with consequences for both characters. |
| Keep Vivienne’s secret | Vivienne proceeds with the egg method without Guillaume being brought into the matter. | Respecting Vivienne’s stated privacy and leaving the decision with her. |
Which choice should you make?
There is no single objectively best route. Telling Guillaume gives him a role in the attempt to lift the curse, while keeping quiet honors Vivienne’s confidence and lets her proceed with her chosen method. The selected approach affects the characters’ subsequent circumstances, so choose according to whether you value Guillaume’s involvement or Vivienne’s privacy more. The available outcome details do not establish every later consequence precisely enough to promise a specific fate for either character.
