To find an iPhone case that fits, first identify your exact iPhone model, then choose a case listing that names that same model. If you want magnetic attachment to a charger, wallet, or mount, check separately that the specific case version is labeled MagSafe-compatible. A case can fit your phone without providing MagSafe alignment.
How do I know what iPhone case fits my phone?
- On your iPhone, open Settings > General > About and note the model name. If you need to confirm it, use Apple’s iPhone model identification guide to match the model number.
- Search for a case using the full model name, including the suffix: for example, Pro, Pro Max, Plus, mini, Air, or e where applicable.
- In the store’s compatibility selector, choose that exact model and read the product page’s compatibility text before buying. Apple’s US cases catalog, for example, separates cases by iPhone model.
Do not assume that a case for one model fits a similarly named one. An iPhone and its Pro or Pro Max variant can have different dimensions, camera openings, or button placement. Treat a case as compatible only when its maker lists your exact model.

How do I check if an iPhone case is MagSafe compatible?
MagSafe is a separate check from physical fit. If you want the case to align and attach magnetically to MagSafe accessories, look for explicit wording such as “with MagSafe” or “MagSafe-compatible” on the listing for the exact phone model and case version. Apple describes the magnetic alignment in its MagSafe charger and battery pack guide, and its US cases catalog includes products labeled “with MagSafe.”
- Only need a fitted protective case? Match the exact iPhone model; MagSafe labeling is not essential.
- Use a MagSafe charger, wallet, or mount? Confirm explicit MagSafe compatibility for the case itself as well as the phone.
If you already own the case, place the MagSafe charger against the installed case and check whether it attaches and aligns as expected. Charging by itself does not prove magnetic compatibility.

Will my MagSafe charger work through my case?
It may charge the phone, but charging and magnetic attachment are different outcomes. Apple says most iPhone models can charge with its MagSafe Charger, including some Qi-compatible iPhones that do not have the same MagSafe alignment or charging performance as supported MagSafe models. A phone charging on the puck is therefore not enough to establish that the case supports magnetic attachment.
Apple’s US support page says peak power can reach up to 25 W only with specifically named iPhone and adapter combinations. It also lists 20 W peak for iPhone Air and 22.5 W peak for iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro under the setups it describes. These are conditional maxima, not guaranteed speeds for every iPhone, adapter, or case. Check Apple’s current MagSafe Charger compatibility and charging guidance for your model and charger setup.

If charging seems slow or the phone warms up, check the iPhone model, MagSafe charger, and power adapter rating before assuming the case is the cause. Wireless charging can warm the phone; iOS may limit charging if the battery gets too warm.
Does my iPhone have MagSafe or just wireless charging?
Wireless charging does not necessarily mean the phone has MagSafe magnetic alignment. Apple’s support guidance distinguishes iPhones that support MagSafe from Qi-compatible iPhones that can charge on a MagSafe Charger with different power and charge times. Check Apple’s model-specific guidance rather than using the fact that a phone charges on a puck as proof that it has MagSafe.

How should I compare cases after checking compatibility?
Once the case listing passes both checks—exact model fit and, if needed, MagSafe compatibility—compare the features that affect daily use:
- Protection: Decide whether you want a slim everyday case or a more protective, rugged design. Treat drop-protection claims as specific to the maker and product; a claim is not a universal guarantee.
- Grip and material: Consider how the case feels in your hand and whether its finish suits your use.
- Bulk and weight: A thicker case may offer a different level of coverage but add size and weight.
- Camera and buttons: Check that the case protects the camera area without obstructing it and that buttons remain accessible.
- Extras: Decide whether you need a built-in wallet, stand, or strap, and whether those features work with your accessories.
What should I keep away from a MagSafe charger?
Apple warns against placing cards, security badges, passports, or key fobs between the iPhone and MagSafe Charger. The magnets may damage magnetic strips or RFID chips. Remove these items before charging.
