The most reliable way to find upcoming indie games on Xbox is to combine four official surfaces: the weekly Indie Selects collection for curated recommendations, ID@Xbox Demo Fest for playable previews, ID@Xbox showcases for announcements, and Xbox’s weekly “Next Week on Xbox” release calendar for near-term dates. Open each game’s current Store listing while signed in to add it to your wishlist or use the available follow control; treat the live listing as the final authority because dates, platforms, and country availability can change.
This workflow works across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Xbox on PC. It also separates games you can try now from games that have only been announced, so your watchlist does not become a list of misleading or obsolete release dates.

The quickest way to track Xbox indie games
- Start with Indie Selects. Open the Indie Selects Hub in the Xbox Store or at Xbox.com/IndieSelects. Its collection is curated rather than an unfiltered search result, and four themed spotlights rotate every week.
- Look for a current demo. During an ID@Xbox Demo Fest, open the dedicated Xbox Store collection and install demos for games that interest you. The June 2026 event offered more than 30 demos across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Xbox on PC.
- Watch ID@Xbox showcases. Showcases are the best place to catch world premieres, release-window announcements, and news about upcoming Game Pass titles. The April 2026 ID@Xbox Spring Showcase announced 17 games coming to Xbox.
- Check the weekly calendar near launch. The “Next Week on Xbox” series aggregates games arriving on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox on PC, and Game Pass. Use the linked Store page as your final date check; Xbox explicitly says release dates are subject to change.
- Save the game from its live Store page. While signed in, look for the current wishlist or follow control on the title’s listing. The exact label and notification behavior can vary by Xbox interface, so do not assume that following always means a particular type of alert.
Use the first three steps for discovery and the last two for scheduling. That distinction prevents a showcase announcement or a demo from being mistaken for a confirmed launch.
Where to discover upcoming indie games
Indie Selects: the curated starting point
Indie Selects is Xbox’s recurring editorial collection for independent games. Rather than asking you to sort through every Store result, it presents a handpicked group and four themed spotlights. ID@Xbox describes the spotlights as rotating weekly; an August 2026 update invited players to “Every Wednesday, dive into the Indie Select Hub” for a fresh collection.

Open the hub from the Xbox Store on console or visit Xbox.com/IndieSelects in a browser. Select a game to reach its individual Store listing, where you can read the description, check supported platforms, inspect the planned date if one is shown, and use the account action available on that page.
- Best for: reducing discovery to a manageable, editorially selected list.
- What it does not guarantee: a release date, a demo, or availability in every country.
- How often to revisit: weekly, especially around the Wednesday rotation mentioned by ID@Xbox.
ID@Xbox Demo Fest: try games before launch
Demo Fest is the most efficient route when you want hands-on evidence instead of a trailer. The June 2026 ID@Xbox Indie Selects Demo Fest placed more than 30 demos in a dedicated Xbox Store collection for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Xbox on PC. The event announcement also discussed 17 newly announced games coming to Xbox, so the collection combined playable previews with new discoveries.
Install a demo from its Store page, play it as you would any other Xbox title, and then return to the game’s full listing to check its current status. A demo can remain available after an event, disappear when the event ends, or be offered only in selected storefronts.

The final release may differ, and availability can differ by country while developers continue polishing the game. Treat a demo as evidence of the current build, not a promise about final content, performance, rating, or release timing.
ID@Xbox showcases: announcements and release windows
Showcases are useful when you want breadth. The April 2026 ID@Xbox Spring Showcase included indie world premieres, release-date announcements, and upcoming Game Pass titles. A showcase can reveal a game before it has a Store page, or it can announce a window such as a month or season rather than a day.

