To start Lost Rites in Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, speak with Captain Brant at the Stardrop Inn and choose “About the uncovered ruins…” Then use the Proving Ground Compass from your inventory to mark the quest’s challenge locations on your map. If a Spellseal Door offers no usable item, progress the main story through A New Godsway to obtain the Empowered Godsbane Blade, then return to open it.
What Lost Rites is and what you need
Lost Rites is expansion content built around 12 dungeon challenges, according to the Capcom Town Store listing. The listing describes a Steam key and says Dragon’s Dogma 2 is required. It is a Japanese Capcom Town Store listing, so it should not be treated as evidence of pricing or availability in other regions or on other platforms.
There are two separate parts to reaching the Spellseal Doors: finding and tracking the quest’s challenge sites, and meeting the main-story requirement to open doors that block your path. The Proving Ground Compass handles the map-marking step; the Empowered Godsbane Blade is the item the walkthrough identifies as the means of opening the doors after the relevant story progress.

- Go to the Stardrop Inn and speak with Captain Brant.
- Select “About the uncovered ruins…” This dialogue option starts Lost Rites and gives you the Proving Ground Compass, according to the Video Games Chronicle walkthrough.
- Open your inventory and use the Proving Ground Compass. Using it marks the new challenge locations on your map. It is a navigation step, not the item used to open a Spellseal Door.
If the dialogue option is not apparent, make sure you are speaking to Captain Brant at the Stardrop Inn and check the available conversation choices. The cited walkthrough identifies that NPC, location, and exact option as the quest start; it does not provide a separate alternate starting method.

Follow the map markers to the challenge ruins
After using the compass, travel to the marked locations and explore the ruins. The quest comprises 12 dungeon challenges, but the available walkthrough does not provide a reliable door-by-door list of locations, enemies, or rewards. Use the compass markers for your route rather than relying on an assumed complete list of Spellseal Doors.
Some of the ruins contain optional Spellseal Doors, and the walkthrough notes that certain areas may require passing through one. That can make a door seem like an immediate local obstacle, but its solution may depend on your main-story progress rather than a key hidden nearby.

Why a Spellseal Door will not open
If the door interaction presents no usable item from your inventory, treat it as a story-progression gate. The walkthrough specifically advises against searching the nearby cave for a key in this situation: the door is gated by main-story progress. Finding more items in the immediate area will not substitute for the required story reward.

The progression route identified by the walkthrough is to continue the main story through Vermund and Battahl and complete A New Godsway. That quest rewards the Empowered Godsbane Blade. Return to the Spellseal Doors with the blade and use it to open them. These quest and door instructions come from the VGC walkthrough; Capcom’s cited materials confirm the expansion’s availability and challenge count, but do not serve as an official quest manual.

What the available route information does—and does not—establish
The published walkthrough supplies the quest-start dialogue, compass step, story prerequisite, and door-opening item. It does not enumerate every Spellseal Door’s exact location, reward, or enemy, so a full door-by-door route or reward chart cannot be stated reliably from these sources. The Capcom Town Store announcement says the expansion became available on October 9, 2026; the walkthrough was published October 8, 2026.
