WoW: Forever PvP starts with a ruleset choice, not a traditional realm choice. Normal, PvP, and Roleplaying characters can queue for battlegrounds together, while Hardcore remains separate. The new Darkspear Islands battleground is a 15-versus-15 objective match for levels 30–60. To progress, keep two systems straight: Honor buys PvP gear, while weekly-capped Rank Points advance your rank toward rank 14.
These rules and reward details reflect announcements and guides available through October 13, 2026. Forever is in beta, so confirm queue availability, costs, and current rules in-game or in the latest Blizzard announcement.
Choose a ruleset before planning your PvP
Forever organizes characters by ruleset rather than the traditional realm model. Ruleset choice affects the kind of open-world PvP you encounter and who you can group with for ordinary activities. It does not keep every battleground limited to players from your ruleset.

Blizzard also says it may temporarily restrict creation of new characters for a faction if needed to manage faction balance. The ruleset descriptions and grouping limits are in Blizzard’s ruleset announcement.

Can a Normal character do PvP?
Yes. Normal is not a PvP-free mode: players can choose to enable PvP. The practical distinction is that the PvP ruleset makes contested territory more dangerous, whereas Normal leaves the choice with the player. The available announcement does not spell out every toggle, zone, or combat interaction, so use the current client for the precise setting and its effect.
Can friends on different rulesets group?
Not for ordinary activities such as dungeons and raids: those groups must be on the same ruleset. Battlegrounds are the exception for non-Hardcore rulesets, which can be matched together. Horde and Alliance cannot group together. If you are making characters with friends, agree on both faction and ruleset before leveling.

How to queue for Darkspear Islands
Darkspear Islands is a battleground, not an arena. Blizzard describes it as a 15v15 match for level 30–60 characters, located off Dustwallow Marsh in Kalimdor. The two teams are the Horde Darkspear Raiders and the Alliance Theramore Expeditionary Force. The match is built around controlling objectives and accumulating points rather than simply eliminating the opposing team.

- Reach level 30. The announced eligible range is levels 30–60.
- Find a Battlemaster. Independent guides report that a Battlemaster in a major capital or the Barrens starts the queue. Wowhead also describes queues through Battlemaster NPCs in major cities or at a battleground portal in the world. The complete location list for the current beta build is not established, so check available NPCs or portals in-game.
- Select Darkspear Islands in the queue interface. Queue availability depends on the battleground being open in the current build; no reliable opening date is established in the sources cited here.
- Join your team’s match and play the objectives. The queue places Horde characters with the Darkspear Raiders and Alliance characters with the Theramore Expeditionary Force.

How Darkspear Islands scoring works
- Capture four points. Controlled points generate score over time; holding more points increases the rate.
- Use the central flag. Carry it to a capture point your team controls to earn bonus score.
- Reach 2,000 points first. The first team to the announced 2,000-point threshold wins.
This objective format gives teams a reason to split attention between holding territory and contesting the central flag. Do not treat the flag as a standalone capture-and-return win condition: its described role is to add score when delivered to a controlled point.
Reputation rewards are separate from rank rewards
Matches build separate reputations for the Darkspear Raiders and Theramore Expeditionary Force. Independent item guides describe faction vendors with gear and consumables at reputation thresholds; reported item categories include trinkets, cloaks, rings, necklaces, off-hands, and weapons. Exact item names and availability should be checked against the current game client because guide-level listings may not match a later beta build.

Understand Honor, Rank Points, and rank rewards
Forever’s PvP progression has two tracks with different purposes. Honor is a spendable currency for PvP gear. Rank Points advance your standing through ranks 1–14, toward Grand Marshal for Alliance or High Warlord for Horde, and are subject to a weekly cap. PvP activity and relevant quests can contribute to both systems; battlegrounds and highlighted battleground holiday weeks are also described as Honor and Rank Point sources.

Blizzard’s stated design goal is to make Honor gains more consistent across battlegrounds. The team wrote, “We want players to enjoy the full range of battleground maps without feeling compelled to choose Alterac Valley solely for Honor efficiency.” That explains the intent; it is not a promise that every battleground pays exactly the same amount. The ladder describes rank-gated rewards, not a complete price list or a guarantee that every item is immediately purchasable. To obtain epic-quality gear, the published path requires the corresponding blue-quality item plus an Emboldened Seal, and the seals themselves have rank requirements. The independent Wowhead item overview lists faction-specific item names; verify the relevant vendor and requirements in-game.
Weekly season tasks and Legacy Points
Season journeys include weekly tasks that grant Honor and Rank Points. Completing three tasks in a season also grants a Legacy Point. An independent guide totals PvP at 12 Legacy Points by combining rank progress, reputations, and weekly tasks; that total is a guide’s synthesis of several systems rather than a single reward stated in the official progression announcement. Season length and rank resets are not established in the cited materials.
Beta figures and details to verify
Beta costs and limits can change, so treat the following as dated values rather than launch guarantees. A guide reporting the October 1, 2026 beta notes says the Honor cap rose from 15,000 to 25,000, and that most PvP gear and upgrade-token Honor costs increased by about 50%. These are not universal prices: the report does not provide a complete item-by-item price list. See the dated WoW Forever Outpost guide.
The reviewed announcements and guides do not establish the exact Rank Points required for every rank, how the weekly Rank Points cap grows, the battleground’s opening date, season length, or whether ranks reset between seasons. The Outpost guide reported no announced Darkspear Islands opening date as of October 8, 2026; later confirmation is not established by the sources linked here. Do not infer these details from another WoW version.