One practical detail from that presentation was launch support for Xbox Play Anywhere on Deep Dish Dungeon, Echo Generation 2, and Screenbound. When a game advertises Play Anywhere, check the current listing to confirm which Xbox console and Xbox-on-PC entitlements apply in your region; the program is a platform benefit, not proof that every version releases simultaneously.
“Next Week on Xbox”: the near-term release calendar
Use the weekly “Next Week on Xbox” articles when a launch is close enough to plan downloads, Game Pass play time, or a purchase. The series covers Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox on PC, and Game Pass in one place. Its editor, Will Fulton, states that “release dates [are] subject to change.”
Read the calendar for discovery, then select the game profile or Store link attached to the entry. Compare the date, platform badges, edition name, and regional price on that live listing. If the article and Store disagree, rely on the current Store page and recheck later rather than treating the calendar as a permanent schedule.
How to wishlist or follow an upcoming game
Xbox’s interfaces change, and the available account action is not described consistently across every device. The safest method is therefore page-based: open the current Store listing, sign in to the Microsoft account you use for Xbox, and use the wishlist or follow control that the listing presents.
On an Xbox console
- Open the Microsoft Store from the Xbox dashboard.
- Use Search to enter the game’s exact title. If you found it through Indie Selects, Demo Fest, a showcase, or “Next Week on Xbox,” open that game’s linked listing instead of relying on a similarly named result.
- Review the listing for the correct edition and platform. A game may have separate Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, demo, or bundle entries.
- While signed in, locate the current wishlist or follow action and select it. The label can differ by interface version.
- Return to your account’s saved or wishlist area to confirm that the title was added. If it is missing, reopen the listing and repeat the action while checking that the console is online and using the intended account.
In a web browser
- Open the game’s Store page from the official Xbox or Microsoft Store route used by the discovery article.
- Sign in before selecting any save, wishlist, or follow control. A signed-out browser may show the listing but cannot reliably attach the action to your account.
- Check the product name, publisher, platform badges, and region before saving it.
- Select the wishlist or follow control currently shown on the page, then verify the title in your account’s saved list.
In the Xbox app on PC
- Launch the Xbox app and confirm that the account shown in the profile menu is the one you use for your console library.
- Search for the title and open the full Store or game detail page, not only a promotional tile.
- Check whether the listing is for Xbox on PC, console, or both, then use the available wishlist or follow action.
- Open your saved or wishlist view to confirm the entry. A console-only listing may be visible but not installable on PC.
What following does—and does not—promise
Official documentation does not provide one stable, cross-platform description of the exact control label or notification behavior. Following a game may save it for easier access, but you should not promise yourself a particular push notification, email, dashboard tile, or release-day reminder unless the live interface explicitly offers that option. For important launches, keep a separate calendar reminder and recheck the Store page.

How to verify a release date before relying on it
Use a date-confidence ladder. The closer you are to launch, the more weight you should give the live listing over older announcements.
| Evidence | What it tells you | Confidence and action |
|---|---|---|
| Current Store listing with a day and date | The date currently attached to that edition and storefront | Highest available confidence; recheck if the purchase or install button is not yet active |
| “Next Week on Xbox” entry | A near-term launch planned for the covered week | Useful but explicitly subject to change; open the linked listing |
| ID@Xbox showcase announcement | A premiere, release window, or Game Pass plan | Announcement-level confidence; wait for a Store date |
| Indie Selects placement | Xbox editorial curation | Not a date guarantee; open the game page for timing |
| Demo Fest demo | A playable early build | Confirms a demo, not a final launch date or final feature set |
Record the date together with its scope. “Coming to Xbox” might mean Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox on PC, or a combination. A title can launch on one platform first and appear on another later. The Store’s platform badges and edition name are more precise than a headline.
Choosing the right discovery route
| Route | Curation | Timing | Platforms | Availability | Date confidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Indie Selects | Handpicked collection plus four weekly themed spotlights | Any stage, from newly highlighted to already available | Xbox Store listings; check each title for console or PC support | Storefront and country can affect what appears | Low to medium for timing; verify the listing |
| Demo Fest | Concentrated selection of playable previews | Before release or during development | June 2026 collection covered Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Xbox on PC | Demos can vary by country and may be removed | Low for final date; high only that a demo was offered |
| ID@Xbox showcase | Broad coverage, including premieres and announcements | Future-facing; may provide only a window | Announced platform support varies by game | Announcements do not ensure simultaneous regional release | Medium for the announcement, lower for the day |
| “Next Week on Xbox” | Broad near-term release roundup | Immediately upcoming week | Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox on PC, and Game Pass | Store region and edition determine availability | Medium; dates are subject to change |
| Live Store page | Title-specific information rather than editorial curation | Current status, preorder, demo, or release listing | Exact platform badges and editions are shown | Most precise for your signed-in region | Highest available; still recheck around launch |
A practical tracking system that stays current
Make one list with useful fields
For each game you save, record the title, Store URL or Store entry, platforms, announced date or window, date last checked, whether a demo exists, and where you discovered it. Add a short status such as demo available, date announced, preorder listed, or date not stated. This prevents a vague “upcoming” label from hiding what you actually know.
Use a simple review cadence
- Weekly: scan the Indie Selects rotation and “Next Week on Xbox.”
- During showcase periods: add newly announced games, but mark them as announcement-only until a Store listing appears.
- Before scheduling time or money: open the live listing and check the date, edition, price, platform, and region.
- After a delay: replace the old date in your notes rather than keeping both dates as if they were equally current.
Separate “try now” from “wait for launch”
Keep demo-capable games in one group and announcement-only games in another. A demo lets you judge controls, performance, accessibility options, and whether the premise suits you, but it can be an incomplete build. An announcement tells you what the developer and Xbox intend to ship, not what is playable today.

