The quickest way to find a Samsung Galaxy phone’s model and serial number is Settings → About phone. On a Galaxy tablet, use Settings → About tablet. If your device uses older software, open Status from that screen. Samsung notes that labels can differ by model, carrier and software version, so choose the equivalent About device or Status entry when the wording is not identical.
Samsung’s official instructions explain that the numbers can be viewed directly on the device: “You can easily view these numbers directly on the phone or tablet by navigating to Settings, and then tapping About phone or About tablet.”
Find the numbers in Settings
On a Samsung Galaxy phone
- Unlock the phone and open Settings. You can open Settings from the app list or by tapping the gear icon in Quick settings.
- Scroll to the bottom of the main Settings list and tap About phone.
- Read the Model name, Model number and Serial number fields. Depending on the model, you may need to scroll within the About phone page.
- If the page does not show the identifiers directly, tap Status, Status information or a similarly named entry. Older Galaxy software commonly places the serial number and related identifiers under Status.

On a Samsung Galaxy tablet
- Open Settings.
- Tap About tablet. Some versions call this About device.
- Record the Model number and Serial number. If they are not visible, open Status or Status information.
The phone and tablet paths are almost identical, but the top-level menu name is different. Use About tablet on a tablet rather than searching for About phone.

Understand which number you need
Galaxy devices display several identifiers. They are not interchangeable, and entering the wrong one can delay a warranty, trade-in, repair or theft report.

Samsung says the IMEI or MEID and serial number are unique to the individual phone or tablet, while the model number describes the device variant. When a form asks for “the model,” check whether it wants the model name or the longer model number. When it asks for a serial number, do not substitute an IMEI.
What to do when Settings is unavailable
If the Galaxy will not start, the screen cannot be used, or the About page is missing, Samsung lists several other places to check. Use the source that is available and compare the result with another record when accuracy matters.

Small print on the back of some Galaxy phones and tablets includes the model or serial information. It may be difficult to read because of the type size, a protective case or wear. Remove a case carefully and use bright, indirect light; do not scrape the label or use solvents.
Check the original box
The product label on the retail box generally lists the model number and serial number, and often an IMEI. If you still have the box, match its serial number to the device or purchase record before giving it to a repair center. A box from a replacement or exchanged device may not match the unit now in your possession.

Review your carrier account
A carrier’s website or account app may list the phone attached to a line, including its model and IMEI. This is useful when the display is unusable, but an account can show the device most recently activated on the line rather than every device you have owned. Treat the carrier record as a cross-check if the phone has been replaced.
Look at the receipt, contract or order record
Sales receipts, financing contracts and online order histories can contain the model number or an IMEI. They may omit the serial number, especially for purchases made through a carrier or retailer. Search the document for labels such as “S/N,” “serial,” “IMEI,” “MEID,” “SKU” and “model.”
Use Samsung Members
- Open the Samsung Members app on the Galaxy.
- Choose the Support tab.
- Tap the displayed device name. The app can show identifying details associated with that device.
If Samsung Members is not installed, cannot open or is signed into a different Samsung account, use Settings, the box or your purchase record instead.
Try the dialer code, when supported
On a phone that can open the dialer, enter *#06#. Samsung says this code may display IMEI and serial details, but it works only when supported by the carrier. It is not a guaranteed replacement for the About phone page, and it is generally unavailable on Wi-Fi-only tablets without a cellular dialer.
Check under a removable battery only on eligible models
Some older Galaxy devices with user-removable batteries place identifying information under or below the battery. Power the device off, remove the battery only if the design explicitly allows it, and read the label inside. Most newer Galaxy devices have non-removable batteries. Do not pry open a sealed device or attempt to remove a battery that is not designed to come out.

If the touchscreen is broken or unusable
A cracked display does not always prevent you from retrieving the numbers. Samsung UK says that, depending on the failure and device compatibility, you may be able to connect a USB mouse or display the phone on a television and then reach Settings.

