A failed extraction does not automatically erase every ARC Raiders quest objective. It can put specific progress at risk, however. Embark’s Patch Notes 1.22.0 say that quest progress bars show “what progress may be lost if you fail to extract.” After a failed run, inspect the tracker, repeat only objectives that are missing or incomplete, and successfully extract whenever the wording requires you to bring an item out of the raid.
What a failed extraction actually changes
The safest rule is to treat a failed extraction as a selective progress risk, not a universal quest reset. Embark has not stated that every objective disappears whenever a player dies, disconnects, or otherwise fails to leave the map. Its wording is deliberately narrower: progress bars indicate what may be lost.
That distinction matters because quests can combine several kinds of work. One objective may count an interaction performed in the raid, another may require collecting an item, and a third may require that item to be extracted. The game can therefore show different outcomes for different parts of the same quest after one failed run.

- Progress that remains: An objective or counter still shown as complete does not need to be repeated merely because the run ended badly.
- Progress at risk: A bar or counter that the tracker marks as lost, reduced, or incomplete must be performed again.
- Extraction-dependent work: If the objective says to bring, deliver, recover, or extract an item, finding it is not enough; plan to leave the raid with it.
- Unclear behavior: The published notes do not define a persistence rule for every individual quest, so the current in-game wording takes priority over assumptions based on another quest.
Read the quest before risking another run
Before launching back into the same area, open the quest details and identify exactly what the game is tracking. This takes less time than replaying an entire chain unnecessarily and gives you a target for the next extraction.
Check every progress bar
Look for counters, segmented bars, check marks, and any warning that a portion of progress can be lost on a failed extraction. Record the current state mentally or with a screenshot if the quest has several numbers. A bar that remains full is evidence that the corresponding work is still registered; a bar that has emptied or fallen is the part to repeat.
Read the verb in the objective
Quest verbs describe the point at which the game is likely to award credit. “Find” or “inspect” may be satisfied by an interaction in the raid, while “extract,” “bring,” or “deliver” implies a successful exit with the required item. This is a practical reading of the objective language, not a guarantee that every quest uses identical logic. Always follow the wording displayed for your quest.
Separate objectives completed in the raid from items that must leave it
Make two short lists before the next deployment:
- Raid actions: Locations visited, objects searched, terminals used, enemies defeated, or other interactions that the tracker already marks complete.
- Extraction requirements: Items currently missing, quantities not yet credited, or objectives that explicitly require a successful extraction.
This separation prevents a common mistake: repeating a completed interaction while forgetting that the item obtained from it still has to be carried to an extraction point.
What to do immediately after extraction fails
- Return to the quest tracker. Do not queue another raid on autopilot. Open the affected quest and wait for all counters and bars to update.
- Compare the new state with the pre-run state. Identify which objective changed, which remained complete, and which was never credited.
- Mark only the lost work for replay. If one of four objectives is now incomplete, plan around that one instead of restarting the entire quest chain.
- Check your inventory and quest-item status. A collected item may be gone after the failed run, or it may still be present but not yet accepted because extraction was required. The tracker and item description are more reliable than memory.
- Re-read the success condition. Confirm whether the next attempt requires one interaction, several interactions in a single round, a quantity of items, or a successful extraction.
- Choose a lower-risk route. Once the lost step is known, avoid optional fights and detours that do not advance it. The goal is to complete the required action and leave safely.
- Extract successfully and verify the result. After returning to the lobby, open the tracker again. Confirm that the counter advanced before assuming the quest is finished.
There is no official, universal restoration command that returns all progress lost in a failed extraction. If the tracker shows an objective as incomplete, replaying that objective is the supported practical response unless a later update or support instruction says otherwise.

Objective types and the right recovery plan

How to finish an extraction-dependent quest on the next attempt
1. Prepare around the required item
Identify the exact item name, quantity, and location shown by the quest. Do not substitute a similar-looking object unless the tracker accepts it. If the item occupies inventory space, leave room for it and avoid picking up optional loot that could force a choice later.
2. Complete the objective before taking unnecessary risks
Once the required interaction or pickup is complete, treat the rest of the raid as an extraction run. Additional combat, exploration, or loot can create more opportunities to lose the progress you just earned without improving the quest counter.

If the interface allows you to view quest progress during a run, check it after the interaction. A counter that did not move is an early warning that the wrong object was used, the required quantity was not reached, or the objective expects a different sequence.
4. Leave with the item when the wording demands it
Finding an item and carrying it through the map are separate risks. An extraction-dependent objective should be considered unfinished until the post-raid tracker confirms the credit. If you fail to extract, assume the item may need to be collected again unless the tracker shows otherwise.
5. Verify completion in the lobby
Quest completion is not confirmed by seeing the item once. Open the quest after the raid and look for the completed marker, the increased count, or the next unlocked step. If the tracker has not changed, do not repeatedly perform the same action without first checking whether the objective has a different requirement.