“Xbox” is not a single release target. A listing can support Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox on PC, or several of them. The June Demo Fest covered all three environments across its collection, while individual games may support fewer.
When you see Xbox Play Anywhere mentioned, inspect the current product page for the exact entitlement and supported devices. The April 2026 showcase highlighted Deep Dish Dungeon, Echo Generation 2, and Screenbound with Play Anywhere support at launch. That information helps someone who moves between console and PC, but it should still be checked against the edition you intend to buy.
Preorders, discounts, and price changes
A wishlist is useful even when you are not ready to preorder. Prices, editions, and incentives can change between announcement and launch. For example, a 2026 listing for Whisper of the House carried a 20% preorder discount cited by GD Studio and Xbox Wire. That was a specific offer tied to that listing and period, not a standard discount for indie games or a reason to preorder every title.

Before paying, verify the currency, region, edition contents, launch date, and refund terms shown in your Store. If a discount is important, capture the terms displayed at checkout and do not assume that a demo, preorder, or wishlist action locks the price.

Troubleshooting missing games, demos, or dates
The game appears in an article but not in your Store
Search the exact title, check that your Store region is correct, and look for a separate edition or platform listing. A country-specific release, a delisted demo, or a changed title can explain the mismatch. Do not substitute an unrelated result with a similar name.
The demo is unavailable
Demo Fest availability can vary by country, and event demos may be removed after the promotion. Check the game’s main listing for a current demo or a new trial. If none is shown, the absence does not prove that the full game was canceled.
The date changed or disappeared
Reopen the Store listing and compare it with the latest “Next Week on Xbox” entry or showcase announcement. Remove the old date from your personal tracker and record the new wording, such as “TBA,” a month, or a season, if that is what the listing now says.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe wishlist or follow action did not stick
Confirm that you are signed in to the intended Microsoft account, that the console or app is online, and that you selected the action on the full product page. Then check the account’s saved or wishlist view. If the control is absent, the listing may not support that action in your interface or region; use a personal calendar as a backup.
The game is listed for the wrong device
Read the platform badges before installing or purchasing. A console listing is not automatically an Xbox-on-PC license, and a PC listing is not automatically playable on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S. Play Anywhere support, when offered, should be stated on the current listing.
Bottom line: use curation to discover and the Store to confirm
Indie Selects is the best recurring starting point, Demo Fest is the fastest way to sample several unfinished projects, showcases reveal what is coming, and “Next Week on Xbox” narrows the schedule to launches that are close. Save each title from its current Store page, but treat dates and notifications as changeable until the listing confirms them. Rechecking the live page for platform, region, demo status, and date is the step that turns an interesting announcement into a dependable Xbox game plan.