Try a USB mouse
- Obtain a compatible USB-OTG adapter for the Galaxy’s charging-port connector and a standard USB mouse.
- Connect the adapter to the phone, then plug in the mouse.
- Look for a pointer on the display. If it appears, use the mouse to open Settings → About phone and read the identifiers.
- If the phone asks you to unlock it, enter the passcode with the on-screen keyboard or a compatible physical keyboard.
Not every Galaxy model supports the same USB accessories, and a display that is completely dead may still prevent this method from working.
Use a television or external display when supported
Some Galaxy phones can output their screen to a TV or monitor through a compatible wired adapter or supported wireless feature. Connect the display using equipment that matches your model, then use a mouse or the phone’s controls to open Settings. Display-output support varies by model, software and adapter, so this is a troubleshooting option rather than a universal fix.
Do not remove a sealed battery
Samsung warns that most newer devices do not have removable batteries. Attempting to remove one can damage the device and may void its warranty. If the phone is swollen, hot, bent or physically damaged, stop handling it and arrange professional service instead of connecting accessories or opening the enclosure.
Why the menu may look different
Samsung’s menu labels and placement change across Galaxy generations, One UI versions, carrier firmware and device categories. You may see About device instead of About phone, or Status information instead of Status. A tablet may retain About tablet even when a phone on the same software release uses a different label.

Use Settings search if you cannot locate the entry:
- Open Settings.
- Tap the search icon or search field.
- Search for
serial,model number,IMEIorAbout. - Open the matching result and read the field from the resulting page.
Search results can lead directly to a field or to the About page. If a search returns nothing, try Status or About device manually. Record the information accurately
Identifiers are easy to mistype because model numbers and serial numbers mix letters and digits. Use these checks before submitting one to support, a carrier or an insurer:
- Copy the value exactly, including hyphens, slashes or other punctuation shown on screen.
- Distinguish similar characters such as zero and the letter O, one and the letter I, or five and the letter S. If the font is unclear, compare the value with the box or Samsung Members.
- Record the label as well as the value: “Model number,” “Serial number,” “IMEI 1” or “IMEI 2.”
- For a dual-SIM phone, note which IMEI belongs to which SIM slot if the request specifies one.
- Do not publish a serial number or IMEI in a public post. Treat them as device-specific information and share them only with a trusted carrier, manufacturer, repair provider, insurer or authority that needs them.
Choosing the right identifier for a common task

Samsung notes that these identifiers can be requested for promotions or for help with a lost or stolen device. Follow the exact field name in the form rather than assuming that any long number is acceptable.
Troubleshooting when a number is missing
The serial-number field is blank
Restart the device and check About phone or About tablet again. Then try Status, Samsung Members and the original box. A blank field can result from a software display problem, a repaired or replaced mainboard, or a record that was not preserved correctly. Do not invent a value; tell the support representative which sources you checked.

The model number on the box differs from Settings
Stop before submitting the information. Confirm that the box belongs to the same unit, then compare the serial number on the box with the device record. A mismatch can mean that packaging was mixed during a return or exchange, or that the device has been serviced. Ask Samsung or the seller to reconcile the records.
The dialer code does nothing
The *#06# shortcut depends on carrier support and a working dialer. Use About phone, Samsung Members, the carrier account or the product label instead. Do not repeatedly enter unrelated service codes from unverified websites.
The phone cannot be unlocked
Settings generally requires the device to be unlocked. If you know the passcode, use a compatible USB mouse or keyboard when touch input fails. If you do not know the passcode, a repair center or Samsung support may be able to verify ownership and provide next steps, but they should not bypass security without authorization.
The device is lost or stolen
Use your saved records, carrier account, purchase documents or Samsung account information rather than trying to access the handset. Contact the carrier and appropriate authorities promptly, and provide the IMEI or MEID they request. Avoid posting the identifier publicly.