When several objectives must be done in one round
Embark’s November Update 1.2.0, last updated November 13, 2025, documented a fix for an issue that prevented completion of quests involving multiple objectives or item collections within a single round. That history is important when an action appears to have worked but the quest remains incomplete.

For a quest that asks for several actions in one round, use a deliberate sequence:
- Read all required objectives before deploying.
- Write down the order and the required quantities.
- Perform each interaction completely rather than leaving midway through an animation or prompt.
- Check the tracker after each objective if the interface permits it.
- Finish the full set before extracting, then verify the result in the lobby.
The earlier fix does not prove that every current tracking problem has the same cause, and it does not establish that a failed extraction preserves every multi-objective step. It does show that a quest can fail to register correctly even when the player believes the actions were completed, so the tracker should be treated as the final authority.
How to tell a lost objective from a tracking problem
Signs that progress was legitimately lost
- The progress bar is lower than it was before the raid.
- The objective is explicitly marked incomplete after the failed extraction.
- An extraction-required item is no longer credited.
- Repeating the stated requirement and extracting successfully advances the counter.
Signs that the tracker may be stuck
- The objective remains incomplete after the exact requirement was performed and the required item was successfully extracted.
- A multi-part objective shows one action missing even though every listed action was completed in the same round.
- The counter does not change after returning to the lobby, restarting the game, and checking the quest again.
- The quest description and the progress display appear to disagree about what is required.
Do not infer a universal bug from one failed attempt. First verify the item name, quantity, interaction prompt, and extraction requirement. If the same objective still fails under the stated conditions, preserve the details for a support report.
What to include in a support report
When the tracker appears stuck, document the event instead of repeatedly risking the quest with no new information. Include:

- The exact quest name and objective text.
- Your platform: Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or GeForce NOW.
- The map or activity in which the objective was attempted.
- Whether the run ended in a successful extraction, a failed extraction, a disconnect, or another outcome.
- The item name and quantity involved.
- Which progress bars changed and which remained unchanged.
- Whether multiple objectives or item collections were completed in one round.
- The game version or update currently installed, if displayed.
- A screenshot or video showing the objective before and after the run, with personal information removed where appropriate.
This information distinguishes ordinary lost progress from a registration error and gives support enough context to investigate a particular quest rather than a general complaint that “the quest reset.”
Expedition resets are a separate issue
A failed extraction during an ordinary raid should not be confused with an Expedition progression reset. Embark’s announcement for the fifth Expedition, dated August 21, 2026, offered an option to opt out of resetting quest progress for that cycle and said larger Expedition changes were planned. Those details applied to that Expedition cycle and may be superseded by later updates.
If your quest appears to have reset outside the immediate aftermath of a failed extraction, check whether an Expedition transition occurred. Compare the timing of the change with the Expedition rules shown in the current game. A cycle-wide reset is a progression policy; it is not evidence that every failed extraction always wipes every objective.

- Is the affected item or counter explicitly extraction-dependent? If yes, repeat the pickup or action and complete a successful extraction. If no, continue.
- Does the tracker show some objectives still complete? If yes, leave those steps alone and replay only the missing ones.
- Does the quest require several actions in one round? If yes, perform the complete set in one attempt and verify each step before extracting.
- Did the exact requirement succeed but the tracker remain unchanged? Record the details and consult current official support or update notes rather than assuming the entire quest must be restarted.
Common mistakes that waste a run
Restarting every step automatically
A failed extraction can make players repeat locations and interactions that the tracker still credits. Check each bar first. Replaying completed work adds risk without proven benefit.

Leaving immediately after finding the item
Quest wording that requires bringing or extracting an item calls for a successful exit. Finding the object is only the acquisition part of that task.
Trusting memory instead of the current tracker
Different quests can use different conditions. A rule that worked for one item or objective should not be generalized to another without checking its text.
Assuming every non-registration is an extraction reset
Multi-objective tracking issues have occurred before. If the exact sequence was completed but the counter did not move, investigate the possibility of a tracking problem.

Ignoring Expedition timing
A progression reset associated with an Expedition cycle has a different cause and remedy from progress lost in one failed raid. Check the current cycle rules before replaying a long quest chain.
Platform and update considerations
ARC Raiders is listed for Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and GeForce NOW. Quest behavior should be checked against the version running on your platform, because later patches can change tracking, progress indicators, or Expedition handling.
Patch Notes 1.22.0 establish the intended role of progress bars: they warn which progress may be lost on a failed extraction. The November 2025 update records a prior fix for multi-objective and item-collection tracking. The fifth Expedition announcement records a cycle-specific opt-out from a quest reset. None of those notes supplies a universal rule for every quest or a guaranteed method to restore progress without replaying an objective.
